As we bloggers know, to survive in this craft you have to absolutely love what you’re doing. Without that burning passion, blogging will become just another job.

Hey, if I wanted a job I would have gotten a job.

Having worked behind the scenes for several weeks on my latest project, I am now ready to launch. So without further delay, I announce to you: Jimi Jones Visuals.

The site was built to allow me to creatively express myself through the art of photography, specifically High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography. I will cover HDR as well as traditional digital photography techniques and hope that those of you who have an interest in this art form, will join me for the journey.

While some are happy with taking pictures, I like to create art. Nothing at all wrong with the former, but I definitely live in the camp of the latter. So, swing by when time allows and keep me a little company.

Hope to see you there!

As for this site, I will continue to post here several times weekly, although I’ve been slowed a bit of late. But it’s all good and we’ll be back to a regular schedule very soon.

A huge THANKS to you all for your continued support.

Managing your finances is extremely important for financial success. Improper management can lead to debt and other money problems. If you find yourself struggling to be disciplined when it comes to finances, here are some tips that can help you stay on track and complete your financial goals.

Follow a Budget: No matter how much money you have, everyone should follow a budget. A budget is the best way to get out of debt, stay out of debt, and maximise every dollar. Following a budget involves setting up spending limits in spending categories and staying within those limits. For example, if you set a limit of $200 a month on entertainment, don’t spend more than $200 a month on things like going to the movies, eating out, attending concerts, etc. This will help you control your finances and ensure your money is going where it should be.

Pay yourself First: Saving money is extremely important, but it is hard to do when you spend all your money elsewhere. Paying yourself first forces you to save. Take out the money you want to save as soon as you get your check and before you spend another dime. Make it a category in your budget.

Spend Less than you Earn: If you spend more money than you earn, you will go into debt. If you spend less than you earn, you will save money. It’s a simple definition that isn’t as difficult as you think. Fortunately, a strong budget will make this much simpler. Beware of sales and coupons. Sometimes people think it’s okay to spend more if it’s a good deal. Spending more on things you don’t need is wasting money no matter how good the deal is.

Pay Off and Avoid Consumer Debt: Consumer debt includes debt such as credit cards, auto loans, and personal loans. This is the worst kind of debt because it’s easy to get and the interest rates are so high. Pay it off as soon as possible and avoid accumulating new debt. Focus your ‘pay yourself first’ savings on paying off debt until it’s gone. Student loans aren’t considered consumer debt, but it’s important to pay all other loans off quickly as well.

Build an Emergency Fund: Have you ever been stuck with an emergency expense that broke the the bank? Having an emergency fund will make such problems much less stressful because it gives you the extra cash you need in these situations. Emergencies include losing a job, health emergency expenses, a broken down vehicle, etc. Save at least 6 months worth of living expenses in a savings account to cover emergency expenses.

Define your Financial Goals: If you have no financial goals, the money you save has no purpose. This will make it tempting to use that cash for things that won’t help your financial future. Set long term and short term financial goals such as paying off debt, saving an emergency fund, buying a house, saving for retirement, saving for vacations, etc. Be sure to prioritise your goals as well.

Prepare for Retirement: Do not depend on social security for retirement. Relying on a pension can be tricky, too. Starting to save early will help better prepare you for retirement. These accounts give you tax advantages to allow you to invest more and increase your future available funds.

Get Well-Insured: Insurance can seem like an unnecessary expense, but it’s very important. If you drive a vehicle, you are required by state law to get a minimum amount of liability coverage. Going without health insurance could result in huge bills if the unfortunate happened and you ended up in the hospital. Life insurance is important to make dealing with your estate and supporting those you leave behind more manageable.

Maintain Good Financial Records: Follow a budget and track your spending. Good financial records will make life easier when it comes to filing taxes. It also helps to ensure your staying on track with your budget and financial goals.

Don’t Let your Finances Consume your Life: Proper financial management is important, but don’t let it stress you out and consume your life. Ease into better financial decisions and enjoy the benefits you will receive from better financial management.

This has been a fun project but the time has arrived to close this out and turn my attention to a new, soon to be announced endeavor. One I’ve been looking forward to diving deeper into for some time.

I thank each and every one of you who have taken your time to come by and read these posts, and I hope you’ve gotten something positive from the works featured here. There are so many bloggers and entrepreneurs working hard in this expanse of inner space known as the internet, and I have developed a great appreciation for what they do.

What lies ahead for this blog?

I will continue to post on the topics of personal development and productivity, as well as share some of what goes on with my other business ventures. There is a lot going on in my world these days and I’m loving it.

So with that, let’s dive into this week’s round-up of posts.

This title caught my eye, which goes to show the power of a good post title. But beyond that, this is an interesting read.

Check it out.

This week’s podcast (19:36) is presented by my man Sid Savara at BlogCastFM and features David Walsh. They are discussing the shortest path to making money online, product creation. Grab a drink and 20 minutes for this one, I think you’ll enjoy it.

Access the podcast here.

By the way, I’ve mentioned this before but it’s worth repeating. If you are sleeping on the free education at BlogcastFM you’d best wake up. There is an absolute ton of awesome interviews there so check it out. There is also a Premium Version for those who’d like to take their blogging business to the next level.

To wrap up, I have a video (17:59) featuring Majora Carter who tells us 3 stories of local eco-entrepreneurship. This is a really refreshing and heartwarming look at problem solving.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and the series in general, friends.

This is the 25th edition of the Sunday Seven Weekly, a project I’ve seen as an opportunity to share some of the fine work I come across in my internet travels, and to recognize many of the creators of that work.

Before hitting the publish button on that first edition I wrote down a goal to evaluate this series in 6 months. Having reached that milestone, I have made my evaluation and taken into consideration many factors, not the least of which is time.

For good, bad or indifference, I hereby announce that next week’s edition will be the final in this series of roundups. I won’t bore you with the many things that went into this decision, but let me simply say that I am rolling out a new project very shortly and timing could not be better.

While I have completely enjoyed producing this series and interacting with the many people who are a part of it, I am more than certain that my new project will be at least as much fun. You can look for an announcement on that in the very near future.

So, without further delay let’s move on to this week’s highlighted stops.

LinkedIn has grown big time, and if you’re not cultivating a profile there you’re falling behind. They were at the 85 million member mark in October 2010 and have now added 15 million more? That’s awesome growth and a unlimited potential for opportunities and exposure.

Lastly, we all know how tough it is to make it in business on or off line. It takes courage and a certain daring spirit. But in today’s world we have technology to help us along, we simply need to be bold enough to want to succeed.

As you’ll see in this video (14:34) from my favorite vault, TED.com, stuntman Steve Truglia takes these bold and couragous moves for a living. This is a pretty facinating and entertaining piece that I thought you’d enjoy.

If you work from home you’re likely to hear something like “I wish I could work from home, it would be so nice” or words to that effect from others. But many don’t realize the challenges of working from home, thinking it’s an easy thing to pull off and that it’s all fun.

On the surface most simply see the benefit of not having to commute or get dressed into work attire daily. What’s often not considered is the level of discipline and dedication required to work from home and actually get things done.

You see, the home is loaded with all of your creature comforts and things that are not conducive to actually working. It’s loaded with distractions like that HDTV and your favorite recliner, pool table, awesome sound system, all of which are designed for comfort and relaxation.

So how do you avoid being drawn into these areas and spending time doing things other than being productively working?

Let’s go through the list below.

Establish a Dedicated Work Area

You need a personal workspace, designed for just that, working. If there is a room available to make as your office, do it. Convert a bedroom or basement storage area if you must, but without a dedicated workspace the battle is pretty much already lost.

When you have a home office two things happen right away.

1. You have established that you are serious about working.

2. You have escaped most of the distractions of working from home.

Now don’t turn around and load the workspace with an HDTV and audio system unless you know you have the discipline to leave them off during peak working hours.

Establish Regular Working Hours

It is very important to establish a set of hours that you are regularly working. It’s called working from home, not working when you feel like it. The only thing that has really changed is the location. Whether working for an employer or yourself, take your business matters serious and work a regular schedule.

Inform Your Family and Friends

When you work for XYZ Company your family and friends know your schedule. They have a good idea of when you are not available for socializing and general chit-chat. The same applies when working from home. It’s one of the main reasons for establishing regular work hours, the other being that you want to actually get things done, right?

If you fail to do this the perception will be that you work totally at your leisure, therefore they can call upon you anytime.

Forget That Working in PJs Crap!

You hear a lot of work-from-homers talk about working in their PJs or, well let’s stick with the PJs. Forget about that. Get dressed and get serious.

Psychologically speaking, I feel more like work if I have some clothes on; otherwise my mind is confused thinking it may be time to stretch out again.

Your results may vary!

Create Slots of Time for Phone Activity

When others know that you work from home it is pretty much expected that you can talk on the phone anytime, and it’s true. However, it may not be wise to do so if you have something you really need to concentrate on and move closer to completion.

Hey, don’t tell my friends, shhh!

I don’t take calls during certain times, and no I won’t disclose what those times are. Rather, concentrate on your work for several hours, then catch up on a few calls, and then get back to your project.

Seriously, it’s best to avoid continual interruptions all throughout the day. That’s what they do in the corporate environment, which is one reason you want to work from home.

Avoid the Internet

If what you are working on does not require you to be logged onto the internet then don’t log onto the internet, it’s a distraction. One of those sites like CNN or MSNBC will have an auto-reload and drag your eyes right up to the page headline. 15 or 20 minutes later you’ll return to work (maybe). See what I mean?

On the other hand, if what you are working on requires you to be online open only what is related to your project, nothing more.

Music

Find your zone on this one. What I mean by that is some of you are more productive with music playing while others find it a distraction. Personally, I’m all over the place on this one, sometimes it’s good while other times I crank out more work in silence. Decide what’s best for you and stick with it.

Love Thy Neighbor

Inevitably your neighbors will find out that you work from home and will find their way to your door. Greet them nicely; give them the butter or coffee that they always seem to be out of, but kindly mention that you’re “in the middle of a hot project with a deadline approaching”. This sends them on their way quickly and causes them to think about whether to ring the bell or go to the store next time.

I love my neighbors (most of them anyhow) but I’m seriously building something special and need to stay on-track. I’m sure you love your neighbors as well.

Huh? Oh yeah, we all have one of those types. Love em anyhow, just keep them at bay.

Be Sure to Take Regular Breaks

Much like in the corporate office, you should take some regular breaks throughout the day. Just don’t take them when the neighbor comes by.

I like to work for about 2 or 3 hours then take a 20 to 30 minute break. You should find your comfort zone on this. Just keep in mind that it is really important to get up and stretch, move around, even get out of the office and come back after a break.

It’s sort of like recharging the batteries.

Don’t Eat in Your Workspace

Getting the proper nourishment during the day is important, but so is getting away from that project you’re working on. You may be surprised at how refreshing and energizing it is to completely leave the work environment, have a real lunch (or dinner) break and return fired up and ready to roll for a few more hours.

Stay Disciplined

Once you’ve established a regular routine for working from home remain true to what you are doing. It becomes a habit and increases your discipline for not only this, but other things in life as well.

When you start breaking your routine and making exceptions for this and that it begins to work against you after a period of time. The exceptions will become the new habit instead of the tightly focused routine you’ve worked so hard to create.

Conclusion

I didn’t mention it above but we all know that none of this will work on any given day. Hey, life happens right? Emergencies occur and what have you. But for the majority of the time, stay in-charge.

Working from home can be a really wonderful thing to do, but you have to actually produce and get things done. Otherwise it becomes frustrating because you can feel that you haven’t made the progress that you know you should have.

Remember, you chose to work from home so you must control the environment. If you can master this, you’ll be very productive as you move that much closer to creating the lifestyle you seek.

So how about you, how would or are you staying productive in your work at home? Share a few thoughts in the comments below.

This site has pretty much anything you may have in mind. There is a great search feature and a rating system as well.

Now I must warn you, use a time management tool to avoid getting lost in space.

“You can do anything if you have enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the yeast that makes your hopes rise to the stars. With it, there is accomplishment. Without it there are only alibis.”
- Henry Ford -

Enthusiasm is defined as a great excitement for a particular interest, subject or cause. In our personal worlds, it’s about the attitude, feeling enthusiastic about our chances for success and happiness. Without this, only a long hard struggle awaits.

Personally, I think enthusiasm generates energy and drive, a thirst to pursue a particular passion and a strong willingness to go beyond the normal boundaries of possibility. It’s what causes one to work a few hours more each day or get up a little earlier.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could create enthusiasm?

If you answered yes there is good news, you actually can.

Check out the 7 suggestions below, grab a few and go for the gusto.

Follow Your Passion

One sure-fire way to create enthusiasm is to follow your passion. This simply makes everything so much more pleasurable. When you can turn your passion into your life’s work, you will have created a powerful source for driving yourself to success.

Expand Your Knowledge

Learn all that you possibly can and become an authority in your chosen profession. Couple this with your passion and there will be no shortage of excitement in your life. This creates a totally fun atmosphere, one where your enthusiasm drives you to succeed.

Stay Positive

It is awfully tough to be excited about anything with a negative outlook on life or any particular undertaking. Always strive to remain positive about your opportunities, even in the face of failure. Yes, failure can provide some positive lessons for us and should not be underestimated.

Maintaining a positive outlook becomes a habit and eventually, second nature. I can personally attest to this, having giving up on any negativity years ago. I just won’t allow it to steal away my visions of creating the lifestyle I have chosen, and nor should you.

For enthusiasm to thrive within you, a positive outlook is a must.

Allow Your Creativity to Flourish

The mind is one of the most creative resources we possess, yet it is often underutilized by focusing on things that are irrelevant to our most important aspects of life. We’ve all been guilty of this at some point, but continually thinking of ways to be creative can generate a level of enthusiasm for our ideas. The ideas create enthusiasm and the enthusiasm creates ideas. What a great 2-way cycle.

Continually look for ways to improve upon a process or product and your results may be quite surprising.

Create a Plan

Having a well thought out plan to follow provides a certain level of excitement to get things done. As the plan begins to take shape and you can see how all of the pieces fit together, you’ll be driven to work on this at every available opportunity. It’s simply an energizing experience.

Remain Patient and in Control

A lack of patience can rob you of your enthusiasm and allow self-doubt to creep into the picture. Don’t go there!

We all know that creating anything in life, be it a new habit, project or profession requires time. The important thing to keep in mind is that you are in control as long as you allow yourself to be. When things go awry, learn from the experience, stay positive and above all, remain in control of your inner being.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson –

Be Grateful

We all have many things to be grateful for. The ability to get out of bed each day comes to mind, although many complain about it.

Thinking of the many abilities we possess and the opportunities to be creative should make us all enthusiastic about life and the many possibilities it holds. Remember, life is not a spectator sport. Find that which excites you and drives you to be all that you can be.

Thinking of all that life has provided thus far, and the possibilities that the future holds, makes me a very grateful person. Perhaps I’m a positive and enthusiastic person by nature, or I worked on this somewhere along the way, not sure which. I just know that expressing my gratitude for what life has provided continues to drive me toward an even brighter tomorrow.

Conclusion

Within each of us there lies the ability to create a life of excitement and happiness. The road will be bumpy at times but we are resilient beings who can inspire ourselves to do great things. This usually comes down to the development of a set of habits. Habits that we can create that assist us in living life to the fullest.

Are you enthusiastic about what you are doing in life?

Stay Productive!

It’s been an interesting Winter, to say the least, but in this part of the world where the season’s change about every 100 days, there is always something fresh and inviting to look forward to.

The blogosphere is similar, continual changes and something to look forward to always.

Let’s move on to some of the sites I have selected for this week’s Sunday Seven edition. I spent most of the week working behind the scenes and therefore made fewer rounds than normal. Nonetheless, our hard working fellow bloggers are always creating something of interest for us to read.

It’s the energy of the internet that drives us all, and one of the chief reasons we all love what we do. For without this passion, it would be a tough road living a life online.

First up we have another twenty-something blogger by the name of Monique Johnson.

She’s no ordinary twenty-something, this lady has that get-up-and go spirit. I like that.

I reached into her archives and pulled out this nice post, which delivers a dead-on message.

Facing the facts of life, you may have come to the conclusion that things could have been better, much better than they are today.

This is what experience and wisdom teaches us over the years. Suddenly, we reflect upon where we’ve been and what we’ve accomplished in life and feel somewhat unfulfilled. We wish we had done better with our concept of self realization.

But no matter the age or where you are in life, it’s never too late (or too early) to find fulfillment. Have some moments of self-reflection, which are good for identifying opportunities to draw on your experiences and create a better tomorrow.

Fulfillment comes in many forms, purpose, religion, educational achievements and many more. This post addresses our life’s work. A career we can feel good about and in fact, be proud of.

If you’ve not found that fulfillment in your life as yet, consider some of the suggestions listed below.

1. Get in the proper mindset.

You know, we can always find things that are wrong with ourselves and how this affects our life, but what about what’s right with us? Hey, your life is not a total mess, regardless of what you may think or have been told.

Everyone is good at something and no one is good at everything. Reflect upon the things you have done well in life and how that made you feel. This helps create a positive attitude and the proper mindset for finding that which brings you the most fulfillment.

Develop a deep appreciation for your accomplishments and remain positive about your future. When you are positive, it affects everyone around you in the same manner.

2. Create a new vision.

What will you do with the rest of your life and what legacy will you create?

We all would love to leave a positive mark on the world and have our contributions appreciated by others. The time for planning is right now so you can begin the process in the days ahead. This is not something to be put off into the future, this IS the future.

Create a vision of you doing exactly what you would like to do on a daily basis, plan it out and take the proper actions to make it happen. These thought should bring you a level of excitement, just think of the possibilities.

3. Tap into your passion.

What is it that you absolutely love to do?

Identify this and develop a plan to make it your life’s work. Place a high priority on this because when you can work your passion it seldom seems like work at all. The passion itself may not even be new, but the success we finally reach changes everything.

Create your list of things where you have a particularly good skill level. Things that make you want to do them all of the time. What’s there that you could see yourself doing for the rest of your life?

4. Go all in.

You must fully engage in this new direction and purpose, trusting your abilities to succeed while making a full commitment. This is easy to do when it comes from the heart and you truly want to succeed. Let nothing or no one alter your course, you’re on a mission now.

5. Think long-term.

As always, keep patience in your life. What you are creating may not happen overnight, which is pretty much standard. Putting forth a considerable effort is what it usually takes to reach most life-changing goals, but once this is accomplished the rewards are well worth the journey.

I believe this is one of the reasons so many never truly get to where they want to be, we are somewhat impatient by nature.

6. Never give up.

“Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail”. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Be realistic about your chances of mastering that which you are most passionate about, it will happen, but not without challenges. It is these challenges that turn back many, but you will persevere. Yes, your persistence will be tested and you must not be deterred in any way.

Simply stay the course, do what you have to do to advance your cause and in the end, you will find the fulfillment you seek.

Have you found your life’s work?

Stay Productive!

This being the first Sunday in March of 2011, it has me wondering how people are progressing with this year’s goals. It was not so long ago that we resolved to make this year different than those in the past and the first quarter is closing out soon. I feel a blog post coming on.

On that note, let’s get right to this week’s roundup.
