During the RailsConf conference a lot of people came by our booth, and there were a lot of Vim-users among them. It wasn’t a surprise for me as soon as I profess Vim religion as well. Inspired by all the visitors I decided to make a short demo to let everyone know that there’s no need to choose between these two alternatives – IDE and Vim. Just get the best of two worlds with IdeaVim plugin!

Today we celebrate the billionth build of RubyMine Ichii! In a binary system of course :)  So we decided it is a good sign to let the build 129.512 become the new RubyMine 5.4.2 version. Please welcome all the new fixes with RubyMotion 2.0 support for iOS apps among the major ones.

Use ‘Check for updates’ from RubyMine’s main menu to install the update without re-downloading. You can also download the new version from RubyMine web site.

We’re working on RubyMotion support for OS X apps as well, it is coming soon. Please stay tuned!

A number of issues were submitted as a feedback for RubyMine 5.4 and we’ve fixed the most annoying ones. For example, help on Mac OS X is now working well; you can see the location of a textmate bundle in the Settings; parameters are completed properly for RubyMotion apps; etc. Please take a look on the full list of fixes.

We did it! RubyMine 5.4 is officially available for download.

We share the community’s excitement about the upcoming Rails 4 final release. Cause of that we are ready to share the next lot of features only two months after the release of RubyMine 5. And first of all, we’ve made sure that RubyMine 5.4 supports the newest framework features.

The other key changes in RubyMine 5.4 include:

  • Debugging on device is now available for RubyMotion apps.
  • Emmet abbreviations are now supported for faster HTML & CSS coding.
  • CoffeeScript debugger can now be run for non-Rails apps with a help of Node.js.
  • REST Client plugin is now bundled in the IDE.
  • Nailgun support helps you be more efficient with JRuby.

In addition, RubyMine 5.4 brings a number of improvements to the new dark color scheme Darcula; extended support for remote interpreters and Ruby 2.0; and more. Read more about what’s new and download RubyMine 5.4.

Less then two months have passed since RubyMine 5 was released. Hopefully you have tried it and hopefully you like it. But the life goes on and we don’t want to lag behind, so we’ve decided to make the next RubyMine release shortly. Today we’re glad to announce the RubyMine Ichii EAP! By the way, ’Ichii’ is Japanese for yew (a kind of tree), in line with our codenaming tradition.

First of all we’re excited with Rails 4 final release coming soon. So RubyMine now supports the new framework features.

Web-developers might be glad to know Emmet abbreviations are now supported for faster HTML & CSS coding as well as CoffeeScript debugger can now be run for non-Rails apps with a help of Node.js.

Those who prefer JRuby now can be more efficient with Nailgun support.
