Unforgettable Magical Thirst Green Moment in Heineken Thirst at Sepang International Circuit!

Over 20,000 pairs of hands flew up in a sea of light at Heineken Thirst on Saturday, 14 December at Sepang International Circuit! For an instant the massive Heineken Green Stage was bathed in the glow of thousands of individual smartphone screens as the crowd showed their appreciation for a line up of some of the leading talents in the dance music industry.

For Heineken Thirst, it was our largest talent roll call so far. Global EDM superstar and pioneer producer David Guetta. Afrojack, W&W, Madeon, Nervo, Example, R3hab, Goldfish & Blink, XU, Bunga and BATE spread across two massive stages: the Green Stage and the Star Arena.

“What really sets the bar for Heineken Thirst is the custom-built festival site, the bars and VIP areas that reflect our commitment to creativity, excellence and progressive new music experiences,” comments Jessie Chuah, Marketing Manager of Heineken Malaysia. “This year, that experience literally unfolded before the eyes of the crowd. From the moment our consumers entered it was clear they were embarking on a journey inside the world of Heineken Thirst.”

An enormous gateway greeted them as they entered Heineken Thirst. From there the Green Stage dominated the festival site. Unfolding like a sail, twin towers on either side of the stage established the origami design concept on which the rest of the festival site design was based. Those reflective sails added texture, depth and drama to the Green Stage, which helped to drive the performances by David Guetta, Afrojack, Nervo, Goldfish & Blink and BATE to new Heineken Thirst heights.

That same origami theme also defined the architectural innovation of the Green Stage’s VIP area. An effervescent mix of triangular sails, LED screens and lighting reimagined this VIP enclosure as a bold installation statement. Inside the VIP zone, stage-viewing areas, chill-out enclaves and comfortable cubbies were offset by the indigo glow of the UV lighting, which brought the Heineken Club Bottle, a VIP exclusive, to vivid life.

Designed by graphic designer and renowned installation artist Matt W. Moore, the limited edition Heineken Club Bottle was launched for VIP and Heinesuite guests at Heineken Thirst before a wider release in some of Heineken’s flagship outlets across Malaysia. The aluminium bottle features a variation of Moore’s signature vector-funk graphics and is inspired by the innovative origami design ethos Heineken showcased during Milan Design Week, which is reflected throughout the Heineken Thirst festival site.

In daylight the bottle appears to feature a frosted geometric pattern featuring a signature green star. In the UV ambience of the VIP Area at Heineken Thirst, a new story began to emerge. Hidden in the folds of that frosted geometry and activated by the dark lights, the Heineken Club Bottle adopted a new personality of startling fluorescent greens and blues, creating an immediate talking point amongst the 1,500 VIP guests.

The edgy Heineken Club Bottle and its design philosophy also provided the inspiration for the ultimate in festival luxury. With pole position to watch Heineken Thirst’s Green Stage, the six luxurious Heinesuites were the ‘place to be seen’. With individual bars, elegant serving staff and space to dance and talk at the very heart of the night’s excitement, the Heinesuites are set to become a new benchmark for festival entertainment in Malaysia!

The unfolding layers were also mirrored in the design of the towering Heineken bars across the site as well as the Star Arena. Taking cues from some of the world’s leading international festivals, the Star Arena literally projected itself into the crowd, with a series of cascading screens that became both lighting sources and sources of visual inspiration on a stage headlined by W&W and with incredible moments from the likes of Madeon, R3hab, Example + DJ Wire, XU and Bunga.

On the subject of moments, this year the festival featured a brand new spectacle. In-between Nervo and Afrojack, Heineken Thirst unveiled a new star attraction – the Thirst Green Moment. From the booming intro that stunned the Green Stage crowd into silence, to the multi-level visuals and choreographed lasers and pyrotechnics set to a specially commissioned music track, the Thirst Green Moment wowed an astonished audience and introduced a new sensory experience to Malaysian festivals.

There were numerous other highlights of this Heineken Thirst. The sea of hands and phones during Goldfish & Blink’s rousing set. The rush to the Star Arena for Holland’s W&W. The raw energy of the ever-prowling Example. The style of Nervo. The abrasive power of Afrojack. The interplay between the DJs and EDM celebrity snapper Rukes. Then, the sheer, polished perfection of David Guetta, a man who can comfortably command crowds of every size anywhere in the world.

Most of all, there were the thousands of unifying, unique and individual experiences of the people who come to Heineken Thirst, who help to define it and separate it from other music festivals.

And it’s a Heineken Thirst debut for Brains and The Eye (B.A.T.E.), the hotly tipped duo who topped JUICE magazine’s Best New DJs of 2012 poll.

If Heineken Thirst’s Green Stage is the main event, the Star Arena is where you go to see the superstars of tomorrow as well as to experience some of the more eclectic tangents and talents that dance music produces. Headlining the Star Arena is W&W, the Dutch duo that is a confirmed favourite with Malaysia’s outdoor music fans. Mixing trance and EDM in equal measures, this dynamic pair is highly ranked by artists like Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto and Sander Van Doorn, as much for the crowd-pleasing potential of their tracks as for their own inspiring live sets.

R3hab

Yet another Dutch artist on this impressive Heineken Thirst line up, Holland’s R3hab has been identified as the next step in the evolution of the Dutch House genre pioneered by Heineken Thirst artists like Afrojack and Chuckie. He’s joined by UK EDM legend Example in a typically leftfield addition to Heineken Thirst’s Star Arena. One of the pioneers of the UK dance scene, whose sound has brought together the separate worlds of EDM, rave and grime, Example’s live show will bring a touch of UK street style to Heineken Thirst.

Madeon

Adding to the ‘you saw it here first’ vibe of Heineken Thirst’s Star Arena is the Malaysian debut of French nu-disco pioneer Madeon. A 19- year old tech geek, Madeon has a reputation for thrilling live shows. His love of new technology allows him to constantly break new boundaries as he attempts to redefine the role of the DJ.

XU needs no introduction to fans of Heineken Thirst. Last year he rocked the Star Arena with his LapSap partner DJ Blink. This year he brings his own rough-edged take on electro and EDM to the stage, this time solo. Expect the unexpected! Also flying alone from his Twilight Actiongirl cohorts, Bunga will open the Star Arena with an inspired take on the sundown set.

A Tour to Tan Chong Motor Assemblies in Serendah together with Nissan GRAND LIVINA Club Members!

Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) hosted a tour of Tan Chong Motor Assemblies’ (TCMA) in Serendah, Selangor. The half-day tour was exclusively for Nissan GRAND LIVINA Club members and gave them a rare opportunity to observe the assembly processes at the plant.

“We are glad to be able to offer this plant tour for our valued Nissan GRAND LIVINA Club members as this is a good opportunity for them to witness for themselves “the making” of the Nissan vehicles, the process and stringent quality control tests applied to each and every vehicle,” said Mr. Tan Keng Meng, Director of Marketing and Product Planning in regards to the plant tour by the Nissan GRAND LIVINA Club members.

Established in 2007, TCMA’s second plant based in Serendah, which includes a test-track, has continued to grow from strength to strength, adhering to the strict guidelines of the Nissan Production Way in its production. The plant was awarded the ISO 9001:2000 for Quality Management Systems (QMS) and ISO 14001:2004 for Environmental Management System (EMS) in 2009.

Currently, the plant has the capability to produce over 25,000 vehicles per year on a single shift and its capacity can be raised to 54,400 vehicles per year if the need arises. The vehicles currently assembled in this plant are the LATIO, LATIO SPORTS, GRAND LIVINA, X-GEAR, SYLPHY, TEANA, NV200 and ALMERA.

In addition to the plant tour, the Nissan GRAND LIVINA Club members were also taken through a briefing about the New Nissan GRAND LIVINA that was launched in September 2013. The Nissan GRAND LIVINA Club members were briefed on the core concept of the New Nissan GRAND LIVINA, ‘Drives like a sedan, fits like an MPV’, which sports a refreshed exterior and interior styling, along with more than 50 new enhancements.

The New Nissan GRAND LIVINA has undergone a total makeover from the front to back, with new bumpers, grille, headlamps, tail-lamps, side mirrors and alloys. The all-new design exudes dynamism, elegance, with accentuation of aesthetics and fine details that are pleasing to the eye.

A total of 40 Nissan GRAND LIVINA club members visited the TCMA Serendah plant. ETCM will further host another group of 40 Nissan GRAND LIVINA club members for this plant visit on the 9th November 2013.

The Arthritis Foundation Malaysia invites the public to a full day of informative workshops and activities on managing arthritis this October 12th!

World Arthritis Day, which is celebrated every year on 12th October, provides a platform for those affected by this medical condition to make their voices heard and to highlight some of the issues that people living with arthritis face.

In line with this year’s worldwide celebration theme which centralised on healthy ageing for people with arthritis, the Arthritis Foundation Malaysia (AFM) is organising a full day workshop on October 12th at SWAN Convention Centre, Sunway Medical Centre, Bandar Sunway for members of the public to empower themselves with coping steps and information on how to manage the disease effectively.

The workshop which begins at 9am till 5pm, will be see medical professionals covering topics which include the understanding of arthritis, joint replacement surgeries to using yoga as part of the arthritis intervention activity and sharing sessions by the arthritis patients support group.

'PUMA Evolution Of Suede: Living It Up For The Streets' Finale Party!

The Evolution of Suede reaches its peak with the collaboration with Raising the Bar. Sponsored by Tiger and Smirnoff, the Evolution of Suede Finale Party marks a grand celebration of the PUMA Suede’s 45th year in changing the game and the release of the Future Suede.

Held at Capsquare Hall, Kuala Lumpur, the event was graced by PUMA friends, like James Baum, Nadhira, Zain Saidin, DJ Anowl, Julie Woon, and personalities from the many different street cultures, here in Malaysia.

The night showcased the work of art of 30 artistic people whom envisioned the 2058 Future Suede and brought it to life. Attendees were also entertained with a night filled with music from the past and the present, as well as dance performance, and other interesting activities such as live graffiti and shoe designing by talented graffiti artists.

Mr. Dan and Shikara, two prominent personalities in the Malaysian hip-hop scene were the hosts for the evening. The night started off with an ‘Evolution of Dance’ performance by the winners of Showdown 2011, Elecoldxhot. The performance was full of energy and the routine presented the progression of the hip-hop dance scene from back in the days to its present form.

At the event, the top 30 designs selected from the 160 entries received for the 2058 Future Suede design contest were exhibited. Esmond Sit, a student of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology was the winner for the designing contest with his design which was envisioned from the idea that the Classic Suede will continue to lead the market, while the blue light emitting represented the evolution of the logo into the future, and at the same time, represents the technological adaptations of the products and beacon to light the way for its fans and consumers.

The crowd was entertained by a beatbox performance by Koujee, the winner of Malaysia’s Tag-team Beatbox Battle 2011, along with a DJ battle between DJ Fuzz and H3, and an MC battle between Mio and Micwrecka. The DJ battle and the MC battle is a representation of the past and the future, fitting with the heritage versus the future theme surrounding the campaign.

K-Town Clan took the stage with other renowned Malaysian hip-hop artists such as CLoco, Samir Da Joint, Lady D, Waris, and Juzzthin.

During the event, there was also a live graffiti by graffiti artist, Newba, as well as a live shoe designing by graffiti artists, Bee of PHBKLK, Iqbal of Fresh Kids, Carpet, Katun, and Nenok.

Three pairs of PUMA Suede were given out to three most creative Instagram posting with the campaign hashtags #ForTheStreet, #MY and @PUMA just before the event ended. The three winners were part of the Instagram contest that gained over 600 entries throughout the Evolution of Suede.

While the finale event may mark the end of the Evolution of Suede campaign, social media users however, can continue using the campaign hashtags on Twitter and Instagram to join in the global celebration and converse with other PUMA fans around the world. Over the weekend, more than 15,000 partygoers in the Klang Valley reveled in St Patrick’s festivities hosted by the World’s favourite black brew GUINNESS®. True to the theme of ‘March More Fun’, the 3-day citywide celebration of all things green started on Friday, 15 March and during the three day celebration, thousands ofGuinness fans came together to raise a pint in more than 60 outlets across the city centre.

The countdown to the official St Patrick’s Day was truly a spectacular one as Guinness, yet again, turned the streets of Changkat Bukit Bintang green! More than 5,000 people thronged the street of Changkat and enjoyed the festivities. Fettered by the presence of fancily dressed Stilt Walkers, Mime Artists, Jugglers, Irish Dancers, Drumliners, Guinness Bikers, St Paddy’s Caddies and beautifully made-up black and green denizens, the street was nothing less than a sprawling mini black and green village.

“Evolution of Suede” Launch Marks 45 Years of Metamorphosis

PUMA celebrates evolution with a party to mark the beginning of the future

Sportlifestyle company PUMA celebrates the Suede’s 45 years of evolution into a street icon with “Evolution of Suede” celebration at Black Box, MAP Gallery, Publika. The event is reminiscence of a hip hop street party and brings PUMA enthusiasts down a walk in memory lane on the evolution of dance and hip hop, with ample displays of the PUMA Suede.

With drinks sponsored by Tiger Beer, the evening brought together the hip and trendy, plus prominent personalities from the urbanite movement to bring fellow PUMA enthusiasts together and remember the age of street hip hop. Guests include Ben from Fly FM, Jin from JinnyboyTV, dance groups Elecoldxhot & Kartoon Network, and TV host, Rina Omar were seen enjoying the event together with other PUMA supporters.

PUMA also collaborated with Raising The Bar to bring the hip-hop vibe to the night. An MC showdown by DJ Fuzz and H3, along with a DJ showdown added to the hiphop atmosphere that relates to the history of the Suede.

An Instagram contest was held during the party where media and guests posted live feeds to the PUMA hashtag, #ForTheStreet, #MY, and tag @Puma on Instagram. Blogger Bok Chou Loong emerged triumphant with his creativity and walked home with a pair of PUMA Suede.

The Instagram contest that happened during the party is an ongoing contest to continue building the hype towards the finale party.

'Be My Valentime' Speed Dating Event Was A Success!

Well, last time we hardly heard about any singles match-making events in Malaysia. I don't know when or how this kind of event started to get popular here in our country...but it's already very common in other countries. Now I see there are getting more and more single match-making events being held in Malaysia. In fact, I ever went for a match-making event which happened last 2 years at Genting First World. Ok, I wasn't one of the participant though, I went there as a blogger. :D

Last few weeks, there was something quite different from the usual match-making events.
It's called 'Be My Valentme', a speed dating event held in Maju Junction Mall as mentioned in my previous post (http://joshualaw88.blogspot.com/2013/02/be-my-valentime-speed-dating-event-at.html).

It's actually an event where the guys and girls were having a series of short 3 minutes session with each others, yes...it's only 3 minutes for each couples, hence named as SPEED dating! At the end of each interval, bell will be rung to signal the guys to move on to the next dates and this series of face-to-face 3 minutes "date" is continued until the guys get to meet every single girls and vice-versa.

During the match-making, both the guys and the girls had to give a score to each other from a scale of 1-10, 1 being the worst and 10 being the best rating based on the first impression and 3 minutes of conversation with each others. The result was then announced and the chosen couples (most matching of course with highest score) were given special privilege to enjoy free hair & make-up makeover and also expense paid romantic dinner at Maju Palace!

At the very beginning, I thought Malaysians are quite conservative and rather sensitive to this match-making kind of things. But I was totally wrong! To my surprise, this event received a very good response from the public which resulted in the situation where the organizer had no choice but to select only a certain numbers of guys and girls out of many participants who had registered. The dating/match-making trend is 'invading' a rather conservative country like Malaysia as well! LOL~ Good thing!

I personally think this kind of match-making event is fun and pretty meaningful, especially for the singles out there who seldom have to the chance to make new friends. If you are so busy that you don't have time to meet new people, don't like to date clients or co-workers and are not interested in the bar/club scene, then this dating event definitely suits you! It's always good to make new friends in a FUN, SAFE and EFFICIENT way especially for busy professionals to meet in person! Trust me, is you are in that category of people, you will love it! ;)

The PUMA Suede: 45 Years Fresh This Spring-Summer 2013! #ForTheStreet

Music genres, hairstyles, and fashion fads come and go, but the PUMA Suede has evolved and grown as a true street icon for 45 years, and in 2013 its lite little brother, Future Suede, is born!

If only sneakers speak, the Future Suede has an amazing story to tell. Packed with great lineage and decades of cool, this newcomer, like its big brother, breaks the mold to a whole new level. Heavy on heritage but easy on the ounces, it comes at the right time when crowd surfing and club hopping requires the most minimal of baggage to be able to move at the speed of light.

The Future Suede retains the signature 1968 profile of the Classic Suede but that’s where all the familial looks end. It’s light on weight, light on suede, and has some serious futuristic tweaks: a lightweight bottom, painted midsole, and neoprene tongue. It’s decked out with PUMA Trinomic hexagons, heel clips, and eyelets. Not to mention a varnished tonal nylon and synthetic suede Formstrip for an all-over ultramodern aesthetic. It doesn’t take a teleport to another 45 years to know that this future will one day become legend.

Backtrack to 1968 when the Suede was ignited and worn by athletic greats such as the track’s Tommie Smith and basketball’s Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier. It rose to new levels of fame in the early days of hip hop, B-boys and funk beats in the 70s and favored by the New York City Breakers and the Rock Steady Crew who wholeheartedly adopted its sweet tread and smooth, classic look. As the underground music scene rose to the street surface, so did the Suede’s popularity. At B-boyism’s height in the early 80s, The Suede cemented its status as a cultural street icon even appearing in the 1984 movie “Beat Street.” It continued to become the footwear of choice by several sub-culture movements – street skateboarding, and the alternative music scene of the early 90s. Without a doubt, The Suede has rightly earned its place in public affection and in every Hall of Fame.

This Spring-Summer 2013, PUMA marks The Suede’s 45th year of changing the game and the release of the soon-to-be legend, the Future Suede, with a massive celebration through contests, events, exhibitions, TV, and digital activities across Asia-Pacific.

To celebrate its 45 years of rich heritage and to kick off the ‘Evolution of Suede’, PUMA is inviting their fans from all around the world to be a part of the ‘Evolution of Suede Instagram Contest’. This contest calls for the public to post pictures of their personal collection of the Suede, a photo of a favourite street icon, or the design of the Suede for the future on Instagram. Either way, with the hashtag #ForTheStreet, fans can become part of the timeline with other fans, worldwide. PUMA fans can also take pictures with iconic props available in PUMA outlets. The contest will start on the 18th February 2013.

The arrival of the Future Suede also calls for an interpretation of the Future Suede in the year 2058. With the Suede template provided, 30 top designs submitted to PUMA will be selected and exhibited. The designing contest will begin on 18th January 2013, to 1st of March 2013. A winning design will be selected to win the grand prize of PUMA products worth RM2,000, 2 VIP passes for the PUMA Evolution finale event, and meet & greet with artiste at the event.

McDonald’s kicks off nationwide weekend charity drive to benefit more than 60 local charity homes!

With the ‘Prosperity Gives Back’ campaign now into its third year and in conjunction with the 20th Anniversary of the Prosperity Burger, McDonald’s kicked off A Weekend of Sharing to raise proceeds for more than 60 local charity homes on 19th and 20th January 2013. Over the next two days, RM1 will be donated to the ‘Prosperity Gives Back’ campaign with every purchase of a Prosperity Meal.

At the McDonald’s Kota Damansara Drive Thru, the mood was one of Joy, in line with the 10 values that McDonald’s holds dear. ‘PROSPERITY’ is Happiness, Friendship, Love, Satisfaction, Peace, Abundance, Sharing, Family, Affection and Joy! It's a good opportunity for caring Malaysians to enjoy their favorite peppery treat in happiness and joy with loved ones while spreading and sharing prosperity with those who are unfortunate.

Malaysians were out in full support for the charity drive, as they queued patiently to place their orders for the Prosperity Meal with PGB spokespeople Leya of HotFM, Phat Fabes of Fly FM and Nicholas from OneFM, plus celebrity volunteers such as 8TV Quickie hosts Julie Woon and Megan Tan, as well as violinist Dennis Lau and actress and singer Chelsia Ng.

To help foster the spirit of Prosperity Gives Back, McDonald’s has made available a microsite last December, where Malaysians can share true, heart-warming stories behind their experience of the 10 Values of Prosperity. Selected stories will be published in leading newspapers to be shared with Malaysians in February 2013.

When the campaign was first introduced in 2011, RM286, 000 was raised and distributed across 44 charitable organisations. In its second year, RM395, 828.80 was raised and distributed across 52 local charitable organisations. This year, McDonald’s aim to reach out to more than 60 charity homes throughout Malaysia and raise as much as funds as possible, with the support from caring Malaysians.

With the beginning of the new year 2013, Malaysia party goers are lucky enough to have one of the tremendous and sound-bashing "WE LOVE ASIA" party at Sepang International Circuit, Kuala Lumpur with the presences of 7 well known artists & DJs from every corner of the world!

On 19th and 20th January 2013, this two wild days event featured the international world-class artists such as Redfoo of LMFAO and the Party Rock Crew, Taio Cruz, Yolanda Be Cool, DJ Antoine and DJs like Steve Aoki and Joachim Garraud and they did an awesome job storming the awesome crowds on the floor and heat up the atmosphere at Sepang!
