Flourless (sprouted grain) Bread

We’ve been eating sprouted bread for almost five years now and have seen the price increase from 2.99 to 4.99 and with our family also doubling in size it started to take a pretty chunk from our grocery budget. I had looked into making sprouted bread for a while, but it seemed too complicated, or required equipment I didn’t have until I came across these instructions. It’s a three day process but it’s worth it since we’re now paying a little over a dollar per loaf for the ingredients, awesome!

Ingredients are 3 cups of hard red wheat berries, salt, yeast, and honey, that’s it!

Since we always post just the kiddos, I thought I’d put up a few pics of us that actually turned out decent. Yes, shot with the old extended arm trick. Those are always the best for some reason.

It was on our trip down to Florida - SolidWorks World 2009 Conference - the first two are at the Swan and Dolphin Resort where we stayed and the last one is Epcot center.

Dolphin Hotel in the background and us chillin at the beach on the Swan side. We were the only people out there for the most part. Nobody got sand in there eyes.

This might be after one or two frozen daiquiris and a bowl of melon. It’s over by the pool where Sebastian got his first go at trying to taste kiddie pool water.

Epcot at the future side where those water jumpin’ things are. Sebastian was more interested in the people playing around. Isabella was getting a kick out of everything.

Sebastian Doorway Guitar

Occasionally, if you’re lucky, you’ll catch a small boy named Sebastian sitting in a small chair, with a small guitar, singing a small song about big things.

The guitar only has four strings and is constantly out of tune. Still, he finds words to put against the ‘chords’ coming out.

Here’s my entry for Illustration Friday… that I didn’t submit this time. This is a closeup detail of it. I’m not sure I like the entire image. It kinda creeps me out. (See below.) Maggie is working on a painting with a bird in it…. looks much less menacing that this little green robot guy.

Menu Plan Monday

I’ve been trying to stay consistent in planning meals for the weeks since Isabella was born. It’s not an easy thing for me for some reason, but without it I end up spending more time at the grocery store than my two year old would like to. So here’s my first time posting, and if you would like some serious meal planning inspiration check out orgjunkie.com.

There’s one new recipe we’re going to try for the week, the flax seed cracker pizza, we’ll see how it goes

Monday: Chicken stir fry with brown rice.
Tuesday: Bunless burgers with sweet potato oven fries, and green beans
Wednesday: Flax seed cracker pizza, salad
Thursday: Ground beef and bean burritos or just on salad.
Friday: Beef roast with onions and carrots, quinoa pilaf
Saturday: Left overs

Isabella… Looking Back

After seeing the post for Isabella’s birthday, I realized we haven’t posted much in the way of her (or much else) over the past year. We’ll change that by catching up with a few pics/highlights from 2008.

Superhero Tea Party Birthday

Isabella had a rockin’ party to celebrate her first birthday.

…in attendance were the (in)famous superhero’s the incredibles(grandma), superhero without a name (grandpa), the white equine (tio Jake), the blue scarob (tio Eric), and others not pictured were the cowboy toothbrush dispenser man (dad), Super brother Sebastian, Tia Jessica, and mom (which decided not to reveal their superheroicness).

Food consisted of spicy hot fajita chicken paired with homemade guacamole, corn chips and a homemade carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting to top off the celebration.

The celebrant ended the soiree with the opening of many lovely gifts, and a little singing and dancing.

Love you so much sweet little girl.

Isabella 8 months old.. and a Pumpkin Patch

October 21, 2008… another beautiful fall afternoon. Isabella is now a whopping 8 months old. We thought it would be appropriate to go down to the local pumpkin patch to celebrate by posing her and her brother amongst the variety of hay and seasonal gourds.

The princess of the pumpkin patch. (seriously, the cutest baby there, fer reals)

We did everything except paint them orange…

And then there was the horse ride. Sebastian was an old hat at this from the previous year. He showed Isabella how it’s done (nvermind that he got a little anxious at first.) Hola Caballo.

Yeah, a little cowboy, don’t ya think? Then, it was time for Isabella to ride.
