Millions of fans have been waiting for the next Godfather novel and when author Ed Falco received the call that he in fact was chosen for the task, he wasn't certain he could tackle it all. In my interview with the acclaimed author, Falco discuss his own internal battles with the violence in the book, his concerns about perpetuating stereotypes of Italian Americans and what it was like stepping into the footsteps of one of America's greatest storytellers, the late Mario Puzo.

For those who haven't read any of The Godfather books, what is The Family Corleone about?

I think it's about corruption, and I think it's about the role of violence and money and opportunity in American culture. These are immigrant families, and they're facing choices and one of the choices which faces most immigrant populations is to simply take what they want outside the law. And this is a family that makes that choice.

How did you get chosen for this? Because you're picking up where a great master, Mario Puzo, left off.

I got chosen because my agent is also the agent for the Puzo family, and he knows my work. I had several novels and story collections before this, and the themes that I deal with were often themes of violence and corruption. In fact, in 2000 he originally approached me about being one of the people considered to do the sequels to the novel. At that point, I was working on another novel and it didn't seem right to me, so I declined. But a year and a half ago, I started getting interested in popular fiction. He knew that and the prequel came up, so he asked me again and I jumped at it.

Are you worried that novels such as The Family Corleone that deal with so much violence may be encouraging it or glorifying it?

Yeah, that was a huge issue for me. But, of course, that's been an issue for me in all of my writing. How does one write about violence without also a sense that you're using it to attract readers? You know, we live in a culture where violence is such an everyday part of life that there's no way not to write about it, at least not for me. So, it's always a kind of tightrope I'm walking, thinking about questions of violence as an important and legitimate subject and also thinking of it as titillation, you know, and what is the line between the two? In my earlier novels, it was less of an issue because I know The Godfather readers are coming to it in part because of the gangster element of the story, and they're expecting to see violent scenes, so it was more of an ethical question for me in the novel. I hope no one goes out and chops off somebody's head after reading the book. You know, we watch football and we don't go out and crash into the next person we meet, but we watch it certainly for the violence of it. I have to admit to myself that I love gangster movies and The Godfather movies were among my favorites

Being Italian American, are you concerned about perpetuating stereotypes about Italians all having some type of mob connection?

Well, there are actually some startling statistics about that. Something like 75 percent of the American population seem to think that all Italian Americans have connections to crime or know somebody in the mafia, which is just silly. But, I guess these are the same people who think Obama was born in Kenya and is a Muslim. I don't know what to make of it. But the facts are that Italian Americans are like 0.0006 percent involved in crime, so the facts seem to be directly in opposition to the perceived myth, that every Italian American has some sort of mafia connection in their past. Yeah, I was concerned about that. My family are second-generation Italians and nobody went on to be criminals. At the end of the novel, there's a particular scene where Michael recounts to Vito the mass lynching in New Orleans of Italian Americans and the father thinks it must be African Americans who are lynched, yet it was Italian Americans hung from lampposts.

Let's talk a little about your writing style. How do you mimic sort of the style of Mario?

That was a choice we made early on not to mimic Mario Puzo's writing style. I mean, he's one of a kind and his style is largely expository. He does a lot of talking in his books. He just tells you stuff. And that style wasn't a good fit for me. I prefer scenic writing where you show stuff as it happens. Mine is much more scenic than Mario's, which is expository. I tend to go deeper into characters through action, and Mario tends to tell about characters.

How do you tackle something like this? Do you outline first?

I sat down with the book and the movies and all of that material and started imagining this story, and I wound up writing an outline that went like 150 pages when they were expecting 10 pages. So, they had Tony Puzo of the Puzo family, John Karp and my agent sign off on it. From the outline, I just dug into the writing. For me, one of the biggest questions was how to handle the specifics of the material since it's so sprawling. There's the original novel, there are the two sequels, there are the three movies and all of the stuff that has followed. So, there's all this massive material to try to deal with, and much of it is contradictory. There are so many contradictory versions, it's hard to get a chronology. You can't pin down a chronology, you know, and say this happened then, this happened then, because Mario himself was not very careful about details, and so he often contradicted himself within the book. So, the big decision was to treat the whole thing as myth, and once I made that decision and decided that this was really an American myth, it had become part of our mythology, then I could just tell my story and try to set up a timeline that's accurate but not worry about it being precisely the same and allow myself to do variations on things.
With his family history, it would be too easy to say that the choice for Austin Brown to pursue music as a career was as "easy as 1, 2, 3." The son of Rebbie Jackson and Nathaniel Brown, Brown's own career is starting off strong.

His debut album is being released this year by The Royal Factory, an independent record label Brown cofounded after listening to some advice from his uncle Michael -- Jackson, that is.

Although he loves his family, Brown is determined to be considered as a serious artist in his own right. He told me that he finds it vital that "people actually listen to me instead of listening to the next generation Jackson or because I'm Michael Jackson's nephew. That's all. Just listen. And if you like it, cool. And if you don't, I'll get you the next time."

Rivera:Austin, there's so much competition out there in the music scene. What makes your music different?

Brown: Well, I have two producing partners. We all have producing background. I started producing when I was 13. Tommy's been producing for years, and he's produced songs for Janet and Britney Spears. And Scott's just another amazing producer. We all are fans of music. So, when we really look at a song, and we really look at a theme for it - Like "Menage a Trois", we really wanted to go into something that felt like Motown. It's us paying homage to all of our heroes and trying to interpret music the way we see it in our humble opinion, and saying, "thank you" to those guys who really paved the way for us.

Rivera: Yeah. "Menage a Trois" reminded me of a Motown record.
Brown: Yeah. We were listening to "Bernadette" non-stop from the Four Tops. And it was such a cool, unique, fun sound. So we thought, how can we bring it to our generation to make them love it the same way we do? And that's our quest. And I think when you look at all musical heroes, in a sense, they've all kind of done that in the sense, paid homage to their heroes in the way really creating their own sound, and they've inspired us in the same way.

Rivera: Well, it's interesting that title - Let's talk about the title of it because your family - some of your family is very conservative.

Brown: Well, I knew my mother - being Jehovah's Witness was going to give me the most flak. But the song is not about a threesome. It's about a love triangle. It was my idea to call it "Menage a Trois" because I wanted to really get something that would pique your interest. But in France, it could be a living arrangement back in the early centuries between three people. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Rivera: Exactly. Let's talk a little about your song writing process. How does it go from an idea to something that we can hear on iTunes?

Brown: Well, it's funny. That's why I love being able to work with my partners because we all come up with different ideas. Like, Tommy might come up with the full idea of song and lyrics. And then, he'll bring it to us, and we'll say, "Well, let's try this. Let's try that." Or maybe I'll come up with the chord structure on my guitar and sing melodies. And then, we'll go into the studio, and be like, "What can we do for this?"

Rivera: How would you say that breaking into business is different now than maybe it would have been five years ago?
Brown: Completely different. It's better now because you have more control because of social media. You can have direct contact with your fans. You can put on shows. You can promote them with those tools we didn't have before. You had to go through mailing list before. Social media has been one of the biggest things for me.

Rivera: What made you think not to add your family's name to your stage name?

Brown: Because it's not my last name.

Rivera: Yeah, but you could have easily added it and been Austin Brown-Jackson or Austin Jackson-Brown.

Brown: Yeah but I mean, in a sense my family name is a blessing because I'm fortunate enough to be a part of the family who's accomplished amazing things. But at the same time, it's important for people to get to know me and not really think about only the Jackson thing. I really, really, really love music with all my heart and soul. I, like everyone else, was influenced by my family musically. I think they still do phenomenal work.

Rivera: Right. What do you think though is one of the common misconceptions about your family?

Brown: A lot. I mean, that - I think people have a perception that my family is out there and weird and have drama. But every family has drama. Every family does. It's just you don't know about it. And don't get me wrong. There's been our fair share. I just wish people knew the real side of the family, how much love and passion we have for what we do. In a sense, it really is normal. It's not as out there as what people as may feel. And maybe they will never get that, and it's okay.

Rivera: What would you say is your greatest challenge as a musician today in terms of taking your career to the level?
Brown: A couple of things - deciding where I want to go next musically because there are so many options. And then, at the same time, tackling it the right way. Getting people to actually listen to me instead of just seeing me as the next generation Jackson or a Michael Jackson's nephew. Just listen to my music. If you like it, cool. And if you don't, I'll get you the next time.

There's something about his voice that transcends beyond all years, cultures and languages; a voice and a song that bonds people in a world where all we hear of is hatred and separation.

That's what Sir Elton John's voice and music does and his recent concert at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in San Jose, Costa Rica was no different. Blending his new album of today with the songs we've grown to love, John, with the help of veteran band members, had the crowd on their feet.

Although culturally, ticos are not prone to break out in a sweaty dance-mess on the concert floor, somehow Sir John's music shattered all cultural taboos and the deafening cheers lead to foot stamping and people moving their "groove thang." From "Bennie and the Jets," "Rocket Man" and "Daniel" to his famed "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and "Candle in the Wind" ballads, Sir John lead us into our own memories of time periods in our lives and what his lyrics meant to us in those moments.

Gifted tickets by one of Sir John's inner circle, we were privileged to be on eye-level with the music icon and experience first hand the essence that is his music. But even those in the nose-bleed seats couldn't contain their enthusiasm.

A special treat was his opening act, 2Cellos who took a classic spin on a number of contemporary songs that drove the crowd crazy even as sheets of rain drizzled across them.

What I was surprised by was to see not only Sir John's genius musicianship with his pop favorites but how adept at jazz piano he was. His voice never tethered as he belted hit song after hit song, non-stop. Whatever the cost, whatever the distance, when Sir Elton John's concert hits your town, get there.
He's certainly on the right path, signing a deal with major label, EMI Music/Capitol Latin and Ricky Martin's publicist, Rondine Alcalá. And that's not all. His fans, now in the millions worldwide, have pushed him to the top of the Latin Music Charts. In fact, Alboran became Spain's bestselling artist in 2011 and it all began with a simple YouTube video.

In my interview with Alboran, he discusses how he's handling his sudden success, his rise to fame and what he's doing to separate himself from the pack.

It's been a long time coming for you, Pablo. Even Kelly Rowland has been singing your praises. What is it like to have your first single do so well? And what makes your sound so different?
I'm very excited. And I feel like I owe a lot to everybody that has believed in me. What makes my music different is that what I create comes from my soul, and I speak about my truth. I have a lot of musical influences, and I try to make them my own, mix them and base them on my experiences.

One thing that I noticed is that you have this great Spanish accent when you sing. And most of the time, people try to hide their accents so they can blend in. Why did you decide to go ahead and sing the way that you speak?
Because that's who I am and where I'm from. Those are my roots and that's something that I cannot deny.

You've been at this for years. How long have you been trying to make it, and what were some of the difficult times like when you were trying to finally become successful?
It's something that I've always felt since childhood, to follow this dream of music. For me, it's a necessity to express my feelings through music. In my case, once I recorded the album it all happened very quickly thanks to social media, especially Facebook and YouTube. I am grateful to each and every person that has supported me and believed in my record since the beginning. Since I uploaded the first YouTube video I haven't stopped working really hard each day to give my best to the fans.
There were days where I had no idea any of this was going to happen. I mean, at first, I was in school studying marketing and I hated that so I tried philosophy but all along I just wanted my music out there. I would play at friends' houses, local benefit concerts in Malaga, my hometown, anywhere people would have me.

How were you discovered? Because you said that YouTube had a big part of it. How did you go from being like everybody else who wants to do music professionally to finally being signed to a record deal?
I was discovered by a journalist from Málaga. He introduced me to my producer and we started working together with the songs that I'd already written. It took about three-and-a-half years to make the record. Last year, while we were recording the album, I became desperate to show people what I was actually doing because nobody believed me. Everybody would ask me, my family, my friends, "Well, aren't you recording an album?" So, I decided to upload some of the songs to YouTube and started sending it out to my family, my friends, and they started to share it with their friends and post them on Twitter and Facebook... And then, all of a sudden, the reaction was just amazing. The same people that followed me on the social networks experienced with me this rise. I owe my fans having a No. 1 single, sold out concerts and tours, the nominations and the awards.

I want to ask you about Solamente Tú, which is such a beautiful song. What's the story behind that song? Who are you singing to? And what advice do you have for others who want to follow in your success?

It's not about a specific love story. It's more about the feeling that you have when you fall in love. Be it a relationship, be it a family member. It's more about the feelings of when you feel there's only one person -- that you can declare your love to.

As far as advice, I'm nobody to give advice. I'm only a 22-year-old guy whose life changed completely. I just think that no matter what dreams you have, you have to follow them. It doesn't matter how cheesy they are or what anybody else is saying. You have to live in the present and enjoy the little things in life.
They're filled with fluff from people who really don't know what they're talking about or and who are only rich from selling books about well, how to be rich.

What I really want (and what many really want when they look for a book that will inspire them and guide them in business) is advice from people who weren't born into money but grew it and cultivated it from scratch. That's what I was hoping to read when I ran across billionaire Mark Cuban's How to Win at the Sport of Business.

In short, it exceeded my expectations. In one sitting, I completely devoured the pages. Short chapters that got right to the point and were not filled with "stuffing." That's the beauty of today's generation of eBooks -- the page-count is not used as a justification for higher prices.

Yet in Cuban's book, you get way more than you paid for. He takes you through the emotional journey he went through -- struggling to make it, sharing an apartment with six people, sleeping on the floor -- to where he is today.

He guides you by the hand through the rules he's developed for himself over the years that have lead him to becoming one of the most successful men in the country. I was fortunate enough to have a short interview with Mr. Cuban about his experiences as he describes in his book and how he made it through the rough patches.

There are many college students who are just beginning and can relate to you when you said you were sharing a small apartment with six people and sleeping on the floor. How can someone keep their eye on the prize when they're living on Ramen noodles?

Who cares how you are living today? I loved every minute of living in that dump. The low rent and utilities and eating Mac and Cheese all the time allowed me to afford the startup of my business. Instead of paying myself much, I could put it in to my business.

One of my favorite parts of your book, How to Win at the Sport of Business, that completely broke my heart was when your ex-secretary robbed your first company of over $83,000, leaving you only $2,000 after a year of work. If someone has lost everything, what advice do you have for them to pick themselves back up?

Keep working. Don't feel sorry for yourself because it won't do any good.

One part in your book I loved and my heart sank at is when your fiance lost your $7,500 engagement ring. What's your advice for those who are distracted by a relationship? How do you balance a real life with your dreams?

I never was able to balance. Each person has to make their own decisions. But remember, your competitors aren't sitting by idly waiting for you to have a nice dinner with your significant other. They are trying to kick your ass. So, choose wisely.

There are many out there that dream of creating their own business but haven't a clue where to start. What advice do you have for them?

Find something you love to do, can do on your own and doesn't require any more capital than you can afford to lose personally. The most valuable asset you have is your time, talents and ability to communicate. Focus on those strengths and what you can do rather than what you can't do.

I haven't been able to hear for four days from all the women screaming their lungs out and crying when we attended Ricky Martin's concert in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Although it had been raining nonstop for days in San Jose, including the night of the concert, that did not stop his devouted fans from standing for hours in order to get inside the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium to see the sex symbol. Thousands of fans erupted in chaotic applause and screams as the stage lights came on and the silhouette of Ricky Martin and his dancers straddled in a cage-like structure appeared.

His rhythmic choreographed and sensual moves drove the crowd crazy. Song after song from Living La Vida Loca to the most recent songs from his hit album Música + Alma + Sexo, belted from his mouth.

The years have been kind to Ricky and he was not afraid to reveal just enough of his chiseled body to get the girls (and guys) screaming again. What I was really impressed with was how his background singers, dancers and band were so perfectly choreographed. They were not sloppy or a hot mess like other concerts I've seen before. Everyone was as much of a perfectionist as Martin.

How Martin managed to make the entire audience hot and bothered, without being overtly sexual, is beyond me. Perhaps it's his Puerto Rican blood, or his years as a veteran stage performer. Maybe it was his looks or his hypnotic voice. Whatever it was, he had a wall of thousands of fans in the stadium to prove it.

The set wasn't too extravagant. It didn't need to be, it was just the right amount. Other artists need as much of a " smoke and mirrors" show as they can muster to hide the fact that they really aren't that good. For Martin, that wasn't the case. A large big screen behind the cage-like structure, perfectly positioned lights and rather enjoyable transitional dance numbers kept us at bay while we waited for Martin's next set.

I have to say, I've been to my fair share of concerts and I came away a bigger fan of Ricky Martin's than I was before.

I kept thinking back to how courageous Martin was for showing the world the full range of who he is as a performer. For any other A-listers who are questioning whether their fanbase will leave them after coming out of the closet, let his courage and conviction be an example to you. (That or all the women's undergarments that were thrown on the stage.)

His music has transcended fears and the doubts of others who may have warned him not to reveal who he was. Heterosexual, homosexual, anyone in between, Martin welcomed them all. True art, true music, true performance, true talent will overshadow and conquer all.
Marc Anthony graced the Costa Rican stage belting out pure beauty in his opening line. The crowd erupted in excitement as it was his first time he performed on the newly crowned Estadio Nacional stadium.

The seasoned pro that he is, Anthony seemed to erase from our minds the tabloid drama that plagued our television sets about his personal relationship and in that moment, we were at an intimate dinner club, just him and us. Though he never spoke of his own personal relationship, he told us a story through his lyrics of the pains, and joys and sorrows and ecstasy he'd experienced.

His tight dark suit and movie star shades masked his rather petite and we were in the presence of a giant, a superstar. A show highly recommended.

alt="" width="201" height="251" /> Pen Densham is one of my new favorite people. Â You know him best as the head of Trilogy Entertainment, a writer/producer of such films as Robin Hood. Â His production company is one of the most trusted and respected companies in the entertainment industry and yet he has not allowed that (nor his two Oscar nominations) to go to his head. Â Here is a gentleman who is always on the look out to create and to give back. Â Despite the Hollywood hoopla, he knows when the lights dim, and the red carpet is rolled up, the writer (which he prides himself to be first and foremost) must roll up his sleeves and write.

But what do you do when you're stuck? What do you do when you're no longer on a roll? Densham wrote an incredible book on the subject, that I highly recommend called Riding the Alligator. And in our interview with him today, he gives solid advice on what you can do if you are battling with writer's block and so much more.

After cutting his teeth on successful horror films, Taylor partnered with Oscar winner Jamie Foxx on a production company called No Brainer Productions which has been developing film and television series that do not shackle them to the type of films many would expect from them just because they are African American.

Take No Brainer's newest project, Tommy's Little Girl, a television series that will debut on NBC this Fall starring Selma Blair. It does not star African Americans and for good reason as Taylor, who embraces his heritage, yet feels the best way to serve his community is simply to make a good film or television show first, no matter who's the star.

I was rather inspired by my interview with Taylor today where he discusses his creative process, their upcoming films and the best piece advice he could ever give an aspiring filmmaker.
David Lynch is the legendary director of films and television series such as The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet, Mullholand Drive and Twin Peaks. He has won award after award and has A-List actors chasing after him for the privilege of working with him as a filmmaker. However, Lynch does not limit his creative pursuits to only films. Instead, Lynch has been releasing music without much fanfare in the past to the tune of his own beat. Just like his quirky, dark films, a man many regard as a genius has created a sound that is both gripping, sophisticated yet down-home and digestible in his two singles "Good Day Today" and "I Know". In today's interview, Lynch tells us all about his music endeavors as well as his creative process as well.
