Nate, Ross, and I have been toying around the past couple weeks at KPBS with Ustreaming Editors Roundtable on Friday mornings, having previously streamed the San Diego Mayoral and City Attorney debates.

I’d recently set this up on the fly for Editors remotely from Denver immediately after the DNC, and just as news was breaking about Sarah Palin getting the nod as GOP VP nominee.

Ustream’s chat component in this case proved especially useful since we encountered audio problems so that Gloria, in Denver, couldn’t hear questions from callers listening in San Diego.  I ended up curating and feeding chat room user questions to Hank, a radio producer, via Skype.  Those eventually were read on the air and discussed, and it was all good.

But if we fully launch and promote a regular web component to Editors Roundtable — which I hope we can — we might start getting more questions than we can effectively cull from, in which case this Google rollout could be perfectly timed.  I’ll definitely be testing it out.

Select San Diegans rubbed elbows with some high-profile politicians yesterday at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Rachel Rott is one of them. A Democratic Party pledge delegate from California’s 49th Congressional district — which covers much of Northern San Diego County — she was inspired last night by emotionally-charged speeches by Senator Edward Kennedy and Michelle Obama, both of which framed Barack Obama as an embodiment of the American dream.

“Joe Biden just walked by, and I just touched Caroline Kennedy in the hallway, and I saw Jim Webb on the floor.  This is, this is amazing.  This is once in a lifetime.  And this is our moment.  I think for all of America this is our chance to reclaim our country — starting with moments like what Michelle gave us tonight.”

Featured convention speakers on the docket tomorrow night include Hillary Clinton, who yesterday urged her delegates to use their votes to support Senator Obama.

My longtime friend Mike Machenry always has at least a couple ingenious projects on his plate at any given moment.  His latest is designing the software for Round, which is now on exhibit at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT.

Round puts the museum visitor into an audio space that transcends time. When you listen to the piece you are hearing everyone who has ever been to the museum and talked about the art that you’re looking at.
