I’m glad to announce the next RubyMine version called “Nire” is accessible within Early Access Program. The codename comes from Japanese name of the elm tree. The release will be available in July but you can try all the new features in the first flight and we will tune them for the release based on your feedback.

Please welcome the new features!

  • Capistrano is now supported with syntax and error highlighting, code completion, structure view and tasks running directly from the IDE.
  • You can manage Ruby versions using pik and rbenv. RubyMine automatically detects Ruby interpreters and configures SDK’s accordingly.
  • We’ve got more then 50 votes for Slim support request. So please try the cutting-edge template language with a syntax highlighting in RubyMine.
  • Work on your stylesheets with Sass support including code insight and
    formatting.

We were fixing, and testing, and fixing all week long to make 4.0.3 version stable. We have also improved SCSS/LESS support with smart “Go to declaration” navigation from your html to stylesheets.  So today we’re ready to announce the release of RubyMine 4.0.3.

Please use “Check for Updates…” from RubyMine to install the update without re-downloading. Or download the new version from our site. You can also take a look at the full list of bug fixes.

April has already come and we’re preparing and looking forward for RailsConf 2012. The team is working actively on the next major version. However we’ve got a bunch of bugfixes for 4.0 including migrations editing performance improvements. RubyMine 4.0.3 is based on the last platform version so that Subversion (SVN) 1.7 is also supported in RubyMine now. UI for Git branches was reworked as well.

So please download RubyMine 4.0.3 Release Candidate, check out the release notes, and let us know if anything goes wrong.

We did it! Welcome the new major release – RubyMine 4 - significantly sped up,
with a brand new UI, improved CoffeeScript and SCSS/LESS editors and more.

You might know we mainly focused on the performance for the release. We completely redesigned the architecture and actually improved responsiveness all over the IDE.

At the same time you will hopefully enjoy the many requested features we added in RubyMine 4, as well as its enhanced usability and UI.

The major release changes are the following:

  • Significantly sped-up code indexing and analysis (we’ve got impressive benchmark results)
  • New, streamlined UI for all supported platforms: Windows, Mac OS and Linux
  • Dozens of new Ruby code inspections, Inline method and Unwrap refactorings, new search options and improved Structure and Hierarchy views
  • Rails framework support up to version 3.2 and integration with Phusion Passenger as a  server for running/debugging
  • Сode insight, formatting, compilation and launching via Node.js for CoffeeScript
  • Formatting for SCSS/LESS languages
  • Testing and debugging improvements with support for Minitest 2.10 and RSpec 2.8
  • Git revisions graph and other VCS support enhancements

Note that RubyMine 4.0 is a free update for everyone who purchased their RubyMine license after Feb 15, 2011. And as usual, a 30-day trial is available if you want to try RubyMine as your new Ruby on Rails IDE.
