ONE GREAT TRUTH: Before Bibles, God communicated the gospel to Israel in the wilderness through the symbolism of the tabernacle, and it still points us to intimacy with Christ today.

The Tabernacle speaks ofhellip;

1.	The person and work of Christ.
2.	The presence of God among His people.
3.	The provision of a sacrifice for sin.
4.	The protection of Godrsquo;s presence.
5.	The purifying of Godrsquo;s people.

There are other stories told by the tabernacle as well. We may not have time to explore them all, but wersquo;ll try.

CHRIST IN THE TABERNACLEhellip;

1.	The materials represent all aspects of Christrsquo;s person and work. (25:1-9)
2.	The ark represents Christ on the throne of judgment and mercy. (25:10-22)
3.	The table of showbread represents Jesus as the Bread of Life. (25:23-30)
4.	The candlestick represents Christ as the Light of the world. (25:31-40)
5.	The curtains and bars and veils represent Godrsquo;s separateness from sinners. (26:1-30)
6.	The inner veil represents close intimacy with God. (27:31-35)
7.	The outer veil contains a door, representing Christ as the only door to God. (26:31-37)
8.	The brazen altar represents the cross - the place of sacrifice. (27:1-15)
9.	The gate of the court represents Jesus as the narrow gate. (27:16-19)
10.	The oil for the light represents the warmth of fellowship with Godrsquo;s Holy Spirit. (27:20-21)

The major message for Israel and our generation is that the veil has been opened ndash; wersquo;ve been invited to participate in full and intimate fellowship with the Father.</itunes:summary>

GREAT TRUTH: We like to think that we can build a portfolio of good works that will impress God with our obedience ndash; this is the mentality of sinful humanity. Thankfully, God has provided His Son knowing wersquo;ll never be able to save ourselves by trying to keep all of His laws.

In our journey through the word, wersquo;re about to enter the section of Scripture that concerns itself with the building of the tabernacle. You might be thinking this is time for a vacation from church, but I want to challenge you to see how the story of the tabernacle is really an amazing depiction of our intimacy with Jesus.

Just before the construction of the tabernacle is a story that really illustrates our story. The people tell Moses theyrsquo;ll do anything and everything God commands them, so Moses builds an altar. Then it gets repeated ndash; ldquo;wersquo;ll do it allrdquo; and Moses speaks of the blood. Thatrsquo;s us ndash; trying to do it all. And thatrsquo;s God ndash; offering the blood of His Son.

Titus 3:3-7 spells out these truths for us in relationship to Christhellip; not by our works of righteousness, but by the washing of Christrsquo;s blood and regeneration.

OUR PLANhellip; Irsquo;ll Do It All For You God

Irsquo;ll keep every rule. (the thou shalt notrsquo;s)
Irsquo;ll keep every obligation. (the thou shaltrsquo;s)

GODrsquo;S PLANhellip; No, Irsquo;ll Do It All For You

Jesus ldquo;tabernacledrdquo; among us and died as our sacrifice because we canrsquo;t do it all ndash; we wonrsquo;t do it all. But He did it all. He kept every point and paid the full price of my sin. Now I must simply trust Him.</itunes:summary>

ONE GREAT TRUTH: The greatest kind of freedom is living in obedience to Godrsquo;s revealed will.

A year or two ago, a radio station gave away a year of free living ndash; somebodyrsquo;s bills were paid for an entire year so they could ldquo;live for free.rdquo; Wersquo;ve been bought by the blood of Christ so that we can take advantage of living for free as well ndash; all of our sin debt has been paid.

The Bible says we can use our liberty as an occasion for the flesh (to sin), or we can use our freedom to live fully for Christ. God gave His people a lot of guidance for living in freedomhellip;

KEYS TO FREE LIVINGhellip;

1.	Respect the freedom of others. (21:1-11)
2.	Preserve justice in the world. (21:12-36)
3.	Respect the property of others. (22:1-15)
4.	Fight for human rights. (22:16-28)
5.	Be a giver. (22:29-30)
6.	Pursue holiness. (22:31)
7.	Look out for the poor. (23:1-9)
8.	Treat the land well. (23:10-11)
9.	Live with balance. (23:12)
10.	Commit to worship. (23:13-19)
11.	Follow Godrsquo;s leading every step of the way. (23:20-33)

This is an impressive passage about walking hand-in-hand with God. Itrsquo;s not meant to give us a lengthy list of rules to live by, rather to teach us what it is to walk in wisdom and holiness in this life we live for God.

Are you making the most of your freedom by living in full obedience to God?</itunes:summary>

ONE GREAT TRUTH: Between tyrannical enslavement and rebellious freedom is a life lived as a self-dedicated servant of the ultimate Master ndash; Jesus Christ. This kind of servanthood means the ultimate freedom.

In the minutes of the church in which I grew up is found an interesting history. The church was founded in 1833, three decades before the Civil War began and the church was started by a group of less than thirty people, eight of whom were slaves. But in 1964, those slaves were asked to leave the church, so they started New Salem Baptist Church about one mile away. Now the two churches fellowship together, but they originally split from each other over the issue of whether slavery was biblical or not.

Wersquo;re entering into a portion of Exodus that is all about the laws by which the people of Israel were to govern themselves, but wersquo;re going to look at the first section all by itself, primarily because of one picture that can be seen. Itrsquo;s the picture of a voluntary (indentured) servant giving up rights to himself permanently to serve a master faithfully.

1.	Everybody ought to be free.

The Bible addresses slavery a multitude of times. Though perhaps not as much today, this used to be an extremely controversial topic. Just over a century ago, our nation divided religiously over this issue as some sought to justify slavery on biblical grounds and others defended freedom, also on biblical grounds. So what does the Bible say about slavery?

a.	Itrsquo;s wrong to force anyone into slavery. (v. 16)
b.	Itrsquo;s wrong to own people. (1 Timothy 1:10)
c.	Itrsquo;s wrong to mistreat people who serve us. (Colossians 4:1)

2.	Everybody serves a master.

In Matthew 6:24, Jesus tells us that we canrsquo;t serve two masters ndash; God and money ndash; at the same time. I think Jesus had keen insight into the fact that we would be serving a master, no matter what. It will either be self or someone else, money or something else.

I donrsquo;t have to ask you today if you serve somebody ndash; I already know you do. The question is whom?

3.	Real freedom is serving the right Master.

This is difficult for us to realize. Everything in us cries out for freedom and independence, which is Godrsquo;s desire for us. What we have a hard time with is the truth that our greatest freedom comes from serving.

This is illustrated well in 1 Corinthians 7:22hellip; When we are slaves, we are free in Christ. When we are free, we are slaves to Christ. Think of the picture Moses gives us ndash; when a servant made a permanent contract with a single owner for life, his ear was permanently marked as a sign of ownership. What a picture of the Christian life. As a blood-bought believer, I am not my own anymore ndash; Irsquo;ve been bought with a price and I belong to Jesus eternally! Irsquo;ll serve Him forever!

Remember the words of that songhellip; ldquo;He set me free, oh He set me free. He broke the bonds of prison for mehellip;rdquo;

Are you really free, or do you just think you are? The better question is, are you a servant of Christ?</itunes:summary>

		<itunes:summary>Exodus 20:17

ONE GREAT TRUTH: We will never be truly and eternally satisfied until we find our satisfaction in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. How many of us have seen a cow with its head stuck so far under the barbed wire that it seemed unlikely it would ever recover? We people are the same way. We buy things we donrsquo;t need with money we donrsquo;t have to impress people we donrsquo;t even like ndash; all because of our breaking of this tenth commandment.

The commandment not to covet is, in a sense, the most piercing of all the ten, for it sees far deeper than our actions into our mind and heart and soul. It calls into question the thoughts and intents of the heart. You can claim innocence of the acts of murder and theft, but never of coveting. We are all guilty!

A DEFINITION OF COVETOUSNESShellip;

There are a lot of ideas about what covetousness is, but I like this one by Adrian Rogers: ldquo;To covet means to have an unlawful desire for that which is not rightfully yours. Itrsquo;s that simple. Desires arenrsquo;t wrong, but unlawful desires are.

A CULTURE OF COVETOUSNESShellip;

We live in the midst of a culture of covetousness. It is ingrained in us to ldquo;keep up with the Jonesrsquo;.rdquo; Products and lifestyles are marketed to us in such a way that is hard to resist. This is a generation of consumeristic thinking ndash; wersquo;re taught that we can havehellip; no, musthave it all.

A BIBLICAL HISTORY OF COVETOUSNESShellip;

Our culture of consumerism is nothing new. It began in the ageless past when Satan coveted the throne of God. The Bible recounts extreme covetousness in the stories of Gehazi, Solomon, Ananias and Sapphira, etc.

FROM COVETOUS TO CONTENThellip;

Philippians 4:10-20

1. Appreciate what you have.
2. Understand what you (really) need.
3. Find your sufficiency in Christ.
4. Be ready to give to others.

The issue of contentment really boils down to that one question ndash; are you satisfied in Christ? </itunes:summary>

We live in a culture of lyinghellip; 91% of Americans admit to lying on a regular basis. We expect our political leaders to lie to get into office and we often simply vote for the one whom we think has lied the least to get where he is.

A BIBLICAL SURVEY OF DISHONESTYhellip;

1.	In Genesis, Satan told Eve a lie and humankind has been following His example since.
2.	The Bible is a history book on lying and conspiracy, including the false witnesses against Jesus on the cross.
3.	Satan is said to be the inventor of lies and the father of them in John 8:44.
4.	Revelation 21:8 tells us that liars will be sent to the lake of fire.

We must choose between being false witnesses and faithful witnesses.

HOW TO BE A FALSE WITNESShellip;

Perjury, hypocrisy, slander, gossip, insinuation, and breaking our promises/vows to others, as well as keeping sin alive but hidden in the shadows are all ways that we deceive others. Lying has been defined as when we purposely deceive others ndash; when itrsquo;s our intent to deceive for our own good and/or to the harm of someone else.

HOW TO BE A FAITHFUL WITNESShellip;

1.	Honor the absolute truth of Godrsquo;s Word. (John 17:17)
2.	Speak the truth to others. (Ephesians 4:15, 25)
3.	Be a promise keeper.</itunes:summary>

Clint Eastwood once said, ldquo;A man needs to know his limitations.rdquo; I think we need to see the limitations of our churches ndash; whatrsquo;s holding us back? I have some thoughtshellip;

1.	We are small minded, but Jesus sees a potential for reaching the masses.

By small-minded, I mean wersquo;re limited in what we think we can do. Wersquo;re sometimes not even the little engine that could ndash; wersquo;re the little engine that was perfectly fine just doing ministry at the bottom of the hill. Forget the mountain. After all, wersquo;re just a small church and we canrsquo;t possibly compete with the world, so why try?

But Jesus saw the throngs of people coming out of Samaria to the well that day, and his heart broke for them. He encouraged His disciples to look at them as a ready harvest, and they didnrsquo;t get it.

2.	We are short-sighted, but Jesus sees the eternal effects of changed lives.

We often forget the eternal effects, and even the long-term, here-and-now effects of someone coming to know Christ or having their life changed by an experience with God. Our spirituality has inter-generational effects and eternal effects. We can influence a generation for Christ.

3.	We are self-centered, but Jesus is God-centered and others-oriented.

I hate to admit it, but a favorite movie of mine is Mary Poppins. One of the lessons taught is when Mary explains to Jane and Michael that their father canrsquo;t see past the end of his nose. They want to give their toppins to the lady who feeds the birds, but the Dad wants them to put it in the bank ndash; he doesnrsquo;t even notice the woman because he canrsquo;t see past the end of his nose. By the end of the movie, hersquo;s redeemed himself, but wersquo;re a lot like that too.

Going to camp reminded me that when we strip away our busy to do lists, televisions, cell phones, etc. we are forced to notice the real needs that exist in peoplersquo;s lives. We can be God-centered (living in His will and joining in His work) and others-oriented.

Lanny Wolfe wrote these wordshellip;
My house is full, but my field is empty,
Who will go and work for Me today.
It seems my children want to stay around my table,
But no one wants to work my fields,
No one wants to work my fields.</itunes:summary>

Acts 1:1-3

ONE GREAT TRUTH: Humanity nailed Godrsquo;s gift of His Son to a cross and buried Him. After His resurrection, God gave Him for another 40 days to infallibly prove His victory and authority over sin and death forever!

I can remember attending a funeral when I was a child, and not fully understanding everything that was happening. For some reason, it deeply impacted me and after the family was clearing from the casket at the graveside service, I wanted to linger there. The same thoughts crossed my mind at the funeral of my grandfather who died when I was about 14.

FORTY DAYShellip;

1.	To Show Himself.

Hebrews 1:1-2.

Throughout His earthly life, Jesus revealed God to sinful humanity. God actually came and built a tabernacle of human flesh among us. But this revelation was never more clear and abundant than in His resurrection body ndash; glorified and readied for His return to heaven. What a privilege that He showed this to His apostles, and what a privilege that He wants to show us Himself today!

2.	To Prove His Resurrection.

Many infallible proofshellip;
a.	The catch of fish.
b.	The upper room meetings.
c.	The touch of Thomas.
d.	The gathering of more than 500 disciples.

3.	To Speak About the Kingdom.

What did He say about the Kingdom? Wouldnrsquo;t we like to know? We do understand that His agenda changed. Up until the cross, His agenda was to foretell of His impending death for sin. But now, His focus is on two things: the Kingdom, and its expansion.</itunes:summary>
