Aspiral Clock by Will Aspinall and Neil Lambeth

Invented by London-based designers Will Aspinall and Neil Lambeth, the Aspiral Clock turns slowly over twelve hours. The red ball rests on the spiral ledge; as the spiral turns it travels along the ledge to the middle. At the 12th hour it drops through hole in the middle to begin its journey again at the bottom. 2010 Calendar - Keskin rims all the year round

To strengthen their reputation within their customers, international rim producer “Keskin Tuning” targeted their most important trade partners to bring attention to their product highlights in 2010. Therefore, they created a calendar for all Keskin-dealers, which was integrated in an original car tire. Month to month the calendar sheets show a stylish new Keskin rim. In doing so changing the calendar sheet became changing the rims.

Print is dead. Well, almost. Advertising expenditure among National newspapers in the Philippines further declined to eleven percent while total ad spending on magazines only grew two percent compared to last year. I don't know how the other countries are doing but it's good to know that in Portugal, a daily-news-magazine simply called i came up with a way to bring Print back to life.

Portugal's newest daily newspaper, i, was launched in early May and has attracted a significant amount of attention due to its rising circulation figures and innovative approach. It recently won a design award from the Society of News Design. The Editors Weblog spoke to editor-in-chief Martim Avillez Figueiredo, managing editor for online Mónica Bello and art director Nick Mrozowski, to find out more about i's approach and the reasons behind its success.

"I is not structured like a traditional paper. The paper's team worked with media consultancy Innovation to come up with a new way to organise the product. "Our feeling was," said Figueiredo, who came on board at an early stage, moving from Diário Económico, "that people were not concerned about traditional sections any more. Traditionally, journalists have to fill a politics section even if there is nothing relevant going on in politics. We wanted to come up with something different." So the team came up with five key needs that they wanted the paper to address, with five key words."

Sounds like a lot of work though. I really hope this newspaper continues to be successful and I hope it inspires other newspapers.

Brief: The most basic component of typography is the letter, and each letter of the alphabet is distinguished by its unique shape. The t-shirts include definitions for and illustrations of the individual parts that compose the letter “ a ”, as well as the boundaries by which the letter is delineated.

Philips 21:9 - Carousel by Adam Berg

Directed by Adam Berg, the film (which clocks in at a totally coincidental 2:19) is Stink Digital's first big interactive project of 2009 for Philips' swish new 21:9 Cinema TV. Working in conjunction with Tribal DDB Amsterdam, they've created both the rich, visually-led microsite as well as the jawdropping film that functions as its centerpiece.

Ashton Kutcher vs CNN: A Race to A Million Twitter Followers

A couple of days ago, actor Ashton Kutcher challenged CNN to a race to a million Twitter followers and promised to "ding dong ditch" billionaire Ted Turner (founder of CNN) if he beats CNN to the landmark number. Videos from Ashton Kutcher, Larry King and more after the jump.

Below, anchor Larry King got involved and responded to the challenge Kutcher laid out saying that one man couldn't take down a whole network. Larry King also noted that while Ted Turner did started CNN, he no longer runs the cable network. But Kutcher wanted to punk him, so now he's apparently involved whether he wants to or not.

Then Kutcher upped the ante with an offer to buy 10,000 bed nets to fight malaria in Africa. Yes, the whole thing is silly but at least it's for a good cause. Then Electronic Arts stepped into the fight and offered to put Kutcher's 1 millionth follower in its Sims 3 game, and a copy of every game it make in 2009.

What's also interesting about all this is that the cnnbrk account that Kutcher is racing against wasn't even maintained by CNN until James Cox (the person who created the account) confirmed that he has sold the CNNBrk Twitter account to CNN for an undisclosed sum.

Also during the interview (embedded below), Turner's daughter, Laura Turner Seydel said on a radio show that if Ashton Kutcher donates 10,000 nets, she will ask her father to personally endorse Ashton in his quest for a million followers. However, CNN also said that it will match Kutcher's net pledge if it wins the race and still donate 1,000 nets if it loses.

And here's a video statement from Kutcher giving an update on the race two days ago. Lil Kim also joins the twitter challenge with a shout out to Ashton Kutcher and check out the campaign in front of CNN building.

As of this writing, Ashton Kutcher leads the race with 988,068 followers and CNN closely left behind with 987,733. Chartbeat has a real-time count of twitter followers for both CNN and Ashton Kutcher on its site.

UPDATE: Ashton Kutcher won around 2:13PM today (GMT + 0800) and is now the first man with a million Twitter followers. Kutcher will also be donating 10,000 bed nets to fight malaria in Africa.
