Army Strong! {sneak peek} - Archdale NC Family Photographer

I'm so proud to know this family. I've been photographing them for a few years now and have loved seeing their children grow. Mama L called me recently with a special request. Her oldest son joined the Army awhile back and they just found out he is officially leaving for his first tour overseas. He's home for just a week before he leaves and she wanted nothing more than to get some great family portraits while he was here. And the added bonus? Today is her birthday! I don't think there is a better birthday gift than to have your whole family together at once. Her daughter drove in for the weekend and her son just got home from his most recent training yesterday. I bet mom is going to love having a full house again this weekend. Happy birthday Mama L!

Best of luck to this handsome young man. Thank you so much for your service and we'll see you again when you come back home.

Stunning Miss K {sneak peek} - Newborn Photographer in the Triad

The stunning little lady visited the studio this morning and rocked her newborn session. She's a tiny little thing, but I can tell she's going to have a big personality when she grows up. Miss K shot me a few scowls when she first arrived, but fell fast asleep after her mama fed her. She pretty much slept through the entire session after that, with only a few times waiting for her to settle into a position. It was such a pleasure to work with her mommy and daddy too. :) Thank you so much for bringing her to see me. I can't wait to go in and edit all these gorgeous portraits. It was a beautiful day at the park today! I had one makeup mini session left for the season. Let me say, only photographing families once a year, you forget how tiring it is to chase an almost 2 year old. :) LOL. But we managed to get quite a few in the short period of time we had together. Of course, my squeaky chicken may have made an appearance in a few of those photos. LOL. But more on that later. :) Here's a little sneak peek for mama. I can't wait to go through the rest!

2014 Fall Mini Sessions - Jody Gall Photography

Can you believe it? Fall is here already. And you know what that means… it's time for Fall Mini Sessions! Yay! I only offer mini sessions once a year, so this is big news. I'm so excited to work with all my wonderful families again.

For those of you who are not familiar with these, mini sessions are short 20-30 minute sessions. They are perfect for updating yearly family photos, capturing individual pics of the kids, and even for maternity pics. Whatever your reason…now is the time book!! I will only be offering a limited number of spots this year, so contact me soon if you would like to schedule.

Hello world! {sneak peek} - North Carolina newborn photographer

Well hello world! What? I'm supposed to fall asleep during my newborn session? But I'll miss everything if I fall asleep. :)

I just loved this little man. He spent a bit of time in the hospital before I could see him, but it was so worth the wait! He was an absolute little doll baby at 19 days old. He was very awake for the first part of his session, but he didn't hardly make a peep. He just looked around, and yawned, and took it all in. :) What a sweet, sweet boy.

I really enjoyed working with your family Mama C! Enjoy your sneak peek (well, sneak peeks…lol), I can't wait to go through the rest! Congrats!

Oh my! My beautiful, sweet baby girl! She makes my heart flutter. Today I decided to play with a new light I ordered down in the studio. So, of course, my youngest decided to come downstairs and see what was going on. She climbed up on my new studio sofa and I immediately flipped my light around and decided to play a game of pick a boo with her. She was soooo cute, so I had to share! :) Doesn't she just put a smile on your face? I love her so much!

It's party time! Introducing the new Jody Gall Photography!

I seriously want to have 10,000 balloons come pouring down from above and jump up and down, and twirl around in them. That's how happy and thrilled I am about introducing the new Jody Gall Photography. That's right, it's a relaunch party! Jody Gall Photography has a new location, new branding, new pricing and a new business model. I'm so excited about this new chapter in my journey! So here it is, the new logo of Jody Gall Photography!

As many of you know, my family and I moved earlier this year. Not too far away. . . just a hop, skip and a jump from Greensboro. We're now in Thomasville, North Carolina. Though technically, I would say we live closer to Trinity. We're in Randolph County, just minutes south of the Trinity/Thomasville area. The new studio space is fabulous. It's located in the lower level of our home and is 600 wonderful square feet! I feel like I have so much room now. Here's a little sneak peek I posted on Facebook awhile back. I promise to post finished pictures soon. I'm still in the process of organizing and decorating. :)

You would think moving to a new location would be what inspired me to make a change. But it actually wasn't. I decided to rebrand before we ever even bought our new home. I felt my brand didn't fit me anymore once I decided to specialize in newborns. It took many years to figure out what I really loved to do and what kinds of sessions really fulfilled me. Once I took the jump to exclusively working with newborns, it just felt right. So that's where we come in with the decision to re-brand.

The process was. . . well, let's see, it was daunting. lol. It's taken me the last year to decide which direction I wanted to go, develop my new brand, design all the details and graphics, rewrite all my webpages (did you know I write all the HTML myself. . . by hand? no fancy programs here), create all new pricing and packages, design all new integrated forms for various things like session agreements, pricing guides and contact forms, plan new marketing strategies, and so on and so on. But the end result was worth every last second I've put into it this past year.

Let me be the first to tell you, it's a lot of work. It's not just get a cute new logo, change your colors and you're good to go. I really took into account some important questions. The main one being how I wanted my clients to feel when they worked with me. Emotion plays a big part in branding. It's what can set you apart from others in your area. How does someone feel when they use your service or purchase your product? Well guess what? Newborn photography is ALL about emotion. I want my clients to feel calm, safe and relaxed while working with me. I want them to feel confident in their choice to hire me, knowing that I'm a licensed and insured business. I want them to trust me handling their new little baby, knowing I'm experienced in my field. I want them to fully embody motherhood and fatherhood and all the devotion and pride that comes along with it. I want my clients to look back on their portraits years from now with fondness and love, remembering how their newborn smelled and how their heart melted the first time that little hand gripped their finger. So, needless to say, a lot of thought about emotion was involved in this process.

Believe it or not, I started all this with an inspiration board on Pinterest. Did you know you can create private boards on there that no one else can see? I totally took advantage of that and started pinning things that spoke to me. Images that evoked a feeling, or of decor I loved, or something that made me smile. I pinned any image that I connected with on some level. Well, after a few months of doing this I noticed a reoccurring theme. . . the lavender flower and lavender hues. I would pin images like a living room all in white with a beautiful lavender rug, an old tin bucket with lavender flowers in it, a lavender field with the sun setting behind it, clothing with shades of lavender and gray, etc, etc. So I started researching what lavender means, for both the flower and the color. And guess what? What I learned was awesome! Everything I read and learned fit perfectly into motherhood and what I wanted my business to represent.

Here are some of the facts I learned about lavender when I did a little research. Every new fact I learned confirmed how much more I wanted to incorporate lavender into my branding.

* LAVENDER LEGEND *
- "Traditionally, sprigs of lavender were placed in the hands of women in labor. Squeezing the fragrant bundles was said to give them strength and courage during childbirth." (source)
- "Lavender is graceful and feminine. Lavender has long been a favorite flower and color of genteel ladies. This shade of purple suggests refinement along with grace, elegance, and something special." (source)

* LAVENDER FLOWER *
- "The most common meaning of the Lavender flower is love and devotion. Lavender flowers are also associated with purity, silence and caution. When given as a gift, Lavender flowers represent luck. They also offer the promise of new adventure." (source)
- "The meaning of lavender flowers is one of womanhood in her prime. The elegance of lavender reflects the grace and feminine beauty of those who receive it. Modest yet mature, lavender connotes a message of what it really means to be a woman." (source)

* LAVENDER AROMA *
- "Lavender helps you relax. You may have heard that breathing in the smell of lavender makes you drowsy; turns out, it's true. Research shows the scent lowers heart rate and blood pressure, putting you in a relaxed state. To set yourself up for zzz's, put a handful of dried lavender in a vase on your nightstand." (source)
- "Lavender is commonly prescribed by aromatherapists to help reduce stress, anxiety, insomnia and mild depression. It is often referred to as a mood balancing herb that possesses a sedative and calming effect. It has been shown in many research studies that lavender can ease stress, induce relaxation, refresh, and even invigorate." (source)

* LAVENDER COLOR *
- "Lavender color is the color of feminity. Lavender color represents grace, elegance, romance, something unique and special. Lavender color is associated with spiritual healing and tranquillization. Lavender color also represents refinement, luxury and wealth." (source)
- "While purple is the color of royalty, lavender is the color of femininity. It's a grown up pink. Use the color lavender to suggest something unique or extremely special but without the deeper mystery of purple. Lavender may be a good choice when you are targeting women and want to invoke feelings of nostalgia or romance." (source)

Isn't that awesome?! Who knew that one flower and one color could mean so much? This is why I decided to incorporate lavender in my branding. I chose to use just one lavender flower in my logo. . . one simple, strong image that embodies and represents Jody Gall Photography. My studio will have real lavender throughout so the smell creates a relaxing and calming experience for both mother and baby. Each of my newborn clients will take home their very own sachet of lavender with their order. I'll also add hints of lavender color in my design elements and in my packaging.

My journey so far has been wonderful. Every session has taught me something new and I've grown stronger with every click of the shutter. Thank you to everyone who has made me who I am! Time to update my blog with some wonderful family sessions. What?! You didn't know I photographed families and children also? Well, guess what? I do! But there is a catch. I only offer these sessions about once a year, usually in the late summer or fall, and spots are always limited. Look how sweet and angelic he is! You'd never guess he was one tough cookie for his session. :) But that's totally okay. I need a good challenge every once in awhile to keep me on my toes. LOL! I love this family! They are so cute and fun. Lots of laughs and giggles, even though they try to be serious. :) I have a few families that are tried any true yearly clients, and this family is one of them. I love how every year I feel like I get to know them just a little better and a little more. It's so awesome!

This session was quite the exciting session. I had only snapped off a few family pics when all of a sudden the skies got dark and the hugest pop of lighting and the loudest thunder went off right behind me (while I was standing up on the step stool!). It scared me soooo bad. I jumped down and screamed, "That's it, we're done!". LOL! So needless to say, we are still planning on getting back together to makeup this session. With some of the family located out of town, it may be awhile before they can come back again. So for now, I figured I'd go ahead and pull out a family sneak peek to tide everyone over until we meet up again! Talk to you soon!

Fall Mini Sessions - The S Family [sneak peek]

I finally made up the final mini session that was rained out. Yay! And let me tell you, it was a complete opposite from my previous mini sessions. I believe the high today was 51 degrees. It was cold! Well, for this born and raised Florida girl, it was cold. LOL. But everyone did great, none the less.

I just adore this family! It's so hard to believe that the last time we worked together was almost one year ago for their sweet baby girl's newborn session. You can check out her newborn session HERE! She has grown so much, I just can't believe it. She was curious and crawling all over the place during our mini session today. But big brother did great by helping me get her attention when it was time for her solo shots. He would stand behind me, lean on my back and make funny faces at her over my shoulder. She loved it!

Oh, that smile could just melt you away. And that head full of hair is to die for! This handsome boy came to see me this morning for his newborn session. He was awesome. I even got some great cuddle time with him as I rocked him to sleep in my rocking chair. :) I could of held him all day long. He's 7 days old today and he is officially my third 9+ pound baby this past year. I'm just lovin' all these big gorgeous healthy babies. Thanks so much to his mama, and his grandma and grandaddy, for bringing him by today. We had a short session, but I know we have lots to choose from. I can't wait to go through them all.
