Today is last working day of the year for me and it feels damn great. There was too much work and a little of us time. Lots of things have slipped in our lives and I shall take this little break to reflect and hopefully plan my new focus. Our priorities need to be re-aligned.

I kickstarted my year end break with overeating at Hawker which has just opened a day ago. It has the same owner as Mamak. Expectations are high but am also conscious of teething issues for a newly opened eatery.

I find myself gravitating towards Petersham in the recent weekends to scour new cafes. And this weekend, we land ourselves in Brighton The Corner which has been on my hit list for a while but just been distracted with others that have been popping up in this area. Now I am kicking myself for not visiting sooner! Perhaps I was influenced by what has been said about their slow service on Foursquare. It seems teething issues are settled and this place is running in a much faster pace.

John Smith Cafe has certainly opened in an odd spot in Waterloo. There isn't anything much around this area and this stretch is pretty unexciting. But I am sure the owners have done their research. On weekdays, it will probably cater the locals and because it serves amazing food and good coffee, punters will travel and queue for a weekend spot.

I was really excited to receive Anjum Anand's Quick and Easy Indian cookbook. She has a cooking series on Foxtel's Lifestyle Channel called Indian Food Made Easy and that is how I know of her. Her recipes has always been easy to follow, ingredients easy to find and not as fatty as a lot of Indian recipes that makes one feel totally heavy and bloaty after. If you are looking for authentic Indian recipes, then this cookbook is not the one for you. However, if you are looking for a cookbook that has influences of the Indian cuisine, then get this book.

CEO, Shigemi Kawahara flew to Sydney for the opening ceremony. We were entertained by a group of drummers and treated to check out different types of ramen. It tasted as good as the ones that I've had in Singapore. I was a very happy girl that evening.
