A rite of passage is a ritual event that marks a person’s progress from one status to another. It is a universal phenomenon which can show anthropologists what social hierarchies, values and beliefs are important in specific cultures. Rites of passage are often ceremonies surrounding events such as other milestones within puberty, coming of age, marriage and death.

This is Lee, my buddy from London, a day after he landed in Bali for the first time. We were walking around Kuta and found this bench in front of this shrimp restaurant. Not exactly a good photo, just look how the flash created a shadow outline around him, making him look like a paper doll cut out of some magazine. But I think his pose and expression there is proper business. You can tell dude’s still jet-lagged.

It was late. I was waiting for Lee to land. I was bored. Idea-less. Saw these markers lying on the coffee table. So there you go. Lame.
