We're excited to announce the prerelease of K2 version 2.0.0.

Download it now at: http://joomlaworks.googlecode.com/files/K2-2.0.0_PRERELEASE_j15_UNZIP_FIRST.zip (http://joomlaworks.googlecode.com/files/K2-2.0.0_PRERELEASE_j15_UNZIP_FIRST.zip)

K2 has been re-written from scratch and it's now PHP 4 and 5 compatible, fully translatable via Joom!Fish, includes its own K2 plugin system to further extend the extra field features, user ACL, simple com_content import tool and a lot more.

VERSION 2 FEATURES

nested-level categories (no section/categories problems here!)

	comments with ReCaptcha anti-spam integration

	tags

item image (useful for articles/catalogs) created in 6 different width values so you can have leading, primary, secondary and link items, modules and articles all using a different image width, thus truly flexible for modern news portals and more

improved support for image galleries and videos

	attachments with download tracking

	user profile pages (fully extensible)

user groups with specific access to specific categories of content - ACL features all the way for true multi-author environments. You can even create a default user group and have all new users added into this group upon their registration.

refined extra fields UI, now it's easier to understand what you need to input when creating such extra (custom) fields to extend the item form.

	Ajax-based frontend editing

Module acting as user toobar (mod_k2_login) - user sees related info about their account and depending on ACL permissions, links to add/edit content

Everything is fully translatable with Joom!Fish (content elements will ship with the proper release for v2 in a few days). The same module includes a user login form so you can fully replace Joomla! login module.

Module for comments can fetch the latest X comments from all or specified categories, with many layout options included as standard

Module for comments can fetch the top commenters in your site

Module for content can now fetch the X items from all or specified categories, with many layout options included as standard

Module tools gathers the features you will mostly set only once in your site like a K2 breadcrumbs bar, archive list by months, category list (a la menu), category drop-down, blog-style calendar, tag cloud... Most can have their output filtered per all or specified categories

2 plugins enable the underlying syncing of K2 with Joomla's users, plus they extend the user registration/edit forms of Joomla! to add the profile fields for each user as supported by K2

Search plugin for K2 included so you can have Joomla! searching in K2 as well

Joom!Fish plugin to work magic on translating extra fields without any modifications to Joom!Fish!

K2 v2 is based on thousands of code lines and almost a year into development.

WHAT NEXT?
A proper release is scheduled in the coming days and it will additionally include:

sample data for K2 showcasing all features

	completed CSS stylings

one installer for everything (component will install along with 4 modules and 4 plugins)

	slightly improved migrator

an example K2 plugin so that developers can see the potential in using the K2 plugin system to extend the item, category and user forms.

We encourage you to try out this pre-release as it's fully functional and wait a few days until the proper v2.0.0 release is available.

We will be working hard with the devoted people on the newly formed K2 team to deliver high quality documentation very soon.

More soon ;)

JoomlaBamboo releases Elevate2 - new template featuring SuperBlogger!

Anthony at JoomlaBamboo (http://www.joomlabamboo.com/) has done it again! Elevate2 (http://www.joomlabamboo.com/joomla-club-templates/june-2009-joomla-template-elevate2), the JoomlaBamboo June 2009 template release, features a lovely minimalistic design aimed for creative people. It's also an ideal template for blogging and we're happy that Anthony has chosen SuperBlogger (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=56 Itemid=42) for that!

I quote an excerpt from the official release at JoomlaBamboo:
Following our popular Elevate template comes Elevate2. Artists, healers, alternative service providers (in fact, anyone seeking a simple, uncluttered interface) will be drawn to this beautiful template.

Elevate2 is a tableless Joomla 1.5 template that makes it easy to manage, grow and internationalise your shop, blog, portal or gallery. It comes with a custom template for the amazing new blogging plugin by JoomlaWorks called SuperBlogger, a reworked version of our jTweet module and two new modules. The prettySlider gallery module will have your images sliding and fading in no time, while the captifyContent module will display site sections and categories like nothing before.

Subtle, smoky backgrounds and hinted borders unite with 46(!) module positions to create a serene yet powerful package to delight your target audience.

Visit the Elevate2 demo site (http://showcase.joomlabamboo.com/jun09/).

template overrides and the ability to process images server-side and you got a real Wordpress contender, if not better in some areas!

SuperBlogger's features can easily be set in the plugin's parameters,

has had a very warm welcome from the Joomla! community. Everyone
talks about this super component which brings into Joomla! the missing
elements that made people choose Wordpress or Drupal.

We believe
it's the right time for K2 to grow. But growth for an open source
project is difficult if no one -aside the supporting company-
contributes in some form to it.

So we have decided to assemble a small team of people who will contribute to the project and help make it bigger.

So we have decided to assemble a small team of people who will contribute to the project and help make it bigger.

At the moment we're looking for people to contribute in the following areas:

Documentation
Help
write the documentation guides for K2. Contributors should have
adequate writing skills and of course be proficient in the English
language.

K2 Forum Support
Moderate topics and support
users in the K2 forum. Contributors should be acquainted with how K2
works and of course what it can do. If you know K2 inside out from a
user's perspective and have the time to help out others, join here.

Translate K2 to your languageNot all websites are published in English. A key ingredient to the success of any project is internationalization. Help K2 by translating it to your native language.

K2 Joomla! Extension Developers
K2
is much like a CMS within the Joomla! CMS. Regular Joomla! plugins get
parsed just fine within K2, but modules are constructed differently and
need to be adapted so they can fetch content for K2. Think of a
UCD-like module, an article rotator, a cool tag cloud with flash or
some other functionality which can utilize K2's content. If you have
the right knowledge, get in touch with us as we have plans for a K2
extension directory very soon. If we all coordinate properly, we will
be able to produce more quality extensions for K2.

If
you are interested in joining the K2 team and help the project grow,
use this form to send us a short bio of yourself and where you'd be
interested in helping out. (index.php?option=com_contact task=view contact_id=6 Itemid=)

Simple Image Gallery PRO v2: Redefining image galleries once more!

We're pleased to announce the immediate release of the much anticipated Simple Image Gallery PRO v2. Performance improvements, new features, new tricks!

This major release is a free upgrade to all existing customers of Simple Image Gallery PRO. If you've already bought a license, you may login to PDS and grab you copy now.
We're pleased to announce the immediate release of the much anticipated Simple Image Gallery PRO v2.

This major release is a free upgrade to all existing customers of Simple Image Gallery PRO. If you've already bought a license, you may login to PDS and grab you copy now.

WHAT'S NEW IN V2?- First of all: Improved performance in the thumbnail generation and caching engine. Generated thumbnails are now created faster and stored in Joomla's cache folder. If Joomla! is operating fine in your site, you will not face any weird permission issues again (usually spotted on crappy hosts).

- 10 popup engines (!) for ultimate style and compatibility with various frameworks. Includes 2 engines supporting slideshow mode and our brand new popup engine SimpleBox (soon to be released as standalone). Proper checks will make sure that Mootools is not loaded multiple times in Joomla! 1.5. Popup engines utilizing jQuery will download the latest library version minified from the new Google AJAX Libraries API service, which means faster load times for your website and your gallery.

- 4 templates (2 brand new) to showcase your galleries. Better still, it's easy to create your own now. Just copy one of the existing template folders, rename it, change the CSS and the plugin parameters will see the new folder created. So you can easily select and use your new template!

- Labels (captions) are extended to include title and description. If you enable labels in the plugin parameters, the labels.txt file is auto-generated for you to make the process of publishing your image galleries faster than ever before! You can now use full HTML code inside the label descriptions. Backwards compatibility has also been kept, so your previous galleries will work smoothly.

- My personal favorite: Select to fit or zoom thumbnail images to the available thumb dimensions, regardless of image size. The first option will shrink images no matter what dimensions they got to fit the thumbnail dimensions. The second one will zoom a portion of the thumbnail so you can have a gallery of images with varying dimensions displaying as if they were resized in a professional program like Photoshop. That means either tall or wide, your images will be displayed in the dimensions you specify for your thumbnails. See a demo of this feature here. (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=45 Itemid=34)

- You can select to show or hide a download link for the original image in the lightbox-like popup

- Large images can be resized in the popup window, when their dimensions exceed the ones of the browser window (see PrettyPhoto, SimpleBox etc.)

- You can choose to load a module position in the popup window, for banners or other cool integrations!

- New extended syntax for more flexibility: use for example mygallery:200:140:0:2 to instruct SIG Pro to:
a) fetch the images inside the mygallery folder
b) resize them to 200px width and 140px height
c) display the gallery in normal mode (not in single thumbnail mode)
d) create and use labels.txt file inside the mygallery folder, ready for you to edit

- Simple debug mode to help us provide better support. This feature will steadily be part on all our extensions, either free or commercial.

Please note that documentation has moved from the plugin parameters to our website. Documentation for v2 will be up within the coming day.

WHAT NEXT?v2 includes many enhancements in the background which will enable us to make it the best gallery extension for Joomla! by far with the addition of: subtemplating for your galleries and a component to quickly create, organize and insert them inside your Joomla! articles. We're already preparing these for v2.1 - which will come sooner than 1.3 got to 2.0.

More about the new Simple Image Gallery PRO features in coming blog posts here, at the JoomlaWorks blog.

This new version is an essential upgrade for your site if you're using our latest uber component, K2 (http://k2.joomlaworks.gr/), as it extends K2's forms to playback videos.

We have also updated the internal Longtail (former JW) media players (for Flash and Windows Media content) to add new functionality (e.g. embed and link features) and improve performance utilizing the latest Flash and Silverlight codecs for media playback.

So, head over to our frontpage and download the update. Upgrading is very easy, as all you need to do is simply uninstall the old version and then install the new one.

WHAT IS K2?K2 is a content construction component (similar to CCK for those acquainted with Drupal), which lets you easily create any content type for your Joomla! website. Using K2, you can transform your Joomla! website to a news/magazine site with author blogs, product catalogs, work portfolio, knowledge base, download/document manager, directory listing, event listing and more, all this bundled under one component!

FEATURESK2 is extensible with additional fields to its base content form. That means you can add as many content fields as you want and create category-specific content items, e.g. article, blog post, product page, directory listing. K2 offers as standard: nested-level categories (no section/categories problems here!), comments, tags, item image (useful for articles/catalogs), galleries, videos, attachments, user profiles, ajax-based frontend editing and more!

REQUIREMENTS - LICENSEK2 has been developed for Joomla! 1.5 only, as it takes advantage of the MVC features of 1.5's API. That means flexible templating for designers and total separation of data and content layout.

If you wanna utilize the built-in gallery and video features, you need to install Simple Image Gallery (Free or PRO) 2.0 and AllVideos 2.5.4 (coming on Friday, March 20th, 2009).

K2 is also PHP5 only in the beta release. We're making every effort to soon release a PHP4 compatible version too.

K2 is developed by JoomlaWorks and licensed under the GNU/GPL v2 license.

WHAT NEXT?Try K2 out! You'll discover a whole new way of creating websites with Joomla! 1.5. K2 is a full com_content (Joomla! core content component) replacement, in the sense that it provides you with the tools to start building a flexible and correctly organized website without the need to use Joomla! articles.

Moreover? You no longer need a dozen of components and even more modules to do things like run a news site or a blog. Drupal and Wordpress have certainly met their match now! ;)
