Welcome to the world Jeffrey David! This little guy is so cute, and he apparently has no interest in sleeping. This is Jeffrey at two weeks old. I don’t know if this is common but Jeffrey can almost hold himself up when he’s on his stomach. He’s also not bad at holding his head up. And he makes a mean martini. Pretty good for a newbie! Maycen & Her People | Decatur Family Portrait Session

Oh MAN, this is a handsome family. Nicole and Joey are the coolest, and that Maycen, man she melts my heart. We found some great spots in downtown Decatur, and I think we were all pretty tough considering how cold it was! Have I ever mentioned before how much I dislike winter? Well I do… Maycen was being so shy, and I just thought it was adorable. Apparently she loves that teddy bear and always carries it and chews on that one ear. Is that not the cutest thing ever? I did my best clowning for Maycen, and I think it made Joey and Nicole laugh more than it did Maycen. I sang the Elmo song like a hundred times. I was still singing it later that night. Haha… Can’t wait to shoot with y’all again! Enjoy!

Emily, Alex & Caleb! | East Atlanta Family Session

Hardly anyone takes me up on my suggestion to shoot first thing in the morning when the sun is rising.

When Emily and I were emailing to set up this session and I told her I thought super early in the morning would be a great time for us to shoot, she was like, “Dude, how early are we talkin’ here?”

I said, “Not that early–if we’re shooting by 7:30am or so, we should be good.”

“Oh, that’s totally fine,” she said.

I thought she was just being agreeable so when I got over there at 7:25am I didn’t expect that they would all be dressed, looking great, bright-eyed and ready to go. I should’ve known getting up early wasn’t a big deal to them, though: Emily’s dad is in charge of like the entire Marine Corps or something. [Possible slight exaggeration.] Plus, they’ve got a 5 month old. How much sleep could they possibly be getting anyway?

The light in the morning was just fantastic, just perfect, and we had a great time. The thing I love best about Emily and Alex is that they seem like such good pals–I think that’s a really big deal. He can make her laugh so easy, just like that. They just seem really good together. I love couples like that.

And how freaking cute is Caleb!? Right??? Seems like just yesterday we did his newborn session….

Brodie, Finn, Gail & Dely | Piedmont Park Family Session

Brodie and Finn! Gail and Dely! I’ve gotten so attached to these wonderful people, and I look forward so much to our sessions together. The boys are growing up so fast, and it’s amazing to see how much they’ve changed each time I see them. And Gail and Dely are expecting a little girl in the new year! So cool. I pretty much wanted to post every picture from this session, but I tried to show some restraint. Enjoy!

Shannon & Marco’s Roswell Rehearsal Dinner | Amalfi Ristorante

You can’t imagine how hard it was raining the night of Marco and Shannon’s rehearsal dinner. It was raining to eleven. Know what I mean? Inside the cozy, down-to-earth Amalfi Ristorante in Roswell, however, the only things wet were the drinks. [Can I just take a moment to acknowledge that for some reason I'm writing this intro as if I were writing a gossip blog. Why? I'm in a mood. Moving on.]

Shannon and Marco’s rehearsal dinner was so fun, and their families are so loving and welcoming. These are just a few of my faves from the night. Hope you enjoy!

Shannon & Marco | Atlantic Station Engagement Session

I loved this session with Shannon and Marco. Number one, they were up for all of my schemes for this shoot. They trudged all over Atlantic Station with me, wore mustaches and fake lips, chewed bubble gum for bubble pictures, and held still while I took a 44 shot panorama of them on that bridge. Not one complaint. Pretty cool.

We all had a pretty great time. I love being around people who are in love. Who doesn’t? All the best wishes for a long, happy life together to Shannon and Marco. Enjoy!

PHOTOGRAPHER NERDOUT NOTE: The bridge panorama I took below is a 44 image panorama stitched together in Photoshop. It was inspired by the incredible work of Ryan Brenizer. He perfected this method of doing panoramas with people. It’s called The Brenizer Method, and it’s really challenging and fun. Here’s a great tutorial to get you started if you’re interested in learning how to do it. Let me know if you have any questions about how to do it!

Eric Litwin | Atlanta, Inman Park Portrait

I’m such a huge Eric Litwin fan. Eric is the author of the best-selling Pete The Cat children’s books. He’s totally rad.

For our shoot we headed out in the Inman Park neighborhood of Atlanta and found some great spots. At the end when we were on that bridge Eric recited the entire story from his soon-to-be-released Pete The Cat book. I don’t think I’m supposed to say what it’s about, but it was pretty awesome.

Freud’s Last Session | Theatrical Outfit

You guys have to check out Theatrical Outfit. Seriously. I’ve been working a bunch lately with this awesome theater company, and they are blowing my mind. Now showing there is the longest running off-broadway play, Freud’s Last Session, which has just been held over until November 13th due to massive popular demand and the fact that the play and what these guys have done with it is just completely wonderful. The play is two brilliant men, Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis, talking about love, sex, the existence of God, and the meaning of life. How do you say no to that?

I shot preview and production photos for the play and wanted to share a few with y’all. But really, do your best to get tickets to this show. It’s fantastic and you’re so cool, you really do deserve a night of culture. Enjoy!

2011 AICP Awards | Woodruff Arts Center, Shout!
