Moovur is a Joomla! extension that incorporates the Mollom anti-spam service in your Joomla! site and provides protection against spammers. Moovur provides protection of a Joomla! core installation but as with Joomla! it is incredible extensible so new options can be added very easy. To use Moovur you need to register to the Mollom service. Mollom comes in two flavors, a Mollom Free (and limited) subscription and Mollom Plus (paid) subscription. The Moovur extension can be downloaded for free.

Both Wilco Jansen and Anthony Ferrara from the Moovur and Joomla teams will be talking in Vegas at Friday's classes and Saturday's conference.

Anthony, now 25, was brought up with computers. His father, a former developer for AT&T, taught Anthony how to program from a very early age (some accounts are as early 4 years old). He decided to take a break from computers after high school and studied mathematics in college. He has a diverse background including a private pilot's license, EMT, and is a state-certified firefighter. He now is a professional PHP developer who believes in the power of open source and community involvement.

Louis, 28, of New Orleans, Louisiana, works in Web development and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Louisiana Tech University. His first experience with computers was playing on a 286 with Basic at his father's office. Louis has programmed in many languages, ranging from low level x86 assembly to managed languages like Java and scripting languages like PHP. He was a founding member of his university's robotics team. Louis is a car nut, and enjoys working on them in his spare time.

Leslie Hawthorn

Leslie Hawthorn is a Program Manager for Google's Open Source Programs Office, where she's the Community Manager for the Google Summer of Code community. She recently conceived, launched and managed the Google Highly Open Participation Contest, the world's first global initiative to get pre-university students involved in all aspects of Open Source software development. Leslie has also organized more than 100 open source conferences and hackathons, most held at Google's Corporate Headquarters in Mountain View, California, USA. When not wrangling FOSS developers, she's usually speaking about Open Source, FOSS in education, and community building or writing for the Google Open Source Blog. Prior to joining Google, Leslie got her feet wet in Silicon Valley high tech at a small communications semiconductor startup, where she worked in Marketing and Public Relations. She holds a Honors B.A. in English Language and Literature from U.C. Berkeley and her personal website is http://www.hawthornlandings.org.

There'll be a Pizza, Bugs and Fun event where everyone is welcome to come and sit with Joomla's lead developers. We'll sit down with a stack of pizza to test and improve parts of Joomla.

Beginner's Classes

These classes are for people with little to no experience of Joomla. Together they will provide you with a very solid and comprehensive introduction to Joomla.

Joomla! Day Agenda

According to Wikipedia: An unconference is a facilitated, participant-driven conference centered around a theme or purpose. The term "unconference" has been applied, or self-applied, to a wide range of gatherings that try to avoid one or more aspects of a conventional conference, such as high fees and sponsored presentations.

Joomla!Day

Our Joomla!Day unconference will be centered around our wide range of speakers available and will be driven by our attendees. Our speakers will not be tied to a set agenda, but will be given the freedom to answer the questions that the attendees bring to the event by giving sessions tailored to those topics. Our speakers will be able to give sessions on any subject in the Joomlasphere, in a round table setting and make sure each attendee gets the maximum knowledge out of the day. Our focus will be our attendees and what they came to learn about.

Organizing the Sessions

The day will be faciliated by Allen Gunn (known as "Gunner" around the FOSS circles), an experienced unconference manager from the West Coast. Gunner will be organizing the sessions and ensuring that the day runs smoothly and our attendees get the sessions they ask for. The day starts by addressing the group and listing the topics they want to cover. Gunner's job is to match those topics with the best speakers.

About the MonteLago

The MonteLago has several unique attributes that make it the perfect location for our event. The non-gaming hotel tower we've blocked for our out-of-town attendees is a peaceful respite from the glitz of a hotel-casino.

The hotel itself has beautiful studios with kitchenette, and reasonably priced suites. Each room has free high speed (wired) Internet for all guests.
