I was playing around with one of the images of a shepherd which i had taken in Rajasthan using my iPhone a while ago and tried to apply some of the most commonly used (and overused) filters in post processing tools in the market. Atleast to my eyes, the overall perception of the images changes with application of these so called stereotype vintage filters. When I say perception am not talking about what the image is communicating, but the overall point of making all the images look same by applying similar filters to all sort of images (weather its food in a plate in hotel or landscape or modern building or people or even footwear on beach or for that matter girl in front of a mirror in bathroom). I went one step further and tried to apply some presets from Lightroom and Photoshop to see how an image will look if processed on a computer and results are no different.

I am not a fan of either Instagram or Hipsmatic or anything similar, but seeing the smarphone image database on web and the number of people using such apps/filters really amuses me.

So one thing i really want to ask myself and others reading this blog is – “Why do you want to make something look vintage when its not vintage ?”

Hola !! Sorry been away from the blog for few weeks now. My day job keeping me bit more occupied than i expected in the last few weeks/months. Should be sorted out in a couple of weeks where in i will have lot of new things to show and share with you folks. I wanted to share with you all a small set of images taken by my sis over at Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Having been to two parts of the world where tulip festivals are famous but not seen one till date – i feel very excited to share these images taken by my sis with JTN readers for you all to see and enjoy and appreciate a humble attempt by her to portray the colors of nature.

Today is that day of the year when I just step out of all the traditional travel and nature photo related posts and random ramblings, but dedicate this post to my dear sister without whom neither me nor JTN would have been what it is today. She is one person who not only encourages me with what ever i do ( even mistakes ) but also ensures she kicks me on my back to ensure i correct it and go in the right path ( atleast she tries ). So without any delay heres me wishing my dearest sis Archie a very very happy birthday. Wish you a many many more of wonder ful years ahead and do continue to support ( and also kick me on my back ).

And most of you who have been following this blog for last few years know that, this post is not complete without a traditional “announce something new related to web” writings. Usually i update my website to look something new or similar, but this year due to time constraints i was/am not able to complete something which i wanted to share with you folks on this day – but am happy to disclose that I will be a launching a all new identity and branding which is outside my “Journey Through Nature” platform which will showcase my non nature and travel photography portfolio but also will be a platform where you would see something really new and exciting things with regard to photography and video services.  There will be regular updates regarding a movie that am currently working on and showcase photos and videos of some commercial work that am doing outside the JTN portfolio. I will stick to and continue to update and maintain JTN blog as thats my primary base, but this new venture which will be accessible under “www.shivakumar.net” will be my portoflio for various other genres of work and updates reg a surprise element am working on for the photo industry in coming months. I will post a new blog and will share the link to the new site in few days/weeks time. Until then . . .

Starting off the week with some sample real world images that i shot a week ago with the new Canon EOS 6D. Its a very impressive little camera ( for its size and price point ) and the type of results it delivers. Just late last week i had posted a video i shot at Nandi hills using the Canon 6D which you can find here, and in this blog i want to expose you to some sample images from Canon 6D. As promised a week ago, i shall be posting some of my thoughts using this camera and what i like or dislike in this camera compared to the Canon 5D Mark II/III in a few days.

PS: All the images in this blog are posted so as to give you a idea of how well the camera performs for Travel & Nature photography needs (resolution, dynamic range, colors, lowlight, etc). I havent had a chance to fire the camera for specific things like Wedding/Glamour/Wildlife ( and all other things under the sun ). So feel free to rent one from our friends at BookMyLens and test it for your needs before swiping your card for the next big purchase.
