Healthy Barbeque Ideas for July 4th

Barbecue Your Vegetables
While it may seem odd, you can cook vegetables on your grill along with your meat, which makes barbecues healthier. Cut the vegetables into chunks that will cook evenly. Soak them in water for about half-hour and then lightly coat with oil. Choose from the many different flavored oils available to have some fun with different flavors.

Some people wrap vegetables in aluminum foil to keep juices close to the vegetables or put vegetables on a kabob. Kabobs are fun to eat, easy to cook and the juices from the vegetables cook together to create an interesting flavor. Look up recipes so you know how long to barbecue specific vegetables.

Forget Casual Friday - It’s Naked Friday!

Perhaps it’s time for really casual Fridays. In April, staff members at a design firm in Newcastle, England came to work naked after a business psychologist told them it would build team spirit.

The psychologist, David Taylor, was brought in after six employees were laid off due to the recession. According to Taylor, going naked can take away inhibitions and allow staff members to talk more honestly.

Despite initial uncertainly, almost all the staff worked in the buff except for one man who wore a pouch and one woman who kept on underwear. Sam Jackson, 23, the firm’s office manager, was the only woman to go fully nude. She was quoted in The Telegraph as saying: “It was brilliant. Now that we’ve seen each other naked, there are no barriers.”

I say it’s time to take this experiment over to the U.S. Naked Fridays everyone!

Get Fit in Just Six Minutes a Week

Tired of spending endless hours at the gym? What if you could get fit working out just minutes a week? That’s the surprising conclusion by a growing number of sports scientists. New research suggests much shorter, more intense exercise could provide the same benefit as longer, less strenuous workouts.

The effectiveness of interval training has been known for years. Athletes have been incorporating one or two interval sessions a week into their regular exercise routine. What’s new is that many researchers now believe you only need a few minutes of strenuous exercise per week to do the job.

One of the leading proponents of shorter, more intense workouts is Dr. Martin Gibala at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. In one recent study, Gibala had one group of healthy but not athletic college students ride a stationary bike at a moderate level for between 90 and 120 minutes. A second group of students completed a series of short, very intense intervals by cycling for 20 to 30 seconds for as hard as they could. These students would then rest for 20 to 30 seconds and repeat the cycle four to six times.

Each group exercised three times a week, but while the first group spent up to two hours on the bike, the second group only spent 2 to 3 minutes pedaling. After two weeks, researchers found that both groups had achieved nearly identical increases in their endurance. Researchers also found both groups exhibited molecular changes in mitochondria that signal increased fitness.

Another benefit of the intense interval sessions studied by Gibala was weight loss. High-intensity exercise increases energy expenditure well into the recovery phase. Other scientists have found interval training also improves cardiac health, even for those with heart disease.

To get these results, however, researchers say you have to go all out during training. It’s going to hurt and you’ll be out of your comfort zone. You also need to be in relatively good shape before starting a program like this as it can take a toll on your body.

One established interval method to try is called Tabata, developed by a Japanese scientist who did research in the field. Screw You Recession!

Despite all the media hype about economic apocalypse supposedly coming down upon us, a new study conducted by men’s network Break Media shows that young men aren’t cutting back their spending. About half of the 1000 guys aged 18 to 34 interviewed for the study said they were still spending the same amount of money on gadgets and other guy stuff as before the recession.

Since the recession started young guys are now watching more TV and spending more time online, thankfully for us. They are also spending more time on sports, parties, and, yes, sex. So it’s time to shut up and enjoy the damn recession already!

Australians Are the Drunkest People on Earth

Think the Irish drink a lot? According to a new report, the booze hounds of the Australian outback have them beat.

Residents of Australia’s Northern Territory drink 15 liters (nearly four gallons) of pure alcohol each year - three times the global average. The folks who live in Alice Springs, one of the Northern Territory’s largest towns, drink an astounding 20 liters of booze.

In comparison, the Irish and the Czechs come in second place at a mere 13 liters of alcohol per year, according to figure from the World Health Organization.

Recent restrictions in Alice Springs might help bring down alcohol consumption, but the initial results don’t look good. The town banned the sale of 4 liter and 5 liter wine casks and limited the sale of 2 liter casks to between 6pm and 9pm. While sales of wine cases dropped dramatically, beer consumption increased. Just goes to show you can’t keep a good drunk down.

Ahh, basketball cheerleaders. You gotta love ‘em. They try just a little bit harder than their better known football counterparts. And the balmy climes of basketball arenas mean even skimpier outfits than in football.

The New York Knicks City Dancers are perhaps the best known of the basketball cheerleading squads and last Sunday they held auditions. Hundreds of dancers showed up to make their best moves at Madison Square Garden, but only a few dozen were chosen to move on to the next round.

Meet Dann Halem, the man who is building an online business selling marijuana on Twitter. How is this possible? Well, first off, he lives in California where medical marijuana is legal. He’s also got a non-profit license which might (or might not) allow him to sell pot.

Halem, who graduated from Northwestern’s journalism school and seems like an all around normal guy, set up the @artistscollctve Twitter account last week. Artists Collective is a medical marijuana delivery service located in Hollywood and delivering free to “patients” throughout Los Angeles.

On Twitter, Halem posts helpful tweets like:

The hallowed Centre Court at Wimbeldon is not reserved for the best tennis players. Wimbeldon officials admitted to the Daily Mail that looks count for more than talent when they decide who gets to play on Centre Court.

Spokesman Johnny Perkins was quoted as saying: “Good looks are a factor.” A source at the BBC, which broadcasts the women’s matches, was equally candid, saying ”Our preference would always be a Brit or a babe as this always delivers high viewing figures.”

If you’re babealicious, chances are you’ll be playing on Centre Court in the early rounds. If you’re hard on the eyes, you’ll be relegated to Court 1 or 2. Last week, Centre delivered exactly that - the so-called ‘Battle of the Babes’ between unseeded Gisela Dulko (world ranking 45, shown above) and unseeded Maria Sharapova (ranking 60).

What’s better than a brilliantly illustrated comic book by a great artist? A brilliantly illustrated dirty comic book by a great artist.

The folks over at Comics Alliance have come up with a handy list of highly respected comic artists who have turned their attention to the erotic genre. The list ranges from sexy to funny to just plain weird. I won’t give away the whole list, but here a few highlights.

How about Lois Lane in a maid’s uniform whipping Superman? Back in the day Superman co-creator Joe Shuster created “Secret Identity” which is remarkable for not only its overt BDSM themes, but for the fact that everyone looks like Superman and Lois Lane. Makes the mind reel.

Dan DeCarlo, a key artist for the “Archie” comics, also did work for mens magazines that is quite a bit more grown up than that. Finally you can see your Veronica fantasies come true on the page.

All of our leading young men appear to have a new face - and according to experts, it’s getting feminized. Gone are the days of young actors worshiped for their unique sex appeal and masculine charm. Instead, a new trend is emerging and all our celebrity crushes are losing their edge.

According to Dr. Pearlman, former president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), his patients have started citing Efron’s features as their ideal, instead of the more manly look they have asked for in the past. Individuality, he said, has been overrun by the quest for perfect proportion.

According to the recent AAFPRS Annual Survey, Among male patients, the most common procedures were: Botox, dermal fillers and injections, rhinoplasty (nasal surgery), chemical peels and microdermabrasion.

Swedish Town Legalizes Going Topless at Public Pools

Not only are Swedish women among the hottest in the world, but now that country’s third-largest city lets them go topless at public swimming pools. The city of Malmo recently passed the ordinance after a feminist group started showing up at local pools without a top. Now that’s my kind of feminist group!

The Malmo city council’s new rule only requires everyone to wear a bathing suit, but does not specify that a top needs to be worn. A spokesman for the council was quoted in a local paper as saying: “We don’t define what bathing suits men should wear so it doesn’t make much sense to do it for women. And besides, it’s not unusual for men to have large breasts that resemble women’s breasts.”

So guys, it might be time to book your next trip to Malmo. There’s still a few weeks of summer left and the ladies will be at the pool!

Filipino Prisoners Return with Michael Jackson Tribute

You might remember a few years ago when the talented inmates at the Philippine’s Cebu Detention and Rehabilitation Center gained international notoriety when they created a viral rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” (you can see that here) that garnered over 26 million views on YouTube. Well, now that Jackson has died, they’re back with a special tribute performance.

According to CNN, the 1,400 prisoners practiced for ten straight hours, finally breaking at 3 am to rest for the performance. At the prison, inmates dance for five hours a day and you can see they’ve gotten pretty good:

UNITE, a student housing provider, audited the lost and found from all of their buildings - which house nearly 37,000 students - and came up with a list of the ten most bizarre things left behind:

Almost lost in the circus surrounding Michael Jackson’s death is the fact that 70s icon Farrah Fawcett died earlier yesterday. If you were a male teenager in the late 1970s, chances are you had a swimsuit poster of Farrah Fawcett on your wall.

Farrah came to superstardom from her role in television’s campy “Charlie’s Angels” but went on to do serious, if little, noticed movies.

In her heyday, Farrah was the epitome of the feathery maned California girl. From her brilliantly gleaming white teeth to her toned, tanned body, Fawcett inspired a generation of teenage lust. When she posed for Playboy in 1995 - at age 50 - it became that magazine’s highest selling issue of the decade.
