Magellan Roadmate 1412 GPS & Honeymoon

I was lucky enough to take the entire last week off for my honeymoon. We took our 6 day, 5 night trip to the central coast here in California. It was a much needed vacation and turned out to be fantastic.

Before we left, I ran to Costco and picked up a GPS to take along the way. This GPS unit was fantastic. It definitely took the stress out of navigating the unfamiliar roads and getting to our destinations quick and easy.

I normally don't do product reviews, but I thought this was fitting since I had such a great experience with this product. The unit I purchased was the Magellan Roadmate 1412. You can purchase the same model from Buy.com for just $229.98.

This model has a beautiful 4.3" widescreen touchscreen LCD and is loaded with 6+ million points of interest. We were easily able to find restaurants, gas stations, banks and our specific destinations using this GPS. It came with a windshield mount and power adapter. It was super easy to use right out of the box.

Google Chrome Web Browser - Part 1

Ok, so if you haven't already heard today... then where have you been. Google, or "The Google" as President Bush says, released Google Chrome today. It's pretty much a killer browser right off the get-go. However, in the 10 minutes I've been using it, I have found just a few drawbacks. In the interest of fairness, I think it will be good to cite both the good and bad (what I've noticed anyway).

In random alphabetical order:

Password protect and encrypt my prescious passwords with a SUPER password.
.... MISSING. Suck.

Each tab runs in its own process. Who would have thought?! Now if one tab crashes, guess what, nothing else will. That's fantastic.
.... INCLUDED. Killer.

Hidden status bar. Google, thank you so much for that extra 10 pixels of screen real estate. Not to mention making the browser just that much cleaner.
.... INCLUDED. Nice, very nice!

Transfer tabs between windows. You know, I've tried to do this with FireFox a while back (out of curiosity) but it never worked. Great feature to include. Sometimes you just want to rearrange the tabs in seperate windows.
.... INCLUDED. Sweet.

Toolbars & add-ons. Where, oh where, are my toolbars. I have to admit, I love the fact that I can find very useful developer tools for FireFox. I don't see an option for add-ons, but then again... its only the first release. However, I see that it includes the nice 'Inspect Element' tool on the context menu. But it still won't replace my FireBug (at the moment).
.... MISSING. Eh.

Quick! The browser is blazing fast and have a smaller memory footprint than FireFox or IE.
.... INCLUDED. You better believe it!

I have to say, I really like the Google Minimalistic approach on all of their products. There isnt much clutter and things are VERY easy to find. Good job on the first release! Give it a try!

http://www.google.com/chrome

I have been using Drupal for a few years now and feel that its time that I give back to the community monetarily-wise. I know its not much, but every membership counts.

Drupal Peel Away Ad Module - Free

Every see the Peel Away ads on your favorite blogs or websites? Well now you can have your own... easy and free... as long as you use Drupal 6. For those of you who are still using Drupal 5, you have 2 options: 1) Upgrade now (or soon) or 2) Live without the peel away ad.

Unfortunately, I'm still using Drupal 5 but plan on an upgrade REAL soon. I'll be adding a peel away ad, just for kicks. I have, however, used the PageEar module and it works great!

Demo here

What happend to Pingoat? It has been down for 'maintenance' for quite a while. It was one of my favorite tools.

Pingoat was a great website ping tool which sent update pings to MANY sites. I used it quite often and received great results.

This coupon is set to expire on September 7th <s>August 5th</s>! Order your VPS today. For those looking to host multiple websites, personal and/or reseller, this Liquid Web VPS Coupon will be your best bet. For just $40/month you can setup as many websites as you want.

Here are the details:

- 50 Gigabytes Raid Protected Storage
- 400 GB's Transfer
- 384MB RAM Guaranteed
- 512MB RAM Burstable
- 4 IP Addresses
Now, the key to get the best deal... if you put down the
$100 setup fee they will knock another $10 off the monthly bill. So
So if you plan on staying with this VPS for more than 10 months, it
will pay off big!

Exploring Kohana PHP Framework

I have been recently introduced to the Kohana PHP Framework. I can say, after just a bit of research and few hours of using the framework, that I can already realize the benefits of using such a package.

Kohana is a fork of the CodeIgniter PHP Framework. I do not have any experience with the CodeIgniter Framework, so unfortunately I cannot provide an efficient compare/contrast between the two.

As my development with the framework progresses, I will definitely post more information.
