Έχουμε μιλήσει αρκετές φορές στα meetups για τη σημασία που έχουν τα συνέδρια στο για εμάς τους developers. Στα συνέδρια μπορούμε να ακούσουμε για καινούριες τεχνολογίες από ανθρώπους που τις έχουν χρησιμοποιήσει στην πρώτη γραμμή. Μπορούμε να μάθουμε πώς άλλοι λύνουν προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζουμε και εμείς με διαφορετικούς τρόπους. Μπορούμε να κάνουμε hands-on workshops και training sessions. Τέλος, μπορούμε να βρεθουμε εκ του σύνεγγυς με συναδέλφους και να τα πούμε.

In our previous meetup we had an open discussion about code reviews. The goal was not to mention patterns, anti-patterns or guidelines but rather to discuss the everyday life of reviewing and how engineers of all levels see the process from both sides, as authors and as reviewers. It was a very interesting session and a lot of opinions were heard. This post is a summary of that discussion.

This Thursday, we had another JHUG virtual meetup. It was the fifth we had during the lockdown and we are very confortable with the format, but we hope to meet and talk face to face very soon. This time around 60 members participated and watched the sessions. As always it was held on google meetup and the details and the link were published on our slack channel.

This Thursday 11/03 we had the first virtual meetup of 2021. We were happy to meet once again, although virtually from our homes, and discuss interesting topics about java. The covid-19 lockdown has been going on for almost a year and it will continue for some more months for sure. However JHUG is active and we keep having meetups and we would like to thank our members for their patience and eagerness to participate in the events.

The year is coming to end and what a better way to celebrate than a meetup with a lot of java. Indeed we scheduled our last meetup for 2020 on the 29th of December and we really enjoyed it.

The covid-19 pandemic has changed the way we work. Where feasible every activity has transferred online and this involves work from home (WFH), telecommuting, work from anywhere (WFA), remote working and smart working. Some countries, like Italy, have gone one step further and are talking about the phenomenon of south working, people are leaving the big cities and are moving to the provinces where life is better and cheaper but they keep their jobs and continue to work remotely.

Την περασμένη Δευτέρα κάναμε τη δεύτερη μας εκδήλωση για φέτος που ήταν και το πρώτο meetup εφόσον η πρώτη εκδήλωση ένα workshop για το quarkus.

Το περασμένο Σάββατο έγινε το πρώτο meetup του JHUG για τη νέα σεζόν και ήταν διαφορετικό από τα προηγούμενα. Ας πάρουμε όμως τα πράγματα από την αρχή.

Τώρα που ετοιμαζόμαστε για τη νέα σεζόν, είναι μια καλή στιγμή για να δούμε τι έγινε την περασμένη σεζόν και να βγάλουμε χρήσιμα συμπεράσματα για τη συνέχεια.

Java is famous for the uptime of applications and our meetup certainly meets the challenge. The October meetup was held last Tuesday and it was very interesting.

Το Java Hellenic User group ηταν από τις πρωτες ομάδες που εφτιαξε καναλι με βιντεο και αρχισε να καταγραφει σε βιντεο ολες τις ομιλιες. Ετσι εχουμε μια μεγαλη συλλογη από πολλες παρουσιασεις διαθεσιμες ανα πασα στιγμή για οποιον ενδιαφερεται να μαθει τι έγινε στις προηγουμενες συναντήσεις μας.

It was a rainy and windy day (September 27th 2018) when JHUG started the meetups for the new season 2018/2019. We, the organizers of JHUG, were a bit anxious whether people will attend. It was the first meetup and the weather was bad. However it was an excellent start. Java apps may suffer sometimes from slow booting but Java meetups do not have such problems. We estimated that about 100 people, most of them newcomers, attended the meetup. This is very encouraging and sets a high bar we will try to cross.

The first JHUG meetup for 2018 was held at the premises of Advantage FSE. Ms Peggy Theodorou-Zoumi on behalf of Advantage FSE, welcomed the members of JHUG at their premises for yet another more time as they are fond supporters of our group and they too believe that people are the most important value in our industry.

Nowadays, many developers are starting discussing and using Hadoop framework to solve different problems in big data and Hadoop space. Many tools and practices, are existing and is very difficult for a developer to choose the appropriate tool/approach for his project. To FOSSCOMM 2013 διοργανώνεται στο Χαροκόπειο Πανεπιστήμιο από το Tμήμα Πληροφορικής και Τηλεματικής και με την υποστήριξη της Εταιρείας Ελεύθερου Λογισμικού / Λογισμικού Ανοιχτού Κώδικα.
