Everyone should make sure to update to this version as soon as possible.

There was a simple exploit which allowed viewing and editing of other projects tasks and eventually critical information. However, this was only possible under certain curcumstances.

JoomlaPraise Joins IE6 End of Life Movement

We are officially joining the Joomla! Template Developer movement to end Joomla! support of IE6. Rockettheme, one of (if not THE) biggest Joomla! template clubs has just posted their announcement that they'll end support of IE6 by January 1st, 2010. Here's some highlights from his post:

Let's face it, Internet Explorer 6 has had a heck of a run. It was originally released on August 27, 2001 just before the release of Windows XP...Microsoft has now released version 8.0 of it's Internet Explorer product, and even though it stills falls short...IE6 has long had a reputation of being a security risk...including critical ones are left un-patched...due to features that are just not available in IE6, designers often have to sacrifice design elements or layouts entirely just to ensure that IE6 viewers are not left with a big mess...By January 2010, this percentage should be around 6-8%. With the introduction of Windows 7 this fall, this percentage could be even lower...

[Read Andy's full post here]

To add to his thorough post, I wanted to put supporting IE6 in Joomla! terms since we're all Joomla! folks here:

Released in 2001, IE6 is the equivalent of the very first version of Mambo. Would you want your website running the first release of Mambo? Would you want template and extension developers to have to invest time to accommodate for that version of Mambo? I'm sure the answer is "Hell no!". Heck, most wouldn't/shouldn't want developers to allow for Joomla! 1.0.x now. Any web developer that never upgraded their customer's website from that release of Mambo would be fired, just like employees that haven't upgraded their computers using IE6, it's just not secure or up to standards. IE7 should be the browser to be on the chopping block, since IE8 has been stable since March 19, 2009. IE6 should just be a painful distant memory. Again, think about this in Joomla! terms. When Joomla! 1.6 stable is released, users will immediately look into upgrading from 1.5 to 1.6. IE is the only software (besides Windows) that's forced developers and end users to support 3 totally different versions, that's just ludicrous!

Rockettheme, JoomlaBamboo and JoomlaPraise will be joined by most (if not all) the other Joomla! template developers in ending support of IE6 for Joomla! Hopefully other CMS's such as Drupal, WordPress, Plone, etc. will take notice and follow suit.

Here Comes the Bride - WeddingPraise Template Released

We are excited to announce another new template has been released today. WeddingPraise is a mixture of the same simple design and flexible code that you have grown used to in our products, along with a flair of beauty that reflects the purpose and passion behind the event. We've made it possible to add several third-party extensions as well, while keeping the design as fluid throughout as possible. Here are some of the features that you'll get when you decide to use WeddingPraise.

If you take a look at our demo site you will see that the home page doesn't use the core Joomla content manager, but rather uses a great new extension from JoomlaWorks called K2. This extension provides a great way to transform your Joomla site from a mainstream content management system into a blog, directory, knowledgebase, portfolio, catalog and so much more. Paired with WeddingPraise you can use K2 to create a Wedding Chapel Directory for your local area, a photo gallery or even to tell your visitors a bit about the Bride and Groom. The possibilities are endless, and with the styling that we've applied to the system, you will always have content that looks great.

The template has also been optimized to work fluently with our PraiseSlides and PraiseMenu Modules and comes with 17 module positions, three unique themes and plenty of ways to customize the template within the parameters.

Go ahead and try it out and tell us what you think. Once you're finished with your website, put a link to it in our Showcase Forum so that we can see what you've done!

PraiseFolio Template and Extension Released

Last week we released our latest bundle of goodies to our members that includes both a beautiful template and a customizable component. We call it PraiseFolio, and we hope that many of you will find it useful for building and maintaining your portfolio websites. We'd like to think that you will be using this for all sorts of projects, whether it be a site to showcase all of your latest photo shoots or you just need a place to share your love of illustrations with the community. With the power, customization and ease of use that JoomlaPraise releases are known for, you can be sure that this is a great product.

Take a few minutes to check out our demo of the PraiseFolio Template, and you'll see the beauty in it's simplicity and customization opportunities. We've packed this template full of module positions, parameters and three slick color schemes to get you started on your way to building a great portfolio. By using this template you'll get the three standard layout options, and of course if you're feeling lucky you can easily modify the code to customize the site even more without too much of a hitch.

While the template makes everything look good, it's the PraiseFolio Component and Modules that set this bundle off from others. Order your portfolio by tags, menus, and layout options. If you like the default view, you can stick with that, or make a few changes to the configuration and you'll end up with a totally new way of seeing things. Tags allow you to group different items together for easy navigation through a large portfolio. But you don't have to fight your way through code to put these new tools on your site, use one of two different modules (with three different views) and get back to what your portfolio is all about - you and your skills!

Oh yeah, and when you're done building your site, be sure to stop by our Showcase Forum so we can see what you've created with this template and component team.

A pop-up window that doesn't suck

I am currently working on a new project for Joomlapraise called "Praisefolio". Praisefolio is a simple to use Portfolio component for Joomla. For this component I wanted a nice JS Lightbox script to display various portfolio images and I started off with the default lightbox that comes with Joomla.

After some time I found that the Joomla lightbox was too limited in it's functionality and visual appearance. So I searched the web and tried out several new scripts until I got stuck with "Greybox" made by Orangoo - a lightweight script(22kb) with lots of functionality, stunning appearance and great performance in all major browsers.

To share this handy tool more easily with you, I've made a Joomla plugin that let's you use Greybox instanstly in your content items, modules, components and templates. Have fun :)

The worst part about Projectfork

As you probably know by now, Projectfork 2.1 is in development and I have all sorts of new features and enhancements planned. Having all this is new stuff is certainly nice, but what I really want to achieve is a "better" Projectfork in terms of usability. So I might have to turn a few things into another direction, tweak features here and there to get it right. And this is where I ask you: What is the worst part about Projectfork?

Please take a moment to place your vote and leave an additional comment about what you dislike about the current system. I am prepared for heavy (productive) criticism :-)
