Cameron Highlands Post

Cameron Highland Trip.

Went to Cameron Highlands last weekend. Not much on the town cuz didn't go to the town in Brinchang or Tanah Rata. Anyways, here are some of the pictures we took during the trip.

Scouting for places to take photos. Cam whore....whahahahaha

1st stop. Looking at flowers and flowers and more flowers.

Hydroponic Lettuce. Yummy!! There's red lettuce too.

Kea Farm Market. Lotsa flowers and vegetables. Stopped here to get vege for steamboat later. :P

View from atop Gunung Brinchang. The hike up was awesome but tiring. However, it's well worth it. The view is simply breathtaking.

Fern. Seems to me that there's lotsa fern trees. Must be the cold weather.

Penang Bridge Run

Juz starting to run and my hands are shaking ady... :( Some of the pics I took with my shaking hands. Blurry and makes you headache. Anyway, I joined the 10KM Fun Run. And I thought there were supposed to be drinks station along the way. In the end, apa pun tarak. KNN.

Starting point, everybody still laughing and smiling. Wait you...when wanna finish, all pucat gila babi.

I'm flying!! Actually ran to the pedestrian crossing to take photos. Too bad no tripod. If not.. wont have shaking pictures. :P

This is the part where those with cameras stop and took photos. Again only this came out nice. No tripod. If got tripod and a zoom lens and a dslr. I could've taken a pretty decent shot.

Change the shutter speed to go real slow. Those marathon runners sure are fast.

Lonely fishing boat. Collecting the buoys for the day I think.

Twin Towers of Penang. hahaha. I forgot what the hell the name is ady. It's in Batu Uban there la the address.

Not unlike Taipei 101. Quake proofed. And hell its so beautiful.

Am I Active?

Was in Kulim last Saturday. Actually went to the Career Expo, which was a disappointment. Pack like sardines. And the body odour is just too powerful. Amazing how I manage not to throw up. Anyways, went to The Tree Top Walk Sungai Sedim which was 20-30 minutes drive away from Kulim High Tech Park. It boasts the longest canopy walk in the world. Took us around an hour to finish circling the canopy walk. Interesting.

Opposite is where we will start the walk. Interesting. And it doesn't shake or move a lot. But my dad was complaining of dizziness.

Maximum allowed - 30 pax. I don't wanna step onto it if there are 31 ppl on it now do I...

There's the river - Sg. Sedim. The whole place is a hutan lipur. God knows what it stands for. And people go rapid shooting on this river. Rapid shooting is going down stream real fast on a canoe/ kayak while not getting yourself killed. That's what it is.

Look carefully and you'll see a person on a tube going down stream. This is fun. Let's do it some time.

So the shadow was cast on both ways. Left and right. Right and left. And yes there's holes on the walk way. So that you can see all the way down down down.

The tree was actually swaying to the breeze.

This is tricky. It's as close as it gets. I was shaking becuz the camera is so close to the river and the water is splashing here and there. And it's freezing cold. Nice? hehe :P

THE NEXT DAY (SUNDAY)

Padang Dato' Keramat. Penang Cup - Paintball. Was there for a couple of hours. Lazy to take pictures, more interested in looking at them running around and not getting hit by pellets. I saw a girl fainted. Hit by a pellet or two, right smack on the head, ngam ngam on top the face mask ends. I think. haha.. Rumours anyway.

Before the start. Markers aimed to the back. And do those silly stances while waiting for the marshalls to countdown. Freaking nerve wreaking.

Run hide dodge kill. Motto of all the teams. Just don't get hit by the pellets. Believe me, I've gotten one on my hand. It stings.!!!!!

Long Boi

Birthday Boy.
No cakes, but one big bowl of fish balls. Steaming hot. And surprisingly delicious. I don't usually like to eat fish balls. But this is nice and the soup has a tinge of liquor in it.

Chi lei.. I ordered 'hai lei'. So damn bloody embarrassed. Nothing special.

When my friend ordered this dish, we were like...WAT? Why order this? Nothing special wan. haha. Boy of boy, we were so wrong. The fish ball is very 'q' - springy. And the soup is simply irresistible.

Had to let him take the 1st bite. haha.

Fried prawns in flour. How do you call this dish. 'He Chnih'. Crispy.

Stingray. Not 'Hanga Hu' is 'Phek Kia'. The flesh is very juicy and has better taste than the average stingray used. The gravy is spicily nice. haha.

One of the two crabs that we ordered. What can I say. I like crab with big ass - 'what do u call that' claws'? hahaha...

Hold it up. Like a necklace that you can wear.

Clean Thoroughly. Thanks to our huge appetite.

How's the food? The food is nice. The place is kinda hard to describe. And I forgot the name of the restaurant. All I know is the place in in Long Boi ... somewhere in Air Itam/ Farlim area. Yummy!!!

Dragon Boat Festival

Just ran in the Penang Bridge Run today. And I'm updating on a post 2 weeks ago I should have post. haha. Anyway, I'll be getting the Penang Bridge run photo from my cousin when I ask from her. Hopefully soon. :) Fingers Crossed.
This Dragon Boat Festival is an international event held I think annually in Penang. I was kinda hoping for a nice boat that looks like a dragon. But sadly there is none. :(

Bukit Genting - The Verdict

2 weeks ago, went to Bukit Genting for dinner. Apparently the thai restaurant is quite famous. My verdict is in. hehe. For directions there, can refer to the maps below.

The road up to the restaurant was steep. VERY STEEP!! But the view was breathtaking. Can't take photos when going up. Two hands on the steering wheel. If not, I'd be hurtling down the hill. Don't want that to happen. I think the reason why the restaurant is appealing is because of the view. "Romantic" labeled on through and through.

The entrance at the foot of the hill which is situated quite hidden from the main road. Might miss it if didn't look carefully. It says "Bukit Genting Eco Tourism".

Omelette with stuffing a la thai. There's cucumber, carrots, peas, and corn. We ordered a small plate. For a good reason, it wasn't bad. Just not that great. I bet my grandma can do one better.

Fried KangKung. Now this is interesting. And tasty too. I liked this dish the most. And there's hidden 'dynamite' in the form of cili padi. Nearly bombed my mouth if not for my sharp eyes. haha. Actually my fren told me about it, if not. Urgh...Don't wanna think about it.

Otak Otak. This dish is disapointing. A little too dry. And not as fragrant as I thought it would be. Partly because the missing indgredient, 'chai ko kam'. Ask ur mummy what's that. I dunno the english equivalent. And it's seafood otak otak. 2 prawns only? Come on... can do better la.

The appetizer. What's this called?.. I think it is called mengkom. Something like that. I like the sauce in the middle. What you do is use the leaf and wrap everything in it and then top up with the sauce. Yummy.

The reason why the place is so popular despite the mediocre food. The sunsets! The view is simply beautiful. Stunning.

Balik Pulau town. Nicely nestled at the foot of the hill overlooking the sea.

I think this is Teluk Kumbar town. I think.
The food is not as nice as what some of my other friends mentioned. But the view compensate it hugely. For a moment, you'll forget about the food and just stare at the open space with the sunset. Then when it's dark, you'll realise that a huge chunk of your money is spent on climbing up the steep hill and enjoying the sunset.
My friends said it is an ideal place for couples to enjoy. hehe. Gotta go find me one now to enjoy.

Tao - The Verdict

On a wonderful Sunday evening last few weeks ago, my friends and I decided to try out Tao Cuisine, a restaurant located at Auto City and E-gate. Needless to say, we're all excited. 1stly, we get to cross the Penang Bridge. And 2nd, it was a picturesque sunset. I was trying not to think about the review that Yung wrote when he went there. Anyway, here's mine. :)

Sri Ayutthaya. I guessed it's a Thai Restaurant. Looks Expensive. :P One day. I might try having a meal there. :)

Here we are, Tao. Translated as 'teaching'. Teaching in mediocre food served? We'll see... Unlike the branch in e-gate, this one has a lounge with live band playing at night. And of course the restaurant is right at the back. RM45 ++ for the buffet dinner. So far it's looking up.

The Menu. I think they serve a la carte and set lunches too. And the price that they quote in it got me thinking. I ain't coming here for lunch. OR dinner if they serve a la carte. So bloody expensive. Might as well go to Equatorial. Spend more. Nearer. Nicer.

Sashimi - that's for a person portion. So can order as much as you like. They served sushi too BUT fucking hell, even sushi king has better sushi than them. The fish is not fresh. The rice is not soft. And the vinegar that they used, I suspect is the 'el-cheapo' type. What a huge turn off. But the sashimi is commendable. Not fresh fresh, but just fresh enough to be served. Luckily, the wasabe is not stale. Thank God for that.

And yes, yours truly is still smiling away because a good dinner is not when it's taken alone, but with friends. I ain't smiling for the food though. But the service is good. Wonder why?...

I think they are holding the Tao Handroll. Something like that la. Not bad. The taste.
We ordered lots of food. I was half hoping the food to be better. The cawan mushi is not smooth. And I noticed that most of the food is cooked creamier, richer in milk or butter or cheese. That didn't stop me from ordering 40 sets of scallop. That's 120 pieces. AND IT"S SMALL!!

My verdict: 4/10. It's refreshing to see different kind of restaurants in Penang. But food quality wise, could be better. And cut down on the butter, cheese and creamy stuff. It's not appetizing. Surprisingly, a lot of people I talked to liked Tao. Uh... beauty is in the eye of the beholder? You tell me.

And the toilet. What's a guy doing with a sanitary pad in the Male Restroom. Come on. I'm not having period cramps.

Miri

On the way to Miri. Can't really get a nicer picture cuz of the reflection of the window pane. What a pain in the ass. Tried so hard. hahaha.

Miri Airport at night. That's my dad making a cameo appearance for once in my blog. haha. It looks kinda dark already although it's only 7.30pm evening. Not even night yet!!

I'm listening to Bon Jovi while writing this. That's part of Miri town, not town any more City (konon). Near the sea. Lotsa oilrigs around. The tall building furthest right is where the graduation was held. Imperial Hotel.

Turn around and there you have it. Atop of Canada Hill, The Grand Old Lady. 1st oilrig in Malaysia. That's wat kept Miri alive. If not, it would be a town so dead you wont even go near. There's a Petroleum Science Museum beside it. But never seems to be opened every time I go there. 2 years + liao lo.

Another appearance by my dad and this time my mum. Not Mulu tho. It's Batu Niah National Park. Nice place to go. 150km off Miri. Not far away. That's 4km walk into the jungle before reaching the mouth of the cave. Quite fun. haha.

I skipped one day worth of photos for the next post. In the meantime, was in the Miri International Jazz Festival. Oh yeah, before I forget, Genting is gonna host another jazz festival this coming June. Tickets are expensive to say the least. Back to Miri, managed to get free tickets from my fren's fren. Was having one of the best times in Miri. The music was excellent. That's the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, from New Orleans. Bloody hell, they are good!!
