My iPhone has spoiled me. After living with it for one year, I can tell you that it is a game changer.

I don’t print driving directions anymore.

I don’t know or remember any phone number.

I have come to rely on location based search for food and supplies.

I use my phone to blog. (Writing this post right now from my iPhone).

The iPhone has changed my Twitter life. I am no longer a slave to my desktop Twitter client.

I can snap photos of my kids and send them immediately to their grandparents in Pennsylvania.

The iPhone truly is an amazing device. My big problem is my dependence on it. Like I mentioned above – it has caused me to be less prepared.

Last week I stopped by Beehive Baltimore for a show and tell session. The members gather once a month to show each other the projects they are working on. My friend Dave Troy is working on some really neat apps for the iPhone.

I don’t know if he wants the word out yet, so I will just say that it blew my mind in how it could be used for daily life.

I can envision a day when we carry a device with us that completely supports and augments our daily lives.

How about you? Do you use the iPhone or another device – and what’s your take on it?

My friend pointed me to a new website that shows Twitter trends geographically. Here are some ideas of how this can be used.

I’m convinced that the people who figure out a good way to track metrics and ROI on Twitter are going to make a lot of money. Part of tracking involves figure out the trending topics. My friend, John Lucchetti, pointed me to a new website that shows Twitter trends geographically.

By looking at a map you can not only tell what people are talking about on Twitter – but where they are talking about it. This information can be location based. For example, I live in Baltimore and can see what people are talking about in my city. It can also be used topically to find out where topics and trends get the most chatter.

As of this writing a major flood is happening in Atlanta. The tags #atlflood and #flood are showing up on the map near Atlanta for obvious reasons.

This Twitter trends map got me thinking about how we can search and organize information on Twitter.

Here’s your assignment. Come up with five ways that you see a Twitter Trends map being useful for your business, career or personal life. Report back in the comments or find me on Twitter.

In the past I’ve talked about what Hollywood gets right. But there is one big thing that bothers me about Hollywood and the entertainment industry.

Waste.

Not only do large big budget films and TV shows produce physical waste, but they also produce time and talent waste.

Contrast the average movie crew with that of a new media crew and the differences are staggering.

New media producers are simply more efficient and produce less waste.

If you are serious about doing business online - If you are wanting to take control of your email - If you have a heart at all.... PLEASE use Gmail.

I don’t understand.

People give me various email addresses to contact them. But more often than not I don’t get a reply for days. Sometimes weeks.

The excuse goes something like this…

“Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner, but you sent an email to my AOL/Hotmail/Yahoo account and I don’t check that very often.”

First of all – why did you give me an email address that you don’t check?

Second – have you ever heard of Gmail? It is Google’s version of email. Not only is it excellent for managing all the messages you get in your inbox, but it also allows you to manage all your other email accounts inside the Gmail account. I could go on and on about the virtues of Gmail. But I’ll just point you to a top ten list instead.

I currently use five different email addresses. I have an address for:

personal

business

consulting gigs

sharing with third parties

bank accounts

If I had to manage all of these accounts separately I would go insane. With Gmail I can route them all through one account. I never miss an email, never feel like I am playing catch-up and am able to respond to opportunities and challenges quickly.

For the love of all that is sacred – Get yourself a Gmail account and route all your email through it. You will be doing yourself a favor. And me.

You’ve heard the saying, “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a person healthy, wealthy and wise.”

But it’s not the actual sleeping early and rising early that makes you wealthy and healthy. The true secret is what you are doing in order to get to bed early and rise early. To do this you must practice…

Discipline.

I’ve been reading the Dan Kennedy book “No BS Time Management.” In the book he talks about how no one likes the idea of living a disciplined life. But he points out that being disciplined is the surest way to success.

What are your sticking points when it comes to discipline? Are there areas that you excel at and others areas in which you struggle?

I logged into my Feedburner account today and started noticing a sharp increase in RSS subscribers. Think more carefully about how to leverage Friendfeed for your web content. This appears to be a powerful tool.

I haven’t been keeping track of my Feedburner stats as much lately. I am convinced that RSS is secondary to email subscribers. But…

Having said that – I did log into my Feedburner account today and started noticing a sharp increase in RSS subscribers. Looking at the pie-chart it looks like the majority of these are being counted in Friendfeed.

Note to self. Think more carefully about how to leverage Friendfeed for my own sites and client sites. This appears to be a powerful tool.

What is your experience with Friendfeed? How are you using it to communicate online? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment below.
