For river cruise lines like AmaWaterways it is only 5 staterooms (10 guests). You would be amazed how quickly you get a group when you just ask your friends and family if anyone wants to join you.

Making it out of the houses is only the beginning, with four new scare zones expanding the siren’s eerie empire. From a petrifying pier to a toxic wasteland, experience the shadow-stalking fears that lie around every corner and reimagined frights all through the night.

For thrills alongside chills, guests can soar to death-defying heights on fan-favorite attractions such as Manta, Mako, Pipeline, and Ice Breaker. Guests can quench their thirst for fear at a fiendishly interactive bar or feel the monstrous electricity of a live show.

Howl-O-Scream 2023 features 5 haunted houses, 7 scare zones, more coasters and more unexpected frights than ever before—making it a can’t miss experience for haunt fans and thrill seekers alike. SeaWorld Orlando’s Howl-O-Scream runs select nights from September 8 to October 31.

New Hair-Raising Houses and Slashing Scare Zones

Guests will begin their journey venturing beneath the surface of the sea in the all-new “D3LER1UM666 Laboratories.” Surrounded by the near-infinite depths below and expansive oceans beyond, peer into the darkness that engulfs an inescapable research headquarters before time runs out.

Transport to the arctic terrain in pursuit of Frost, captured following her frigid fame and frostbite-ridden touch. Follow the smoke of Frost’s fiery twin, Flame in the brand-new house, “BENEATH THE ICE – The Meltdown,” soon to be the hottest rescue attempt ever made. Once free, there is nowhere to run. Prepare to freeze or burn.

Drift through gruesome gators and ghoulish gravestones of the Louisiana Bayou in “DEAD VINES: Nawlin’s Nightmare.” Guests’ will trespass on Hex’s hideaway, feeling her wrath and wicked witchcraft while evading the jaws of her horrific home.

Alongside these brand-new additions are the returned of reimagined classics like “Captain’s Revenge: Drowned in Darkness” and the fan favorite “Blood Beckoning.”

Guests can face their most frightening fears and scariest spooks in three brand new scare zones. Trek through a lethal landfill of mutant creatures, humans, and even plants hungry for a fright in the all-new “Toxic Turmoil.” Amid the chemical chaos are surprises in store – not everything is as it seems or as it was. 

If escape from infection was easy, do not be so fooled by the brand new “Blood Light District”, a borough known to tempt the faint of heart. The beauty and beckoning of their inhabitants are a curse, binding victims in bond and blood. Completing the cauldron of chills is the unveiling of “Carn-EVIL Pier.”

Fun transitions to fright in the cloud of the night as freaks, barkers, and demented clowns’ welcome guests to the show. Step up to the plate, but there is a lot at stake! Appearing alongside these new nightmares are fan favorites “Portal of Passage,” “Frozen in Terror: Alive in the Ice,” “Witchcraft Bayou,” and “Terrors of the Deep.”

Returning Fan Favorite Shows and Bloody Bars with Frightening Foods

The Howl-O-Scream experience would not be complete without SeaWorld’s darkly entertaining, high-energy shows like the haunting “Siren’s Song.” Be immersed in the story of the iconic Sirens as they feast on the fears of even the toughest of travelers. Howl-O-Scream’s fantastic frights would be incomplete without the spectacular share of bites and flights. Returning for the event’s triple threat is the “Longshoremen Tavern,” where the longshoremen are dying to entertain those who enter their doors. A few scare zones away is the restoration of “Siren’s Last Call,” a hideaway for the Siren’s followers and home to the signature drink The Siren’s Kiss. Alongside the specialty bars are frightening food offerings like the Vampire Burger, Bloody Rids, Dead Flesh, and The Ofrenda.

Death Eaters at Wizarding World of Harry Potter

As darkness falls, an ominous presence will fill the land as the Dark Arts begin to take over the streets of Diagon Alley. Guests will come face-to-face with Death Eaters from September 1 through November 4.

This interactive live entertainment experience puts guests face-to-face with these fanatic witches and wizards. You may see them as they roam through London, lurk their way through the cobbled streets of Knockturn Alley, and challenge guests to join the Dark Lord.

I get nervous thinking about seeing Death Eaters at Knockturn Alley. Super creepy!

These Death Eaters are devoted followers of Lord Voldemort known for their allegiance and practice of the Dark Arts. They will appear and eerily roam and lurk throughout Diagon Alley.

Dark Arts Merchandise

Guests can also shop new Dark Arts themed merchandise featuring the Dark Mark during their visit to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You can find Dark Arts mugs to make your Butterbeer in a Mug recipe. You will also find hats, lanyards, tees, and even a Death Eater mask.

This experience is created in partnership between the visionary teams at Universal Creative and Illumination. Guests of all ages will step into the beloved world of the Minions franchise as you blast your way to super villain stardom, savor flavorful fare courtesy of the Minions, meet some of their favorite characters and so much more.

One of our favorite things to do in Minion Land is Villain-Con Minion Blast. This is the newest ride experience at Universal Studios.

Located at the entrance to Minion Land, Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast blends immersive sets, interactive game-based technology, custom animation and an original storyline to create a one-of-a-kind blaster attraction. You can put your villainous skills to the ultimate test!

Upon entering the attraction, you will immediately be transported to Villain-Con. This is the largest convention for villains around the globe. At the headlining event you will find a challenge to see who has what it takes to become the newest member of the notorious super villain group, the Vicious 6.

As you make their way through the convention, you’ll venture through the trade show floor, stocked with the latest gadgets, vehicles, and fashion to pull off the most heinous schemes. You will then arrive to the “E-Liminator X” blaster area. You will pick up your blaster to complete against other guests.

Throughout the competition, you will use your blaster that is equipped with Freeze Rays, Banana Bombs, and Explosive Nunchucks to cause as much mayhem and destruction as possible to earn points.

The whole experience is on a moving platform. You literally stand on your spot and it moves you through the ride. You can shoot in both directions.

During your experience, you’ll encounter each member of the Vicious 6. These characters are voiced by the original cast from the film:

• Belle Bottom (voiced by Taraji P. Henson) is the cool, confident leader of the Vicious 6, in a groovy disco.
• Stronghold (voiced by Danny Trejo) is named after his giant iron hands in a museum filled with tons of fragile and priceless art just waiting to be destroyed.
• Nun-Chuck (voiced by Lucy Lawless) is a fierce warrior with prized nun-chucks who will travel aboard her flying organ as she challenges guests to create musical mayhem.
• Jean Clawed (voiced by Jean-Claude Van Damme) is outfitted with a giant mechanical lobster claw – in an evil, underwater lair filled with hidden loot and robotic sea creaturesand 
• Svengeance (voiced by Dolph Lundgren) is the roller-skating champion with spiked skates, in a floating roller derby filled with blimps, jumbo-trons, and speed-skating robots.

Villain-Con Minion Blast will also be the first Universal Orlando attraction to feature a connected gameplay experience via The Official Universal Orlando Resort App. By syncing your blaster to the app with just a tap, contenders can take their game to an entirely new level and track their scores, embark on special missions within the attraction, unlock evil perks and extra powerful blasts to help them gain more points and earn digital collectibles.

The more guests play and the higher they score, the more perks and bragging rights they’ll earn. Plus, this digital experience connects to the visitor’s Universal Guest Account within the Universal Orlando app – unlocking a deeper connection that enhances their in-park experience and sets the stage for even more digital-to-physical world benefits.

Kelly and I spent some time at the new Super Nintendo World at Universal Studio Hollywood in California. We love this new section of Universal Studios. We are excited to share tips and tricks that we learned during our time at Super Nintendo World.

TIPS for Super Nintendo World

Arrive Early

As you can imagine, Super Nintendo World is SUPER popular. This area of Universal Studios Hollywood is also small and can get crowded quickly. We recommend arriving to Universal Studios Hollywood at least 30 minutes before park opening. This will help you beat some of the crowds.

Buy a VIP Tour

One of our favorite tip is buy a VIP Tour for your day at Universal. A VIP Tour is a group tour that takes you throughout Universal Studios Hollywood. You get front of the line access on rides and shows throughout this park. This includes Super Nintendo World.

The reason why we love a VIP Tour is because you get front of the line access on the new ride at Super Nintendo World called Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. During our VIP Tour, the wait was 200 minutes. With our VIP Tour, we rode it 8 times in a row (without a wait). We love the VIP Tour! It is worth it for a visit to Super Nintendo World.

Book a Reservation for Toadstool Cafe

The only restaurant in Super Nintendo World is called Toadstool Cafe. This restaurant is a quick service location. However, you do need a reservation. We loved the food at Toadstool Cafe. It was creative and delicious. Click here to learn more about the food at Toadstool Cafe.

Once you arrive to Super Nintendo World, you can scan the QR code to make a reservation. These reservations book up quickly. I tested it out and found that you do not need to be at Universal Hollywood to make a reservation.

I got up around 8:00 AM on the day we were visiting Universal Hollywood and book a reservation from the hotel room. There was plenty of availability, so I picked a time best for us. Keep in mind that you can only book same day reservations. Click here to get access to this link to book your reservation.

Buy Power Up Bands

There is so much more to Super Nintendo World besides dining and the ride. Unlocking hidden levels is the key to unlocking a whole new level of excitement and challenge. To take advantage of these challenges, you need to buy a Power Up Band. You can buy these at Super Nintendo World or the Super Nintendo World merchandise shop at Universal CityWalk. We actually bought ours at this gift shop, before our day at Universal Studios Hollywood.

You will add your Power Up Band to the Universal Studios Hollywood app. This is how you track your Nintendo character and points. Throughout Super Nintendo World, keep your eyes peels for question mark blocks (yellow blocks with a ? on them).

You will tap the question mark blocks (with the Power Up Band) facing up to get points. These points are added to your team character like Mario, Luigi, or Peach. Your goal is to help your team get in the lead. You can track your team and individual scores at kiosks throughout Super Nintendo World or on your Universal app.

Universal Hollywood App

As I mentioned earlier, be sure you download the Universal Hollywood app to your phone. Add this app to your phone before you leave home or your hotel. You will use this app a lot during your day at Universal Studios Hollywood.

You can track wait times on rides, virtual queue for Super Nintendo World (if they have a wait), dining reservations, and tracking your Power Up Band progress.

Get Keys at Super Nintendo World

One of the secrets of Super Nintendo World is the virtual keys. Throughout Super Nintendo World there are four challenges. Every time you complete a challenge, a virtual key is added to your Super Up Band. If you complete (3) challenges, you will get (3) virtual keys. This allows you the opportunity to shadow box Bowser Jr.

This is a secret entrance that is actually guarded by a team member. Once you arrive to the entrance, you have to scan your Power Up Band. If you have all three keys, you are granted entrance into this tunnel and secret entrance.

Once you get inside, you get to shadow box against Bowser Jr. and it is really cool. We did it both days we were at Super Nintendo World. It was a lot of fun!

I am sure you are wondering, what are the challenges?

Thwomp Panel Panic

The first one is Thwomp Panel Panic. This one is usually the least crowded and is a fun one for the whole family. You have a certain amount of time to turn all of the boxes to the same color. Turn them all yellow or all of them blue. You can do this activity as a team which makes it more fun and easier.

You must have a Power Up Band to participate in this activity. After you complete the challenge, everyone will scan their Power Up Band. This will grant you one virtual key.

Koopa Troopa POWer Punch

This next challenge was a bit harder. I saw many people miss this challenge. This one also has a long line, because it looks really cool. For this challenge you hit the POW block right when a turtle shell knocks over a Koopa Troopa.

While you wait in line for this ride, you can watch for the timing. Hopefully, you will get it by the time you get to your turn. For this challenge, everyone does it individually. A Power Up Band is also required for this challenge. Once you complete it, you will tap your Power Up Band for another virtual key.

Goomba Crazy Crank

This next challenge is an easier one, so perfect for younger children. There is a crank that you just spin. I saw a lot of younger kids and older adults rock this one. It is much easier than the other challenges. As you spin the crank, the goal is to knock Goomba off the spinning wheel. The key to this one is just keep spinning until they tell you to stop. A Power Up Band is required for this challenge. Once you complete this challenge, you scan your band for a virtual key.

Piranha Plant Nap Mishap

This challenge was Kelly’s favorite, because of the HUGE Piranha Plant. This thing is massive! This is another group challenge, so perfect for families. You and your party tap the clocks to keep them from waking up the Piranha Plant. This challenge will have you running around and laughing! This one is a bit easier, since you are doing it as a group.

Once you have (3) of the four challenges complete, you can take on the Bowser Jr. challenge.

Super Nintendo World is one of our favorite theme parks around the world. We spent most of our time at Universal Hollywood in this section. We love the dining, ride, and challenges. It was so much fun for the whole family. We hope these tips help you on your next visit to Super Nintendo World.

Beach Lover

Are you a beach lover? If you plan to spend most of your time soaking up the sun, the months of June-August are the best for you. These months offer the warmest water temperatures. The temperatures averaging around 80°F. It’s the perfect opportunity to swim, snorkel, or simply relax on the pristine sands of Hawaii.

Hawaii Culture

One of the reasons we love Hawaii is the culture or the Aloha Spirit. If you are looking to soak up the Aloha Spirit, visit during cultural festivals and events. This includes the Aloha Festivals in September and the Lei Day Celebration in May. You can enjoy traditional performances, taste local cuisine, and partake in festivities that showcase the vibrant spirit of Hawaii.

Trade Winds

Besides the temperature, you also want to consider the trade winds. Many of the hotels sit right on the water. I often bring a light jacket or sweater, due to the trade winds. The windy month is July with winds up to 16 mph. The trade winds run from June-September.

Best Month to go to Hawaii for Crowds

The best month to go to Hawaii for crowds is another thing to consider when planning your trip. Hawaii tends to attract more visitors during the summer and holiday seasons. This can lead to crowded beaches, longer wait times for attractions, and higher prices for accommodations.

If you prefer a more tranquil and serene experience, it’s worth considering the shoulder seasons. This includes spring or fall. Also try to visit during the weekday vs the weekend. Many California locals head down to Hawaii for the weekends. Avoid those crowds by visiting during the weekday.

Best Month to go to Hawaii for Price

Hawaii can be a super expensive destination to visit, especially with a family. Planning your vacation around less popular times of the year means cheaper prices. Let’s talk about the months to avoid at all cost. This are summer and holidays. Basically, anytime the kids are out of school avoid Hawaii.

Since kids are out of school over the summer months, so most families travel during this time period. This means sold out hotel rooms and busy islands. This is the same for holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas-New Years.

If you are looking for cheaper prices, you want to visit during two different time periods. The first one is March-beginning of May. I would avoid the week of Easter (before and after the holiday). This holiday time period will be more expensive. The 2nd best time to visit for price is September-early November.

These are not as popular times to visit, so fewer crowds and less expensive prices.

Illumination’s Minion Cafe

We are super excited about the Minion Cafe. The Minions are in the kitchen! LOL! You know there will be mischief in the dining room and lots of tasty food. This immersive dining experience offers something for every palate. This dining experience features three themed areas designed by Minions Kevin, Stuart, and Bob and Otto.

In The Kitchen, you will get a glimpse of the equipment and gear the Minions use to whip up the cafe’s menu. In the Breakroom, you where see where the Minions’ break space is located. This includes the “Office Safety Tips” and a vending machine filled with mischievous items. Finally, the Dining Room is a vibrant space with colorful artwork courtesy of the Minions. You can enjoy your meal on an outdoor patio that overlooks Minion Land.

The menu at the Minion Cafe is incredible! There are nearly 20 menu items inspired by the Minions and Despicable Me. Some of the menu items include:

Ready for a sweet treat in Minion Land? The quick service spot called Bake my Day will feature sweets in a whimsical retail location. You cannot miss Bake my Day. Just look for the massive pink cupcake! You can find Minion inspired sweet treats like cupcakes, macarons, s’mores and more.

In the retail shop, you can find Minion merchandise like apparel, plush, drink ware, accessories, keychains and more.

Pop-A-Nana

How about some banana flavored popcorn? Yes, please! This walk up spot features sweet and savory popcorn. Including banana flavor! You can also find an assortment of cute popcorn buckets. One of the most popular will be the Minion Selfie bucket.

Freeze Ray Pops

Another cute spot in Minion Land is the Freeze Ray Pops. You can cool off with a colorful variety of popsicles. These pops are inspired by Gru, the Minions, and Vector.

Illumination Theater

One of my favorite spots in Minion Land is the Illumination Theater. You can meet, greet, and interact with your favorite characters from Despicable Me. You can meet Minions, Gru, Margo, Edith, and Agnes. You can also meet some of the characters from the hit film “Sing.” This includes Rosita, Gunter, and Johnny.

In addition to these spots in Minion Land, you will find lots of murals and photo ops. Have your camera ready, because there are lots of spots for pics throughout Minion Land.

For the little ones, Royal Caribbean’s award-winning Adventure Ocean Youth Program is a must-experience. The Aquanauts (ages 3-5) can embark on treasure hunts, create art projects, and even participate in science experiments. The Explorers (ages 6-8) can enjoy an array of games, sports, and themed parties. And for the older kids, the Voyagers (ages 9-11) can join in on dance parties, scavenger hunts, and even learn circus skills.

Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas offers an abundance of activities for the whole family to enjoy together. One of my favorite memories is on the carousel on the Royal Caribbean ships. A new area on board the Icon of the Seas is the Surfside. They have a cute ocean themed carousel. Your whole family will love this carousel.

For a more thrilling experience, why not enjoy some quality time in Thrill Island. This water park area has (6) record-breaking waterslide. Everyone in the family can cool off and have a splashing good time. There are (7) pools on the Icon of the Seas to just relax and unwind.

In the evening hours, your family can enjoy Broadway-style shows. For the little ones, the ship offers a complimentary drop-off service at Adventure Ocean. This allows the parents time to enjoy the ship’s bars, lounges, or even the casino.

Dining Experiences on Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas

Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas has something for everyone. The ship offers a wide variety of dining options that cater to different tastes. Every member of the family can find a meal they will enjoy. With 20 decks and 8 neighborhoods, you can amazing dining experiences for the whole family.

One of the favorites for families is the buffet called Windjammer Marketplace. This buffet-style restaurant features an extensive selection of dishes from around the world. They even have a kids buffet for the younger ones. Enjoy can enjoy fresh salads, grilled meats, seafood, and delectable desserts. The Windjammer Marketplace is ideal for families with children who might have specific dietary preferences or picky eaters.

We are excited about the new restaurant called Surfside Eatery. This restaurant was created with families in mind. Surfside Eatery serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Your kids will love the pancake with chocolate chips for breakfast.

One of our favorite shows on board the Royal Caribbean ships is the ice skating shows. The Icon of the Seas has a new ice skating rink called Absolute Zero. This circle ice skating rink is the biggest ice arena at sea. Your can skate as a family during the day. In the evening you enjoy spectacular shows in the evening hours.

Kids’ Clubs

One of our favorite parts of a Royal Caribbean cruise is the built in babysitting!

The Kids’s Clubs on the Icon of the Seas are designed to provide a safe and fun environment for children of all ages. The Kids’ Clubs offer a variety of age-appropriate activities and games that keep children entertained and engaged throughout the day. From arts and crafts to sports and movies, there’s something for every child to enjoy.

Teens even have their own space with a teen hangout called Social 020. This gives your teen an opportunity to meet other friends from around the world. Our kids always love experiencing the teen clubs on cruises.

Water FUN

Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas is mind-blowing for water fun. This ship has (7) pools, a splash park, and waterpark. The splash park is located in my favorite new area called Surfside. This area is all about families! You will find the carousel, kids’ clubs, teen club, arcade, climbable Playscape, and Splashaway Bay splash park. Parents can even grab a drink to enjoy at the nearby restaurant.

The older kids will love water park called Thrill Island. This water park has (6) thrill-seeking waterslides. The most exciting waterslide is the Frightening Bolt. You stand patiently as the floor hatch opens and you plunge down the tallest waterslide at sea. If you have any thrill seekers, this is the slide for you! We love the other slides and tube slides in Thrill Island. They are fun, but not quite as scary. LOL!

Crown’s Edge

A new activity for family fun is the Crowne’s Edge. This obstacle course is right outside the huge Royal Caribbean logo. You will strap in and step onto a walkway (outside the ship). Before you know it, the floor beneath disappears and you zip line high above the ocean.
