Are non-cash rewards better for employee recognition?

Organisations are always looking for the new ‘tricks of the trade’ to keep their valued employees happy. We can all become disengaged from our work if we don’t feel appreciated and recognised. At JMP we’ve got the perfect solution.

Non-cash rewards are a great way to keep that smile on your employee’s faces. Some organisations use cash as the reward for incentive initiatives, but these programs usually end up getting confused with compensation, creating a less effective and less flexible reward system.

Our experience has shown us that when an employee is given a cash reward, the choice of their gift was often ‘unmemorable’, something they need rather then something they want, such as paying the bills or keeping up with the rent. But when people are rewarded, they remember the experience which is a lasting reminder of success and creates a lasting bond between employer and employee.

At JMP we’ve been providing organisations with the opportunity to keep their work force in high spirits by offering them aspirational gifts that they want, providing a link to your organisation that they will never forget.

What do we offer?

Our product selection team have been very busy recently, and we’d like to share with you some of the new ranges we now have, many of which are as a result of the feedback from both our clients and recipients.

We have a vast range of quality items for the home, and our kitchenware items come from a range of recognisable manufacturers including:

Our range of fashion watches is extensive, from classic watches such as:

To chic watches from such designers as:

Our Jewellery comes from extraordinary craftsmen across the globe, including

At JMP we pride ourselves on an array of choice, and this is no different with our electrical goods, and we offer a broad variety of the finest brands the world has to offer, including:

And if you wanted something a little different then our fine array of gifts, why not try an ‘Experience Day’ you’ll never forget! We’ve teamed up with Red Letter Days to offer you an array of experiences that’ll stick with you forever, including:

•	Tandem Sky Diving for Four

It was a warm sunny early May evening in London, finally the work meetings were over and the real reason for Terryberry’s visit was here: USA v UK bowling competition!

That special relationship so beloved of Regan and Thatcher, continued by Bush and Blair… reenergised by Byam and Rebuck.

A double header of two bowling matches (4 people per team) – USA represented by 2 Yanks, an Aussie and a loan of an English Rose and representing the UK – 2 young guns and a couple of old & rusty hands.

Round One: Competition was stiff and no doubt at the outset the USA, with the Andrew Makl spin, was an awesome shock to team UK. Half way through the first game team UK shook themselves out of the initial lull.

Magic Michelle galvanised the team and led the way with a steady points gain. The USA were steadily ahead but beginning to slip as the balls kept slipping into the Gullies..

A genuine refocus by Craig helped to start the fight back. With Byam rocking backwards but Makl hitting some awesome strikes team USA’s lead was slipping.

Round one ended with a very close call with the UK scraping a fair and even match and just about making that win with Gemma showing some great moves on the lanes and a real cheerleader’s celebration as she hit the magic STRIKE!

Round Two: was a real shock to team USA, with the UK really taking advantage of the time change. Big John was steady and even in his approach and a triple strike helped to secure a very strong win over the USA with the points ending up 884 To 678.

The UK was naturally polite in the win but the score really showed that inexperience can win the day.

As Winston Churchill once said ‘We can beat them on the beaches, we can beat them in the air’… but I never thought we could beat them at bowling….

At JMP we’ve been talking about….

Engaging for Success, a report to Government by David Macleod and Nita Clarke

It’s only January and already the Employee Engagement industry has seen the most influential report of recent years released.

David Macleod and Nita Clarke, commissioned by the Department for Business, have examined employee engagement and the potential benefit for an organisation.

Having spent from October 2008 to May 2009 interviewing leaders, practitioners and experts across the country, within all sectors of the economy, the report concluded that employee engagement is unquestionably intrinsic to the overall success of an organisation. Not only this but if harnessed correctly, with support from the government, it can lead to increased workplace performance and employee well-being, for the considerable benefit of the UK economy.

We believe this report will not only shape the current understanding of employee engagement, but lead the UK workplace into a new generation of competitive edge through its greatest asset, its workforce.

To find out more about Employee Engagement contact us today.

You can download a PDF copy of the Macleod and Clarke Report here.

An On-line campaign conducted alongside the report asked employers what would help them engage their employees and why they should do it. This campaign attracted over 300 responses. We, at JMP are really excited to read such positive and thought provoking comments regarding the power of employee engagement.

We thought these two comments really summed up the heart of why organisations should engage their employees;

“Engagement matters because people matter – they are your only competitive edge. It is people, not machines that will make the difference and drive the business.”

“Employee engagement is when the business values the employee and the employee values the business.”

Our Managing Director Craig Rebuck joined director Mike Byam of American recognition company, TerryBerry to discuss each of their experiences regarding reward and motivation in Europe and America, as well as supporting companies to implement recognition programmes across a global scale.

This webinar was the first of its kind for us and we’re very proud to put our name to it.

In today’s business world organisations are more globally connected than ever before. So when faced with a company that spans across different cultures how do you implement an effective, purposeful reward and recognition programme that both engages and motivates employees while not compromising the global message through the necessity of translation?

During the seminar Craig and Mike discussed their personal experiences as well as their understanding of the interpretation of reward and motivation within Europe and the USA. The main areas examined were;

    * Workforce stability, with all employees working cohesively towards one common goal
* A motivated, productive workforce
* Increased staff retention
* Reduced recruitment and training costs
* Reduced absenteeism
* Greater employee buy-in and brand identification

If you were able to listen to the webinar we would really like to hear your comments and any experiences you may have about global strategies. If you missed it, we will be posting a link to an archive section for you to listen to at a more convenient time.

We would love to hear your comments.

It’s the age old predicament – You really do appreciate all the hard work of your employees but sometimes it’s hard to find the time or the right way to reward them. We, at JMP believe we have the solution to this problem that has plagued many HR departments and Line Managers alike.

Employee reward and incentive schemes used to be on a companies ‘nice to do’ list, now, they’re right at the top of the agenda. We have found that HR Directors, Finance Directors and CEOs are increasingly working together. This helps ensure their recognition programmes reward the exceptional performance of their employees while promoting their company ideals and leveraging outstanding financial value.

In the recent Guide to Reward and Benefit 2010 conducted by the Peoples Management Magazine it was discussed how companies are increasingly seeing the benefit of segmented departments, making a conscious effort to collaborate more to ensure their reward and incentive schemes are purposeful and practical for all parts of their company; bringing them right to the core of the corporate strategy.

By creating reward and recognition schemes that reflect your company’s overall objectives you can have a scheme that is both practical and beneficial in more ways than one.

Companies that retain their staff enjoy genuine competitive advantages:

Reduced recruitment and training costs

Reduced absenteeism

Increased productivity and attitude

Workforce stability

Greater employee buy-in and brand identification

At JMP, we link reward programmes to your organisational objectives for reduced operational and recruitment costs and a greater return on your investment for every employee.

Cash alone isn’t always the best motivator. In fact, it can actually de-motivate some employees if the sum on offer falls short of their own expectation of their worth. Instead we believe it’s the value-added incentives that encourage your employees to go that extra mile. Incentivising staff performance through long service awards, spot recognition awards and promotions will have a huge impact on your bottom line.

We understand that reward and recognition schemes should serve a purpose. They should be directly linked to the needs and direction of your company. They should push your ethos and encourage brand buy-in. Engagement isn’t just about maintaining staff satisfaction levels, but about advocacy for the business: pride, commitment and alignment to business goals.
