The 2010 Newport Beach Film Festival kicked off its 11th anniversary this past Thursday night with the World Premiere of Five Star Day. The movie marked the feature directorial debut for Orange County native Danny Buday. journeyPod caught up with Michael Damian to chat about his new film, Flicka 2. We also chatted with Frank Kelly, who's film 140 was inspired by Twitter. And finally we got some inside scoop on the documentary, The Wall, from film maker Ricardo Martinez.

The festival runs through Thursday, April 29 so if you're headed to the OC, be sure to stay at the Fairmont Newport Beach. It's where all the celebs stay! journeypod was court side in Hermosa Beach as Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers won their unprecedented fourth consecutive AVP Hermosa Beach Open on Sunday.

Top-seeded Dalhausser and Rogers beat second-seeded John Hyden and Sean Scott, 18-21, 21-15, 15-9, in the final.   After capturing the win in Hermosa Beach, Rogers is playing with Shaquille O'Neal against two-time gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Sunday for a taping of "Shaq Vs." If Shaq lost the match he swore to run down the beach in pink Speedo!

Shaun was in town to tear up one of the biggest and baddest skate parks in the world- The Black Pearl. He also had a chance to teach the kids some tricks as you can see. Shaun is a jetSetter himself and he shares some of his favorite spots on the island and abroad.

This small beach-side town is loaded with shopping, restaurants, bars, and clubs.   The best "local" dessert is mango sticky rice, or kao neaw ma mung. It's delicious and fattening! And try the Pad Thai at Ao Nang Cuisine.

Beachfront in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara lies on the West Coast of the United States, 92 miles north of Los Angeles and 332 miles south of San Francisco. The area is famous for its beautiful beaches, most of which lie along a unique south-facing stretch of coastline that affords beach visitors sun all day long and greater shelter from winds and surf. But there's far more here than beaches. Not to miss spots include: Front Street, the Santa Barbara County Historic Courthouse, the Santa Barbara Mission.

Santa Barbara is a very walkable city. You can get everywhere you need to go via foot, the trolley, or public transportation! journeyPod actually took the train—gotta love Amtrak—from Los Angeles. After two hours sipping a nice bottle of Pinot we brought along, the train stopped in the center of downtown Santa Barbara. We walked about seven minutes to our hotel—Hotel Oceana Santa Barbara. Held at venues along the stunning San Diego waterfront, the Festival was a sizzling five-day festa that offered attendees everything from cooking classes with celebrity chefs, to wine tastings with Master Sommeliers, to a Reserve Tasting aboard the Hornblower's Inspiration, and the Final Grand Event --where over 800 wines were poured.

journeyPod caught up with some of the movers and shakers at the festival. We spoke with the Chef of the Fest from 2007, Chef GT, for some real inside scoop on what it is like to be "Chef of the Fest." We went fly-fishing in the Provo River (and yes we actually caught lots of fish!), we enjoyed a sunset horseback ride on the property through the woods, we hiked to Stewart Falls waterfall, and then relaxed with local music at the resort's Owl Bar.

Cat grew up in Mississippi and so she uses some Southern cooking styles in her own dishes. She also relies on her Greek upbringing to blend in wonderful Mediterranean flavors. And of course her culinary training in France with 3 star Michelin chefs.

Morimoto left Nobu to start his own restaurants. He was the original Iron Chef Japanese on the first Iron Chef programs in Japan.
