This morning our creative team and account management team switched job roles and came up with creative and media buys for an imaginary client. We thought it would be a great way to see what the people on the other side of the office actually do on a regular basis. It was enlightening, the say the least. In the end we decided to leave the media buying and creative design to the professionals…but it sure was fun!

Today at the Fresno Advertising Federation luncheon, guest speaker Ann Evanston discussed various ways businesses and entrepreneurs can enhance their social media presence.

While her entire presentation was completely thought-provoking and interesting, the biggest thing I took away from her presentation is that no matter what, we need to be ourselves in life and in business. She used the following quote from Dr. Seuss.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

No matter what type of business you are in, being yourself is the most important thing.

If you can go out and be who you are and represent yourself and your company in an honest and upfront way, there shouldn’t be anything that can get in your way of success.

Take a look at how you interact with your customers and co-workers. Are you being authentic? Are you really engaging and trying to learn?

Dr. Seuss put it best…

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You’re on your own.

And you know what you know.

And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

Look at what we made! It’s the new JP Marketing website and we’re pretty proud of it. Take a look around and see what’s new at JP. Check out our portfolio, our new blog, our Twitter feed, our mouth-watering food pictures on the front page and our new bios. It’s all good stuff.

At the beginning of 2011, we decided to dedicate ourselves to moving forward while embracing the way we have always operated. Like a family. So we began using the kitchen as a metaphor for how we do business. The kitchen is where we congregate as a family so it seemed like a natural fit to describe how we operate with clients.

So tell all your friends about the cool new stuff in the JP kitchen!

One of the best parts of working at JP, for me, is our ability to argue and have conflict that resolves not in kowtowing or acquiescence but with understanding and knowledge. Here’s another take on an age old JP discussion.

The 2011 Addy’s are TONIGHT at the 1401 Grand in Downtown Fresno and we’re ALL pretty excited. MO is wearing shoes that make her 19’ tall, Gabe was less than a half hour late to work, Paul is wearing his good turtleneck, Josh is sporting his good orange knit cap and I even trimmed my beard last night. Yeah. It’s THAT kind of of excited at JP.

What I love most about the Addy’s is the opportunity to gather with other people in town doing the sort of stuff we’re doing and celebrating our cumulative work to create great advertising for businesses in Fresno and beyond. The chance to show each other that sort of work Fresno can be proud of is too good to miss.

So we won’t miss it. JP Marketing will be there IN FORCE!!! Having a rocking good time and (hopefully) bringing home a few plaques. SEE YA THERE!!!
