Champagne Face On A Beer Budget

I don't know very many women who would prefer to spend a ton of money on their makeup products. As much as I adore my cosmetics, if I can get by with scaling back on them so that I can spend more money on other necessities (um, groceries for my family of 5, gasoline, a good haircut, etc) then I'm pretty happy. So I am going to show you that it IS POSSIBLE to look like a million bucks on a beer budget...

{My ENTIRE makeup look from Walgreens - BAM!!}

My entire look, minus the tank top and earrings obviously, came to a whopping 40 bucks!

For my SKIN, the products that were my magic bullets to looking pretty darn flawless were :

Maybelline's Dream Smooth Mousse in "classic ivory" - applied all over.
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser in "neutralizer" - applied under eyes, around sides of my nose, and around my mouth before applying my red lips.
For highlighting, I got creative and used my Wet n' Wild Coloricon shadow trio in "walking on eggshells." I used the pink shade as blush, the brown as my bronzer/contouring, and the ivory part as the actual highlight on tops of my cheekbones and nose. They're all shimmers by the way, no flat colors in this trio.

For my EYES, the best way to look expensive is to have lots of lashes, so scoring the false lash strips was key.

Andrea ModLash strips in Bat those Lashes #21 - these were put on after all of the other eye makeup was applied. Luckily, it came with a tiny sample tube of glue so I didn't have to buy that separately which helped keep my total bill lower! Score!
Wet n' Wild Coloricon in "walking on eggshells"- I used this trio for my entire eye bed including the brown to fill in my brows. Which honestly doesn't look that great because it's not dark enough and has shimmer in it, but luckily I have heavy bangs to hide that! Ha!
Wet n' Wild mega impact mascara - this actually turned out to be an excellent choice for mascara, and it was only a 1.99 after using my Walgreens card - woah! You literally can't beat that.
Wet n'Wild H20 proof liquid liner in black - this liner is a product I've been using for over 3 years now and it produces the best stay put cat eye in the biz. You have to scrub, scrub, scrub to get this stuff off. Which is great in my opinion because with a cat eye as thick and exaggerated as I've created, it has to stay precise to look sophisticated and can't be fading or running around your face.

And last but certainly not least, the bold RED LIPS addition is what tops this look off to making it look expensive...

Rimmel Lasting Finish lipstick by Kate Moss in "Kiss of Life"- a gorgeous matte red that rivals any of my department store reds. It's shockingly similar to MAC's "Russian Red" I wore here.

One tool that I did use a lot while shopping the aisles of Walgreens, was my Pretty In My Pocket app. This thing just gets better and better with helping me to make wise makeup buying decisions. And it's super fun to be able to scan barcodes on my own with just my iPhone to pull up reviews of the various products while in the store!! Yes, a 35 year old mom of 3 can get her kicks off something so simple!! Ha! Even a professional makeup artist like myself can use a little help and advice from others in their experience with these drugstore options. This app is changing the way I buy makeup by helping me to not spend unnecessary money on products that won't work for me.

So what do you think of my champagne face? Does it look more Dom Perignon than Andre??! Ha!! (Andre is a much cheaper version of champagne if you didn't get that comparison!)

9 Life Saving Makeup Products

I have my go-to makeup products just like any other girl. Even though I have probably over 500 products (maybe more, never actually counted, too overwhelming) from glosses, powders, blushes, liners, and foundations, oh my!, I still have my favorites.

Life saving, or face-saving, here are my top 9 at the moment...

{Yes, that's a tiny life jacket prop. Pretty creative huh??}

L'Oreal Infallbile eye shadow in "Continuous Cocoa." I can use this stay put powder for multiple things - it's my new brow filler (the perfect shade!!), eyeliner, or for a deep brown smokey eye shadow.
Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I wear this eye lid primer EVERY day. I can't wear eyeshadow without it anymore. It makes my shadow stick, stay put, with no fading or creasing. It's colorless, so every skin tone can benefit from it.
Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume mascara. This gives me perfectly thick lashes without the clumping. I buy the waterproof formula because it has longer staying power, no flaking, and keeps the curl better in my lashes, which brings me to...
Tweezerman Eyelash curler. I curl my lashes every day too. It's an immediate eye opener, especially since my lashes are stick straight. Mascara always looks better on curled lashes, always. Here are some recent stylish Tweezerman products I blogged on here.
Too Faced Matte Eye Shadow Collection. I'm into matte shadows right now, especially for when I need to look polished without a bunch of glitter fuss. Every single shade is so sophisticated and very grown up.
Maybelline Dream Lumi concealer. Can't say enough good things about this drugstore priced dark circle under eye cover up - so here's a blog post about it.
Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Powder in the illuminating finish. If I don't have any time for foundation (yikes!) I know my skin will look 10X better if I can just swipe a little of this powder across my face to give me a luminous glow.
MAC blush in "Pinch O Peach." My go-to bright pink, (not sure where they get the peach description from) blush for the summer time. This color brightens every complexion, seriously, example of me sporting it here.
L'Oreal Infallible lip gloss in "Sangria." Such a great lip gloss, I own every color in this collection (what?? I need them for clients!). The price is right, the shine and staying power is awesome, and this color in particular gives my lips just the right amount of plummy pink shine I can pull off for everyday.

I loved makeup from the moment I started watching my mother apply it to herself, post about that here. But there is something about wanting to own your very own products as a little girl and not having to borrow/share it with mom.

So I vividly remember one of my first beauty products that was bought just for me was the Dr. Pepper flavored Lip Smackers from Bonne Bell. I realize it's not a "true"makeup product if we want to get all technical, but it had just enough color to be more legit than clear chapstick, it tasted and smelled heavenly, and I had myself convinced it was lipstick. This product actually brings back so many great memories of my Granny who also wore this same product. I remember her keeping it right by her chair she used to watch TV in and would constantly reapply it while watching some of her favorite shows like Good Times and The Lawrence Welk Show - does this show my age?? Just so I don't sound like a complete old fogy, this product is also one of cutie hip actress Rachel Bilson's favorites!

I saw this lip smackers while scanning the Target aisles yesterday and just had to buy it again for old times sake. My first Caboodle, Sun In, and Designers Imposter's Body Sprays came right behind the lip smackers...very 1980's right??!

How To Get Nicole Kidman Canne's Look For The Every Day Lady

After looking through all of the photo footage from the Cannes Film Festival, I kept going back to the pictures of Nicole Kidman. She looked SO beautiful. The hair-do aside, (I can't make up my mind if I liked it or not, but it did showcase her pretty face) she was lady-like perfection from head to toe. Here's how I would recreate this look to work for an everyday lady...

From top to bottom:

Eyes - MAC "Satin Taupe" eye shadow

The perfect shimmery deep taupe to highlight blue eyes...or any eye color for that matter!

This is one of my favorite glamorous neutral shadows.

Skin - Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder

This pressed powder is getting all kinds of love for giving skin the most illuminating finish.

Lips - MAC "Crosswires" lipstick

This cream finish lipstick is a deep melon-pink shade that is the perfect summer lip color

for most skin tones.

Alice + Olivia "Rosie" Peplum Top

I obviously can't even fathom where I would ever need to wear such a stunning dress, (it certainly is too dressy for Target and the park) but I loved the intricate beading and sequins on the white crisp background. The best way of duplicating this look for everyday life but with a fancy touch would be with this Alice + Oliva sequined top. And I love the idea of pairing it with beat up denim!!

Revlon PhotoReady Kajal : One Eyeliner Double The Fun

Any beauty product that delivers me a two in one bonus, is a steal in my book...especially when it is available at a drugstore price!! One of Revlon's newest products, the PhotoReady Kajal Intense Eye Liner + Brightener delivers one single liner with double the fun and double the color.

I applied my normal eyeshadow ahead of time, and then added the blue nile shade to add some excitement to my boring brown shadow. The brightener side of the liner (the white and flesh tones) goes inside the inner waterline on the lower lash line to make the whites of the eyes seem brighter. This is one of my favorite makeup artist tricks to helping make your eyes look more awake and vibrant! Then you use the intense colored side to line the upper and/or lower lash line to add some nice contrast to your eye color.

These pencils will be available this June 2013 in 4 fabulously intense shades including mine shown above plus a Carbon Cleopatra color. These will get used in heavy rotation in my makeup routine for sure. I highly suggest you keep an eye out for these eye liners next month!

Time Flies

"The only reason for time is so everything doesn't happen at once," Einstein. Thank goodness for time then, because I wouldn't be able to handle it if all of this growing up my kids are doing happened at one time...

My 3 little people are officially done with school for this year. If you have children, you really understand the meaning of the saying, "Time Flies." This especially rings true when the school year comes to an end because it's a huge reminder of the time already gone by. It's super cliche, but it literally seems to be flying by. I am not sure where this year went - remember this posting back in August when they all first started school??

My goal this summer now that they will all be at home with me, is to soak them and this age in. Looking at all 3 of them today knowing this current school year is over and they'll all have bigger responsibilities next year when it comes to growing up, life lessons, and of course harder academics, I want them to enjoy their break. I also want to be able to enjoy them since we'll be having a lot of quality time together.

With all of this time together ALL day, I'm not sure how I'm going to juggle blogging, keeping up with my freelance business, and general house maintenance as easily as I did when they were all in school! However I do realize I'm lucky I'm going to get the opportunity to figure out how to do all of that at home with them this summer. It will certainly be a struggle and a bit chaotic at times, but I can't wait. I appreciated this quote from mom of 2, Ivanka Trump, in a recent Redbook magazine issue about the working mother debate.

Who knows what the next 2 months of blogs will look like - so hang in there with me!! Maybe I will finally be able to train a photographer who can help me out with self portraits...and the man behind the camera will be 7 years old! Ha!!

Product Review : Arcona Los Angeles

My makeup looks only as good as my skin does. That's why amazing skin care and product use is near and dear to my heart because it makes my life, and my makeup application, look easier and more flawless. And isn't flawless skin what we all strive for??

I appreciate and realize how blessed I am for all of the opportunities I get as a beauty blogger to try out some of the latest and greatest makeup and skin care products that companies are nice enough to send me. Some don't ever get mentioned if I don't find my readers will benefit from knowing about them, but then some blow me away that I MUST share with you all. Enter Arcona products into my life.

This brand was born from a German nurse turned esthetician named Arcona Devan who began making products in her home from the desire to use clean, natural, products from live active ingredients. One of the main points I liked when I read the back story, is that the ingredients are all cold processed, which helps to keep them active and effective as opposed to heat processing which renders them inactive. To make an easy comparison, it's like when you cook vegetables instead of eating them in their raw state, you take away a little of the good nutrients by adding heat. I'm learning something new everyday!!

This line has been around for over 15 years and has been used by celebrities such as Diane Lane, Regina King, Cher, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Madonna, just to name drop a few!!

{My skin in the true sunlight with minimal makeup on.}

I have been using these products for over 2 weeks now. I find you need to give most skin care products at least that long to give them a chance to really perform or make a difference. On a scale of 1-5, 1 being ho-hum and 5 being awesome, I'd give this brand a 5. I am truly impressed by Arcona.

I was sent a lot of products from the line to try, but I wanted to highlight a few of my absolute favorites that stood out from the crowd for my dry-tired-35-year-old skin.

*I will be honest, I do have on a little bit of makeup in these photographs. I had to attend a school function for my 1st grader, so I couldn't go completely SANS makeup - you know that's not my style:) However, I do have on minimal skin makeup for me, just concealer and one of my favorite drugstore powders I mentioned here. No foundation or tinted moisturizer used.*

{Cranberry Gommage exfoliator, $44 + White Tea Purifying Cleanser, $42}

My first two loves from this group of products were in the cleansing category.

The cranberry exfoliator smells amazing (almost like a light grape bubble gum), has super fine grains, and makes my skin feel incredibly smooth. It was an Allure Best of Beauty in 2011. A lot of cheap exfoliators have large grains that feel like you're beating up your skin, but this one is makes you feel like you're really doing something good for the surface of your skin!
The white tea cleanser is another product that has a super fresh scent, is full of great ingredients like Vitamin E, yucca, and of course soothing white + green tea. It's super gentle and I use it with my Clarisonic every night.

One of their "anytime" category of products that I have fallen in love with are the Triad Pads that are used for refreshing, cleansing, toning, and removing minimal makeup anytime.

Again, the scent is where it's at here. I could sniff these pads all day long and they do immediately make my skin feel refreshed and toned. These are good for on-the-go for the office, travel, or for a handbag refresher. With Omegas 3,6, and 9 plus rice milk to nourish the skin, these do not dry out my already dry skin and are very soothing. I even used these on my hubby, who would never do the whole face wash and water thing, so these are a great quick cleansing option for men in my opinion.

The last two stars of the group were from the PM Serum and Hydrating categories of products.

{Gentle Solution repair serum for night, $50 + Magic White Ice hydrating gel moisturizer, $40.}

The night serum is actually one of the only ones I didn't love love the scent on, but it performs so well, it didn't matter. This was for nighttime treatment and contains a Glycolactolymer complex which is used for rapid cell renewal and gentle exfoliation. This product made my skin feel like it glowed and gave me more refined pores by morning time.
The hydrating gel moisturizer was just that. It's lightweight, smells lovely, and can be used daily. It's got hyaluronic acid in it which is key for anti-aging. And goodness knows I can use all the anti-aging properties I can get my hands on!!

One of the best parts about this line is that they have an average price point of $45-50, which is super affordable for products this wonderful and contain these types of powerful ingredients.

Wednesday PowWow :: Who Is Your Biggest Beauty Influence?

Growing up, my mother never left the house without her makeup on. I never took this as her being super vain or anything, my memories were just thinking "WOW, my mom really takes care of herself and she looks SO pretty!!" I remember enjoying just watching her apply her makeup and hoping she would share a share a swipe of eye shadow or lip gloss with me if I stared at her long enough. For every ballet recital and dance performance I had growing up, she was the one that did my makeup for me. I loved every minute of it and watched her verrrry carefully trying to figure out how to do it to myself one day.

My mom isn't a professional makeup artist, but she was and still is a woman who truly enjoys "putting on her face" and trying out the latest and greatest beauty products. You should see her bathroom vanity - it rivals my makeup collection!!

I didn't have to think long or hard about this powwow. You can obviously see who influenced me early on when it came to my love of everything beauty, so now I want to know, Who is or was, YOUR biggest beauty influence?? And mom if you're reading this, thanks for being my beauty mentor, even when you probably didn't know it!!

Graphic Black Eyeliner Do's And Don'ts

Of course I understand one was going for a punk rock look, then the other was to channel a more mod 60's look. So both are a bit costume-y. Either way, thick black liner accentuating the tear duct area is a massive don't in my book and is neither flattering nor pretty. All of that heavy black liner on both sides of her eye completely swallows them and makes them disappear. But when a dark black liner is done just on the upper lash line and winged out slightly, that creates a more open and feminine eye, which is a definite do!

Happy Mama's Day

I thought of putting together a fab Mother's Day gift guide like we've seen all over the blogosphere, but honestly, just mentioning materialistic things don't really embody enjoying Mother's Day to me. All I can think of that I want/need is actual down time, sleep, being lazy, someone else cooking all 3 of my meals for me, things of that nature that money can't buy. Well, except maybe a nice quiet expensive restaurant meal...

I am thankful to these three little ones, who made me a mama.

I remember my very first Mother's Day like it was yesterday 7 years ago after my first born was here. I seriously couldn't believe it after years of struggling to start a family. I was getting to celebrate being someones mother, someone he would rely on for the rest of his life. It was, is, a HUGE deal. And now I have 3 of these little people I have been blessed with. Yes it's a struggle at times, ok, lots of times, but overall, they have enriched mine and my husband's life a millions times over. We honestly look at each other sometimes and wonder, what did we DO before any of them were here?? Life seemed so boring when we didn't have them running around!

So when my first little guy brought home many gifts he personally made for me at school, I was so excited and touched. Tiny potted plant, home made gift bag, decorated hot plate, plus a self illustrated booklet, I was over the moon. Yes, these homemade gifts are more meaningful than any pricey name brand item.

This booklet made me laugh, cry, and gasp out loud once I read it. Multiple pages of illustrations and writing from my 1st grader. Here are 2 pages in particular I loved, laughed at, and was slightly mortified by....

Me working with a client in my makeup chair. Love that he watches me when I work! That's a table behind me, and he said he didn't have time to draw all of my makeup products on top of it!

Yes, my son realizes how much mama loves a glass of wine. And now his teachers do as well...HA!!

So if you're a mom, have a mom, know a mom, make sure to celebrate yourself and those women around you this Sunday. Because mom's do a lot, all day, everyday, there's never any downtime for them. And if you were thinking of buying that special mom an expensive handbag or candle (which wouldn't be a bad thing, don't get me wrong!!), consider also giving her the gift of a day of doing whatever she wants just for herself and no one else. Because come Monday, her job is back to usual until Mother's Day 2014 rolls around! HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO YOU ALL!!

Loco For Lilac

May has finally started to rear it's warm-weather-head here in Georgia, and it is about time! The final change in this roller coaster weather we've had here in the south has inspired me to lighten up my makeup color palette...I'm going LOCO for LILACS!

{Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow in Watercolors #520}

{L'Oreal Infallible lipgloss in "Posy" + Nars blush in "Mata Hari"}

Eyes : Revlon PhotoReady palette in "Watercolors," $7.50. Shades of purple on the eyes are typically very flattering for all faces and skin tones. I love this Revlon mosaic because it has so many options of shades of lilac. I blended all 5 of the shades offered, I couldn't help myself. I didn't use an actual eye liner, and just lined my eyes along the upper and lower lash lines with the darkest purple in the palette by wetting my brush first.

Cheeks : Nars "Mata Hari" blush, $29. I chose this Nars blush because even though it's a pink, it has a slight plum-ish undertone. Makes the lilac palette on my face feel more cohesive having all of the main colors to be in the purple family.

Lips : L'Oreal Infallible Never Fail Gloss in "Posy," $8. The lip gloss also follows suit with an ever so slight lilac base to it's light pink shimmer. No lipstick or liner to keep my look fresh and not looking too fussy...since I'm fussy enough by having a complete lilac face!!

Clothing and accessory wise, when it comes to lilac shades, it can borderline sicky-sweet and look a little toddler-ish. But if I wanted to toughen up this girly shade, I'd wear a vneck tee like this one from Splendid (love love their tees!) or carry around a seriously dreamy bag like this Rebecca Minkoff Cupid one (if I had the extra cash flow that is - Mother's Day gift anyone?!!)....

I think gorgeous and always uber stylish Blake Lively should create her own style blog - I'd read it every day!! So today's powwow is pretty straight forward. I want to know "WHY do you read the blogs that you do?"

Is it for information or to learn more on a particular subject
Do you like the more personal blogs or the bigger ones
Do you visit ones that make you happy and for no reason other than that
For ones with interesting and beautiful photographs
Because you like the person that creates it and want to know more about them

Of course there are numerous other reasons you could be following your favorite blogs. I personally like to follow blogs that, 1. brighten my day, whether it be through cute photographs or inspirational words and 2. to learn more about my craft as a makeup artist. Occasionally I'll hit up some style and interior design blogs to try and soak up some info on those subjects I struggle with, (should hit up some cooking blogs then if that be the case!) but for the most part, I just follow blogs that make me happy - and happiness is makeup talk!!

What about you? What's your main reason for following the blogs that you do?

Celebrities Pushing The Beauty Envelope

Celebrities can get away with just about anything when it comes makeup, hair, and fashion - good OR bad choices. Publicity for a look gone right or gone bad is still publicity, which is always good in Hollywood, right?? Here are some recent stunners...

This one baffles me as I'm a huge Nicole fan mainly due to her style choices. She's usually right on target with the whole package of hair, makeup, and clothing. But this hair color misses the target completely for me though. I just don't get why this cute mom would choose to look like she's attending a Halloween costume party channeling the Bride of Frankenstein. By the look of her face here, she realizes she's made a huge mistake. Oh well, I'm positive she'll make up for it soon once the crazy Party City white spray has been washed out.

Apparently Nicole Richie wasn't the only one trying to go for shock value, click the dailymail.co.uk to see multiple photos from the Met Ball Gala. I think 75% of these attendees lost their style mojo for the evening and went a little coocoo for coco puffs! Especially Gennifer Goodwin's eye makeup (ouch) and prego Kim K and the way too wild flower print dress + matching gloves combo.

Thanks to Twitter, one of my friends tweeted me to see if I had seen the yellow lips JLo was sporting in a recent video shoot and would I be trying this shade myself?? To which I replied, "not this normal mom of three!" But darn it if somehow Ms. Lopez does pull it off and still look dang sexy in it!! My pale skin would not be a good compliment to this makeup choice. And honestly, she probably couldn't rock this taking her twins to school without getting some sideways glances from the other parents, but for a music video, it works.

If you've never heard of the girl with the dollar sign in her name and can't understand why I consider this a make-under, this is her look we're used to. Her hair looks fairly understated and dare I say, pretty, and she's wearing a girly shell pink lip instead of those crazy metallics or blues she's been known to sport. Nice to see it toned down once in a while Ke$ha!

The Kentucky Derby is like Easter Sunday on steroids when it comes to hat choices. The bigger and bolder the better. But I usually think everyone just looks ridiculous even though I know that's kind of what this event is all about...besides the actual horse race of course. The Most Universally Flattering Eye Shadow On The Market

I know, this is a bold statement. But I literally think I've found a shade of eye shadow that looks good on just about everyone, seriously. From brown eyes, to blue, to hazel, to grey, this one flatters all peepers...

{"Ondine" by Nars, $24.}

This shadow is a very wearable neutral with a bit of pizazz and ever so subtle shimmer. I've actually owned this color for over 5 years and they still keep it around the Nars family - which means it must be working for a lot of people! I would explain it as a deep taupe with a hint of plum/burgundy with a bronze like shimmer. It can be used wet or dry also which gives you options!

In addition to Ondine, the other products I'm wearing are:

EYES:

MAC "blanc type" shadow all over the lid (a matte ivory shade), Lancome's "Black Coffee" eye liner ($26) on top and lower lashlines with the Ondine shadow layered on top of the liner. This actually makes the subtle shimmer of the shadow show up even better!

SKIN & CHEEKS:

L'Oreal True Match Foundation in N2,

Physician's Formula Youth Boosting Illuminating Powder, and blush by MAC "Fleur Power."

(are you getting tired of hearing that I wear this blush almost every.single.day??)

LIPS:

Rimmel London Exaggerate lip liner in "eastend snob" and Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in "pink cognito" (available in June).

As a woman/mom who is always on the go and in a rush to get ready, this is one of those shades that I can rely on to give my eye color just enough boost without looking too "out there" or like I'm trying too hard! And as a makeup artist, I also know that it works for most of the women I work with who want an easy to wear flattering shadow that isn't the usual boring brown.

He is seriously one of those kids, who I have no doubt will ever apologize for who he is. I know he's only 5 and things could change, but I hope not. Katy Perry-Like Lashes

Every time I see Katy Perry, I immediately associate her with one of two things - hair color or lashes...or both. This time, we're going with putting the focus on lashes. Specifically, her line of lashes thru eylure of self adhesive false lash strips, to see if they can really make me look Katy Perry-like...

I typically only use individual lashes on myself because they turn out more realistic looking and for some reason I enjoy using the glue. Mentally I feel they stay put better as well with some adhesive. But these are self adhesive, meaning no glue necessary, you just strap them on! Here's how I attempted to go from Jenny to Katy with two lash strips...

{Eyeliner applied to upper right lash line only to show how I hide the strip.}

{Pencil eyeliner applied underneath the upper waterline to darker the lash line even further.}

{Finished look with the same espresso brown liner applied along lower inner waterline.}

Overall, these are some of the better inexpensive self adhesive lashes I've worn. They were pretty comfortable and the lash line was very flexible and soft. If I can be super critical, I would have liked the strip to have been a wee bit thinner and not as obvious. They did stay on the whole day without coming off which was impressive, but I've yet to put them to the test of reusing them to see if that will work.

Wednesday PowWow : Favorite Facial Feature

As a makeup artist, whenever I work with a new client, I usually start off by asking them, "What is your favorite feature about your face?" Sadly, most women don't immediately answer my question, and would rather go into telling me what they DON'T like about their face. I again, reiterate, PICK a POSITIVE feature, there has to be something you are proud of - your poreless skin, big eyes, sharp cheekbones, nice lips, long lashes, something you love about your face. It's okay to admit, "Hey, I've got something good here!" I almost feel like I'm playing therapist sometimes! I want women to feel strong and proud of what they've been born with and work with it!

I ask this question, because it helps me to play up that feature on their face that they love and then ultimately I play down the areas they don't love. Makeup is all an optical illusion and game of distraction!

So my question this week is What is your favorite facial feature? And what makeup products are key in playing up that feature?

My pick would have to be my skin. I love to play up the fact I've been blessed with a fairly even skin tone and hardly ever break out. So my equation for making it look even better is:

primer + foundation + concealer + illuminating powder + blush.

I always say, if you can perfect the skin then everything else can fall into place.

I love how these MINI TWEEZERS are super cute with their striped print. I currently own 2 Tweezerman tweezers (plus their eye lash curler) and this makes my 3rd pair. They are by far, my favorite brand of tweezers. They are sharp and angled just so, that you can literally get every hair without trying too hard. And when it comes to plucking tiny annoying hairs, it makes a huge difference in efficiency when you've got a good tool in your hands. These minis will be staying in purse from now on for on-the-go emergency plucking!!

The clarity of this MIRROR is crazy good and I can see every little detail on my face! It will be great for plucking those tiny brow hairs with the mini slant tweezers, no??! And the chevron print, one of my favorites - so stinking cute. It's so lightweight and flat, it could literally fit inside of something small like a wallet.

If it truly is unbreakable, we've hit gold. I can't tell you how many times my 2.5 year old loves to dig in my purse and look for a mirror to look at herself in, then manages to drop it on the hardest floor in her vicinity. She hasn't tested this one out yet, thankfully.

With it becoming flip flops and sandals season, my feet take a beating! This fancy SOLEMATES tool helps to remove that yucky dead foot skin with the micro file (the cheese grater looking side) and then buffs the skin with the finishing file side to make it smooth. These two sides actually are magnetized so that they stay together if you happen to cart them around in your purse or travel bag, and they're super easy to clean up.

3 Steps To Sculpted Cheekbones

I find most women are seriously scared of blush and bronzer placement. For fear they'll end up like our friend Miss Lindsey here, so they just forgo it all together. Sad face :(

So I'm hear to take away that fear and show you just how easy it is to get those "subtle" sculpted cheekbones you've always longed for in 3 simple steps...

{ NYX Matte Bronzer in Light, $8.99}

1. After your foundation is applied, start with your BRONZER. Take a slanted blush brush and matte bronzer (no shimmer or glitter please!), starting from the top of your ear swiping diagonally down towards the corner of the outside of your mouth stopping about center cheek. Light layers is key until you get the desired, realistic amount of sculpting.

2. Next take your BLUSH color and apply right above the bronzer swipe in one of two ways:

*a circular C motion if you're wanting fuller cherub looking cheeks, or

*in a short swiping motion towards ear if you want to slim the cheek area

{Too Faced Snow Bunny Bronzer, $30 (one of my all time fave highlighters!)}

3. Lastly, take a subtle shimmery highlighting powder and apply with a small fluffy brush right on the very top of the cheek color in a C shape around each eye up just to brow bone. Go easy on this product - you want just enough to bring the top of that cheekbone forward, which is what the illusion of shimmer does when placed in a specific area.

*Of course repeat all 3 steps on the opposite side.*

There you go - a trio of easy steps towards getting the cheekbones you've always wanted!

Look Who Won The Title Of "Most Beautiful Woman of 2013"

People Magazine came out with their choice for the MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN of 2013. And the honor goes to the much recently talked about 40 year old mom of two, actress, and wife to musician Chris Martin...

I'd like to see the criteria that the people over at People base this big ole decision on. I bet it's not easy with SO many good looking people in Hollywood. I wonder if there's a 1-20 list of bullet point criteria that these people must meet that looks something like:

1. Must look at least 5 years younger than their actual age,

2. Must be hot in the gossip columns at the current moment,

3. Must be married/dating someone else super famous or completely obscure (no in between)

...and so forth. Gwyn has been catching some flack from people saying she's a crazy health nut (to put it nicely) and that she's putting her kids health in danger, but I for one say, back off her. Who cares?? It's her kids, and yeh, maybe they're not getting the yummy Little Debbie cakes mine are, but she's not making them sleep in a closet and only letting them out to drink water and eat brown rice. I'm sure most parents, myself included, are just a wee bit jealous we can't make our kids eat lentils and kale!!

I must say, I do like to see a Hollywood mom who is 35+ win this title. I don't know G personally, so I can't judge her on inner beauty (wonder if People mag does??) but if I had to make my most beautiful woman choice of 2013 based on the "I wanna be her" factor, it would go to this lady, mom, entrepreneur, David's wife!

Here's a looksy at a few of the other faces featured in the magazine. I personally always like to see Halle Berry in there - she is crazy gorgeous the older she gets! Gives me hope for the aging process.

Everyone has that ONE aspect of their makeup routine that they'd probably just like to omit (or do omit) because, well...

they don't even know how to begin,
it's just plain confusing,
or it takes up too much time to apply.

It could be that you don't do eyeliner because you can't get the line straight or don't know how to create the beloved winged liner. Or you forgo getting that flawless skin because you couldn't figure out which foundation shade to buy at the drugstore and just bailed because it got overwhelming or you're afraid you'll look like you're wearing a makeup mask. Or you'd love Kim Kardashian-like eye lashes but when it comes to applying falsies, you'd rather stick with your stubby thin lashes than look like you've got caterpillars crawling off your lids!

7 Magical Makeup Tricks The Pros Use

Whenever I work with a client who tells me they'd like for me to erase their wrinkles, give them razor sharp cheekbones, or lift a droopy eyelid, I tell them I'll do what magic I can with my wands and fairy dust...aka, my makeup brush and products!

Here are 7 great makeup tips from the professional makeup artist scene everyone can implement in their daily routines

(No magical powers necessary!)

1. Instantly brighten your eyes by using a swipe of baby blue eye liner along the inner waterline (bottom lids). It tones down any redness caused by lack of slack or irritated eyes which makes you look tired and worn out....Rimmel London consultant David Scott Stephens

2. Eliminate mascara clumps or getting mascara on your lids by cutting an arch into a playing card then fit it against your lash line then apply your mascara as usual. Voila!! No annoying mascara dots on your skin or newly applied eye makeup...Celeb makeup artist Mally Roncal.

3. The secret to a natural flush is to use a lipstick rather than powder blush. Apply your foundation, then place 2 dots on each cheek and then use your fingers to blend them into the skin to create a subtle glow...Tom Peacheux. (I've used this trick many times here!)

4. Fight dull skin with a foundation or concealer that has light reflecting particles. They will hide your flaws and make your skin seem radiant, so look for any formula labeled illuminating, brightening, or luminous, which will help do the trick...Sonia Kashuk. * For an even more natural fresh faced look, slightly dampen your sponge beforehand and use a rolling motion to apply your foundation into the skin so the product doesn't just sit unnaturally on top of the skin from swiping.* (Here's one of my fave illuminating concealers here.)

5. To create a youthful eye lid crease when you've got puffy lids, use a neutral brown eyeliner and draw a soft line right where the eye socket crease should be and smudge into the skin...professional makeup artist Jillian Dempsey

6. Build skimpy eyebrows by filling them in with a combo of pencil and powder to get the most realistic look. Choose a pencil that matches your brow hairs and sketch along the top edge of your natural brow. Then pick a matte powder (brow or eye shadow, either will do) that is one shade darker and fill in just the bald spots within those brow hairs and brush thru with a spooley brush...Christina Aguilera's makeup artist, Kristofer Buckle.

7. Most flattering eye liner shape for fighting that awful gravity pull of droopy lids. Line that upper lash line with a creamy brown or black pencil, then use a pointed Qtip to smudge that line slightly up and out past the outer corners. Not So Boring Black And White

When I wear black or white clothing, I always feel the need to add a splash color with my makeup or with my accessories. It's just a weird thing I have.

There aren't many looks I won't try when it comes to experimenting with makeup. My latest attempt was at extremely bold and graphic colored shadow that took on a slightly futuristic look once completed...

I remember seeing a similar example of this type of pop of color on the eyes from an old Anna Sui 2012 fall collection on her models as shown below...

To get this look :

I prepped the eye area with a lid primer (Too Faced Shadow Insurance) to keep the shadow sharp and from bleeding,
drew my outline with a skinny tipped liner brush, here, and wet eye shadow (a blue shade from my big E.L.F. palette from Christmas),
filled in the middle,
lined my lower inner waterline with a white liner,
applied mascara on upper and lower lashes.

Of course what makes this look so bold was the fact I kept the outline sharp and didn't do any blending outside of the lines. But if this is a bit "out there in space" for you, you can still pull off the one bright shade but just blend the edges like crazy to make it soft and keep the color just below your crease to lash line.
