Last year was messy. There’s no denying it. That said, despite how things ended, the road to the Stanley Cup was a time full of excitement and camaraderie, one I still look back on fondly. These were my good times from the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs. Let’s move forward, keep it clean, and bring home a cup, shall we? Go Canucks Go!

On December 1st, 2011, Langara College launched their art and design auction, Art-fully Yours, to great success, attracting hundreds of visitors and just as many art donations. With many rising artists calling Langara home, 50% of the proceeds were given to the donating artists and the remainder reinvested into Langara’s creative programs.

Yesterday, on November 12th, 2011, a thousand bright minds gathered at UBC’s Chan Centre for TEDxVancouver 2011. With this year’s theme, “The Frontier”, the day focused on pushing boundaries through knowledge, innovation – and in typical TED fashion – ideas worth sharing.

Last Friday, I spent the day with Brittany Markle from Design Spectacle recreating classic photos from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Many thanks go out to The Cross Decor & Design for lending us their showroom. I don’t know how I’ve missed it all these years, but the place is filled top to bottom with vintage gems – including the shortest piano I’ve ever seen.

On October 5th, 2011, MacLure’s Cabs celebrated its centennial anniversary at CBC Vancouver’s studios. Over 600 of its employees and closest supporters joined for a lavish night of food, entertainment, and a hundred years worth of memories.

Dal Richards – a man nearly as veteran as MacLure’s and just as much a Vancouver fixture – had the crowd nodding through most of the evening.

MacLure’s fleet of cars were on display between three rooms – from the venerable Cadillac of yesteryear (shown above) to the Hybrid Toyota Prius models currently in use.

Local breakdance crew Now or Never ended the night to much acclaim with their gravity-defying performance.
