Take a close look at your fingernails. Are they strong and healthy looking? Or do you see ridges, dents, or areas of unusual color or shape? Many less than desirable nail conditions can be avoided through proper fingernail care. Others indicate an underlying condition that requires attention.

Fingernails: What's normal, what's not

Your fingernails — composed of laminated layers of a protein called keratin — grow from the area at the base of the nail under your cuticle. As new cells grow, older cells become hard and compacted and are eventually pushed out toward your fingertips.

Healthy fingernails are smooth, without pits or grooves. They're uniform in color and consistency and free of spots or discoloration. Sometimes fingernails develop harmless vertical ridges that run from the cuticle to the tip of the nail. Vertical ridges tend to become more prominent with age. Fingernails can also develop white lines or spots due to injury, but these eventually grow out with the nail.
Not all nail conditions are normal, however. Consult your doctor or dermatologist if you notice:

Changes in nail color, such as discoloration of the entire nail or a dark streak under the nail
Changes in nail shape, such as curled nails
Thinning or thickening of the nails
Separation of the nail from the surrounding skin
Bleeding around the nails
Redness, swelling or pain around the nails

Fingernail care: Do's and don'ts

To keep your fingernails looking their best, follow these simple guidelines.
Do:

Keep your fingernails dry and clean. This prevents bacteria, fungi and other organisms from growing under your fingernails. Wear cotton-lined rubber gloves when washing dishes, cleaning or using harsh chemicals, and avoid long soaks in the tub.
Trim and file your fingernails regularly. Use a sharp manicure scissors or clippers. Trim your nails straight across, then round the tips in a gentle curve. It might be easiest to trim and file your fingernails when they're soft, such as after bathing.
Use moisturizer. When you use hand lotion, rub the lotion into your fingernails and cuticles, too.

Don't:

Abuse your fingernails. To prevent nail damage, don't use your fingernails as tools to pick, poke or pry things.
Bite your fingernails or pick at your cuticles. These habits can damage the nail bed. Even a minor cut alongside your fingernail can allow bacteria or fungi to enter and cause an infection.
Pull off hangnails. You might rip live tissue along with the hangnail. Instead, carefully clip off hangnails.
Ignore problems. If you have a nail problem that doesn't seem to go away on its own or is associated with other signs and symptoms, consult your doctor or dermatologist for an evaluation.

What you’ll need:

Your fave shade of loose eye shadow
Clear nail polish
Small spoon
Small bowl
Plastic bag (optional)

Nail polish remover (optional)

What you’ll do:

1. Making your own nail polish is super easy! Start out by pouring some of the clear polish in a small bowl. Start off with only a little, because sometimes the eye shadow doesn’t mix well. You can add more later if you like.

2. Scoop out a little bit of eye shadow. If it isn’t loose shadow, put it into a plastic bag and break it down.

3. While stirring the clear polish, gradually add the eye shadow. The more you add, the more opaque the color will be. If you want to make more polish, add more clear polish.

4. Get creative! Add in glitter, mix colors, or add more eye shadow.

5. If the polish gets a little too thick, add a small drop of remover to the mix.

6. If you want to save some for later, find a small, clean glass container (old nail polish bottles work perfect).

Do you have short & weak nails? Read on for tips and tricks on how to make your nails grow faster and keep your hands nice, soft and healthy.

1.Avoid painting your nails, as this softens the tip of your nail and breaks away your nail (as do all the chemicals) in nail varnish.

2. Do not bite your nails. If you do your nails will never grow long. (Extra tip: If you are a biter, when you feel the urge to bite your nails sit on your hands or do something creative with them to talk your mind out of it)

3.Avoid digging/scratching with your nails as this weakens your nails & due to this they have more chance of breaking or not growing properly

4.Use a hand and nail moisturiser daily: one with not too many chemicals, and natural ingredients. Use this three times a day and only a little on your nails.

5. Clean your nails with a nail cleaner daily.

6.push your cuticles down (the little white half circle at the bottom of your nail). You can get a special item to do this, ask in boots or any chemist and do it twice a day. This pushes the skin down and makes nails look longer whilst growing them.

7.Avoid putting your hands in strong liquids (E.g bleach, cleaners) as this gets chemicals on your hands and makes them look and feel stiff and horrible.

8.Use a hand and nail cream daily, only use a little bit on the back of your hand and rub in. (If you moisturise your hands too much they will become greasy)

9. Avoid sitting in the bath or shower too long, as this makes your hands and feet wrinkly, this also takes a lot of moisture out of your skin.

10.If you use your hands a lot (E.g Gardening, Writing, Cooking) then try your best to moisturize 5 times a day in an even time plan.

1. Never push back dry cuticles. Doing so can crack polish at the base, which leads to chipping, says New York City celebrity nail pro Deborah Lippmann, who offers tips like this in her master class, held at upscale department stores. But if you're about to change your polish, you don't want any cuticle skin on the nail's surface (it can interfere with your base coat) — so loosen ragged edges by rubbing in a softening cream. Then gently nudge cuticles back with an orangewood stick.
2. Don't soak fingertips. There's no real reason to do so (at salons, it's just part of the pampering), and, says Tom Bachick, executive vice president of the Young Nails Company, it can actually have a negative effect: When you soak your nails, they absorb water, which temporarily puffs them up — but they revert to their normal shape when the water evaporates. This expansion and contraction is the top cause of chipping, peeling, and cracking of polish, says Bachick

3. Get the surface clean, clean, clean. Any traces of moisture, dust, or leftover enamel will get in the way of new-polish adhesion. To pave the way for true staying power, drizzle an old toothbrush with hand soap; then use it to "get into the corners and under nail tips, where oil — the great enemy — may be hiding," suggests Jan Arnold, cofounder of Creative Nail Design. (Steer clear of lanolin-based soaps, which interfere with adhesion.) Then swipe on an acetone polish remover to temporarily dehydrate the nail plate.
4. Shape up. "To maximize nail strength, tips should be rounded and corners left somewhat square," says Robyn Gmyrek, M.D., an assistant clinical professor of dermatology at Columbia University, in New York City. Filing is healthier than clipping, which can crack the nail plate. Use a fine-grit nail file and work in one direction. "Filing back and forth with an abrasive board will cause the nail's delicate keratin layers to peel away from each other," says Elsbeth Schuetz, international educator for Orly.
5. Apply a base coat (no, it's not just a marketing ploy). Not only does a bottom layer give lacquer something to latch on to, says chemist Doug Schoon, vice president of research and development for Creative Nail Design, but studies show that a base coat sticks to nails better than polish does. For uneven nail surfaces, choose a base that also smooths out roughness.
6. Once lacquer is on, seal it with a slow-setting topcoat. Quick-dry kinds are certainly appealing, but they evaporate so fast, they leave polish soft, mushy, and prone to denting. A slower-acting topcoat leaves a harder, more protective finish. To speed things up without sacrificing protection, use a drying oil or spray over your topcoat.

hi girls am going to teach you today how to make your own nail polish unique and in your own style!

handmade nail polish
all you need to make this nail polish is:
1-empty bottle
2-base purple nail polish
blue glitter super tiny
3-a minature FUNNEL

ok let"s start
for 25 ml nail polish we need:
24ml purple nail polish and 2 grams blue glitter

after we fill the bottle with purple nail polish
we take the funnel and with help of this tool we can throw the 2grams glitter dust inside the bottle with nail polish ,close good the bottle
give it a good shake
and you will
get results as in pic above
