London - A Vibrant Metropolis

One of the world's most remarkable and exciting cities, London carries with it a blend of history, ground-breaking architecture and a way of life that's created an amazing and constantly evolving destination. London is a vibrant metropolis that embraces the diverse cultures of its population - reflected through its cuisine, shops, music and festivals - a place where the historic past and the pulsating present come alive each and every day. Think Charles Dickens and Shakespeare of years past meet the cutting edge culture of today.

Despite its population of over 7 million, more than 30% of London is made up of parks and green space - greater than any other city of its size in the world. Home to Britain's national art collections, the Royal family and a host of major attractions, London's rich history (and over 200 museums) offers travelers a unique experience. The city also offers some of the best shopping opportunities in the world - from major department stores (you have to check out Harrods) to designer boutiques and street markets, the choices here are incalculable. And as if that wasn't enough, London is also pretty darn hard to beat when it comes to nightlife. There are immense choices in restaurants (over 6,000), pubs, cinemas, theatres and nightclubs - not to mention, live music and comedy venues.

So, at any time of day, whatever your mood - London has something for everyone. Whether it's shopping like the girls from "Absolutely Fabulous" or watching the latest music talent bloom in front of your eyes. London is home to great musical giants like: Coldplay, Pink Floyd, and a little band we have all come to know and love: The Rolling Stones. Whether you are strolling along the streets in Windsor, buying art in Notting Hill, celebrity spotting in Piccadilly, riding the London Eye for the spectacular views, or trying to spot Prince William downing a lager in Chelsea- the possibilities are endless here. No spot is the same. And remember, you can take the tube each day to a new stop, just don't forget to "mind the gap" when you do.

Visit journeyPod for the scoop on things to do in London. journeyPod has information on the trendiest restaurants and bars, hip nightlife, and luxury four-star hotels around the world, with a regular travel podcast highlighting events and destinations around the globe.

Barcelona - Sizzling Mediterranean Style

Before we give you the lowdown on one of our favorite cities in the world, we have a few tips to pass along about Spain & Barcelona in general:

Spain is known for its amazing food, tapas (little bite like appetizers), and vino tinto (red wine). Spain also has friendly people, fashionable women, and all night parties at the clubs and bars.

So you must get on Spanish time ASAP if you truly want to experience their culture and nightlife. They do not eat dinner until around 10pm and they do not go out to clubs until after midnight. You go home when the sun comes up. You sleep for a few hours. You eat a big lunch around 2pm. Naps are allowed in the afternoon, but usually around 6pm. And the cycle continues. You can see why Hemingway hung out here quite a bit.

The people in Barcelona are very proud to be Catalan as well as Spanish. They speak with a tiny accent that is different than other parts of the country like Madrid. So do not get discouraged if you cannot understand them and learn the phrase, "Repitan mas despacio por favor" (please repeat a bit slower).

And now...on with the countdown! Visit journeyPod for the scoop on where to go in Barcelona!

San Diego - Quintessential West Coast

All About San Diego

Click here for our hot picks.

Voted best year-round weather in the world, San Diego is home to the almost eternal sunshine (without Jim Carrey's "Spotless Mind"). It is never too hot and never too cold in California's second largest city. The blue skies here keep watch on the 70 miles of beaches and the area is bordered by Mexico, the Pacific Ocean, the Anza-Borrego Desert and the Laguna Mountains. With so much beachfront and plenty of cultural diversity spanning a variety of neighborhoods, you'll find everything from alternative and casual Pacific Beach to glitzy La Jolla; nonstop action in the Downtown Gaslamp Quarter to the "laid back" come-as-you-are Mission Beach district.

Surfing, skateboarding and beach volleyball have been cultivated in Southern California, so it's a definite way of life and very much a part of the San Diego culture. In this city, there are more lineups (groups of surfers waiting to catch waves for all you posers) in the water, than clouds in the sky. You'll also notice that the carefree attitude of the surfer crowd spills out from the ocean and in to town - and it's infectious, so roll with it!

With its great weather, miles of sandy beaches and major attractions, San Diego is known as one of the best tourist destinations. From thrilling ocean adventures to chilled-out siestas under the palm trees, this city has a way of schooling folks on a new way of life - one brimming with fun and beauty, among other things.

Located on the Pacific Ocean and with close proximity to Mexico, San Diego restaurants are recognized for and boast some of the West Coast's finest seafood and authentic Mexican fare. A number of other cuisines and dining options can also be discovered in the various neighborhoods throughout the city - spanning from Asian and Italian, to German and Californian Nuevo. So, whether you're craving a filet mignon or a fish taco, these journeyPod Picks will help you find a place to match your mood and style. Stay Classy San Diego!

Miami - Party 'Til Dawn

All About Miami

Miami is crazy and that is what's so great about it. From the drag queens to the Latinas to the models and fashionistas, Miami & South Beach are just ridiculous. Ridiculously loud. Yes, we had to put in our ear plugs in the Armani store so you can imagine how much louder it really is in the clubs. Ridiculously fun. Yes, you can wear black leather pants here and nobody cares. Yes, when you dance on the tables you fit in rather than stand out.

Nonstop nightlife (nobody goes out here until 11 PM at the earliest and most pros won't get caught dead at a bar until 1 AM), beautiful people (models may shoot in NY or LA, but they live here), blue skies, turquoise water, and pastels should come to mind when you think about Miami. Art deco design + sandy beaches = happy people. Rolling in their Hummers. Rolling in their money.

Waste the afternoon away on the beach, get some rest, and get ready for a really long night out. Exotic eateries, sexy lounges, and exhilarating outdoor decks count the hours down and command all the attention - so party till dawn if you dare. While South Beach has a last call around 2 AM, downtown Miami rages till noon the next day!

A message to the boys - if you want to get into any dance clubs you MUST have the ladies with you. Even if you're with George Clooney, you ain't getting in with 2 or 3 guys on your own. Free passes? On the guestlist? Who cares? You are not getting in without the softer sex on your arm. You've heard of no shirt, no shoes, no service. Well, now it's no girls, no service!

Seriously kids, Miami clubs can be just as tough to get into as L.A. or Vegas, so plan ahead and make sure you do have boys and girls in your group. Everywhere is different, but sometimes calling ahead earlier in the day and mentioning that you saw their place featured as an exclusive nightlife pick on journeyPod might help you get on the list. Or arrive earlier than the hordes and dress in your coolest duds.

South Beach will show you sun all day and let you cut loose Vegas-style all night (by the way, if you do have a gambling problem you can head about 30 minutes north to Hollywood where the Hard Rock Seminole Casino has the tables pumping).

So grab your bathing suit and shades. Pack your best 'going out' clothes. Bring your A-game. And you'll roll right in.

Enjoy Miami for its fine dining, fresh seafood, Latin flavors, and Little Italy. From Miami cheap eats to the city's eclectic neighborhood restaurants - from the steakhouses to the seafood, this Metropolitan area has something for everyone.

With thousands of choices in the greater Miami area, you're sure to find just the spot for a sumptuous celebration (food, dancing or otherwise). Your only challenge will be to hit all the journeyPod Picks on your wish list. Check it out here.

All About Paris

Let’s face it - when it comes to style, cuisine and wine - the French do pretty well! With world-class fashion and theatre, unrivalled music and clubbing, and an eclectic array of restaurant and bar choices, this is a city built on historical grandeur and everything chic.

Nowhere do all the romantic clichés play more strongly than Paris – the city of lights and of a thousand whispers. Like an impossibly beautiful woman who is placed on a pedestal, the sheer beauty of Paris can be overwhelming at first glance. But don’t let the glittering façade fool you…look beyond the heartbreaking beauty and you’ll find a charming and disarmingly normal city, and people who are not only friendly - but also curious about you (where you come from, your views on politics and so on)! It does take a bit of attitude adjustment though – just give the city a chance; not every Parisian is a snob! Just know, it certainly helps to arm yourself with at least a “bonjour” in their language.

Here, it’s far better to experience the city, than to just look at it. Of course, the Louvre, Pompidou, Musee D'Orsay, the Opera, Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower are unparalleled. But, Paris is far beyond the shadows of impressive monuments and grand boulevards. So, skip the endless museum hopping for a day, find your spot in one of the numerous cafés, and watch the world go by. Paris is a city full of romance and passion, so let it sweep you off your feet. Do like the Parisians do: enjoy your morning croissant or Nutella crepe as you stroll along the Seine. Or grab a mobile lunch of a baguette, brie, and sliced tomatoes. You too will feel like a Parisian (just like cute little Audrey Tautou when she portrayed eccentric Amelie) as you slowly stroll through the streets, taking in every smell, sight, and sound

When the sun starts to set, climb up to the top of Paris for the best views and Bohemian vibe in the city. No kids, not the top of the Eiffel Tower. We prefer the steps of Sacre Coeur where you can relax with the locals and a good bottle of wine as you watch the city transform.

Paris is chic, royal, ever-changing and always fascinating, so go ahead and discover where the locals hang out, eat, drink and reminisce about the day’s events in a tradition that’s impossibly French. If you want to run this town like Napolean did, checkout some of our journeyPod Picks and have some fun on us!

Top Paris Picks

Chez Papa - If you want to eat very good (and not expensive) Southwestern French cuisine come to Chez Papa early - because it's always full. With several locations throughout the city, Chez Papa serves dishes in a charmingly old-fashioned way in pots, pans and clay bowls. The service is excellent too – and, if you’re lucky – you may even get a chance to meet the big daddy himself, Chez Papa! The place is vegetarian-friendly, so you may order any of your choices without the meat. And, you can’t go wrong with their omelets, salads and onion pie! If you find yourself at Chez Papa on the busy rue La Fayette, sit near a window for some people-watching.

Buddha Bar – Roll up your sleeves and prepare to get into some trouble. Everyone from flight attendants to die-hard travelers to local Parisians agrees that Buddha Bar is the hottest spot in Paris! As you embark inside, you’ll find yourself greeted with an enormous Buddha who towers graciously over the crowd. Don’t piss him off as you climb the massive staircase to the restaurant and indulge in Japanese-American cuisine. If you’re in the mood for some chow, the most talked about dish here is the grilled duck. Just like their sister Buddha Bars in London and Dubai, this place also lets you dance off those calories after dinner.

Hungry for more? Well, you can hop a transcontinental to DeGaulle right now, but we'd advise you first to check out the rest of our top Parisian night spots at journeypod.com, and be prepared for some serious ooh-la-la.

journeyPod.com is the only place you need to visit for information on the trendiest bars and restaurants, the most luxurious hotels, and the most exclusive parties and shops for discriminating travelers.
Chicago Bars - Our Kind of Nightlife

Chicago is a big-time sports town with die hard fans for their Bears, Bulls, Cubs, and the World Champion Chicago White Sox. Even if you don’t like baseball, you’ll have the time of your life just like Ferris Bueller as you take in a Cubs game at Wrigley. The Windy City does a nice job blending in the new while maintaining its old world charm. Incorporated as a town in 1833, Chicago has grown to be the nation’s third-largest city (with a population of more than 3 million), the birthplace of the first skyscraper and one of the few international US cities. Chicago today offers a truly cosmopolitan flare that adds to any visitor’s big-city adventure – a beautiful city in the Midwest heartland that radiates a spirit of energy.

With 77 neighborhoods (yes, we did say 77), you can go from one to the next in a split second before you realize you’re in a different area with completely new sights and sounds. Having unmistakable character, each of this city’s neighborhoods brings a whole new array of shops, restaurants, attractions, historical elements, and intrigue.

Shopping on Michigan Ave. is truly magnificent, so make sure you work that into the plan.

Chicago is also known for its deep dish pizza, so you must try some while in town. Yes, the toppings are buried under the sauce, but trust us…it is fantabulous and worth the 40 minute wait. We like Gino’s East and Giordanno's, but as you will see there are many other solid choices.

Whether you want to cozy up in a casual neighborhood bar or don your best black dress for some late night cocktails, Chicago has it all! Here are just some of our journeyPod Picks:

RiNo – A sleek River North lounge (the name’s a spin on this), RiNo boasts low-slung seating, spotted “pony” chairs, kudo horn chandeliers, exposed beams and a bar top made with the midsection of a 200-year-old tree. Open till 4 a.m., RiNo lures locals and celebrities for after-hours action with a relaxed vibe. The music ranges from the latest hip-hop to 80’s flashbacks, and the drink menu features everything from PBR in a can, to signature martinis and VIP table bottle service. No promises, but those of you hoping to beat the hefty cover are advised to arrive earlier than 11pm. And for all you girls out there – the restrooms contain goodies galore (you’ll find everything from cosmetics to lollipops.) RiNo is located at 343 W. Erie St. (at Orleans St.).

Carol’s Pub (Lincoln Park) – Talk about a traditional honky-tonk, Carol’s Pub will remind you of the days when country music (and Uptown), belonged mostly to hillbillies. Drawing an eclectic crowd from early morning to early morning, this bare-bones venue with cheap booze and an “anyone’s welcome” vibe is irresistible! Founded in 1973, Carol’s Pub features dart tournaments on weeknights, and a house band on weekends. The bar menu offers basic beverages – namely beer, mixed drinks and Jaeger shots; and food options that include your typical bar eats like burgers, pizza and hot wings. If you’re in a karaoke swinging mood, stop by on a Thursday night. Carol’s Pub is located at 4659 N. Clark (at Leland St.).

Rockit Bar and Grill (River North) - Perhaps as penitence for making so many folks wait behind Le Passage’s velvet rope, Chicago club impresarios Billy Dec and Brad Young opened up this new Wild Wild West meets big city multi-level space with upscale bar and grill. Promising a laid-back vibe that “checks the attitude at the door,” Rockit is a great destination if you’re in the mood for fussied-up comfort food and a Western-chic late-night lounge scene. Boasting a large first-floor dining area and an upstairs lounge with pool tables and plasma TVs, which celeb-designer Nate Berkus (you know you’ve seen him on “Oprah”!) has designed – you’ll find comfy chocolate leather chairs, wood tables and exposed brick walls adorned with rustic elements. Specialty "Rocktails" include fruity concoctions like the Bomb Pop (raspberry and lemon vodkas, blue Curacao, lemonade and grenadine) and the Rockit Root Beer (Stoli Vanil, Godiva white-chocolate liqueur, and root beer). The place is located at 22 W. Hubbard St. (bet. Dearborn State Sts.).

Fulton Street Lounge (West Loop) - Nestled among the warehouses of the West Loop (and right next to high-end dining spot Follia) and in the thick of the booming Fulton Market District, this spot draws the beautiful people for after-work cocktails and late night libations. The open setting allows local crowds to build without ever getting too cramped, and the chic minimalistic décor adds class (and not haughty-taughty-ness). Groups here tend to convene on the comfortable plush seating at low, game-style tables; or find their way to the summer patio. Check out the lounge’s creative, seasonal martinis. Found at 955 W. Fulton Market.

Suite Lounge (Old Town) – Expect a New York loft-like atmosphere when you arrive at this 1,800 square-foot space with a drink list that reads more like a dessert menu (think: martinis rimmed with graham cracker crumbs, Pop Rocks or frosting). Boasting a 20- to 40-something crowd, the space features two bars, tables and booths, and several private nooks for those who want to seclude themselves from the scene. Suite Lounge features house and trance and electric lounge style music influenced by Ibiza DJs. Know this: despite its sexy interior, Suite Lounge encourages a surprisingly relaxed attitude towards dress – jeans are the standard for men and women, and you can wear your Pumas without a hassle. The lounge is located at 1446 N. Wells St. (at Schiller St.).

D.O.C. Wine Bar (Lincoln Park) – Although the name refers to the European wine designation, it also happens to be the initials for Dunlays on Clark – which boasts geometric design elements like large porthole windows, a high lumber ceiling and a shiny metal backbar and skylight. Perfect for wine aficionados who are interested in sampling reasonably priced wines from around the globe, D.O.C. featuers 150 international bottle choices, with 30 by the glass offerings. The wine bar’s menu includes small plates of choices like duck quesadillas, buckweat crepes and pizza. Located in the sleek and luxurious James Hotel, this lounge boasts modern design elements, candlelit cocktail tables and plasma TV screens to set the swanky scene that begins with the velvet ropes outside. Boasting “deconstructed” versions of traditional cocktails (like the signature James Hotel martini - that features blue raspberry vodka, elderflower cordial and served in a martini glass coated in a hard, raspberry candy shell. Remember: anchoring the south end of Rush Street’s nightlife, J bar is an early evening or a late night destination. James Hotel can be located at 610 N. With gleaming red tiles, a wall of bamboo and sexy crimson Asian-inspired décor elements, this bi-level venue is always attentive to its 20- to 30- something crowd that typically reserves tables and orders bottles of champagne (that range from $120 to $1,000 a bottle). Tuesdays are SIN DR (“Service Industry Night Done Right”) nights geared toward fashion and service industry elite, requires no cover charge and complimentary cocktails from 10 to 11 p.m. Other times, if you’re looking for reduced or comp. admission, just send an RSVP email to info@reserve-chicago.com and you’ll be good to go! reserve is located at 858 W. Lake St. (at Peoria St.).

The Wild Hare (Wrigleyville) – Calling itself the reggae capital of America is not too much of a stretch for The Wild Hare – ya’ mon! Every night of the week, local, national and international bands make their way to the stay at this club (which has doubled in size over the last ten years and invested over $100,000 into its sound system). In a given month, you’ll find everyone from Shabba Ranks to other such renowned performers as Rita Marley and Tony Reble traveling from Jamaica to perform here. This place still draws a large crowd who’s always in the mood for a little Red Stripe (Jamaica’s favorite beer), the signature house rum and great music. DJs spin between sets or when no band is booked and cover charge can be as high as $20 for big-name performers such as Yellow Man. The Wild Hare is located at 3530 N Clark Street (Cross Street: Addison Street).

Chicago Restaurants - Dining in Our Kind of Town

Restaurants

Alinea – With a kitchen filled with the country’s top culinary awards, risk-taking super-chef Grant Achatz has upped the ante in Chicago with these avant-garde culinary creations. A progressive American restaurant offering a multi-sensory prix fix degustation menu of 12 or 24 courses, the fare at Alinea causes a certain awe and “wow” by everyone who shares the experience in dining here. The 24 course menu is called the “tour” and is as much a marathon as it is a meal, generally taking nearly four or five hours to finish. Jackets are recommended, jeans not allowed. And remember – at Alinea, you come hungry, and leave… well, with your wallet a lot thinner. Alinea is located at 1723 N. Halsted St. (at Willow St.).

NoMi (Chi - Gold Coast/Streeterville) – Located on the 7th floor of the Park Hyatt Hotel, NoMi serves upscale contemporary French global cuisine with an Asian twist. Boasting stunning views of Michigan Avenue and Lake Michigan, this contemporary restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating, and an adjoining swanky lounge for after-dinner drinks. The restaurant is also known for its high-end, high-ticket tea offerings that include rare and limited leaves including vintage Pu-erh, reserve and display teas that range from $14 up to $700 a pop. Hint: Tables 30-37 offer the best Magnificent Mile views. NoMI can be found at 800 N. Michigan Ave. (at Chicago Ave.).

mk the restaurant (River North) – Rated by Zagat as the “place to go back to as often as possible" – this contemporary neighborhood favorite attracts an upscale crowd with its consistently delicious new American cuisine – with global influences that focus on the freshest ingredients available. Exposed brick and wood beams prove to be an elegant addition to this two-story space that features a bar, lounge and two dining rooms. For starters, try the lobster soup poured tableside over lobster meat; and for dinner, the seared rare ahi tuna. The desserts don’t disappoint either – the “Cake and Shake” – a mini vanilla milkshake served with buttermilk chocolate cake will have you smiling all night long! The restaurant is located at 868 N Franklin St. (at Chestnut St.).

Follia (West Loop) - A chic and icy-cool destination in the gritty Fulton Street warehouse district, Folia is a new Italian restaurant that always buzzing with the hip young crowd and corporate diners. Just about everything on the menu here scores, from the paper-thin prosciutto and mushroom pizza to the risotto Milanese and the taglioni with pesto and meat sauces. All the desserts are made in-house and are worth the calories. For all you chocolate addicts out there – try the chocolate lava cake (even though Follia’s most popular is the tiramisu-like cake with amaretto and mascarpone cheese). Just don’t be alarmed when you approach the front door of the place – you’ll see stylishly dressed mannequins peering back at you. (The restaurant displays art and fashions by local college students that you can purchase, or admire while you wait for a table.) Follia is located at 953 W. Fulton Market (at Morgan St.).

Landmark (Lincoln Park) – Fine dining meets hip and bustling bar/lounge scene at this multi-level space located in the Lincoln Park/Clybourn Corridor. A perfect night spot that draws more than just a crowd of Steppenwolf theater-goers (located just across the street), Landmark boasts multiple kitchens offering its diners innumerable menu options like grilled strip steak and pork chops, or pizza and lobster club sandwiches. Try the signature cocktails at Landmark or old favorites like a Cosmo made with Orange Grey Goose or a Bellini. The place is located at 1633 N. Halsted St.

Sushi Wabi – Voted “Best Sushi in Chicago” by Chicago Tribune readers, Sushi Wabi is the city’s original hipster sushi hot spot – its industrial (wood-block and steel tables), its loud, its filled with well-heeled, well-dressed locals who dig the clubby vibe and the DJ-spun music (nightly from 7pm to 11pm) while chowing down on a mean plate of maki. If you need any suggestions, order the: dragon roll, spicy shrimp and tuna rolls, spider roll and the gyu negima--scallions rolled in slices of marinated beef, all of which are the restaurant’s specialties. Sushi Wabi is located at 842 W. Randolph St. (at Halsted St.).

TRU (Chi - Gold Coast/Streeterville) – Talk about fine dining! Set in an open, airy loft space that could almost double as an art gallery, TRU marries style, sophistications and substance – offering progressive French cuisine (that’s more like playful works of art) and impeccable service. Served on a spectacular array of non-traditional surfaces produced by local and international artists, the décor is offset by the stark white walls adorned by contemporary art pieces (among which you’ll see an original Warhol). Food is as delicious here, as it is gorgeous; and specialties include: foie gras with pineapple relish and venison loin with creamed corn. The desserts are dreamy (the restaurant even accepts dessert-only reservations), and include selections like quince ice cream float with sour cherries, house-made lollipops and chocolate pot de-crème. Jackets here are required, as are reservations! The restaurant is located at 676 North Saint Clair St. (at Huron St.).

David Burke’s Primehouse (River North) – Located in the River North’s James Chicago Hotel, David Burke’s Primehouse is a mecca for all meat aficionados. Known for dry-aging steaks on the premises in its own salt cave (a temperature and humidity-controlled room fitted with salt tiles), the restaurant is refined, but not stuffy – attracting a see-and-be-seen crowd. And don’t just come for the steaks! Burke’s notable dishes, like the spicy “angry lobster” and “Kobe beef sashimi” are delectable. Just make sure you save room for the “cheesecake lollipops”! The James Hotel is located at 616 N. Rush St. (at Ontario St.).

Japonais (River West) – One of the city’s trendiest dining destinations. Japonais offers a sensuous scene and Euro-Asian fare that’s got foodies and fashionistas in Chi-town buzzing. The dishes and the décor at this 300-seat, industrial-chic space (with 2 dining rooms, a sushi bar and downstairs lounge and patio) is first-class. Japonais boasts four sensuous environments: a red (tables and sushi bar) and green (lounge-y with a wall of flames) room; a subterranean lounge; and a riverfront terrace – an invitingly dreamy setting of draped daybeds and candlelight. The menu takes creative license with traditional Japanese fare and creates a hot and cold mix of not-to-be-missed specialties, like the Kobe carpaccio, lobster spring rolls, the six seafood tartars and the maki rolls. Though service has been an issue, the food, décor and pretty cocktails you’ll drink here make up for it – try the "Floating Orchids" or choose from the extensive sake menu. At 600 W. Chicago Ave. (at Larrabee St.).

Gibson's Bar and Steakhouse (Chi - Gold Coast/Streeterville) – Named after the Gibson martini (garnished with an onion), this bar and restaurant commemorates all things big and bigger. Known for its “big martinis, big steaks and big desserts” – Gibsons has long been known to have patrons hooked after just one visit. Try the strawberry shortcake or the “turtle” chocolate-nut-caramel concoction. Reservations are strongly recommended, or be prepared to wait. Gibsons Bar and Steakhouse is located at 1028 North Rush (at Oak St.).

Narcisse (River North) – A former champagne n’ caviar bar, Narcisse has gotten serious about fine dining. A swanky hot spot with really attractive eats, drinks, décor and clientele, it boasts a remarkable champagne collection and four-star meals. Start with the sturgeon roe, and then move on to the filet mignon or grilled ostrich. Narcisse offers more than 100 different bubbly choices and a slew of signature cocktails, like the Champagne Marquis, a mix of Perrier-Jouet champagne, Godiva chocolate liqueur and Cuerenta Y Tres (pls don’t call it Liquor 43 like the tourists). Psst…. no sneakers, no hats, no athletic gear, no jeans. The restaurant is located at 710 North Clark St. (at Superior St.).

Piece (Bucktown) – Where else can you create your own East Coast, thin-crust style pizza in a trendy and casual bar atmosphere? With two sunken lounge areas, a long bar, and a number of booths and tables, Piece also features games – shown on projection screens and TV’s, live Jazz on Wednesdays, karaoke night Thursdays, and live bands on Saturdays. The place also has an excellent selection of beers on tap that include: Hoegaarden, Onion Pale Ale, Goose Island and Guinness. If you’re more Dockers, than DKNY – make your way here. Piece is located at 1927 W North Ave. (at Winchester Ave.).

LuxBar (Chi - Gold Coast/Streeterville) – A neighborhood saloon, LuxBar captures an elegance and simplicity with its stone, glass brass and wood to a late-30’s business crowd. Artisanal in style, the menu offers traditional comfort food and some new contemporary favorites mixed in; try Kobe burger with foie gras. The bar serves specialty cocktails and classics all made from natural, fresh ingredients. (The staff here has also been trained in the customer care philosophy that has made Gibson’s Steakhouse famous for legendary service.). If you can, grab a seat near the marble fireplace in the back of the room - it adds intimacy to a meal, while the floor-to-ceiling front windows offer great people-watching. LuxBar is located at 18 East Bellevue (at State St.).

Zapatista (CHI - South Loop) – The Mexican fare at this latest rustic-like restaurant in the South Loop is made with passion, heart & soul. The menu variety ranges from burritos, tacos & enchiladas to specialties like Camarones Sinaloa & Carne a la Parrilla, and guacamole made table-side. With its slow-turning fans, amped-up mariachi tunes and black & white photos, Zapatista is a lively cantina with indoor/outdoor seating that serves some of the finest quality tequilas available (with your choice of 50 here); not to mention, their specialty drink list is amazing. Try the Azul y Oro – a blue margarita made with Gran Gala orange liquor and La Revolucion with grenadine and chile piquin. Located at 1307 South Wabash (13th St.).

Le Colonial (Chi - Gold Coast/Streeterville) – If you’re looking to be transported to another time and place, Le Colonial vividly captures the beauty, romance and spirit of 1920’s French-Colonial Southeast Asia. Recline beneath a palm tree on a cushy rattan chair, while surrounded with luxurious décor at this Chi-town destination. With a well-to-do crowd and, a dining area on one floor and a lounge upstairs, this restaurant is the perfect setting for a social gathering or a romantic evening for two. Boasting authentic Vietnamese cuisine on the menu, all the dishes are exquisite. Try the sea scallops, filet mignon and the Vietnamese tapioca for dessert. Le Colonial is located at 937 North Rush St. (Cross Street: Walton Pl.).

Blackbird (Chi – Downtown) – Serving French and American cuisine to a consistently packed house (daily), Blackbird is very trendy and minimalist – with bare white walls and a single banquette that spans the length of the room. The menu here (thanks to chef extraordinaire Paul Kahan) is dedicated to adventurous, market-fresh fare. Nearly every dish is a masterpiece! Try the creamy foie gras, the venison salad or the signature bouillabaisse. Just make sure you save enough room afterwards for what may be Chicago’s best bread pudding! Blackbird is located at 619 W Randolph St. (at Desplaines and Jefferson Sts.).

Twisted Lizard (Lincoln Park/DePaul) – A lively Mexican restaurant that caters to young professionals who love to feast on fresh fajitas, enchiladas, chimichangas, burritos and "sincronizadas" (layered flour tortillas filled with re-fried black beans and choice of meat or vegetables). The décor is festive (surprise, surprise) and the cheerful Mexican music lends a fiesta-like ambiance to the ever-flowing margaritas (there are eight different types of margaritas served by the pitcher and more than 20 brands of tequila for building even more margaritas). Just make sure you go early or be prepared to wait (the citrusy margaritas and fresh chips and salsa make it worthwhile) at this basement-level restaurant. Twisted Lizard is located at 1964 North Sheffield Ave. (at Armitage Ave.).

Yoshi’s Café – Formerly one of Chi-town’s most exclusive dining spots, Yoshi’s has now adopted a more casual (and less expensive) vibe. The eclectic fusion menu is amazing and features dishes that could be described having Japanese, Italian, French and American influences. Try the duck liver mousse pâté and house-cured salmon sushi, or the artichoke and radicchio risotto. Don't miss the Skyy Ginger cosmo either – its made with gingered lime juice, Skyy vodka and Cointreau, and garnished with fresh ginger. Yoshi’s Café is located at 3257 N. Halsted St. (at. Melrose St.).

Tavern on Rush (River North) – If you’re looking for something that’s part restaurant, part lounge, Tavern on Rush offers both. With big steaks and a clubby atmosphere, this place draws a 30-something crowd to its country-club décor, leather accents and open kitchen. Though you might expect a dress code, there isn’t one (which means you’ll see blue jeans and the most expensive work suits). The classic American menu doesn’t disappoint with its great selection of steak and seafood options. And, if you’re in the mood for a cocktail – go for the martini, theirs are big enough to swim in! Taven on Rush is located at 1031 N. Rush St. (bet. E. Cedar St. and E. Bellevue Pl.).

Avec – If you’re looking for a wine bar with great food, and you don’t mind rubbing elbows with your neighbors at long communal tables, Avec is the place. The menu here focuses on small and large sharing plates of rustic, Mediterranean “peasant foods” – with many dishes cooked in a wood-burning oven and served in cast-iron pots. Try the house-marinated olives, chorizo-stuffed dates, the thin focaccia with truffle oil or the roasted chicken thigh panzanella salad. Avec also boasts a cheese cave with a collection of artisan cheeses from France, Portugal, Spain and Italy. Avec is located at 615 W. Randolph St. (at Jefferson St.).

X/O Chicago – This loungy place is named after the cognac designation (XO stands for “extra old” – the premium designation). The eclectic menu inflects global influences and mainly focuses on small sharable plates that change frequently, based on the season. The menu is divided into three “courses” – beginning with light dishes like the shrimp salad; progressing into second course like foie gras; and then the third course with choices like rib-eye steak with X/O sauce. For all you dessert lovers: try the Chocolate Orgasm (think puffy chocolate beignets and flourless chocolate cake). Located at 3441 N Halsted St. (at Newport Ave.).

Fireplace Inn (Old Town) – An Old Town institution specializing in “Flinstone-sized” fall-off-the-bone BBQ baby back ribs, Fireplace Inn has been around since 1969. Boasting a casual ski-lodge-like vibe inside, and an all-season patio (with retractable roof) featuring 16 satellite-fed televisions outside, the Fireplace Inn satisfies many with its updated old-school environment. The menu also offers steak specialties, seafood and salads. If you’re not in the mood for ribs, go for the BBQ chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. Located at 1448 N. Wells St. (at Schiller).

Capital Nightlife in the Nation's Capitol

Welcome to the Nation’s capitol! Yes, folks talk politics in this town like the rest of us talk about our sport’s teams. But they aren’t really that bad - the D.C. folk really do know how to loosen up those ties. D.C. is a town that loves its Happy Hour – a time when you can catch up with friends or meet new ones.

We saw you smuggle your after-work change of clothes into your cubicle so that you’re ready for the 5 o’clock bell. Go ahead, leave your car in the office garage – you can always cab it home or Metro it back to work the next morning.

Like most cities, Washington, D.C. is a collection of smaller neighborhoods (there are 14 of them), each having its own flavor and charm. Architecture and attitude changes from one block to the other, creating a cultural patchwork that can be fascinating for locals and tourists alike. The city has plenty of energy from all the politics, government, and colleges in town. From the Vietnamese places in Arlington, V.A. to the charming brownstones of Georgetown; from the urban feel of the Connecticut Corridor near Woodley Park and Cleveland Park to the alternative minded Dupont Circle, each area in this city offers up something unique.

One of our favorite things to do in D.C. is to just waste the day or night away on the Mall. But remember, this is not the shopping type. It’s the Quad or grassy park in between all the cool national monuments and museums in the heart of the city. The Smithsonian museums are free and allow you to explore art, history, space, and much more. You also feel the National pride as you stroll thru the Mall. So, even if you hated science class, you’ll still have fun whispering inside the Capitol rotunda. While in the area, you must stop by the Spy Museum - with all its interesting tidbits about the real James Bonds. Just try to remember your alias as you navigate thru the interactive maze of espionage. And, make a reservation since the lines are known to get a bit out of hand.

Worked up an appetite seeing all those landmarks in our nation's capitol? When you’ve had your fill of historical lessons and facts that you’ve forgotten since the 6th grade, it’s time to get your groove on. Here then are our journeyPod Picks for wining and dining your own party (political or not), while in D.C.:

Bars & Nightlife

Eighteenth Street Lounge (Dupont Circle) – ESL is simply the best lounge in DC - no matter how hard everyone else tries! With its own record label and a hipper-than-thou attitude, ESL is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Of course there is no name on the door and a pretty strict door policy (if you don’t look the part, you don’t get in). Looking pretty sparse from the outside (in an old townhouse sitting above a Mattress Discounters store), you’ll be surrounded by superb music, candles galore and a first-class crowd once inside. While weekends are always packed, special nights are Wednesdays and Thursdays when live music is playing. At 1212 18th St NW (at Connecticut Ave. NW).

MCCXXIII (Dupont) – This place (which most fondly refer to as “12-23”) has really stood the test of time and has never lacked panache! 1223 with its roman numerals, 3 levels of bars and 2 dance floors, has brought in practically every famous clubber or beautiful person in the DC area at one time or another. Radiating pulsating beats and satisfying those who value a venue with a hip dress code, a strict bouncer and a tight velvet rope, 1223 is more than just a trendy watering hole. It exudes an exclusive and elite vibe that encourages flirtation and the unlimited consumption of champagne and caviar. The music ranges from ultra-progressive rock and international house to hip-hop and R&B. The big night here is Spank on Thursdays. 1223 Connecticut Ave NW (near 18th St. NW).

Chi-Cha Lounge (U Street Corridor) – Everyone flocks to this DC nightspot. The theme here is Latino and very sexy – the walls are filled with colorful paintings, the lighting is low and the music is a sultry mix of cocktail jazz and electronica. After you enter and sink into the plush velvet couches, you can order one of Chi-Cha’s popular tapas dishes and signature red or white chi-cha cocktail (a mouth-watering mix of juices, cinnamon, cane sugar and a secret ingredient nobody can seem to figure out). Chi-Cha also seems to be one of the few places in town that you can order your own hookah pipe. Located at 1624 U St. NW (near New Hampshire Ave. NW).

Eyebar (Downtown) – Surrounded by office buildings swarming with hip young things, this lounge and DJ stomping ground, located on I (a.k.a. “Eye” Street), is in the perfect spot to make a killing! With few other clubs in the vicinity, almost daily drinks specials and a roster of trendsetting and fashionista regulars – this place is a hit (on weekdays and weekends). Eyebar is filled with modern furnishings, house and trance music, a sexy ambiance and a full bar. They do enforce a strict dress code policy: no sneakers, flip flops, hats, tank tops, athletic wear, shorts, ripped, worn out or baggy jeans. Eyebar can be found at 1716 I St NW (at 17th St. NW).

Dragonfly (Downtown) – Yet another nightlife destination that raises the “hip” quotient in DC! The moment you step into this restaurant/club destination you’ll feel as if you've been transported into the pages of 'Wallpaper' magazine or even possibly, the Howard Johnson in '2001: A Space Odyssey.' Furnished in white and chrome, Dragonfly oozes hip-ness with its drum and bass sounds and the animime films projected onto the walls. A modernist's dream, Dragonfly is surprisingly welcoming (considering the tight velvet rope in some of the city’s other hotspots). For this reason, you’ll find that the clientele ranges from hipster urbanites to the khaki-clad suburbanites, all getting loaded on the same sake Dragonfly serves. If your palette needs feeding, the sushi here is amazing (reservations are highly recommended). At 1215 Connecticut Ave NW (near M St. NW).

Kstreet (Downtown) – Looking for something extravagant and upscale? Kstreet lounge is your answer! A relatively new bar that was part of an effort to make DC “more like NY” –it’s very heavily promoted with special nights, guest lists, private tables anyone can reserve ahead and innumerable celebrity sightings. The high-tech minimalist space, with its futuristic feel is thoroughly wired – with 22 high-performance cameras for web casting parties, rows of plasma TVs and flat screen monitors built into block-style laminate tables. The place draws a heavy international crowd and different nights bring different people. It’s also open late on weekends (filling up mostly after midnight) and definitely a place to check out. Find it at 1301 K St NW (bet. 13th and 14th Sts. NW).

Topaz Bar (Downtown) – It’s not often that a hotel bar is known for its “hip and trendy” factor, but the lounge at the Topaz Hotel definitely changes all of that. Here you’ll find sapphire velvet benches sunken into the walls, zebra print seating cubes and leopard-print carpets. The décor at Topaz Bar is as eclectic as the crowds it draws. Most times, you’ll find hotels guest, area workers and DC hipsters sipping on signature cocktails like the Blue Nirvana, Enlightment, Mind Soother and Guru’s Pleasure. The nearly-hidden back room inside the bar also features a dance floor, and if you’re lucky – a DJ will arrive any minute, to enhance the mood! The Topaz Hotel is located at 1733 N Street NW (bet. 17th and 18th Sts.).

Play Lounge (Dupont) – A place where rules are made to be broken, Play Lounge can be found among the stretch of other hot nightspots along Connecticut Ave. Though it’s unmarked, most know exactly where to find it. This one-room lounge sizzles with energy from the sexy and energetic crowds that pack it inside. The contemporary minimalist décor includes cube-style ottomans and low banquettes – making everything eye level. While the DJ’s here spin hip-hop, retro, 80’s and fun – everyone who’s anyone lets loose by dancing on the tables tops or carving out space between the bodies. And if you’re really daring, you may even find yourself taking a turn on the stripper pole! Play Lounge can be found at 1219 Connecticut Ave. (at 18th St. NW).

Café Citron (Dupont Circle) – Feeling like a little salsa and mojitos to fill up your day? Check out this bar/restaurant with a Latin edge that delivers some of the best mojitos and caipirinhas in the area. If you don’t come here to eat, the upstairs is definitely the place to be – allowing you to check out the entire scene and supporting your people-watching habit. Every night is a good night here, and most end up with crowds of Latins and latin-loving peeps dancing on every available surface, including the booth seats. The small dance floor on the main floor need not stop you, the mojitos and latin music are enough to get you moving wherever you stand. At 1343 Connecticut Ave. NW (bet. 18th and 19th Sts.)

Ozio’s Restaurant/Lounge (Downtown) – At first glance, Ozio’s looks like a small restaurant judging from its mere two outdoor tables. But, on the plush velvet couches, you can order one of Ozio’s popular tapas dishes and enjoy some people watching. Boys be warned: there’s a $20 cover charge for you on Saturday nights. At 1813 M Street NW (near 18th St. NW)

Degrees Bar & Lounge (Georgetown) – Situated in the lobby level of the Ritz-Carlton, this bar and lounge has been designed to capture the history and the mood of this historic incinerator building - with its exposed brick walls dating back to the 30’s, black slate floors and the 175-foot tall brick smokestack cylinder that serves as the hotel’s centerpiece. Degrees features a classic cocktail menu that includes the hotel’s signature Fahrenheit Five martini and the Zentini that swaps sake for vodka and produces a less-fruity version of the Cosmo (that even the men are willing to order at the bar). The hotel is located at 3100 South St. NW (at 31st St. NW).

Sesto Senso (Dupont Circle) – This nightclub in the funky Dupont Circle (located at 1214 18th St. NW, at Connecticut Ave.) is the place to see-and-be-seen. Those wanting to dance can satisfy their cravings at Sesto Senso where DJs spin a creative blend of pop and Middle Eastern/European house music. This place isn’t just a dance club, however. Sesto Senso serves great Italian fare (mainly pizza and pasts dishes) before 11 p.m. And, if you’re coming for the food – don’t pass on the dessert! Their Tiramisu is a must.

Helix Lounge (restaurant and bar/lounge) – Just steps away from the lobby of Hotel Helix, locals and visitors alike are drawn to the look n’ feel of this lounge – an interactive social zone that tickles all your senses. Inside the place, the mood changes every few hours, choreographed by a sophisticated lighting system. No matter what night of the week, stylish 30-something guests take seat at the stools and gaze out at the crowd (filled with babes and business types) lounging on comfy plush sofas throughout the open space. Try a Sidecar drink with a Grand Marnier twist or the BBQ vodka martini mixed with smoky Scotch. Helix Lounge is located at 1430 Rhode Island Ave NW (at Rhode Island Ave., NW).

Capital Dining in the Nation's Capitol

Restaurants

CityZen (Downtown) - Located at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel (1330 Maryland Avenue SW, at 12th St.), CityZen’s chef extraordinaire, Eric Ziebold was voted as one of ‘America’s Best New Chef’s’ – and the restaurant one of the ‘Hottest Restaurants in the World.” This American-French restaurant (with Asian roots) boasts soaring ceilings and an exhibition kitchen – where you can watch your scrumptious dishes like foie gras risotto, chicken and dumplings or proscuitto with melon get prepared. Three and five-course tasting menus are also available and will not disappoint. With an 800-bottle wine cellar, a sophisticated lounge, dining area, and a signature martini or champagne cocktail – CityZen will allow you to indulge in a fine culinary journey.

Mate (Georgetown) – An upscale Latin-sushi lounge, this place is simply… hip. Another jewel in the crown of bar guru Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld (creator of Chi-Cha Lounge and Gua-Rapo), this fusion retreat takes over prime corner real estate in one of the last remaining retail spaces at the Ritz-Carlton complex. Known for its verba-mate teas, the restaurant also features imported blends from Argentina mixed with rum and fresh fruit, mojitos and even verba-mate-infused soup. Don’t miss out on the maki-like rolls with zesty Latin ingredients, along with the traditional dishes like platonas. While there’s no dance floor here, Mate turns into a sexy night spot when DJ’s spin. Mate can be found at 3101 K St NW (at 31st St. NW).

Zola (Downtown) – An elegant contemporary place serving American fare, Zola is set amongst restored classic architecture (located in the historic Le Droit Building) and offers an interestingly eclectic wine list. With a little pinch of espionage, patrons can peer through a small spy hole into an adjacent booth and glimpse others feasting on smoked beer and cheddar fondue, roasted lamb tabouleh or potato gnocchi (that’s pronounced enyaw-kees). Though desserts range from simple to sweet, make room for the peanut butter trifle and the chocolate bomb. Zola can be found below the radar at the International Spy museum building at 800 F Street NW (at 8th).

IndeBleu (Downtown) – The motto for this place is: “Mingle below, sup above, seduce throughout.” Combining the intrigue of the Near East, the sophistication and class of Europe, and the style and energy of the capitol of the world, IndeBleu temps you with an experience like no other. Offering a contemporary fusion of French/Indian fare in the main dining room, street foods and world rhythms in the sensual lounge, and playful assortments of cocktail options in the bar –what else do you need? The pillows, sunken nooks and floor-to-ceiling couches do indeed help. This place is especially busy Wednesdays thru Saturdays when DJ’s spin international tunes. IndeBleu can be found at 707 G. St., NW (at 7th St.).

Filomena Ristorante (Georgetown) – One of Washington’s most celebrated authentic Italian restaurants, Filomena is a landmark that has endured the test of time for nearly 25 years. Located in the heart of historic Georgetown (1063 Wisconsin Ave NW, at M St.), “pasta mamas” are known for whipping up enticing homemade pastas in the restaurant’s storefront window. Inside, you’ll be blown away by the lavish portions and the bargain basement (no pun intended – the restaurants is located below street level) $10 lunch buffets. Filomena’s menu takes you on a tour of Italy with its culinary delights, like the pasta mama’s tender ravioli stuffed with Italian cheeses and spinach and gnocchi della. As for a sweet ending of your tour, you won’t miss out by choosing any of the awesome cakes baked daily in Filomena’s own bakery.

Mie N Yu (Georgetown) – This place is so exotic, you’ll be fooled into thinking you’re in a completely different country. Formerly the space of Georgetown Station, everything about this place is a feast for the senses. Nearly every inch of the 7,000-square foot restaurant/bar is adorned with red and fuchsia silks, brocade and velvet, antiques, relics and other colorful trinkets reminiscent of a Moroccan bazaar. A Silk Road theme throughout, Mie N Yu gives anyone and everyone license to recline in the Dragon Lounge, sip cocktails in the Red Baroque dining room and order food and specialty drinks in the Turkish Tent or Tibetan harem room (keep on the lookout for the wrought-iron bird cage). An English-inspired bar, complete with DJs spinning eclectic grooves from across the globe, rounds out this unique dining destination. At 3125 M St. NW (at Wisconsin Ave.).

Local 16 (U Street Corridor) – This place may sound like a place for union workers, but the name really just refers to its location. A dinner-only destination for grown-ups, Local 16 is notches above its neighbors and wonderfully below the radar screen of the “bridge and tunnel crowd.” Eating here means eating with the locals. A split between a hip bar/lounge and a cozy dining room, Local 16 serves amazing dishes like the fried oyster po’ boy and coleslaw and the salmon with haricot verts. After 11 p.m., you’ll notice most of the diners piling out and the locals piling in. Checkout two indoor bars, an outdoor terrace bar, DJ’s and a mixed crowd of folk who just want a pint. Local 16 is located at 1602 U St. NW (at New Hampshire Ave. NW).

LIMA (Downtown) – This resto-lounge on K Street offers strong Latin influences on its menu – with a few international-fusion curveballs to keep things interesting. With a dining room above and a lounge in the basement, LIMA is dark, sultry and sexy. Just be careful of indulging to the point of losing your footing on the “invisible staircase”! Representing a winning combination of cuisine, design and ambiance, LIMA will have your palette tantalized with sensual and savory dishes that include ceviche, salad, steaks and seafood. At 1401 K Street NW (at 14th and K Sts.).

Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar (Capitol Hill) – A new wine bar and restaurant in - of all places - Capital Hill. Though it sounds an odd place to open such a trendy, hip restaurant/bar, success speaks for itself. Their menu bears a southern European influence, and it offers the best cheeses and meats of the Italian, French, & Spanish variety - all served in various combinations with olives and other treats on a wood cutting board. Sonoma also has, arguably, the largest collection of wines by the glass or by the flight. Sonoma is located at 223 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE (2nd Street S.E.).

Galileo’s (Foggy Bottom) – Renowned for its Italian and innovative cuisine, Galileo himself would have been proud of this place. It has been recognized by food critics as one of the best Italian restaurants in the country and Roberto Donna as one of the nation’s best chefs. The restaurant’s daily-changing menu offers numerous dining options: a casual meal at the bar, an elegant meal in the main dining room; and a culinary crème-de-la crème experience in a private dining area and kitchen, where Donna prepares the 12-14-course tasting menu and entertains you. FYI: Donna makes his own ham for salami and proscuitto, and his sausages, pastas, mozzarella, marmalades and breads are all made in-house. Galileo’s is located at 1110 21st St. NW (between L & M Streets).

Zengo (Downtown) – A Latin-Asian hotspot, Zengo (which translates to “give n’ take) merges Chef Richard Sandoval’s heritage with his love of Asian fare. Located in the restaurant hot zone near the MCI Center, Zengo is part serious and sophisticated restaurant, part sleek and sexy lounge. With intriguing shareable dishes like tacos filled with pickled ginger and empanadas laden with Thai chicken – this place is definitely worth checking out! The cocktail menu is one place at Zengo where its Latin and Asian interest don’t mix – so stick with the classic caipirinha’s, martinis or sake. Zengo is located at 781 7th St. NW (bet. 7th & H Sts.).

Tapaq Bistro (U Street Corridor) – One of the hottest new places in DC, this five-story Bistro boasts a restaurant, lounge space with multiple bars and a killer roof-top terrace (for all-season use and a 360 degree panoramic view of the city). Embracing the flavors of the Mediterranean from Turkey to Morocco, Tapaq’s tapas-style fare offers an exquisite and elegant blend of taste and presentation. Be forewarned: You may experience a bit of an “attitude” at the door, because Tapaq really does enforce a strict no-jeans, no-sneakers dress code that has been known to ruffle a few feathers. Found at 1336 U St NW (Bet. 14 & U).

Cabanas (Georgetown) – Offering upscale authentic Latin-American fare, coupled with the option to dine indoors or out, Cabanas is another choice in the heart of Georgetown. A place to see-and-be-seen spot, the outdoor patio seating is flanked by palm trees and overlooks the harbor fountains. The menu offers delicious options that range from chili-dusted calamari and shrimp/scallop ceviche to fish tacos and corn/crab fritters. Don’t miss the frozen Mango Margaritas! When weather permits, try to catch an outside table. Found at 3050 K Street NW (at Thomas Jefferson).

Café La Ruche (Georgetown) - This French-inspired old favorite (open since 1979), features contemporary artwork, flags and old photos scattered across the walls in this 19th century building. Known for having some of the best quiche you’ve ever tasted, the menu also showcases traditional French favorites such as potato and leek soup and croquet monsiers. Café La Ruche also offers good wine and superb desserts - all of which can be consumed in the adorable garden-like outdoor seating area that overlooks cobbled streets of Georgetown. Café La Ruche is located at 1039 31st Street NW (at M St. NW).

Tony and Joe’s Seafood Place (Georgetown) – An establishment as old as the waterfront itself, it’s hard to imagine a better view in all of D.C. Resting on the Banks of the Potomac River, this Harbor spot (with views of the Kennedy Center, the Key Bridge and Roosevelt Island) is usually packed with everyone who goes to the waterfront in G-town by boat or otherwise. And, it seems as if every young Washingtonian finds their way here for after-work drinks and seafood. Try the hot crab dip, which always makes for a good start. Tony and Joe’s can be found at 3000 K St NW (at 30th).

Ceiba (Downtown) – Latin inspiration guides the menu and décor at Ceiba. The cuisine bounces through Brazil, the Yucatan, the Caribbean and Cuba – while the décor boasts Mexican tiled floors and tropical murals. Located in the historic Colorado Building (at 701 14th St. NW, at G St.), Ceiba features a multi-leveled dimly-lit dining area filled with patrons chowing down on traditional Latin American dishes of ceviche. Appetizers like the Jamaican crab fritters and foie gras served with corn cake are not to be missed! Adding authentic caipirinhas & mojitos – how can you go wrong?

The Palm (Dupont Circle) - Some institutions never change. If you can't find your Senator on Capitol Hill, you better check The Palm. This is where the city’s most powerful have long been its most loyal patrons. A spot for negotiating and deal-making over a juicy (huge) steak is as infamous as the restaurant’s signature martini! But you don’t need to be a politician to enjoy the great food, white-jacketed waiters, dark suits and high heels here. Keep an eye out for Larry King and Tim Russert as both have been known to pop in. The Palm is located at 1225 19th Street NW (Bet. N & M Sts. NW).

Taste of Carolina (Shaw District) – Feel like Dixie-style dishes, but can’t make your way down to the South? Experience southern food and hospitality at its best at a Taste of Carolina. This restaurant serves up the South in high-style in a two-story townhouse turned restaurant and bar. Representing some good ol’ food, the menu offers a variety of choices, from fried fish sandwiches and BBQ chicken, to Homemade Pound Cake. The bar at Taste of Carolina definitely buzzes at happy hour, but the best seats in the house are at the bay window nook. Keep in mind: you can also find karaoke, poetry reading and live jazz on weekends. A Taste of Carolina is located at 1930 9th Street SW (near T St. NW).

Sequoia Restaurant (Georgetown) – Walk through the doors at Sequoia, and you walk into the land of beauty – beautiful décor (high ceilings, warm lighting and cherry wood), beautiful people (the city’s well-healed elite can be found here) and beautiful views (located right on the Potomac’s Waterfront). Offering indoor and outdoor seating, the restaurants boasts three dining levels and a gorgeous patio area – where the sexy singles swarm to sip their cocktails under the white lights. The restaurant serves everything from fancy burgers to pan-seared Chilean sea bass. You must must try the duck dumplings and crab cakes. Jacket and tie are required. Sequoia is located at 3000 K St. NW (at 30th St. NW).

Old Ebbitt Grille (Downtown) - Established in 1856, Old Ebbitt Grill is the oldest dining saloon in the city. Located across from the White House (and steps away from the museums in downtown Washington), Old Ebbitt serves American Traditional Cuisine, offering the largest selection of oysters in the area. A favorite of Presidents Grant, Cleveland, Harding and Roosevelt, Old Ebbitt offers casual dining with service to locals and visitors alike – always a popular meeting spot for political insiders, journalists, celebrities and theater-goers. Old Ebbitt Grille is at 675 15th Street, NW (between F and G).

All About Boston Bars

It's a city where a 5 year old boy and an 86 year old grandmother will be wearing the same Boston Red Sox hat on the T and asking the same question each and every morning- how did the Sox do last night? Baseball is not just another sport in Boston, it's part of the culture...it is Boston. That "Fever Pitch" movie was no joke. Just get used to it and leave your opposing team jerseys at home unless you want to get hit in the head with a bottle. Seriously, especially you Yankees fans.

Boston is a great city that blends its future into its storied Boston Tea Party past. Walk The Freedom Trail to step back in time for some Revolutionary history. And then you have the cosmopolitan new architecture right next to Paul Revere. Think charming New England with those lovely brownstones.

Faneuil Hall is a must. Explore the North End for "to die for" Italian... just like grandma makes.

Here are our journeyPod picks for your viewing pleasure:

Bars & Nightlife

2. SOHO: $5 cover and a great dance floor in the bottom level. Young professionals flock in on the weekends. Sunday morning they offer an amazing Brunch for $15. Live music with fantastic food. SOHO is located on Market Street in Brighton.

9. Bell in Hand: Since this is one of the oldest Bars in the USA, we had to put it on the list. Yes, for all of you Beer Drinking History buffs, there is a plaque to prove it. Located in Faneuil Hall.

10. Sunset Grill: Great food and an amazing selection of Beer. The beer menu is so thick, it could take hours to decide. More of a sit down and drink lots of beer type of place. Located in Brighton on Commonwealth Ave.

11. Sam Adams Brewery: It's Boston. It's Sam Adams. The tour is packed with facts, but most attend for the FREE Sammy that is poured after the tour. Most of the time, the Tour guide will even pour some unreleased beers. Located in the middle of nowhere in Jamaica Plain. They ask for a donation, but the tour is Free!

All About Boston Restaurants

It's a city where a 5 year old boy and an 86 year old grandmother will be wearing the same Boston Red Sox hat on the T and asking the same question each and every morning- how did the Sox do last night? And then you have the cosmopolitan new architecture right next to Paul Revere. Think charming New England with those lovely brownstones.

Faneuil Hall is a must. Explore the North End for "to die for" Italian... just like grandma makes.

Here are our journeyPod picks for your viewing pleasure:

Restaurants

1. Anna's Taqueria: Yes, there is always a line out the door, but it is well worth the short wait. Stick with their world famous Chicken, Pork, or Beef Burrito. Anna's has become a Boston icon, and has two locations:in Brookline and in Cambridge.

2. Red Bones: Barbecue in the North must have been created here. Great selection of every style of ribs. Fantastic beer menu as well. Walk in very hungry. Red Bones is located in Cambridge.

3. Ginza: The best Sushi in Boston. If you are hungry, try ordering the full Boat. You will float out of there. The staff and SAKE are fantastic. Ginza is located next to the St. Mary's stop in Brookline.

4. Fiore: There is simply not enough room on this list to mention all of the North End Italian Restaurants, so we picked one of our favorites, Fiore. If you have never been to Italy, the North End is the next best thing. A walk down Hanover Street is like a moment in Italy.

5. Tasca:The best Spanish Tapas restaurant in Boston. Fantastic Sangria and a huge selection of tasty Tapas. Located in Brighton on Commonwealth Ave.

6. Sunset Grill:Menu is very diverse with something for everyone. If you have room, you must order the Mud Slide Pie for dessert. For the Beer Fanatic, Sunset has the most beers on tap or in the bottle in all of Boston. They must just have every beer ever made. Located in Allston on Brighton Ave.

7. Figs: When he is not cooking for the TV audiences, our boy Todd English turns out a nice thin crust pizza. There are only 13 tables in Figs, so be prepared to wait. Figs is located Beacon Hill, Boston, and Charlestown.

8. JP Licks: Keeping with the dessert theme, JP Licks has some of the best home made ice cream (and yogurt) on the planet. We highly recommend the Peanut Butter low fat yogurt. JP Licks is located in Coolidge Corner in Brookline, Jamaica Plain, and Newbury Street.

9. Mike's Pastries: No trip is complete without a stop for Mike's famous canoli. They should put Mike's on the Freedom Trail it has become so popular. Again, there is always a line for late night dessert, but it moves quickly and is worth it. Mike's is the perfect finish after you have stuffed yourself in the North End.

10. Davios: High end Italian American food. The menu is very diverse, and we highly recommend their steak or seafood. Located on Arlington Ave.

Vegas, Baby! Vegas Restaurants

Vegas, baby. Vegas! They weren't lying: what happens in Vegas... stays in Vegas!

How many times have you heard those catch phrases? Well, we agree - they are both very overstated. But, they really do sum up your Vegas experience. Bottom line: Las Vegas is about checking your husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, etc. at the door and cutting yourself loose from any morals, worries, conscience. This is the place where everyone seems to think that "anything goes" - and it usually does! People actually do enjoy pretending they are somebody else. Even the most conservative woman in your office will let her hair down and give in to that one night stand -- she is in Vegas, after all!

With all those poker faces and bluffs at the casino scene, everyone thinks they are somebody else long after they leave the tables.

Vegas is a place to act like that friend that always tells the best stories. It's a place to stay up way past your bedtime, gamble away your entire paycheck, act a bit crazy, or do the things you are always too scared to do in the "real world." It's a place where you're supposed to get into trouble and mix things up. It's a town of bling-bling and dreams - cause you never know when your luck is going to catch fire.

Somehow, despite all this crazy single silliness, Vegas is still a big enough town to offer plenty of options for the alterna-yuppie couples too. They can get all cleaned up and enjoy an exquisite meal or glitzy show. They can run the tables with the best of 'em and waste the afternoon away at the pool or spa. Things getting boring in the bedroom? Try one-part champagne, one-part swanky hotel room, one-part Vegas, and you'll be at it like jackrabbits again. Just don't get too liquored up, cause you might just wake up the next morning and learn you were married by Elvis in that tiny white chapel, complete with plastic flowers. Classy, ey? Bet the parents will love hearing that one!

Yes, Vegas has a lot of adrenaline and you'll feel the rush in everything you do here. In a town where people have $10,000 riding on one card, even the mundane everyday tasks like eating and drinking take on more excitement. And if eating and drinking is your thing, you've come to the right place. Top restaurants and chefs from around the world have dropped into town and opened up for business. Now, you too can enjoy the highest quality of cuisine on The Strip. Here then, are our journeyPod Picks for dining, wining and dancing Las Vegas style:

Restaurants

Bradley Ogden (Caesars Palace) - Famous California chef Bradley Ogden recently opened this sleek and modern Caesars Palace restaurant, his first outside of the Bay Area. In addition to a 60-seat lounge, the eatery boasts a patio dining area that faces Caesars Coliseum and a faux patio with torch-like fixtures and waterfall. The emphasis is on farm-fresh, regional and creative American fare - try the "opah" and the "halibut", and you'll realize why this restaurant is such a prize. Everything here seems to be perfect, and judging by the looks on the folks around the place, everything really is! Hint: try to get a seat in the rear dining room near the fireplace - it's the most romantic spot here.

Delmonico Steakhouse (Venetian) - Chef Emeril Lagasse has done it again - this time on the Las Vegas strip! Located in The Venetian, his newest Creole-influenced Old Tuscan monastery-style establishment take its name from the legendary, century-old New Orleans institution. Remember the time when lunch was a full-fledged event and cocktail hour was never to be missed? Delmonico Steakhouse remembers! Though beef is the main draw here, you won't be disappointed with all the other choices on this menu. And make sure you save room for the fresh blueberry bread pudding with lemon ice cream and caramel sauce. Psst... if you want the "ultimate" dining experience, try and reserve the chef's kitchen table and enjoy a six-course tasting menu.

Il Mulino (Caesars Palace) - Perfect for prime people-watching (ask for a seat on the 40-seat patio that overlooks the Forum Shops Strip) and decadent fare, Il Mulino is sure to please. Diners sit in a sumptuous room with wrought-iron chandeliers and a floor-to-ceiling glass-enclosed wine rack. All the meals here begin with a slew of delectable and complimentary appetizers and the menu choices are impressive. But you won't just be impressed with the food, the team of tuxedo-clad waiters and rich specialties will surely make this one your most luxurious dining experiences while in town.

Daniel Boulud Brasserie (Wynn Las Vegas) - Who would want to pay $40 for a burger & fries? We would and we did and we loved it. Of course the beef was the finest in town and this was no ordinary burger. Boulud's other signature dishes like the beefsteak tomato, tarte pissaladière, crispy pork belly and the fricassee of Dover sole are...how should we say, "kick ass." If you're looking for upscale French cuisine that's served in a sumptuous-country themed setting - this brasserie is the perfect choice (overlooking the Wynn lagoon).

Andre's (Monte Carlo) - Repeatedly voted among the best restaurants in the city, Andre's is essentially located in a 1930's era Las Vegas home that's been converted into a charming and comfortable French Countryside chateau. Serving decadent French cuisine - everyone who leaves here is wowed. There are three private dining rooms and even a Louis XVI room, where diners can enjoy cognac and cigars. Tables are topped with Versace china, candlelight and fresh flowers. The menu is seasonal, and always features a bounty of fresh seafood, fowl and meats - try the duck wrapped in hazelnut crust.

Sushi Roku (Caesars Palace) - L.A.'s wildly popular sushi hotspot is now available in Sin City. With its critically acclaimed Modern Japanese fare and Zen-like atmosphere, Sushi Roku is not just a favorite among the hip, young visitors - the locals flock here too! And not only is the scene fabulous, but the food is to die for. Specialties include seared yellowtail sashimi with ponzu and diced chilies, and baked lobster roll with creamy spicy sauce. Signature cocktails are awesome; try the "Cantaloupe Martini" or the "Tokyo Cooler". And if you're in the mood for a view, booths 603 & 604 are elevated and allow you to gaze out at the Strip.

Piero's Italian Cuisine If you're looking to relive the days of the Rat Pack, head on over to this retro-styled Vegas mainstay that's outside the casino strip (located at 355 Convention Center Drive). Piero's boasts leather booths and an attitude-infused setting. Don't be surprised if you see a few familiar famous faces here - they too can't stay away from the Roman-style stuffed artichokes and the restaurant's signature spumoni.

Prime (Bellagio) - For gorgeous views of Bellagio's dancing fountains, pop into Prime. Steaks come with six types of mustard and five sauces - all of which add sophistication to any cut. The restaurant's signature steak is the veal porterhouse with kumquat-pineapple chutney and caramelized cauliflower. And the dessert-of-choice, the chocolate cake with warm gooey center, ain't too shabby either! Note: If you've had a good day at the tables, treat yourself to a $1,050 shot of Chivas Royal Salute (bottled and launched in 1953 in honor of the newly-crowned Queen Elizabeth II).

Fleur De Lys (Mandalay Bay) - Prix-fixe French contemporary cuisine (with Mediterranean touch) is presented like artwork in this romantic and elegant enclave. Named as one of "the nation's Hot 50 Restaurants" of 2005, this is for many discriminating palates, hands down, the best food in Vegas. However, the food isn't the only thing impressive here, Fleur De Lys boasts a floral arrangement of 3,500 fresh ice-pink rosebuds, the theater-style curtains at the small tables and the hand-painted china at each table just exudes grace and style. If you're a vegetarian, don't fret: the chef has been known to whip up something unique just for you.

Olives (Bellagio) - A Mediterranean gem with a lakeside view (Bellagio's dancing fountains), Olive's is the less-expensive relative of The Mirage's Onda (as well as a branch of our boy Todd English's original Boston-based eatery). Don't miss their signature wood-oven flatbreads with imaginative toppings and the little dumplings of goat-cheese in black-olive-flavored wrapping. Just make sure you save room for the vanilla-bean soufflé - it's so good, it should actually be outlawed!

Michael's Steakhouse (Barbary Coast Hotel) - A culinary masterpiece for over 20 years, this intimate gourmet eatery is known for its epicurean delights! Exquisitely furnished in rich red velvet, the restaurant features a 40-panel stained glass-domed ceiling, oversized wingback chairs and imported Italian marble. When dining here, try the signature dishes that include the Chateaubriand Bouquetierre or Rack of Lamb. And, you must (we say: must!) save room for dessert - like the Bananas Foster, Cherries Jubilee or the famous chocolate-dipped fruit selection.

Aureole (Mandalay Bay) - Wine cellar meets rappelling competition at this Charlie Palmer masterpiece. It is as much of an event to eat at Aureole, as it is a culinary soiree - and the wine list is exceptional (restaurant boasts nearly 10,000 bottles). With that, guests are greeted by the spectacular, 42-foot wine tower that houses these bottles. Then there's the food. The menu changes seasonally, and the tasting menu which changes almost weekly offers three and eight-course tasting options. If you see the pork tenderloin with sage wrapped in prosciutto on the menu, do not think twice.

Chinois (Caesars Palace) - Chef Wolfgang Puck's casual Asian and French-inspired café features two levels of authentic Asian art, a trickling water fountain and windows big enough to inspire people-watching on the Forum Shops Strip. An exhibition-style kitchen allows restaurant guests to view the preparation of their tantalizing feasts. Try the passionately-popular Chinois Chicken Salad and the spicy Kung Pao Chicken. If you and your party are particularly ravenous, meals can be served "family style" to give you the chance to sample more than just one of Wolfy's dishes.

Tao (Venetian) - A visually stunning 43,000 square foot restaurant, banquet room, ultra-lounge and nightclub, Tao has been a magnet for those on the "A" list (movie stars, sports celebs and rockers alike). Modeled after the sexy and successful NYC restaurant of the same name, Tao is located under the watchful eye of the lucky signature 20-foot Buddha. Featuring two rooms - The Temple and The Emperor's Ballroom - Tao features a variety of music formats, eight private sky boxes and an infinity pool. The menu boasts Hong Kong, Chinese, Japanese and Thai fare with full entrees and small plates. Tao also has an extensive wine list with more than 30 sake options. Make reservations at least a week in advance or even Buddha himself won't be able to get you a table.

Vegas, Baby! Vegas Bars

Bars & Nightlife

If it's nightlife you're after, you've come to the right place. Vegas provides a party all day and all night. But the town really comes alive when the desert sun sets and everyone's inner player and alter-ego come out. Every night in Vegas feels like an elaborate Bachelor party. If you're looking to have some fun, have a girl's night out or forget your past and meet somebody new, then a night on the town in Vegas is your best medicine.

The nightlife has significantly picked up in recent years, and now provides just as much buzz as the table games inside the casinos. So grab your little black dress and your best pickup lines and get on it! Roll the dice and see what the night has in store for you. Oh, what's that? You don't "normally" enjoy the clubs? Well, you don't normally go home with strangers either. Go out there and enjoy- don't worry, we won't tell!

PURE Nightclub (Caesars Palace) - If class, sophistication and style are what you're all about - this is the place you need to be (definitely the most upscale club in Las Vegas). With 36,000 square feet, PURE is like three clubs in one. The three distinct environments include The Red Room - a VIP haven with cocoon-like private booths and secluded from the main club; the Terrace - a 14,000 square foot enclave with private cabanas and panoramic views of the Strip (pay attention to the glass elevator or the twisting staircase that'll get you here). If you're a high-roller, celeb or just have enough cash to drop to feel like one, PURE is the spot to check out!

Tryst (Wynn Las Vegas) - From the moment you descend the marble staircase leading to Tryst, it becomes exceptionally evident that a distinctly unique nightlife experience awaits you. Surrounded with sound, style and sensuality, Tryst boasts the best-looking "A" list crowd in Vegas. As you emerge upon the club's centerpiece, you'll need to catch your breath at the sight of the 94-foot waterfall and walls covered completely by hundreds of mirrors. The club also boasts lush velvet - which can be found on the walls, draperies - everywhere you look at this oasis. You'll also enjoy observing the striking cocktail servers dressed in alluring attire (yes: you will need a bib). If you're not afraid to spend cash, request seating on the patio/lounge on a bed near the lagoon or checkout the VIP room, which features a stage and stripper's pole where even you (yes, YOU!), can show of your moves.

Light (Bellagio) - Exhilarating, glamour and intimate all describe the nightclub experience you'll enjoy here. The second outpost mirrors the chic and sexy design of the velvet-rope exclusivity of its trendy NYC predecessor. As you embark into the expansive space filled with billowing curtains, candles and recessed dance floor, you'll likely find yourself rubbing elbows with Tinsletown's elite (Bruce Willis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sting, among others). Light boasts state-of-the-art lighting, sound and technology, along with world-class elegance found nowhere else on the Strip.

Rain in the Desert (Palms) - A 25,000 square foot hotspot that boasts all the bells and whistles you'd expect of a Las Vegas mega-club, this is probably the most "hyped" club in Sin City - thanks to MTV and the celebrity "A" list. A typical clubber's dream, the place has the styling of sexy dark hues, 14-foot fireballs (yes you can feel the heat) that light up an elevated dance floor and dancing water fountains. Eye candy presents itself with gorgeous go-go dancers that suspend on platforms from the ceiling and gorgeous patrons that need no suspension. If you're in the mood for a change of scenery, venture outdoors to the poolside mattresses (just remember to bring your poison - there's no bar outside).

GhostBar (Palms) - Make sure you aren't afraid of heights when you climb high in the sky above the Strip to this 55th floor, 360-view of the glittery city and beyond (we swear: the ride lasts only seconds). With a see-thru acrylic floor that looks directly at the Pool Lounge 55 stories below, you will have that "falling" sensation when you look down. GhostBar delivers a "Jetson-esque" venue that serves up great live DJ music (rock and hip-hop) and drinks. Warning: if you are afraid of heights, go anyway - just let yourself indulge in a few of the signature cocktails to help you out!

The House of Blues Foundation Room (Mandalay Bay) - One of the most exclusive clubs in Vegas that features an astonishing view of the Strip (that only compliments its extraordinary company), this usually members-only venue occasionally opens its doors to the general public - particularly on their signature Monday nights after-hours party, called "Godspeed." Accessible only by a private elevator, The Foundation Room (located 43 stories up) has an exotic, mysterious and sexy ambience. The club features a variety of private rooms and a fireplace is located in the main lounge area surrounded by cozy seating. With different DJ's to choose from, you'll have your choice of hip-hop, house and dance - depending on your mood.

JET Nightclub (Mirage) - Swanky and sexy, this is a nightclub where only the hip tend to gather. An evolution with a state-of-the-art sound system that offers the best of hip-hop, house and rock, JET provides the ultimate combination of sophistication and cutting-edge. Featuring three distinct rooms, dance floors (totaling 15,000 square feet), and European bottle service, this nightspot is as posh as posh gets. So, remember: If you reserve a table with bottle service, you'll surely increase your chances of getting in - which can be tough, considering the hordes of people lined up outside.

Tangerine (Treasure Island) - Sensuality and sophistication is what you'll find when you cross the threshold of this intimate lounge and sultry club. With beautiful bartenders (surprise, surprise) and burlesque dancers (it's all about the eye candy here), the nightly shows tantalize and provoke men and women alike, with flesh against flesh and barely-there garter belts. DJ's spin a mix of rock and dance, and the club/lounge also features a gorgeous outdoor patio that overlooks the Buccaneer Bay - so be sure to catch a glimpse of the outdoor show when you're out there. The spot in Vegas on Wednesday nights.

Body English (Hard Rock) - DJ AM (from LAX in L.A.) takes you on an unforgettable ride at this swanky club with its grand staircase and crystal chandeliers. Black, mirrored walls and leather booths are sexy and sleek, and the vibe is untouchable - you'll feel the energy the second you pass through the velvet-rope. Though getting through the front door can be tricky, you'll be partying with the likes of Justin Timberlake and the Hilton sisters if you can find your way in. Got your unlimited AMEX with you? Try the $1,000 martini - an extravagant cocktail that features a diamond-and-ruby-topped swizzle stick that you can even take home.

La Bête (Wynn Las Vegas) - The name, which translates to "The Beast" in French, is a treat for the senses. Decorated in warm red hues and featuring an entire wall made out of glass, through which you can see a waterfall cascading into a lagoon, La Bête is stunning. And, when things get hot and heavy on the grand dance floor, a glass panel next to it opens to the spacious outdoor patio (with faux mountains, towering trees and the waterfall lagoon). This place allow guests to relax, shake their groove thang' and just marvel at the décor and beautiful patrons that transport you far far away from the Vegas desert. All that, plus DJ's spinning a mix of sensual R&B and Top 40 hits make this place an irresistible draw.

RA (Luxor) - This place proves that size really doesn't matter! Though smaller than many of the other Vegas clubs, RA presents a stellar line-up of internationally-renowned DJ's that spin the hottest hip-hop, techno and dance. Given its location in the Luxor Hotel, RA pays loyal homage to its namesake, one of the great gods of Ancient Egypt. The Sun God RA was believed to be the creator of the Universe - by day, the heavens were his domain; and by night, he descended into the Underworld to party and play. Today, the Club Ra (with its 19,000 square feet) is a temple in his honor - an ultra-modern, ultra-hip dance oasis that boasts two bars, a center stage and grand dance floor. Dress to impress - all eyes will be on you (and know: the club enforces an upscale dress code since the gods don't take too kindly to those who show up in jeans).

Club Ice - The city's first "MetaClub", Ice is the coolest lounge/club and provides an experience like no other. Six unique microenvironments (accessible in a circular pattern) cater to everyone's different tastes -- from intimate and loungy to downright sultry and boisterous. The clever mix of beats that keeps you moving and the contemporary, metropolitan décor makes this one of the most attractive nightspots in town. Sexy singles can enjoy the fur-lined walls of the Fur Room or the Ultra-Chic Lounge that boasts plush seating and minimalist furnishings. A feast for the eyes, go-go dancers gyrate on an elevated stage, while liquid-nitrogen keeps revelers calm, cool and collected.

I Love LA Restaurants

L.A. has a lot to offer. The City of Angels is always on-the-go and seemingly driven by glitz and glamour. And if you're willing to fight the traffic, you'll find some of the world's best restaurants, shopping and attractions - from studio tours to museums, from beaches to piers.

L.A. is the epitome of big, bold and beautiful - and most of the hobbies in this town hover around "the scene". So, if you've had your share of the beach, head inland to tour the star-studded Sunset Boulevard or Melrose Avenue - and keep your eyes out! Since the restaurants and bars drive the social hustle n' bustle, you'd better allow yourself that afternoon power-nap if you want to keep up with the cool kids.

Remember: the stars come out at night - this is LA after all. This town seems to shimmer after sundown... you can rock it out on the Sunset Strip or club it up in Hollywood. So, if you like your bars cool, your martinis dry, and your restaurants scrumptious, make sure you've got your wallet, your appetite and your energy for your night on the town Hollywood style.

Here's our insiders guide to some of the best restaurants and nightlife options. Know this: fights broke out between our editorial staff when somebody foolishly suggested we limit our journeyPod Picks in L.A. to only 10 Restaurants and 10 Bars. We had so much fun tearing it up in Tinseltown that we had to go with 15 selections in each category. Of course, another fight ensued when we tried to assign numbers to all of these hotspots -- so cooler heads prevailed and we have since removed the rankings.

Be assured of one thing... all 30 of these places are ridiculously fantabulous and require your own A-game. Maybe even after a night on the town, you too will understand why even people in the biz think "Entourage" seems so real...

Restaurants

1. Koi: (West Hollywood) If your goal is to spot Hollywood's A-list of celebrities, make reservations at L.A.'s hottest Asian-fusion restaurant where you go to see and be seen. Though service might be rushed sometimes, who really cares? The food is just too damn good. A welcome relief from the hectic Melrose scene, Koi is a haven of feng-shui elements (candles, water and open patios). Here's a tip: request one of the horseshoe booths on the back patio. Located at 730 N. La Cienega Blvd (between Melrose Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd.)..

2. Morton's The Steakhouse: (West Hollywood) Legendary for its Oscar-night parties, star-struck celebrity watchers can often see their favorite actors in culinary repose at this Tinseltown power-elite restaurant. Do not, we repeat - do not confuse this with the Arnie Morton's of Chicago steakhouse chain. And, if you have enough room after you've chow'd down the hearty dry-aged steak you came here for, order the banana-walnut beignets with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce or the warm melt-in-your-mouth chocolate espresso cake. Morton's can be found at 8764 Melrose Ave. (and Robertson Blvd.).

3. The Ivy: (West Hollywood) Dealmakers and dream-makers dine at this cottage with white picket fence (this is where most celebrities go when they actually want to get photographed by the always-lurking paparazzi). While the shabby-chic furnishings (think antique French furniture that needs painting) may not be all that inspiring, the traditional American comfort-food is. Just make sure you taste the Caesar salad (the-most-perfect one we've ever eaten) before you let yourself be seduced by the decadent desserts. Look closely for the sign (it's hidden in the ivy) as you stroll up to 113 N. Robertson Blvd. and Alden Dr.

4. Dolce Enoteca: (West Hollywood) Talk about the quintessential celeb-hot spot (Ashton Kutcher - and about half the cast of "That 70's Show" - owns it)! Hollywood heavy-hitters lounge in big booths and enjoy the sexy decor of black leather and marble. Nibble on Italian-style tapas -perfect for sharing. Make sure you try the Risotto entrée with Gorgonzola, and save enough room for the sumptuously rich ricotta cheese custard for dessert. Located at 8184 Melrose Ave. and Sweetzer Ave..

5. Dan Tana's: (West Hollywood) Who says LA doesn't have good Italian food? Walking into this restaurant is like entering a time warp back to 1950's NYC. The old Hollywood atmosphere is matched only by the food (simply delicious and loaded with garlic). Hollywood moguls, actors, screenwriters (and wannabes in all three aforementioned categories) flock for Spaghetti Carbonara and Shrimp Diavolo. Since a reservation here is still one ofthe hardest to get in town, be flexible on timing (psst...eating late here is better anyway). Located at 9071 Santa Monica Blvd. at Doheny Dr..

6. Asia de Cuba: (West Hollywood) Feel like rubbing elbows with Hollywood's elite? Then head over to the place that has been doing Fusion since before "fusion" was even its own type of food category. Asia de Cuba is Sunset Strip's entry for Asian-Latino fusion, the menu choices range from big (to bigger) budget portions served family-style (try the savory calamari salad and finger-lickin' good coconut layer cake). You can choose to sit indoors or out - but keep in mind that the outdoor patio offers spectacular views and is one of the best in L.A. At night, Asia de Cuba is transformed into a luxuriously sexy soiree. Located inside the Mondrian at 8440 Sunset Blvd.

7. Mr. Chows: Another place for elbow-rubbing in Tinseltown. In Beverly Hills, the hotspots cool off fast, but this place has held its see and be-seen for what-seems-like eternity (Mr. Chows opened in 1973). Your Chinese food is "all grown up" and fancy here - Chows offers excellent dishes that will leave you wanting more (you must order the green prawns marinated in a spinach dressing and the grilled filet mignon). Psst... the best nights for celebrity star-sightings are Wednesdays and Thursdays. And you'll alwaysknow the caliber of celebs inside by the number of paparazzi reading their fortune cookies along the sidewalk. Mr. Chows is located at 344 N. Camden Dr. (and Wilshire Boulevard).

8. The Little Door: (La Brea/Miracle Mile) Looking for a romantic hideaway amid the hustle and bustle of L.A.? The Little Door (house-turned-restaurant) is your answer - just make sure you can find the place. With indoor and outdoor seating, this little place doesn't advertise, nor does it allow publicity - yes, it's that good! After you make your way past the two simple wooden doors, you'll find a romantic courtyard with canopy seating, a garden, twinkling candles, and an impeccable menu. The Little Door can be found at 8164 W. Third St. (Crescent Heights Blvd.).

9. Sushi Nozawa: (Studio City) Yes, it's in a strip mall (located at 11288 Ventura Blvd.). And, yes - the lights are brighter than the mid afternoon sun. But, take it from us, the decor isn't what matters - the sushi is what's important. And what's a little abuse as you order (word on the street is someone was once kicked out for requesting California rolls!), as long as you get to eat some of the best sushi this side of Tokyo!

10. Angelini Osteria: (La Brea/Miracle Mile) Mama mia - now that's amore! From the paper-thin pizza to the garlic-infused lasagna, everything here is scrumptious - though you may not guess it at first, as you waltz your way into the unassuming, often congested dining room in one of L.A.'s most celebrated Italian restaurants. Not only will you be greeted like family, you'll be offered a menu filled with some serious selections - don't forget to pay special attention to the desserts. You may even be privy to Justin Timberlake and his girl, Cameron, dining here (since this place tops their list). Located at 7313 Beverly Blvd. and Poinsettia Ave.

11. Sushi Roku: (West Hollywood) The beautiful interior is as noticeable as the people who flock here - many Hollywood deals ensue over the innovative and succulent sushi dishes. The "Cali touch" is evident in every dish, and the sake/beer options are limitless. Don't even think about leaving without tasting the scallop dynamite, the espresso profiteroles and the "Roppongi" (a mouth-watering mixture of vodka and sake served with a ginger stick). And, don't bother arriving without a reservation. Located at 8445 W. 3rd St. (between N. La Cienaga Blvd. and S. Croft Ave.).

12. Matsuhisa: (Beverly Hills) If you love your sushi and don't mind adventure - don't walk, run to this place. With groundbreaking cuisine, Matsuhisa offers more than 100 dishes. If you let us do your ordering, we are going with the unforgettable omakase tasting menu which begins with master chef Nobu Matsuhisa's signature cold dishes and ends with a procession of cooked dishes like Kobe beef and black cod in miso. Though the setting is modest, do not be fooled! The sushi here is as-good-as-it-gets. Matsuhisa is located at 129 N. La Cienaga Blvd. (and Wilshire Blvd.).

13. La Terza: (Beverly Hills) Sophisticated - Italian - Simplicity. Attached to the Orlando Hotel (formerly the Beverly Plaza), this multi-tiered, multi-faceted restaurant is flawless, in its menu selections and design. Tuesdays are "Tavola Italiana" night, when chef Nancy Silverton cooks up a table of antipasto choices in the middle of the restaurant. No reservations are taken here - so it's on a first-come, first-serve basis (and definitely worth showing up for!) La Terza is located at 8384 W. Third St. (at Orlando).

14. Massimo Ristorante and Bar: (Beverly Hills) Feel like a taste of Tuscany? Massimo, located just off Rodeo Drive in the heart of Beverly Hills (9513 S. Santa Monica Blvd.) is graced with celebrities and entertainment folk who are deep-rooted fans of Chef Massimo Ormani's authentic fare. Try the famous all-beef Bolognese dish. FYI: Massimo has most recently been on NBC's show "Recipe T.V." featuring the world's greatest Chefs.

15. A.O.C.: (La Brea/Miracle Mile) Perhaps not the first tapas restaurant in the city, but definitely the hottest! If grazing is an art form to you, A.O.C. is the place to be... sleek, modern and chic, the gang here is pure Hollywood glam. Almost everyone here looks and parties like a rock star regardless -- and they all come for the extensive wine list and the Mediterranean-influenced small plates. The menu changes daily, but be assured that each dish is savored by all. A.O.C. is located at 8022 W. 3rd St. (and Crescent Heights).

I Love LA Bars

L.A. has a lot to offer.

Bars & Nightlife

1. The Derby: (Los Feliz) "Swingers" wannabes hoping to catch a glimpse of Vince Vaughn or Jon Favreau join swing fans in this hotter-than-ever dance hall. With 1940's decor, live music (seven nights a week) and dance lessons, your whole posse will have a blast! FYI: The Derby was named a historical/cultural landmark by the Los Angeles City Council in May '06. Located at 4500 Los Feliz Blvd. (and Hillhurst Ave.).

2. LAX: (Hollywood) We've all been introduced to DJ AM by Nicole Ritchie - but he now needs no introduction! Known as one of the most sought out DJ's, DJ AM (a.k.a Adam Golstein) opened this first-class airport-themed lounge for all the L.A. jet-setters. Located in the heart of Hollywood, this destination hotspot boasts mirrors in the shape of airplane windows and metal hangar doors. The dance floor often gets cramped (similar to dancing in an airplane cabin), but it's tons of fun in a "Mile High Club" kinda way! LAX is located at 1714 Las Palmas Ave. (and Hollywood Blvd.).

3. Forty Deuce: (Melrose) The small parking lot across from Paramount Pictures houses this modern institution that's been transformed into a retro-cool lounge reminiscent of a 1920's speakeasy. The parlor-style seating, burlesque shows (strutting to the rhythm of a live jazz band) and fine cocktails keep the Hollywood crowd happy and partying until closing time. Located at 5574 Melrose Ave. (at Beachwood Dr.).

4. Barney's Beanery: (West Hollywood) In L.A., most people think that nothing can get better with age. But the city's third-oldest restaurant (located at 8447 Santa Monica Blvd. near La Cienaga Blvd.) manages to prove everyone in Hollywood wrong. Since opening its door nearly 90 years ago, it has attracted celebrities to regular Joe-shmoes who crave good ol' comfort food (your choice of 150 different burgers, 65 chilis and 90 omelettes). While many may refer to this as just a "dive", the good food and cheap drinks keep this Beanery jumping nightly. (Just make sure you bring your I.D. - even Johnny Drama got carded here recently!).

5. Stone Rose Lounge: (West Hollywood) This recently opened LA version of the NYC nightspot houses itself in the redone Sofitel Hotel (at 8555 Beverly Blvd., near La Cienaga Blvd.). A destination for young starlets (and the guys who want them) boasts a 5,000 square foot lounge and outdoor patio. While it's not your usual L.A. nightlife scene, this laid-back atmosphere with refined martinis and the outside fire pit cabanas are well worth visiting.

6. Social Hollywood: (Hollywood) What's old is new again! This place used to be the massive Hollywood Athletic Club and now boasts a lounge, restaurants, games rooms with PlayStations and Xboxes, a screening room and a private club. The Moroccan-inspired venue features food that has been strong right off the bat and a social scene which has won over the cool kids. Located at 6526 Sunset Blvd. (at Schrader Blvd.).

7. Sky Bar: Tagged as one of L.A.'s hottest nightclub spots since the day it opened, Sky Bar is open, airy and makes you feel like you're floating up in the clouds atop the Mondrian hotel (located at 8440 Sunset Blvd.). Boasting some of the most beautiful views in all of L.A. (along with its trees, pool and candlelight) and the cities most fashionable set - please don't let the long lines and bouncers deter you. If and when you do get past the red tape, please don't stare at that hunk that regularly appears on the pages of US Weekly and People!

8. Formosa Cafe: (West Hollywood) An area classic (served as the location for the movie L.A. Confidential), this Chinese-themed dimly-lit hotspot features red leather booths and a bar that serves intoxicatingly powerful martinis. Known as one of the movie industry's watering-holes, Formosa features autographed shots of Hollywood stars lining the walls (and you may even be lucky enough to spot Bono or Beck in one of the booths). Better for drinks than dinner (and make sure you dress the part to avoid hassles at the door). Formosa Cafe is located at 7156 Santa Monica Blvd. (between La Brea and Formosa Ave.).

9. Privilege: (West Hollywood) Madonna isn't the only one who knows how to reinvent herself. Nightlife guru Sam Nazarian knows all too well about reinvention. Before its new look and name, this club was known as a gothic playground called Shelter, a Nordic lounge, a St. Tropez-style resort and a mock construction site. Now Privilege is a sensuously white-on-white oasis that has the feel of a South Beach resort (sans the humidity and sand in between your toes). Saturdays are tough since Brent Bolthouse (godfather of celebrity events) hosts parties here - so if you can, opt for a weekday visit. Unless of course, you can get your name on the guest list or finagle past the ear-plugged security guards. Privelege is at 8117 W. Sunset Blvd. (and Crescent Heights Blvd.).

10. Guy's Bar: (West Hollywood) Ever wonder where the stars go for karaoke? You'll find the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Ritchie at this intimate and exclusive WeHo club. Guy's is a simple mishmash of cushy couches that's mostly reserved for private industry-related events. However, try this place on a Saturday (promoter-run) night when the door policy is a bit more relaxed (and yes, do show some leg!). Guy's Bar is located at 8713 Beverly Blvd.

11. Tropicana Bar: (Hollywood) Old Hollywood meets New Hollywood at this bar in L.A.'s Roosevelt Hotel - where you'll find stars lounging in style at an outdoor patio that boasts a 60's vibe with cozy plush seating and a glowing pool. A typical hipster joint, the bar is also a tropical oasis with neon-illuminated palm trees, private bungalows, a fireplace and linen-covered chaise lounges. If you're in no mood to rub elbows with the nighttime fashionista/glamourista crowd, Tropicana Bar is ideal for sunny CA afternoons. Just don't forget to notice the David Hockney blue-wave mural at the bottom of the pool at 7000 Hollywood Blvd.

12. The Bar: (Hollywood) Not just a bar, The Bar! Nestled between a gas station and a seedy hotel (5851 Sunset Blvd. and Bronson Ave.), this place is easy to miss. But those who find their way to one of Hollywood's hottest revamped watering holes will see newly renovated digs and eye-catching patrons. Some days you'll hear a rock n' roll jukebox blast the sounds of the Ramones, other days you'll find local DJ's spinning old and new pop. For those who feel like a cig, some air or just a break from the sounds, cram your way outside to the bamboo-lined smoking alley.

13. Mood: (Hollywood) This 6,500 square foot former office building at 6623 Hollywood Blvd. has been transformed into a tropical Garden of Eden - think South Pacific! The club's Balinese design boasts sensuous colors/textures and in-the-flesh trumpeters and bongo drummers that accompany the hip-hop and rap sounds that you'll hear. Stocked with exotic treasures made from bamboo, batik and carved wood, Mood draws sexy young Hollywood socialites and other glitz and glam from Tinseltown.

14. The Lounge: (West Hollywood) Okay, so here's the lowdown...This sexy Miami Beach-style club draws a great crowd with its borderline location (WeHo and Beverly Hills) and open-door policy. The Lounge boasts a main room with bar and dance floor, and a spiral staircase that leads up to a swanky lounge area filled with comfy booths and table service. DJ's here spin a dance-party mix of hip-hop, R&B and house music favorites. The Lounge is located at 9077 Santa Monica Blvd. (and Doheny Dr.).

15. Key Club: (West Hollywood) A state-of-the-art live music venue (located at 9039 Sunset Blvd. and Doheny Dr.) with futuristic audio, video and lighting technologies, Key Club is one of WeHo's most popular spots. The VIP area downstairs, called the Plush Lounge, is typically crammed with the Hollywood "It" crowd. A full restaurant and menu is also available on the second floor (reserving a table there is the secret to actually getting in on busy nights). Key Club features a few bars and plenty of ways to get your drink on - a perfect place to either start or end your night out on the Sunset Strip.

New York City Restaurants - journeyPod

OK, let's establish some ground rules. It's called the City, not Manhattan. And under no circumstance should you ever say New York City. Yes, we know some New Yorkers do take things a bit too far and say they are from the City even when they are visiting relatives in Tulsa - where the nickname really loses its luster.

Whatever it is you are trying to do while you're in the City, do it quickly and get out of the way. That applies to ordering at the deli (where do you think the Soup Nazi idea came from?), riding the escalators, crossing the street or buying a paper. Things have a faster pace up here and people like it that way. This City will eat you alive if you don't prepare properly.

But even with all of the millions of people scurrying around, you can still blend into the madness and fit right in. That's because everyone is too busy to notice you as they race to the subways, run to catch the ferries, or fight for a cab. New York has a "kick you in the teeth" attitude that can make you feel satisfied when you actually accomplish something. And, you know you earned it because you've just navigated thru all the madness. Here's a local tip so don't sound like a tourist when you are downtown- it's pronounced "How-Stin" even though it is spelled like Houston. SoHo means south of Houston - now go figure out NoHo on your own.

Immerse yourself in the City, with all it has to offer, and you'll understand why it's like no other place on earth. The diversity, the energy, the attitude - you can find anything and everything in the City that never (EVER) sleeps. There's always a new neighborhood to explore, another restaurant to try, another club to dance at, and another bar to drink in.

Dreams have been realized here since the first settlers and you can feel that same spirit as you walk the streets of each neighborhood. Where else can you see millionaires mingling seamlessly with the working class? From munching on their morning bagels to singing along with Frank Sinatra at the end of the Yankees game, New Yorkers share the local pride. Maybe it's because everyone has one thing in common - they've all lived in that 300 square foot studio apartment and paid $2000 a month for it. And why does everyone say their address like it's the most regal location in the known universe?

NYC was built (and still runs) on its neighborhoods. You'll find that each has its own character, so get out and explore. People from all walks of life are really what make this place so special.

Restaurants

New York has so many types of food - from American to Japanese, from French to Asian - you can find anything and everything in this City. Where else can you walk down the street and smell the aromas from innumerable food stands that line the streets and the kitchens that pack them in every night? The diversity of NYC is unparalleled to any other. Here are some of our favorites:

Gascogne: If you can't make it out to Paris, make sure you can find your way to this charming French bistro in the city's Chelsea district. With French-speaking waiters, indoor/outdoor seating and culinary indulgences, this place can make you forget you're in NYC! The escargots and foie gras are always a pleaser! Gascogne is located on Eighth Ave. (Between 17th & 18th Streets).

B-Bar and Grill (formerly Bowery Bar): A popular summertime setting with indoor/outdoor ambiance, B-Bar is great for summer drinks and dinner on the patio. The place is known to draw A-listers and occasional celebrities. The grill offers delicious appetizers and the calamari & popcorn shrimp are always a great choice! B Bar is located on East 4th & Bowery.

Per Se: You'll go running down the streets in glee after dining here (located at 10 Columbus Circle, between 58th and 59th Sts.). With a French-New American menu that changes daily, this pricey culinary experience is a worthwhile treat for your senses (the dishes are as delicious as they are colorful). Whatever you do, begin your meal with the "Oysters and Pears" and make sure you save enough room for the "Coffee and Doughnuts" dessert.

Il Mulino:This is the epitome of an Old New York hangout, the restaurant boasts some of the best Italian food you'll ever eat. Located in the West Village (on 86 W. Third St., between Sullivan & Thompson and near NYU), the place is small, crowded & quite loud, but the food makes it all worth while. Bring your appetite (portions are big enough to feed a small country) and your wallet.

Dos Caminos (Soho): With made-to-order guacamole and some of the best margaritas in town (in addition to more than 150 tequila selections), you can't go wrong with the city's top Mexican spot. With indoor and outdoor seating options, this place brings the fiesta downtown! Dos Caminos is located at West Broadway & Houston (along with a location on Park Avenue and a Midtown location opening in Fall '06).

Jean Georges: It's simple, French chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten can't get it wrong (ever!) This restaurant, inside the Trump International Hotel, is as sophisticated as it is superb. Located off Columbus Circle (1 Central Park West, between 60th and 61st Sts.), this divine masterpiece offers a formal dining room, more casual cafe and an outdoor terrace for those cool summer nights. Don't you dare leave without sampling the baby scallops and the four-part citrus tasting.

Babbo: Who doesn't love Mario Batali? With its trademark pasta tasting menu, make sure you aren't watching your waistline when you arrive at this two-story townhouse. You'll find that the simplest ingredients have never tasted so good! Everything is tasty but we fancy the ravioli with beef cheeks and the goat cheese tortellini. Reservations are a must. Babbo is located at 110 Waverly Pl., between 6th Ave. and MacDougal.

Una Pizza Napoletana: Seriously, who needs Italy? This is, by far, the best pizza in the City - "The Best, Jerry...the best." Each bite is light, fragrant and oh-so delish! The buffalo mozzarella is shipped directly from Italy and pairs nicely with the finger-licking-good basil-infused tomato sauce. Una Pizza (349 E. 12th St., between 1st and 2nd Aves.) is not to be missed.

Bouchon Bakery: Located on Columbus Circle in the Time Warner Building, this casual French Boulangerie is anything but plain. You'll find everything from mouth-watering fresh croissants, to good-ol' PB&J sandwiches. This place has the best tuna fish sandwich we've ever had. And, did we mention they make their own hand-made chocolates?

Momofuku Noodle Bar: If you need a quick ramen fix - this is your spot. Just be prepared to wait (they don't take reservations). And, if you don't mind getting packed in like sardines and eating thigh-to-thigh with your fellow patrons - find your way to this amazing noodle bar. The three-variety steamed buns (pork, chicken or shitake) are worth the trip and the wait. Momofuku is located at 163 First Ave. (at 10th St.).

NYC was built (and still runs) on its neighborhoods. You'll find that each has its own character, so get out and explore. People from all walks of life are really what make this place so special.

Bars & Nightlife

The City comes alive at night (and its usually when most are tucking themselves in for a good night's sleep!). Times Square has more lights than a sound stage and feels like midday even at 2:00 am. With so many people in town each and every night (and I mean, each and every night) there are plenty of special occasions that must be celebrated. Whether you're out for a birthday, promotion, or the eminent "Girls Night Out" - here are some journeyPod Picks:

Maritime Hotel: Yes, we are listing a hotel as a pick for our Nightlife category and it's not because of what goes on behind closed hotel room doors. The entire city block is just one big open air extravaganza right out of South Beach. Located at 363 West 16th St. (at Ninth Ave.), this place was once the headquarters for the National Maritime Union. Now, it's a glamorous Chelsea Hotel that draws a trendy nightlife scene. Among its hot spots are Matsuri - sushi restaurant, a Japanese-themed nightclub called Hiro and La Bottega - a bar/trattoria which extends outside into a 6,000 square foot patio. Ah, and how can we forget to mention the party cabanas on the terrace?!

Pacha: Talk about a high energy import that lets you explore the vibe of Ibiza without stepping foot outside NYC (located at 618 W. 46th St. - between 11th Ave. and West Side Hwy). This international nightclub transports club-goers from NYC to the steamy tropics, featuring four floors (and 30,000 square feet) of options. Navigate a maze of staircases, palm trees, mirrors and tarp canopies. You'll find drop down projection screens, staging runways, and intimate retreats (check out the Jacuzzi-style booths).

Passerby: Screwdrivers are back and somehow they made the Greyhound even cooler. Their juicer will freshen up your cocktails and their glowing "Saturday Night Fever" dance floor will liven up your evening. A stylish little hole-in-the-wall that features great drinks and an easy, laid-back crowd. Passerby is located at 436 W. 15th St. (between Ninth & 10th Aves.).

White Horse Tavern: A super-popular West Village institution, White Horse Tavern is quiet, literary, and features lots of wood - a former haunt of Dylan Thomas. Good for a few laid-back Happy Hour pints with old friends and colleagues. Just make sure you're not watching your waste line if you decide to order grub - the big juicy burgers and slab-cut fries are worth the calories! White Horse Tavern is located on Hudson & 11th Street.

Bungalow 8: With so many luxuries offered at this honeymoon-suite locale, who has anytime for sleep? If you're looking for great drinks and interesting snacks, this mini-resort provides it. A hospitality-themed lounge, Bungalow 8 offers everything but the mint on your pillow. Perfect for night-owls who have trouble turning in. Bungalow 8 is located at 515 W. 27th St. (between 10th & 11th Aves.).

Gypsy Tea: Despite the name, there's no Stevie Nicks vibe here. But what you will find is a two-level hip-hop destination where you'll often see sections full of A-listers from the fashion and celebrity world. With four unique lounge settings (and over 10,000 square feet) of banquette-like seating, cushy pillars, a grand aquarium and room to dance, most flock to Gypsy Tea for its VIP section and bottle service. Make sure to taste the house specialty - The Gypsy Cosmo! Rated 2005's Hottest New Lounge, Gypsy Tea can be found at 22 W. 24th St. (between 5th & 6th Aves.).

Pink Elephant: Bring a few credit cards and your swankiest shoes when you visit this luxurious bottle service venue (located at 527 W. 27th St., between 10th & 11th Aves.). With a pheromone-shooting scent machine, you'll find your libido-sparking hormones at full attention and the scene completely intoxicating! The door can be tough, but worth the trouble for the crowd AND staff you'll find when you enter the gates. Pink Elephant boasts a kinetic lighting system, argon lasers and a liquid nitrogen gas tank catapulted from the ceiling (for those moments when the dance floor gets too heated).

Tortilla Flats: There's a party every night at this small Tex-Mex joint. Great for food and margaritas (try the strawberry one - you can get them by the pitchers), Tortilla Flats is a cheap and fun cantina that's always crowded with post-work folks looking for a good time. Its located on Washington Street & 12th.

Trailer Park Lounge: Located at 23rd Street (between 7th & 8th Avenues) this place is an ode to an old trailer park - screen door, unmatched vinyl chairs, velvet pictures of Elvis, Marilyn and more. This is the place to be if you want good comfort food (try the sweet potato fries, tator tots and mac n' cheese) and big potent drinks (the margaritas are the size of your head!) after a hellish day with the boss. With its kitschy decor, Trailer Park is a great place - sans pretension or attitude.

Dive 75: A dimly lit watering hole with four TV's, 19 beers on tap, a free Wi-Fi connection, a 155-gallon fish tank, board games up the kazoo (Uno, Monopoly, Connect Four) and friendly waiters that make you feel like home - who needs anything else? Dive 75 (located at 101 W. 75th St. - between Columbus and Amsterdam Aves.) is no dive at all!.

BLVD: If you want a lounge, a dance-floor and food under one roof - this is the place that delivers all three (and with class). Located on Bowery (at Spring Street) BLVD is a mega one-stop shop that you can check out for a pre-dinner drink or to spend the entire evening. Great for a first date and when you're not sure where the night is going to take you (no need for an "emergency phone call from a friend") - its easy to get lost in the crowd in this tri-level complex.

b.e.d. N.Y.: Manhattan, we'd like you guys to meet South Beach. Beautiful people, beautiful space - this bi-level penthouse located at W. 27th Street, is the city's first downtown restaurant that offers two dining floors, a 360-degree rooftop view of the midtown skyline and beds for dining, drinking, and just chillin. The beds invite everyone to be a wee bit more "free spirited." Whoever said you can't dress up to go to bed?

Sutton Place: This laid back, yet hip bar is your multi-option destination. Whether you're meeting your BF for some late night drinks or just watching the big game, Sutton Place is where it's at. The venue features 15 televisions with four large-screen projectors, a separate lounge with a fireplace and a 46 foot rooftop retreat. Sutton Place is located at 1015 2nd Ave. (between 53rd and 54th Sts.).

230 Fifth: Planning an after-work soiree with your colleagues or a weekend nightcap with your new guy? This expansive (can accommodate nearly 1,000 guests) deco-style penthouse lounge and tropical wraparound rooftop have views that even Trump should envy! Where else can you find almost 360 (unobstructed) degree views alongside palm trees? 230 Fifth is located where else but, 230 Fifth? (At the corner of 27th St.).

Le Bryant Park Cafe: A trendy outdoor bar perfect for singles and people watching during those balmy summer nights in NYC. Sitting at this place in the warmer months can make you feel like you're in Paris. They host free jazz and other performances throughout the week (with free outdoor movie nights on Mondays). During off season, the singles scene travels indoor to the Bryant Park Grill. The Cafe is located at 476 5th Ave. (at 41st St.).

Shopping

It's the only city in the world where you can forget to pack your little black dress and you're not out of luck. Just simply run across the street and buy anything you need with ease. That brings us to a journeyPod Pick for all you shopaholics out there. Century 21 (which is way downtown, but worth the cab fare or subway to 22 Cortland St., between Church & Bdwy.). No, not the real estate moguls - Century 21 is a retail store with great deals on top designers and a bargain-hunter's dream. If brand names are your weakness, you'll savor every moment while pawing through the medley of racks of designer duds. Where else can you pick up an Armani suit at 50% off or save hundreds on that dress that's all the rage?
