Mount Belumut (Gunung Belumut), standing at 1,010 metres (3,314 ft), is located in the state of Johor, Malaysia. The trek can be completed in one day, while the average climber would take two days one night. For the average climber, the climb to the summit takes 5 to 6 hours and the return to the foot (by the same route) takes 3 to 4 hours.

Before reaching the summit of Gunung Belumut, climbers will first pass by a ‘false summit’, where camping overnight is possible in fair weather conditions. From the ‘false summit’, it’s about half-an-hour’s trek to the summit. A huge boulder, named the Crown Rock, sits on the summit. The boulder got its name because it looks like a giant crown.^[1]

Due to its popularity, some parts of the trail have been badly eroded. The trail is under repair and closed to climbers from April to October 2008. The campsite is also dirtied by inconsiderate climbers who leave their rubbish behind. To get to Gunung Belumut, one has to get to Kluang, and take a cab from the bus terminal to Belumut (or “Gunung Lumut” as it is known locally.

Small children can also enjoy themselves at the Wet World Batu Pahat as there are special water areas designed for their needs. Accompanied by adults, small children can splash about safely in the kids’ pool and play on the kiddy slides. Once they’ve discovered the fun of playing in the water, they will not want to get out.

o After all the excitement of the water rides, it’s time to take it easy and relax in the swirling waters of the Jacuzzi. For those with lots of leg energy, they may want to try the paddleboats and paddle around in the lake.

If you like fishing, why not join the many people at the lake and try your luck at landing a fish? There is also an area where ducks, swans and ostriches are kept, which will surely interest the children. With activities for everyone to enjoy, whatever the age group it’s no wonder the Wet World Batu Pahat is a favourite destination in Johor.

The Johor Bahru zoo is located at Jalan Gertak Merah, very close to the city center. This is one of the oldest zoo in the country, built in 1928 by Sultan Ibrahim, right in old palace ground.

This zoo is located in between the Johor Bahru Royal Museum and the beautifully structured Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque, facing the Strait of Johor just opposite Kranji, Singapore.

It was handed over to the local government in the early 1960s to manage and was rightfully opened to the public in 1962.

You can catch any bus that ply along the seafront or take a taxi or even a 15 minutes stroll to reach there.

The zoo covered an area closed to 5 ha consisting of more than 100 species of animals for the public to view. The entrance fee is RM2 for adult and RM1 for children. The zoo opens daily from 8am to 6pm and also during public holidays and school holidays

Endau-Rompin National Park is the 2nd designated National Park of Malaysia. And rightly so, as it contains the world’s oldest rainforest and the volcanic rocks there date 240 million years! It’s name is derived from the two rivers through the park; the Endau river in the south in the state of Johor and the Rompin river in the state of Pahang in the north. It also has some unique flora and fauna. It has some of Malaysia's best waterfalls namely Buaya Sangkut, Upeh Guling and Batu Hampar all within 2 hours trek of each other. Also you'll get a chance to meet the tribal people of Peninsular Malaysia, known as Orang Asli. The tribe that inhabits the park is known as Jakun.

A proper trip to see all the major highlights of Endau-Rompin National Park should take 3 days. Of course it's not hard to spend a week what with the slow pace of life and very calm waters and forests. For the adventurous, you can go there by yourselves. Johore - Pulau Aur

Pulau Aur is located 65km east of Mersing, off Johor's east coast.

The island, along with Pulau Dayang, Pulau Lang and Pulau Pinang, are rated among the best diving destinations within the Johor Marine Park Area. The deeper waters around the area ensure good visibility and variety of marine life. Dive trips can be booked at most dive shops on any of the islands.

The rich pelagic action also attracts numerous sport fishermen, hoping to try their luck with the marlins or sailfish outside the marine park island. Many private yachts anchor at the calm waters between Pulau Aur and Pulau Dayang.

Rayner's Rock

Towards the north-eastern tip about 200 metres off Pulau Dayang is Rayner's Rock, a solitary large boulder breaking the surface about 4 metres high.

Diving is good around the eastern portion with a mixture of both hard and soft corals providing shelter for a profusion of marine life. You can expect to encounter schooling yellowtails, rainbow-runners, and trevallies. Closer to the reef, there are usually groupers, damsels, butterfly fish, scorpion fish and lots of shells.

Pinnacles

This submerged reef is located towards the South Pulau Aur and Pulau Pinang. The top of the reef begins at about 12 metres and slopes in excess of 25 metres.

If diving in right conditions with slight currents, a large number of prelagics including jacks, fusiliers, barracudas and black tip sharks can be sighted. Among the hard corals and scattered soft corals are wrasses, puffer fish, damsels, lionfish, snappers and in between rocky crevices, lobsters.

Getting There

There are boats to the island from Mersing jetty or Sedili. The long boat journey takes about 4.5 hours, and most operators opt to depart in the late evening, travelling through the night to arrive the next morning on the island. If the seas are rough, the boat ride could take a little longer.
