What better way to celebrate a 50th birthday than to visit Hawaii (for a 5th time) and visit some relatives and do some sailing and windsurfing. Hawaii became a State on August 21, 1959. Of course I was born August 30th so nice treat USA.

For the last several years or so a Eastern State Penitentiary had played host to Philadelphia’s celebration of Bastille Day. The prison which served from 1829 to 1971 is now a National Historic Monument. Marie Antionette can be heard yelling “let them eat Tastykake” a Philadelphia pasty tradition since 1914.

I finally finished up one of the first videos I ever shot with the 2 piece RCA VCR and camera I bought in 1983. It was quite cumbersome by today’s standards and the battery life was quite short. My good friend Chris “Theo” Theodore led the interviews with some of Philly’s most colorful characters.
