Danielle Hunter from EcoScrapbook has put together a very wonderful eBook that will help your scrapbooking and crafty projects be greener and more ecofriendly. I really love this song by Jason Mraz. I soulfully sing along every time it comes up on my shuffle list (when I am alone anyway). It really is a beautiful song. I have also wanted to use this quote ever since I first hear the song. I put together this pretty little canvas so that I can always heave the song displayed in my craft room.

The canvas itself is from Micheals. The pattern papers are from my Studio Calico Front Row Card Kit 6x6 paper pad. The grid card is one of Mrs. Becky Higgins' cards. I use my typewriter to type out the quote.

Even my canvases are clean and homespun. :)

I am so very thrilled to be a guest designer over at Life. Paper. Scrapbook. for their Sketch #3 Challenge. This is the layout that I made to generate scraps for my Happy Place layout.

Most of the supplies came from my Studio Calico Front Row Card kit. The wood veneer is from Freckled Fawn. The washi tape pieces are over at The Memory Nest. I used up some more of those lovely Thickers from Amy Tangerine.

I am really trying to like these enamel dots. They are pretty great for tucking in a tiny bit of color here and there. The black chevron paper on the back is actually a 6x6 piece from the card kit paper pad that I cut in half and then covered each half with vellum to tone it down just a tad.

About a Boy has a new challenge up today. For the April 1st challenge, we want to see chevrons.

It took me a long time to get on board with the chevron trend, but I once I fell in love, I understood why they are so popular. :) I started out using this sketch from Let's Get Sketchy. I love using sketches!

The background yellow is from Basic Grey. The kraft paper is Neenah Desert Storm. I made the polka dot chevron by covering a sheet of Desert Storm with polka dot washi and then punching large squares out. Then, I cut the squares in half and made the chevron pattern using glue dots. Lastly, I sewed the edges down. I assembled the layout. The black letters are a new favorite font from American Crafts Amy Tangerine line. The red label is from Hello Forever and the swell wood word is from Freckled Fawn. The gray tag is from Office Depot.

P.S. I am not sure why the pictures of the boys are so blue in these pics. They are pretty Instagram pics in real life.

Giant Slide | Layout for The Memory Nest

The Memory Nest Team is sharing another round of fabulous layouts today. This week we all worked with We R Memory Keepers Winter Frost line. It is a beautiful line to work with even on non-wintery layouts.

I used another sketch from the Studio Calico Bright Ideas class as a jumping off point. All of the patterned papers are from the WRMK Winter Frost line. The cardstock is Bazzill White and Jetstream. The book paper is from a leftover page from my current 30 Lists album. The Thickers are really old Studio Calico/American Crafts letters in the Ali Font (still my very favorite). The little letter stickers are my favorite ever from October Afternoon Mini Market sheets (I am not going to admit just how many of those sheets that I own).

Another challenge has gone up today over at About A Boy. This time we want to see layouts made only with scraps. I hope to see you over there playing with us!!

For this layout, I used leftovers from a layout that I made for a guest designer spot that had to be turned in earlier this month. Also. I have this little bowl of extra embellishments that I make while working but don't end up on the project (that's where the 'be awesome', star, sequin and button all came from). The papers are leftover bits from my Studio Calico Front Row Card Kit 6x6 paper pad. I based the layout on a sketch from the Bright Ideas class over at Studio Calico. I love using sketches.

I made this layout to showcase one of my favorite pictures of me with the boys. It was taken at a local pumpkin patch last fall. I love being a momma to these two little boys so much.

The paper hearts and blue background paper are all from the Basic Grey line True Love. You can pick up the gorgeous papers over here. I really love working with this pretty line. It's the perfect blend on pretty and muted colors to help showcase pictures of loved ones.

I used one of the Paper Smooches free digi stamps to as a guide for stitching the word love. On the back of the paper, I traced one of the punched hearts and then made holes for stitching the hearts. I love that a few elements go off the edge of the paper. I will have to make a special page protector when this layout makes its way to an album.

For the journaling, I held the tag in place where I wanted while I wrote out the journaling around the photo block layers. Then, I used a few foam tabs to keep it place. I love using Tombow's foam tabs to help create layers in my layouts.

I love this 30 Lists project every time it rolls around. I made an attempt last September, but I could only keep up in Evernote. This time, I made an album that I only have to fill out. I used a Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm 6x6 paper pad to cut the numbers with my Cameo. I used an used book as a base for the album. I used my typewriter to type the list title out on a manilla tag.

If you're interested in the numbers, I made a zip file available as a free download for you. The numbers go from 1 through 31. When you hit the link, it will take you to a google documents page. There's a new challenge up today over at About A Boy. Today, we want to you use products that you've been hoarding for at least a year. Be sure to enter your layout in the link up, the design team loves stopping by your sites to see the layout.

Everything in this layout except the jute and vellum comes from my Field Guide Studio Calico kit (with Greenhouse and Perennial add-ons) that was released in October of 2011.

I was kind of stuck as to where to start. When I find myself stuck in the beginning, I usually turn to my Pinterest boards. This layout is inspired by the oh, so talented Celine Navarro. Here's my pin and here's the direct link to her blog post.

The little manilla tag does pull out to reveal a little bit of journaling. The picture is of my guys with their license plate collection right after Harlan's mom and dad just brought bad some from the Hershey, PA Swap Meet.

Fresh Face | Scrapbook Layout

I had a post go up the Sunday before last over on the Shop Your Stash Blog that I help host with Ally. I am just now sharing it with you because last week was rough on me. I had my wisdom teeth out on the 15th and then had a not-so-great recovery. I am happy to say that I am on the mend, not 100%, but I am improving. Oh and my little guy turned 3 on the 22nd, so we had to celebrate him on Saturday.

Here's the post from that Sunday. And, here's this week's challenge.

The first part of the challenge was a color and word challenge from the Color Me Scrappy Challenge. The colors to use were in this picture:

The word challenge is to use 'fresh' somewhere in your project. Read about the full challenge and how to link up over there for the prize here: Color Me Scrappy Challenge. The challenge runs through the 28th.

The additional twist was to use your oldest piece of patterned paper (that coincides with the colors) and a label somewhere on the layout.

I also added a challenge from the Bright Ideas class that I am taking over at Studio Calico. The challenge was to hand stitch some shapes on the layout. I have always wanted to try the tone on tone look. I used white embroidery floss on white Neenah cardstock for the background. I did all of the stitching while I was bed ridden Friday night.

I used some really really old Chatterbox patterned papers from the Dorm Room line for the orange paper and the green hearts. The label is newish from Hello Forever and the foam Thickers are AC Amy Tangerine. It's a sweet and simple 8.5 x 11 layout.

P.S. I may have just fallen for hand stitching too. =)

Sweet Baby Cheeks | Scrapbook Layout

The second February challenge has gone up over on the About A Boy Blog. This time, we want to see layouts about your baby boys. Hope to see you playing along!

For this layout, I used up some of my Studio Calico Block Party Main Kit papers. I cut them in the rectangles shapes using my Cameo. Then, I adhered the patterned down and sewed the quilty pattern. If you're curious how I got the lines so straight, I drew them in pencil first, then sewed over the lines and then erased the pencil lines. The Thickers are from Studio Calico. The little vellum hearts were in my Extras bowl (they are leftovers from this layout). The little tag is from this lovely shop. This is an 8 inch x 8 inch layout.

Love You More | Card

I put this card together for my sweetie. We celebrated Valentine's Day last Saturday night by dressing up and going out to my favorite restaurant. It was a great night. Tonight, we are going to try and go out to one of his favorite restaurants.

The card is made from leftovers that I had in a pile on my floor from this layout with a little bit of gray washi tape and a few runs through my sewing machine. The card measures 6 inches by 6 inches. I made an envelope to hold the card until I gave it to my guy.

This is a layout that I made as an example for brand new challenge blog about shopping your stash. The blog combines little stash busting challenges with another challenge from around the web that has a prize. Participants get to double dip and use up some of their stash... a fabulous combination.

The challenge asks to use a sketch from the Life. Paper. Scrapbook blog (there's a link to it if you go check out the challenge). Also, to use and unused or unopen stamp (for me, this was the hexagon background stamp from Jillibean Soup and the stars cluster from my Simon Says Stamp September Card Kit). Another element of the challenge is use a technique that scares you (those ink spots terrify me and I am still not sure about them. Also, this is the first time that I have stamped on patterned paper this way). The last part of the challenge was to use 2 or more accent pieces that you've been hoarding (which would be those custom wood pieces from my girl at YellowHeartArt. They are pieces that she uses in her necklaces that I custom ordered without the chain holes.)

First About A Boy Challenge

The first challenge for everyone is up today on the About A Boy Challenge Blog. The first challenge is to make a layout introducing/talking about the little man/men in your life. More specifically you need to use his name in the title and/or the journaling. Super easy challenge.

Now, about my layout. I used my January Studio Calico Block Party Card Kit 6x6 paper pad and some Neenah Desert Storm cardstock to make the background pattern. I tried hard to keep the pattern random. The vellum arrows, Basic Gray letters, and the 12x12 kraft sheet are from the Block Party Main Kit.

I also like to include the date and a few more details on the back of my layouts. The picture is a set of pictures that I collaged together and ran through Instagram. It's just a few of Keegan showing me his sad face and his happy face. He asked me to take the pictures so he could practice.

Eco-Friendly Scrapbook Layout | Tuckered Out

I made this layout for an e-book submission over on the EcoScrapbook blog. Danielle and I have gotten to know each over emails and blog hops. We met while participating in a Layout A Day Challenge and has become one of my online friends. Danielle is putting together a scrapbooking e-book due to come out on Earth Day in April. If you're interested in submitting a layout as well, the details are outlined in this post. {Hurry though, the deadline is the end of day on January 31st, 2013}

Everything on this layout is made from leftovers from other projects. The vellum is leftover from a project I am sharing on Friday for the first About A Boy Challenge. The strips are all leftovers from my K @ 6 months layout. I pulled really thin cardboard from one of my Studio Calico kits out of my recycle bin to use for the strip piecing. The letters are one of a few remaining chipboard letters in the pack. The papers that I used to make the strip and the letters were from an older Studio Calico Kit named Boardwalk from August of 2011.

When I work on a piecing project like making chevrons or a quilted background, I tend to over cut the numbers of strips/pieces that I truly need. I always get multiple projects made with all of the pieces and recycle what is finally left. An example of this is when I use pieces to make a quilted background for a layout, I will then use the remaining pieces to make a few cards. And, in the end, I have gotten a few projects made and am recycling only a few bits of paper. Happily, none of the projects look entirely the same. Another example of this is my Happy Neon Card set. I used the strip piecing to make the chevron for one card and then used the chevron cut offs to make a second card.

I am a big fan of purging supplies (recycling and donating what I know that I won't use). I am usually pretty ruthless and only keep what I absolutely love. While the supplies from this are from an older kit, you probably wouldn't know that if I hadn't told you. My advice: keep what you love & recycle what you don't, then you will always love what you make.

Kid's Apron

I also made this apron for my friend's daughter. It was hard to photograph, so I got my handy model to show it off. I made it with some printed duck cloth material from Jo-Ann's so that it's a little bit heavy duty than just regular thin cotton.

I really like making this one too. I am really enjoying learning my sewing machine and making all of these little things. I am loving it so much that I would love to start selling the bags, the aprons, the art caddies, and some quilty baby blankets that I've made (but haven't shared here yet). I think that I am going to try and sell at our farmer's market or a craft fair before I open up an online shop. I feel like the online niche has been filled with the things that I want to make. I have to do some research. How saturated does Etsy, Big Cartel, etc. have to be to consider the niche filled??? Should I just go for it anyway?
