Bij het schrijven van een scriptie of andere academische tekst hoort het verwijzen naar de gebruikte bronnen. Bronnen moeten controleerbaar zijn en lezers moeten ze gemakkelijk terug kunnen vinden. Maar hoe verwijs je duidelijk naar literatuur, rechtspraak of websites? Dat staat uitgelegd in de Leidraad voor juridische auteurs, die digitaal beschikbaar is via Kluwer InView.

Wat is er nieuw?
Vergeleken met de vorige editie uit 2022 zijn vooral hoofdstuk 1 en hoofdstuk 5 gewijzigd. Het eerste hoofdstuk bevat een overzicht van de belangrijkste regels voor het verwijzen naar verschillende bronnen, inclusief voorbeelden. Meer gedetailleerde uitleg is vervolgens te vinden in de hoofdstukken 2 (literatuur), 3 (regelgeving en parlementaire documenten) en 4 (jurisprudentie).

Hoofdstuk 5 bevat naast regels over hoofdlettergebruik, nu ook advies voor de vormgeving van de voetnoten en het maken van interne verwijzingen binnen de tekst. Zo vind je in dit hoofdstuk onder andere voorbeelden van de formulering van voetnoten en hoe je naar de voetnoten kunt verwijzen in de hoofdtekst.

Tot slot bevat hoofdstuk 6 aanwijzingen voor het gebruik van afkortingen in de tekst en een lijst met veelvoorkomende afkortingen.

Waar vind je de Leidraad?
De Leidraad voor juridische auteurs is digitaal toegankelijk, maar ook op papier aanwezig bij de balie van de Juridische Bibliotheek. Daarnaast is er een samenvatting beschikbaar.

Ook handig: Ben Polman, docent Strafrecht aan de Vrije Universiteit, heeft onlangs een tool ontwikkeld waarmee je verwijzingen kunt genereren. Vul een aantal gegevens in over je bron en de tool maakt een verwijzing in de juiste opmaak. Let op: controleer altijd zelf in de Leidraad of de gegenereerde verwijzing klopt.

Suriname was van 1667 tot 1954 een kolonie van Nederland. In 1954 kwam het Statuut van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden tot stand en werd Suriname (net als de Nederlandse Antillen) een zelfstandig land binnen het koninkrijk. Op 25 november 1975 tekende koningin Juliana de Akte van erkenning van de Republiek Suriname en werd Johan Ferrier beëdigd als eerste president. Sindsdien wordt op 25 november 'Srefidensi Dey' gevierd.

Bestaande accounts worden binnenkort automatisch geanonimiseerd. Daarmee vervallen ook de persoonlijke instellingen. Dit kun je voorkomen door je account uiterlijk 1 januari 2026 zelf te anonimiseren.

Hoe worden bestaande accounts geanonimiseerd
Je kunt je Instellings-inlogaccount zelf anonimiseren via de selfservice-module in InView. Door je account zelf te anonimiseren:

• worden het e-mailadres, voornaam en achternaam uit de systemen van Wolters Kluwer verwijderd en kun je voortaan anoniem inloggen via SURFconext;
• blijven persoonlijke instellingen behouden, zoals favoriete bronnen op de startpagina en de in InView aangemaakte labels en notities en markeringen.

Let op: aangezien er geen gebruik meer gemaakt wordt van een e-mailadres, zullen de attenderingen niet meer functioneren.

Instructie anonimiseren InView-account:
1. Ga naar Inview.nl
2. Kies Inloggen (rechtsboven)
3. Selecteer de knop Student/Medewerker
4. Selecteer Universiteit van Amsterdam en log in met je UvAnetID
5. Na inloggen, klik je op de blauwe stip rechtsboven
6. Selecteer Mijn account
7. Klik op Anonimiseer gebruiker
8. Klik op Bevestig in het pop-upscherm
9. Rechtsboven zie je een melding dat het is gelukt.

The Law Library has a 30-day trial access to the Max Planck Encyclopedia of Comparative Constitutional Law (MPECCoL). MPECCoL is a new product of Oxford University Press. This online encyclopedia of analytical comparative articles offers a global overview of constitutional law in a comparative context.

In more than 500 peer-reviewed entries it covers all areas of constitutional law. The articles define the basis and foundations of state formation and constitutional law, as well as analyse and explain underlying legal concepts such as human rights, constitutional formation, the scope of state protections, structures of governmental makeup, types of legal structures and interactions within a constitutional law system. In addition, the articles provide insight and detail into key cases that have contributed to or defined constitutional law concepts on a global scale and discuss key instruments in constitutional law history such as Magna Carta and the Charter of Medina, among others.

The service provides browsing and searching of all of the material within the resource based on keywords and subjects. MPECCoL content is also connected to the Oxford Law Citator that provides direct links to related materials within MPECCoL, other online law resources from Oxford University Press, and important references available elsewhere.

Sinds kort hangt er een bijzonder kunstwerk op de studiezaal in de Juridische Bibliotheek. Het gaat om een portret van Paul Scholten, een van de meest invloedrijke Nederlandse rechtsgeleerden die bovendien nauw verbonden was aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam.

Dit jaar is het 150 jaar geleden dat Paul Scholten werd geboren, namelijk op 26 augustus 1875. Hij overleed op 1 mei 1946, kort na zijn emeritaat, tijdens een reis naar Canada.

Korte biografie
Scholten was geboren en getogen in Amsterdam. Van 1893 tot 1898 studeerde hij rechten aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam om vervolgens in mei 1899 te promoveren op het proefschrift Schadevergoeding buiten overeenkomst en onrechtmatige daad. Na een korte periode als advocaat en rechter te hebben gewerkt, keerde Scholten terug naar de UvA. In 1907 werd hij benoemd tot hoogleraar Romeins recht, wat in 1910 werd uitgebreid met burgerlijk (proces)recht. Vanaf 1927 was hij hoogleraar Burgerlijk recht en de wijsbegeerte van het recht, wat hij – met een onderbreking tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog -  bleef tot zijn emeritaat in 1945. In het academisch jaar 1931-1932 was hij ook rector magnificus van de UvA.

Naast zijn werk bij de UvA was Scholten maatschappelijk zeer actief voor verschillende organisaties. Zo was hij lid van de Onderwijsraad, betrokken bij de oprichting van het Amsterdams Lyceum en de Rechtshogeschool in toenmalig Batavia, en actief binnen de Nederlands Hervormde Kerk.

Wetenschappelijk oeuvre
Het bekendste werk van Paul Scholten is het Algemeen deel van de Asser-serie, voor het eerst gepubliceerd in 1931. Met name het eerste hoofdstuk van dit deel, getiteld De methode van het privaatrecht, is uitgegroeid tot een klassieker in de Nederlandse rechtsliteratuur. Scholten zet hierin zijn theorie over rechtsvinding uiteen.

Daarnaast bewerkte Scholten meerdere edities van de delen Personenrecht en Zakenrecht van de Asser-serie, schreef hij meer dan 500 annotaties bij uitspraken in de Nederlandse Jurisprudentie (NJ) en was hij jarenlang redacteur van het Weekblad voor Privaatrecht, Notaris-ambt en Registratie (WPNR).

Voor wie meer wil weten over Paul Scholten en zijn werk zijn er diverse bronnen beschikbaar, waaronder:

• De website van het Digital Paul Scholten Project biedt uitgebreide informatie over Scholten, met name over het Algemeen deel en andere geschriften.
• In Ars Aequi verscheen een artikel over Paul Scholten in de serie 'Canon van het recht'.
• Het WPNR publiceerde in 1975 een speciaal herdenkingsnummer waarin diverse auteurs verschillende aspecten van Scholtens leven en werk belichten.
• Rogier Chorus schreef in 2022 de biografie, Om recht en gerechtigheid, die te leen is bij de Juridische Bibliotheek.

Over het portret
Het portret is op initiatief van de erven-Scholten via het Paul Scholten Centre in de bibliotheek terecht gekomen. Het gaat om een kopie van het originele portret door Jacob Bruyn dat in de faculteitskamer van de FdR hangt. Door het in de studiezaal op te hangen, is het nu ook zichtbaar voor studenten.
