We are excited to announce that we came home from this year’s Addy Awards with a Gold Addy for the project we completed for our friends at Virtual Graphics.

This year’s Addy Awards, presented by American Advertising Federation / Greater Lehigh Valley, were held at the Renaissance in Allentown with a James Bond theme. Unfortunately neither Daniel Craig nor Sean Connery were able to attend.

Congratulations to our friends and colleagues on their awards as well!

An exciting new label solution company, Virtual Graphics, recently approached us to help with their website and marketing materials. With only having minor branding pieces in place, we had a great opportunity to create something fresh for this new brand. Starting with their logo, we revamped their branding with a strong, simple icon that pairs with scalable type for their various needs. Tack on an intuitive website, overview video, and various marketing materials, and Virtual Graphics is setup with the tools they need to promote their business.

I’ve been dealing with online vendors, firms and organizations for 20 years. There is simply no competition, J Taylor Design is the best I’ve work with. Creative, adaptable, involved, and act like they are part of your company. Couldn’t ask for more and I recommend them to anyone.

New Website Design For Northampton Community College

When NCC reached out regarding their website project, we were very excited about the potential to put something really nice together. Being an NCC alumnus, it is very rewarding having the opportunity to work with the college.

We were brought on to help with the overall website design as well as frontend HTML / CSS development of the site. From there, the talented marketing team at the college took what we provided to implement into their management system. Over the coming months, we’ll be working with the college to help refine interior areas of the website that still need some attention.

J Taylor Design provided our college with a distinctive, high-quality website that allows us to stand out in the higher education arena. Throughout the redesign process, J Taylor Design was always available to answer any questions and consistently delivered on time. We are very pleased with the final outcome!

We are proud to be involved to help accomplish the goals of the college. You can take a look at the website at www.northampton.edu

We are excited to share the finished newsletter design for our friends at J.G. Petrucci. With this project, we were able to continue to progress the overall branding by incorporating the new styles we helped develop for their website, ad campaigns, and more.

In addition to the design of the newsletter itself, we also had a hand in the majority of the photography featured which includes artistic industrial, commercial, residential, and event photography. And a huge thank you to their awesome marketing director for developing clean, organized content!

Add Select All To Gravity Forms Checkboxes

We recently needed to setup a hefty form with a lot of checkboxes for a client. In our case, the client needed the user to select every single checkbox within each group of checkboxes. The user could do this one-by-one, but with over 100 checkboxes spread across 12 sections, it would definitely take a while.

To simplify, we needed to add a Check All option to the top of the list of each of the checkbox groups. That way the user could simply click and select everything in that group. However, Gravity Forms does not have this function built in, so we needed a solution. Adding Check All Option To Gravity Forms Checkbox Group
The solution is a clean bit of jQuery we found on a forum thanks to AshWebStudio. It works by adding a custom CSS class to the checkbox group while editing the form and having the first option be your Check All option.

Step One
Drop this bit of jQuery before the closing body tag in the footer.php file in your WordPress theme. Bonus points for only calling it on the pages that need it.

$(document).ready(function(){
  // Check all in Gravity Forms
  $('.checkall li:first-child input').click(function() {
    $(this).parent('li').parent('ul').find(':checkbox').attr('checked', this.checked);
  });
});

Step Two
In WordPress when editing the form, add a custom CSS class of checkall under the Appearance tab of each checkbox group that needs it. Then be sure to have the first checkbox in the group say something like Check All or Select All.

Once finished, update your form and test it out. If it is not working for you, first double check these 2 simple steps - then if you are still having trouble, try disabling all other plugins as there could be a scripting conflict you need to address.

Step Three
Add a CSS class to your stylesheet to the new Check All box to help it stand out. You would want to target .checkall li:first-child. Obviously this isn’t a requirement, but in our case we wanted to highlight the key option for each group.

Bonus: Add Select Count Minimum and Maximum Limits

Using Gravity Wiz Limit Checkboxes add-on, you can set a minimum and / or maximum select count requirement to the checkbox group. In our example, we had to make sure every single checkbox is selected - and the built in “required” option does not do the trick since that only looks for a minimum of 1 selected checkbox.

We have been proud to work with our friends over at Amaryllis Tattoo since they opened up shop. Amaryllis is certainly special where you can feel the difference from other shops when you walk through their doors.

With their new website, we wanted to capture that as much as we could. Starting with some new custom photography, we designed a modern website that helps effectively tell their story. The website looks absolutely beautiful! I can’t tell you how many times I go on it just to page through and enjoy it.

New Branding In Place For Easton Based CrossFit Gym

We have been proud to work with our friends over at CrossFit Advanced since they opened up shop back in 2010. Over the years we helped develop their branding, photography / videos, website, and more. This year marked some big additions to the facility and admin side for CFA. To cap off a big year, we were excited to redevelop and now finally share the new branding. The goal was to design a brand that fit the style and atmosphere of the facility, was scalable for varied use, and had an icon which could be used on its own. The result is just that: a clean modern look with an icon that scales based how it needs to be applied.

Now in application on new banners, tshirts, stickers, and more, we’re excited to put this new brand into action on their website and videos in 2017.

It is always a great experience working with J Taylor Design. Our new logo and branding looking hip, amazing, simple, clean and concise - that is the ticket these days. Thanks for also always being a pleasure to work with!

New Website And Photography for New York City Based Multi-Talented Artist

I have personally had the great opportunity to grow up with a number of talented individuals - one of whom is a multi-talented film and television editor, director of photography, and voiceover artist. There were multiple goals with this project:

We needed landing sections for each discipline
We needed a news component separate from the disciplines
We needed scalable project pages to highlight base info, awards, and credits
We needed a dynamic resume based on the section the user is on
We needed to tie in social sharing
And, of course, we needed to be mobile friendly

Organization. It is a key component for most things we do in life, and is definitely key when working on a new website. Having a great outline for what we needed, we were able to help develop a network-style strategy which involved a new brand, some custom photography, and a new primary domain name.

...With Carl
The foundation of the idea came with the creation of the new domain name: withcarl.com. This would serve as the base domain which would house the news and press articles, as well as be a funnel into the primary disciplines. From there, we have subdomains for each discipline which allows the domain to read like a short sentence: Cut With Carl, Shoot With Carl, and Voice With Carl. It is a subtle detail, but definitely adds character.

This option also allows Carl to direct individual users to those subdomains with the content relative to their personal conversations. That user can then see the content that is specific to their discussions, see the relative resume, then also be able to see the other disciplines if need be.

J Taylor Design listened closely to my needs and designed a fresh and elegant website that makes my brand look stellar. On top of that, their beautiful custom photography added a one of a kind personal touch.

Testing The Canon 5D Mark IV With The Sun In Frame

This weekend, I had the opportunity to put the new Canon 5D Mark IV to work with some adorable subjects. I wanted to shoot with the setting sun in frame to test how well the camera handled the more difficult focus, and as a result how sharp the files would be.

There are a ton of articles available online covering the traditional reviews like image quality, model comparisons, etc. Rather than follow that path, I thought I would do something a little different. This was the first session I did with the new camera outside of snapping a few photos around the office after taking it out of the box. For this session, I was shooting with the Canon 70-200mm 2.8L lens on the Mark IV. I also used a Profoto B2 with an umbrella and diffuser to avoid only getting silhouettes of the puppies.

Sharpness / Focus With The Sun In Frame
The out of camera shots are a little soft which is not terrible given the sun is heavily in the frame. Tied to that, autofocusing was hit an miss as well as the camera struggled to read the scene. If I was working in a more controlled situation (basically not fast moving puppies) I would have likely setup a tripod and used Live View to manual focus instead. But I was able to get a good handful of shots despite the autofocus challenge.

Sample 5D Mark IV Photo Download
Feel free to grab a copy of one of the frames to explore yourself. The CR2 and JPG files are available here:

Comfortable Upgrade From 5D Mark III
The Mark IV will definitely be comfortable to use for those familiar with the 5D series. And after 4 years using the Mark III, the upgrades included with the Mark IV are welcome. 4k video, the frame rate options for 1080, Wi-Fi, larger file size and more certainly have me excited about the potential here. Though surprisingly I may be most excited about the new function button.
