As i've said a lot of times in this blog, i love love food and of course i enjoy it more when i am with great company. So for my christmas lunch with childhood friends we decided to go to Lolo Dad's Cafe in Malate.

Interiors with a big open show kitchen.

We all decided to order the degustation menu. And i have to say, it was sooo worth it! It was a memorable meal and a perfect year end lunch.

Complimentary bread basket with butter.

Garlic Pimenton Prawn w/ Spanish Caviar and Grilled Chorizo on vacuum cooked cantaloupe.

Super enjoyed the prawn!

Honey and Macadamia nut oil glazed Duck Breast and Pan Fried Duck Liver. Cranberry marmalade, young lettuce and popcorn salad.

I love duck breast, i love duck liver and i love macadamia! love X 3!!! ;) So this was my favorite of all!

Truffle Powder dusted Diver Scallops w/ Three Pea and Soft Potatoes.

My 2nd favorite dish! The scallop was cooked perfectly! Light but very flavorful.

Calamansi sorbet

Roast Tajima Wagyu Ribeye w/ Braised Ox Tongue, Goat's Brie Cheese Fried Pie, Shallots, Mushrooms.

Just ok for me, i've had better steak and i'm not fond of ox tongue but i really liked the fried brie cheese!

Dark Valrhona Chocolate Cannoli w/ Fresh Strawberries, Vanilla Almond Ice Cream and Rosemary Butter Cake.

I loved this too! I thought i was too full to finish this but i just can't help myself! haha i guess it's that good!

I can't wait to go back as there are a lot of dishes in the a la carte menu that i still want to try. I highly recommend this place for those special occasions and romantic dates. Valentines day is coming up, i suggest you make reservations now! More date place options here.

How was everyone's long weekend? I went to Boracay with K and a couple of friends. I super enjoyed our trip that's why i'm still on vacation mode up until now. I'm still not functioning well. haha. I'll be back to normal next week and will post about Fall/Winter trends! ;) For now all i can think about is the sunny weather in boracay and lounging by the beach with cocktails in hand. Plus, the gloomy manila weather doesn't help at all!

On one of my lunch dates with friends i suggested we try Casa Roces because i saw pictures of the place online. It seems like a perfect venue to spend a saturday afternoon relaxing and catching up! Good thing we did coz we loved loved the place!

Le Spa Time

A few weeks ago i had a spa date with my mom at Le Spa in Sofitel hotel. My bonding time with mom usually consists of the usual girly activities like shopping, facials, afternoon tea time or trying out different spas. This time we headed out to Roxas blvd. to give Le Spa a try. Upon entering you'll be greeted by a warm and friendly receptionist, who also can answer all your questions about their different services. She recommended Le spa signature massage for us. It's a combination of swedish and traditional filipino massage - hilot.

We loved our room! We wanted to sleep there the whole afternoon! :) The massage was great too. After the massage, there's even some complimentary fruits in yogurt. What a sweet way to end. Sadly, my satisfaction ended with Le spa. We decided to have snacks at Le bar and it was a disappointment! My coffee was ok but not great. The clubhouse sandwich was tasteless, i just ate the fries. The opera cake was not how an opera cake should taste like. Hopefully, Sofitel can improve on Le bar.

Happy Birthday Rosz!

We celebrated Rosz's birthday a day early at their new home yesterday. It was a fun day eating and celebrating with friends. I wanted to feature their lovely home already but Rosz wanted to finish with the place first. Restaurant of the Month: Shanghai Uncle

Rosz and I was at Shanghai last week to attend the advertising expo. And Shanghai Uncle was recommended by our friend for authentic Shanghainese cuisine. So on our last day we decided to try it. We had a hard time going to the place because the concierge told us it was just near and we could walk going there. It took us almost 20 minutes by foot! Maybe it was near for them but it was quite far for us. Especially if we're already hungry! haha It was packed when we arrived good thing there's one more table left. Everything looked good and we wanted to try almost all their dishes! We can't decide so we ordered up a storm!

Fried Shrimp Balls

yum! we loved this.

Meatball w/ Crab Sauce

we loved the sauce but the meatball was too mushy for us

Kale w/ XO sauce

Steamed Halibut w/ Deep Fried Spring Onions

we loved the spring onions! it was the saviour of the somewhat boring fish

this was recommended by the waiter but it was too sweet for us

It was a nice last day lunch in Shanghai. We enjoyed the food, service and the place. Now we were happy to walk for 20 minutes going back to the hotel because we were so full! :)

Patisserie Sadaharu Aoki

I've already finished with my what i wore and what i ate in Taipei post. But Patisserie Sadaharu Aoki deserves a separate post! It was truly one of the highlight of our trip. K first saw the place while surfing the net for places to eat in Taipei. He was determined to take me there to try out their desserts and of course their macaron. He told me that they only have shops in Paris, Tokyo and Taipei. So we squeezed an afternoon of sweets on our Taipei itinerary.

the intense color makes them look like make-up palettes!

crunchy on the outside yet chewy and gooey inside. the salted caramel was my fave!

Citron and myrtille

good texture and chocolate taste but nothing exceptional for me

Fraise Cream Cake

my fave dessert of the day! It was light and fresh and the strawberries were really sweet. I can probably eat a whole cake of this! ;)

Valencia Cake

K's favorite. Layers of hazelnut bottom, milk chocolate mousse, dark chocolate cake and orange cream on top.

We managed to finish everything until the last morsel even if we just came from a heavy lunch! haha that's how good they were. We even came back the next day to buy more macarons to go. So whenever you visit Taipei be sure to include this in your itinerary. It will be worth it!

Fall Jewelry Trend: Filigree

When i saw refinery 29's fall jewelry trend forecast i fell in love with the chunky filigree trend! The current filigree trend uses resins in punchy colors and not the usual gold and silver material.

I'm lusting over the Proenza Schouler fall '11 neckpiece and the aqua filigree cuff by Moschitto. Hope i could get my hands on them. I could already imagine a million ways to wear them! ;)
