Mongoose meets Kudu

Just a bit of random character fun.

In the developmental stages of The Biggish Five, there was a talking skull which I thought was quite funny. Few other people found it as equally amusing, so I excluded it from the strip for a while.

I felt like having a bit of fun with it again.

Wile E Coyote and Daffy Duck keep an eye on me while I work

Created in 1948 by the legendary animator Chuck Jones, for Warner Bros., Wile E Coyote is one of my all-time favourite cartoon characters.

Especially because he performed his own stunts.

And this has to be, without question, Wile E’s funniest fail from Looney Tunes‘ Road Runner series. Take special note of his epic expression at 0:36:

They really don’t make them like that anymore.

Reverend Xola Skosana, from a church in Khayelitsha (Cape Town), attempted to attack the stigmas surrounding HIV and AIDS by preaching that Jesus Christ was HIV-positive.

“My responsibility as a pastor is to paint a picture of a God who cares for people and wants the best for them, not who judges them and is ashamed of them,”

That’s fine, reverend, but painting a picture of a god who humps his followers is probably not the smartest strategy.  The saviour of the world may have been known for touching a few lives, but he wasn’t known for bonking them.

That said, painting a picture of Muhammad is probably not the smartest strategy either. Especially if you like painting pictures.

There does, however, seem to be some sort of method to Xola’s madness:

Last month Skosana, who has lost two of his sisters to Aids, underwent an HIV test in front of his congregation, along with more than 100 young people from the township.

Education?

Hmm.

To whichever variation of Jesus’ historicity you do or don’t subscribe, AIDS has no role, and playing that particular card is like teaching that Muhammad was gay.  While relevant perhaps, it is misleading, opportunistic and bound to overwhelm the stigmas surrounding HIV and AIDS.

Education  fuelled by sensationalism is not education.

Apparently, the internet is upset.

A video apparently showing a young woman throwing live puppies into a river has sparked outrage across the Internet.

Apparently, PETA is upset too.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has offered a reward for information leading to the capture and arrest of the people behind what it calls a “heinous act” of cruelty.

CNN reckons that she is Croatian:

She appears to speak Croatian, while repeatedly picking live animals from a bucket and throwing the squealing puppies into the water. It’s not clear what eventually happened to them.

Meanwhile, this is the video:

But it isn’t just puppies that fly over water. Donkeys do too.

Update

Michael Bay, who directed Transformers,

[has] offered a $50,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a girl who threw puppies into a river, according to the Daily Mail.

According to Associated Press, the girl in the video might be Bosnian (and not Croatian), but uncertainty prevails.
