It’s impossible to mentally grasp the scale of our existence without reference points. Surprisingly this simple animation puts things into perspective extremely well.

It’s unfortunate that it falls short in the design department because the actual data presented is quite amazing.

It’s a flash animation, sucks I know, but it’s worth putting down the iPhone and heading to a computer to check it out.

Slate has a great article about Chipotle and how they’re revolutionizing the food industry (a la Apple) although not getting the credit they deserve.

This further solidifies my love for Chipotle and I can’t help but be thoroughly impressed by their use of sous-vide cooking (typically considered only for cutting edge haute cuisine). There’s a reason everything tastes so good.

Chipotle’s definitely a standout company in a space where it’s nearly impossible to rise above the ‘fast food’ label.

Chipotle – Chelsea

Reading about their restaurant in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan has me jonesing for a quick little trip to NYC. At this store they have a renowned chef on the line testing new recipes. That’s not only impressive, but quite brilliant.

It was a nice evening for a little sunset shooting. Dave with his Canon 60D, me with my iPhone 4S.

This was shot, edited and uploaded all from the phone, something that I quite like doing these days. So when I posted it on the interwebs some questions cropped up about the apps that I use to post-process.

First I just want to say that these are by no means the best apps for editing on the iPhone, they’re merely the tools that I chose to use for this photo. And the apps that I use do change relatively frequently, for example, Pro HDR is one that I downloaded while we were out shooting, so don’t consider this an exhaustive list.

This photo in particular was shot using the Pro HDR app, edited using Snapseed, Mattebox, re-processed a couple times using Pro HDR and finally color graded using Camera+.

It’s funny because we have immense artistic power with Photoshop and Lightroom, but overcoming it’s limitations and shooting and editing solely with the iPhone is very fulfilling.

Can you commit to 9 cups of vegetables a day?

Dr. Terry Wahls was wheelchair bound with MS. That was until she went Primal/paleo and began consuming 9 cups of vegetables a day, along with grass fed and Omega-3 rich meats. After 7 years of the “best” in medicine, it took her just 3 months to begin walking. And after 9 months she was able to ride 18 miles on her bicycle.

Many have questioned the validity of the “caveman diet”, but I have yet to find any proven opposition to it. Time and again, however, I find amazing stories like this.

If eating Primal can cure MS how much better can it make you feel when you’re already healthy?

It’s no secret, but there’s something about shooting, post-processing and uploading photos from my iPhone that I really like. Granted, the shots and post processing doesn’t stack up to our DSLR/RAW processing, but it sure is fun.

5:12am – as I head to bed

This is absolutely beautiful and may be hanging somewhere in our house in the near future.

I’m a sucker for killer information design and this guy really nailed it on this one.

It was a glorious day for football yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised by my second favorite team, #anyonebutgreenbay ;)

Earlier today Jeremy Cowart posted this photo and the following:

If there was any doubt as to the possibility of using an iPhone 4S as an everyday shooter I think this clears it up quite nicely.

Of course the camera and the software (in this case, apps) are simply tools to create your art. Jeremy’s an extremely talented photographer and he knows a thing or 2 about printing. But the tool itself has so vastly improved that simply using a camera phone we can now create and print photos that rival that of the DSLRs of yesteryear.

And we can shoot, post process and upload all from the same, magical device.

I being able to shoot, edit and instantly upload photos on the go from a top notch camera. This mobile connectivity coupled with it’s excellent optics makes the iPhone 4S my ultimate camera.

Would I ever ditch my Canon 5D Mark II for the iPhone 4S? Of course not. They’re completely different devices with differing uses. To compare the two would be like comparing a Ferrari to a gallon of milk, but the iPhone definitely has it’s place in my photographic toolkit and is something that I use in myriad ways every day.

Barring some sort of ground breaking advancement in point and shoots, their days are definitely numbered. In my mind they’re already obsolete.

We finally watched Exit Through the Gift Shop, a highly entertaining and extremely inspiring documentary about one man’s unbridled passion to create.

In the beginning it plays out like it’s merely a documentary following street artists and seems to be leading up to discovering the famed and mysterious artist, Banksy. But instead it’s a film by Banksy all about the filmmaker who was documenting them, which actually turns out to be hilarious and extremely inspiring.

If this movie doesn’t make you want to go out and create your art (whatever that might be) nothing will. This man’s unbridled enthusiasm and passion for the art of filmmaking and for art itself is awe inspiring.

I highly recommend giving it a watch.
