You have been warm and welcoming to everyone, truly concerned with the well-being of all the jewish members of the community, and you (and thus chabad) have created a sense of Jewish community, which here at the med school simply doesn't exist otherwise. I know that if I am ever without a home on a holiday, your door is open and I will be welcomed as is - no questions asked, no pressure. That means a lot to me, and I sincerely thank you for it.

JGrads Helps Connect Students
By Elizabeth Slonim Macanufo, March 21, 2008
While attending Dartmouth College, Michele Nudelman served as Vice President of programming for Hillel and helped create the Chabad on Campus chapter. After graduating from Dartmouth, she entered Washington University to receive a joint law and business school degree.
Nudelman, along with other law school students, attended Washington University Chabad on a weekly basis, but she noticed the lack of programming specifically for graduate students. Taking initiative to remedy the situation, she and Rabbi Hershey Novack, who directs Washington University's Chabad on Campus, formed JGrads.
Now in its third year, the organization spread throughout graduate school campuses in St. Louis and offers graduate students and their young-adult peers specific Jewish programming distinct from those of undergraduate students. According to their mission, JGrads aims to successfully meet this need by providing social, educational, and spiritual opportunities to develop a sense of community. Read more…

Dear Grads,

The JGrads board held its big planning meeting last week. About 12 members participated in the lively discussion, which generated the following events, a revised mission statement (see below). 2008 also marks the 60^th anniversary of the founding of Israel, there was discussion about the best way to mark this event. Chabad also will begin a monthly Shabbat Dinner series for grads and young adults, likely the first Friday evening of each month (March 7, April 4, May 2).

By now you have certainly heard about these amazing, free israel trips. If you want to go this summer, you must register on (or just after) February 12, 2008. These dates are participant dependant so sign up early with your friends!

There are three locations where you can pick up a free Menorah and candle kit, sponsored by Chabad.

Drop by the Chabad center @ 7018 Forsyth (which is just west of Big Bend), Menorahs kits are located in the front room 24/6.
Menorahs kits are also available in the common area of WU’s Law School (A-B Hall). Thank you to Natalie Benhamou and the JLS.
Menorahs kits are also located at WU’s Medical School (at the security desk at the Olin Res. Hall). Thank you to Maya Winoker.

Contemporary Jewish Law

Join Rabbi Hershey Novack for an exploration of Jewish law as it relates to contemporary issues of the day. This class draws on Talmudic law and contrasts it with modern law. No Hebrew or Jewish knowledge required! Topic for this class: Intellectual Property Rights in Jewish Law.

Time is running out to register for a free Taglit-birthright israel trip for St. Louis grad students and young adults. If you are 21-26 (plus) years old, Jewish, and have never visited Israel with an educational youth group you are eligible! Rosh Hashana Graduate Student Dinner

Join grad students and recent graduates for a festive meal celebrating the beginning of the Jewish New Year… By popular request, we will be hosting a brief Rosh Hashana evening service at 7:15 at the same location. This will be a traditional service with much English translations and user-friendly books. This service is a "stand alone" event, you do not need to come to services to attend the dinner, and vice versa.
