Mid-Century Modern Table Bases

These mid-century modern tables caught my eye at the auction a few weeks back.

The best part about mid-century modern furniture is the shape.

The lines on these pieces are amazing. So simple, yet so elegant.

A little TLC and a piece of glass for the top would make either of these instant treasures.

I wonder who ended up with these and what they did with them.

The lampshade below would have made an awesome chandelier...

My favorite lampshade had to be this one...

Now, THAT is one tall lampshade! Totally groovy!!

I've found several great lamps, chandeliers, and sconces at auctions, flea markets, and garage sales.

Cambridge Antique Fair

This year was the first time I had ever been to the Cambridge Antique Fair in Cambridge, MN.

I loved this set of St. Peter Jr. High School drum corps cases.

Loved this pair of mirrors, too! Hi, Angela of Found Salvage!

This great double bench is perfectly comfortable,

and it has an umbrella hole in the table to make it extra fun!

Sonic was the perfect place to head with friends, Lani of Cottage Elements, and Jan of Summerspell.

Nothing like a cherry limeade on a hot summer day of junking!

The annual Junk Bonanza brings together more than 130 juried vendors of select vintage treasures, junk, and antiques! This year's event, Sept. 15-17, returns to Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN.

Giveaway of three chairs featured in the fall issue of Flea Market Style magazine;
Local harvest goods and homemade gourmet food items from Marshall's Farm Market;
Signings of the just-released fall issue of Flea Market Style magazine;

Loved these fabric dummies/mannequins at the Grand Rapids swap meet! These belonged to Todd, a vendor in Old Town Antiques in Duluth, MN. Wouldn't these be fun for Halloween? I'm sure some of you junkers could come up with a few other fun ideas!

I love when flea market and antique store vendors take time to create beautiful displays. Well-vignetted booths attract me like a moth to a flame.

This simple table-top vignette, with a burlap table cover, a carved mirror as a tray, and three vintage jeweled pins, was a delightful display by a vendor at the Grand Rapids swap meet. This is from the same vendor with the silverware and rusty bed spring display. Loved her booth! I'll have to see if I can find out her name!

Junk Find: Brass Bank Teller Window

Meet Alvin. Alvin is a vendor out of Perham, MN, who was set up at the Grand Rapids swap meet. He's holding a fabulous item I picked up in his booth. It's a brass teller window from a bank. You can see the hinges about 3/4 of the way down...that's where the bottom window can fold up, if needed. This will make for a fun decor or project piece!

Junk Find: Vintage Goalie Pads

This is Kim & Walt of CareFree Transition...an estate sale company in Minnesota. They were some of friendly vendors set up at the Grand Rapids swap meet last weekend. They are holding a pair of vintage leather goalie pads I purchased from them. If you are like my hubby, you are now asking, "What in the heck are you going to do with those?" You'll have to stay tuned here at Junkologie to see!

Vintage Carnival Ride Airplane

You never know what you'll come across at a flea market! This little (or rather large) gem was one of the most unique things I saw at the Grand Rapids swap meet this past weekend.

It is a small airplane...part of a carnival ride. Out of curiosity, I asked the price. The vendor said $700. It sold within hours.

I wonder about the person who bought it and what will become of it. Will it be kept as is? Will it be restored? Will it be stored in a barn or put on display? Will it be repurposed in some way?

What would you do with a unique item like this?

Maybe we'll see you there this year! Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31, in conjunction with the Itasca Vintage Car Club Annual Car Show & Swap Meet. When you get to Grand Rapids, just take 3rd Avenue north to the fairgrounds. Open at 7 am both days.
