were you able to get tickets for the either of the conan shows? ticketmaster isn't saying that the dates are sold out, but i keep getting a "no exact matches were found" message for both dates and i just selected 2tix/any price..... boo. :-(

What a bummer. I was going to get 2 tickets too when I got home — but I guess that’s out of the question. Seems like a hot ticket I guess. We should tell them to Ustream it and write a blog post afterwards.

That didn’t work out too well for #140tc. :)

Tumblr Charging $1 for Something Amazing?

What are they planning? The Tumblr community is always seeking recognition, which was evident when they launched Tumblarity, the Directories, Tumblog Tagging, etc. Everyone wants to be noticed and heard — that’s the whole point of blogging, right? I know I do.

We’re seeing glimmers of revenue generating models popping up from the Valentine’s Day program to the $9 promotion in the directories — and I’m guessing partnerships with larger organizations also provide a bit of cash flow as well. Now, after reading Fred Wilson’s blog — Tumblr seems to have a $1 thing that I would be happy to pay for. What is it though?

What would people pay $1 for on Tumblr?

- Advertisements on other tumblogs (creating an advertising network)?
- Featured placements throughout the site?
- Paying larger tumblogs to reblog posts (hope not)?
- Avatar add-ons shown on the dashboard?
- Tumblogs creating custom e-gifts to sell to their community?
- Allowing users to upload 1 song per day?

Question: What do you think Tumblr will be charging $1 for?

Microsoft Coming Back Strong with Courier

For the first time in a while, I’m kind of excited to see what’s happening in Redmond. From watching the innovative TED Talk about Bing Maps to the new Windows Phone 7 Series — everything seems to be pointing positive for them in terms of innovation (however small it may be in comparison to it’s size).

Another product I’m pretty excited for is Courier — their challenger to Apple’s iPad. Microsoft’s key strength is software and it’s something I think they’ve lost site of. Although, after watching this video they seemed to have thought this through. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but it’s exciting that they’ll be shipping later this year — not years from now. I can’t say how many times I’ve seen “concepts” come out of Microsoft to just only disappear.

I already know I’m not going to get the first version of the iPad, so it’ll be interesting to see more details about Courier like price points, features, etc. Looks like 2010 is the year of the tablet?

Another Cool Chrome Extension - Rapportive

The first Chrome extension that made me say wow was Extension.fm. Basically what it does is copies all the locations of the songs found on blogs and puts them in a nice iTunes like fashion right on your desktop. It’s genius and I use it everyday.

Now, today I found out about this new extension called Rapportive from David Lifson’s blog which made me do a double wow! I don’t know what the details are, but it basically finds all the social information for the people you e-mail and shows it right in your Gmail or Google Mail (if you use Apps). Instead of looking for Twitter accounts and Linkedin profiles for the folks you’re connecting with — it does all that for you and presents it right then and there. It’s genius and I think I’ll be using it everyday. :)

Ignite Seattle 9 - Enlighten us, but make it quick:

I’m pretty excited about Ignite Seattle 9 tonight at the King Cat Theatre. They’re charging $5 this time around, but I think that’s definitely worth the price of admission. I’ve been to several Ignites in the past and they’ve always been funny, informative, and a lot of fun.

Bloom Energy Will Change the World

Bloom Energy claims it will change the world, and for some reason — I hope it does. Maybe I’m an optimist. They’ve already gotten $400 million dollars in funding and have already enlisted top-tier companies like eBay, Google, Staples, Walmart, and FedEx as their first customers. With that clout, I think they may have a shot.

I just love the story behind this, where the founder was creating a project for Mars and when Mars funding ran out it was scrapped. The best part is that he took those scraps and turned it all around into Bloom Energy. There’s a ton of hype around this hard to believe fuel cell, but the founder feels it’ll be in all of our homes in a decade.

For some reason, I don’t think that will happen. I’m putting bets that the energy companies buy it and replace their power with Bloom Energy to power their grids. That’s my guess.

Question: Have you heard of Bloom Energy and should you even care?

Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics: Broken Social Scene!

Broken Social Scene plays a secret concert in the Ontario House at the Vancouver Winter Olympics 2010 (with special guest Feist). After missing out on watching the short track speed skating, we stumbled onto a line at BC Place and happily found out the line was for the band. Awesome concert!

After playing their encore, the crowd brings them back for one last song as a karaoke session - “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” by U2.
