December 1st is normally a very busy day for us- it marks the mid point of the 11-day  One of a Kind Show, design work is being completed for the next fall/winter collection, and it’s one of the busiest days of the year in production with Christmas orders coming in non-stop.  This year was no exception!

On December 1st, we moved into a new retail studio space in our building- one that we’ve been eyeing for years!  Ground floor in the Distillery District- and just in time for the Christmas Market.

First the floors (almost black!) were painted white and the walls were patched and given a fresh coat of paint.  Then came the move with all of our *very* heavy industrial equipment- moving downstairs in an out-of-service elevator in off hours to avoid the crowds of visitors!  We set up a temporary shop, then tore it all down January 1st to rebuild properly.  The progress:

This weekend is my birthday, and to celebrate, I’m doing nothing but designing all week long!  Fitting in time to develop new styles is something I cherish when production and paperwork seem to take over, and as frustrating as it can be at times, there is nothing I love more than long hours in my atelier creating the perfect dress!

Right now the look I’m creating for the Jessica Rose line is inspired by vintage hollywood glamour, and this still featuring Sophia Loren in the 1966 film Arabesque speaks for itself.

Just back in the studio after catching a matinée of this magical film – Midnight in Paris from Woody Allen, and am absolutely in love with it!  The visuals, story line, characters – it’s just perfect!  Je t’aime Paris. . .

Don’t you just love vintage style leopard print?  Here on Anne Bancroft as Mrs. Robinson in the 1967 film The Graduate.  Chic and seductive with just the right amount of kitsch!

I’ve only seen clips of the movie, but absolutely must find a copy of it to watch on a rainy evening with a bottle of wine and a bowl of popcorn.

Right now I’m developing my designs, shopping for fabrics, and creating a story for my Spring/Summer 2012 collection.  Starting this week, each week, I’ll be posting an image that is inspiring the collection!
