When I was three we had a skunk my father had tamed. He liked to play with my toes dandling over the edge of the couch. He would get excited, like cats do, and bite them and draw blood. He never got banished for it, though. He was wild enough to leave there when we moved down to the Bay Area. He never sprayed any of us.
On the Navajo piece below; you should get a copy of the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, there are some similarities with their view of "wind". Best version/translation I've seen is by Sogyal Rinpoche. I have never felt "loved" by God, by the by. For most of my life I have tolerated God, and He has been good enough to tolerate me in return. Even help me, when I ask nicely.

Enjoying your blog, Terrie, thanks! Did you hear this story on NPR, about women bloggers writing letters to their 20 year-old selves?

Thanks, Jess!

We do use Bag Balm, but what I really like to use is a calendula salve that I make. I started making it for people, but then found that the goats really love it. Sometimes they get little cuts on their udders, and it really heals them up fast. And I think they like the smell; they seem to like to smell my hands after putting it on.

It's a good place for me; it is not perfect of course, and I can't write about everything publicly, but I'm very grateful on many levels to be here.

What a great look at the process, Terrie! A process I know most of us don't think about, or at least I don't. Do you use Bag Balm on their udders or?

And your ladies are lovely, especially Rowena Quail.

You are having much adventure and growth it seems.

Honoring the spirits of the animals around us is a beautiful thing, Terrie.

I hope you are well, and I really need to come see you soon!
