style="text-align: justify;">The next Consumer Electronics Show is coming in early January, and a number of new Android OS smartphones are expected to be unveiled at this gigantic trade show, and maybe a new version of the iPhone, too.

Verizon is apparently going to be the star of the show, as it has promised to announce its first 4G smart phones on the first day of the show. This company's LTE service, which debuted earlier this month, offers significantly faster data transfers than its 3G service, but is currently available only for laptops.

The device most likely on the docket is the Motorola Olympus, a cutting-edge device that unconfirmed reports say is going to run Google's Android OS on a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and be built around a 4.1-inch display.

Whatever Verizon's first 4G model turns out to be, it won't be produced by HTC, as this company's CES announced recently that HTC isn't going to have an LTE-based device on the market until the middle of next year.

A long-shot for an appearance at CES 2011 is Verizon's version of the Apple iPhone 4. There have been persistent, albeit unconfirmed, reports that this device is in development and headed for release early next year, but whether the big event will be at this tradeshow is an open question.

Verizon likes to use CES to show off products, while Apple prefers to host its own events. At this point, there's no way to know which company will get its way.

In any case, numerous reports from industry insiders say that the Verizon version of the iPhone 4 is gong to be on the market before springtime.

A Dual-Core Smartphone

The wraps came off the LG Optimus 2X last week, another model that's going to use a Tegra 2 dual-core processor to run Google's operating system.

An unconfirmed report indicates that this high-end model is headed for T-Mobile in the spring, and this carrier might be planning to make an official announcement of this at CES.

About 2011 International CES

CES is not generally a tradeshow that sees loads of smartphones announced. These are consumer products, and companies only unveil them immediately after the Holiday Shopping Season under special circumstances.

Want to know more about the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow? Check out the About CES section of CESweb.org.

Component called TCP / IP is responsible for it.

TCP / IP gets corrupted and as a result you cannot access Internet connection from your system. To solve the issue, What I usually do is right click on network in tray icon set and troubleshoot.

Troubleshoot detects a problem (which is more often related to TCP/IP), Resets Wireless adapter (general solution) then verifies whether problem is solved followed by detection of additional problems.

When you know that problem can be fixed by resetting then use Reset & Repair TCP/IP, a small program which fixes everything in one click. It is a portable program, execute it and click on Reinstall/Reset to apply the fix.

For efficiency of this solution I recommend checking the boxes that says “Also repair WinSock” and “Restart after reset” so that WinSock repair and restart the computer at the end and get a new IP address on the local network.

The application works well with Windows XP, 2003, Vista and Windows 7, no installation required, just download it and run it.

Download the tools

Each time the device is plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi, the application will automatically start caching maps of your most frequently visited areas. So, lose your connection or go underground on the train, and the app still has the map of the surrounding area that you need on your phone.

With the offline maps comes an equally useful feature: the ability to perform offline re-routing when using Google Maps Navigation, the turn-by-turn GPS navigation feature. Though an Internet connection is still required to start a route, the connection can drop out part of the way through and the application will still put users on the right track if any wrong turns are made.

Google Maps 3D

The new 3D view of your maps also utilizes the dynamic drawing feature, which allows users to interact with the images in new ways. When handling the maps, there are special touch controls for tilting, rotating, and zooming in on the images.

There is also a new compass mode, where users can center the map on their location and then orient the 3D map to match their perspective.

Google Maps for mobile 5.0 is available in the Android market for all devices running on Android 1.6 and up, but the offline mode and 3D maps require Android 2.0 or higher.

source

To realize your dreams, you must turn them into goals that are achievable and have a timeline. Then, you need to craft out your action plan to move you closer to your goals each day. Do not let your day pass by without doing something that can move you closer to your dreams.

The first step in attaining your dreams is to set GOALS!

The most common difficulty in setting goals is the word "IMPOSSIBLE". For the most part people get hung up thinking :

“I can't do this.
It is too hard.
It is unattainable.
No one can do this.”

If everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human achievement. Because we have given up before we even take the first step!

We all must learn how to aspire higher and remove the word "impossible". Nothing is impossible! People thought that it was impossible for human beings to go to the moon; and they had been proven wrong. People said that it was impossible for us to fly across the continent; again they had been proven wrong!

So again,... Nothing is impossible! Do not let this word encircle your mind!

If you don't allow the word "impossible" to surround your mind, you will not know that it's impossible to do what is actually achievable.

For instance, at some point in time scientists were puzzled when they took a look at the unassuming bumblebee. In theory, they said, it was not possible for the bumblebee to fly. Fortunately for the bumblebee nobody has told it so. As a result fly it does.

If you limit yourself with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, you will in no way be able to break past what you consider not possible. If you reach excessively far out into the sky without working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging to the impossible dream.

Break up your goals into achievable steps:
Don't let your goals to overwhelm you, break them down into manageble and achievable steps. Then outline in details how you are going to achieve each step so that you can move closer to your goals each day.

Set up your action plan:
After you have outlined the steps to achieve your goals, make an action plan to guide you through the implementation. Stick to your action plan each day so that you can focus your mind and energy on achieving your goals and dreams.

When you have goals in life and detailed action plan on how to achieve your goals step-by-step. You will feel that your life become more purposeful. You will always wake up in the morning with positive aspiration and positive energy to go to work on your plan.

That's how you make your dreams to become reality.

Article Source : www.leadershiparticles.net

Because leadership is a position that must be earned day in and day out, there are important personal choices that both new and experienced leaders must make on a regular basis. Effective leaders are, first and foremost, effective people.

Personal ethics can't be separated from professional ethics. Therefore, the character of the leader is essential. The following list of ten characteristics is a valuable guide for leadership. In addition, it results in a quality life.

1. A high standard of personal ethics leads the list. Honest Abe Lincoln, who walked miles to return a customer's change, is a classic example of how personal ethics are reflected in professional conduct. Decisions made under pressure and/or temptation separate the great ones from the impostors.

2. High energy. Great leaders are not exhausted by dealing with petty issues. These people know right from wrong as well as the difference between what's truly important and what's merely interesting.

3. The ability to work priorities shares equal importance with setting priorities. Many brilliant priority lists end up in the landfill of life. The difference between setting priorities and working them through is the difference between a dreamer and a doer.

4. Courage. The willingness to take risks and accept responsibility for the outcome is a consistent quality among effective leaders. Either you or your fears will control everything you do. An organization will be no bolder than the leader.

5. Committed and dedicated hard working leaders will eventually develop dedicated and hard working organizations regardless of who they start with or the experience they bring to the job.

6. Unorthodox leaders have an urge to create and don't have the patience to wait for a phone to ring before acting. Effective leaders are innovators who bore easily and prefer shaping tomorrow to repeating yesterday.

7. Great leaders have the goal orientation to make tough decisions. Goal orientation produces a drive and energy that shield us from the pain of the task. Keeping an organization focused increases efficiency.

8. Inspired enthusiasm is like the pilot light on the oven. Genuine enthusiasm is contagious. People look to their leaders for enthusiasm. The inspiration level of the organization is directly proportionate to the enthusiasm of the leader--be it high or low.

9. Level-headed people make realistic leaders who respond to problems rather than simply react. A leader who can stay cool under pressure inspires confidence among those in the organization and empowers them to do the same.

10. The desire to help others succeed is the mark of a truly great leader. Synergy is created when a leader truly invests his or her efforts in the success of others. Zig Ziglar says it like this, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care about them."
Whether you're trying to increase your own effectiveness as a leader or are trying to develop leadership talent within your organization, keep studying the characteristics of those you consider to be great leaders.

Remember that leadership is an art, not a science, and the difference between a genuinely effective leader and a short-term motivator can be found in the personal decisions an individual makes when choosing how to live his or her life. Long-term commitment to the principles described above will produce an effective leader and, over time, an inspired organization.

Or fiddles in the chair? Or even looks everywhere but at you? How does this make you feel? Most people feel hurt. The listener acts as though he or she is absolutely not interest in what the speaker has to say or already said. And yet, when it is their turn to talk, they expect, if not demand, attention.

Have you ever been in a heated conversation and realize that your partner has no idea what you have been saying? It could very well be the manner that you are delivering the argument or speech, or it may even be that your partner is a poor listener. Poor listening skills seem to be the majority and not the minority of fresh graduates. Since Malaysia is so used to being fast paced in all matters, we often forget how to slow down and just listen.

So how can one learn to be a good listener? Below are some common tips that can help poor listeners work wonders in all situations not only during interviews.

1. Learn to listen by using lots of eye contact:
Let the speaker know that you are interested in what is being said

2. Be slow to speak:
Sometimes, people speak to think out loud. Sometimes, all they really want is a shoulder to lean on and a willing ear to listen. By being slow to speak, you are allowing the speaker to work out or solve problems themselves. Also, one must think before he/she speaks

3. Keep the secret:
People trust you with information because they believe that you will not gossip and spread slander. Keep their trust by keeping things private; between the two of you

4. Be Attentive:
Learn to actively listen. Let the speaker know that you are actually listening, although you are not speaking, by saying things like, "yeah, hmmm, I know, that's true, okay, that makes sense," and so forth. This shows that you are in tune with what they are saying and also following what they are saying

5. Show Gratitude:
Let the speaker know that you feel honored that they were able to open up to you. If nothing personal was said, than let the speaker know that you had a great time listening and that you learned a lot. In a society that forgets to show gratitude, a simple use of kind words, can make someone's day a little brighter. Showing kindness and appreciation will also help you with the interviewer

6. Stay in Tune:
Do not simply disappear in the middle of any conversation because your mind wandered. Go to the book section of Amazon.com, enter the keyword "leadership" and see how many hits you get. The last time I did this I got over 18,200 hits. Eighteen thousand two hundred! Why is there so much material on this one subject? The law of supply and demand would say it is because people are
buying it. But I suspect there are other, more subtle reasons.

One of those reasons is the underlying belief that leadership can be taught. With enough training, anybody can be a leader. The theory is that leaders are made, not born. Or are they?

The other day a woman told me that she sees definite leadership traits in her son. I asked her how old he was. "Six," she replied. Too young to have been through any leadership training. So are leaders born or made? The answer is both.

The problem is that we often get fuzzy about what can and cannot be taught, and at the heart of the fuzziness is the difference between talent and skill.

Talent is what we do well naturally. It is our bent. Talents are inborn, and can be discovered and developed. They cannot be taught. However, skills can. Skills are simply how to do something. They are learned and transferable. When we confuse talent and skill, we set ourselves up for disappointing expectations from training.

What does this have to do with developing leaders? Everything. For example, the ability to create vision and strategy is a key leadership trait. Some people have a talent for it. They do it naturally and continually. Others don’t. Both can learn some skills that will help them do it better. The difference is that the one with the corresponding talent can be excellent at it, while the other one can be adequate at best. Talent is required for excellence. Who wants more "adequate" leaders?

Here’s the bottom line for developing your leadership potential: become the leader you are designed to be. Discover your natural motivational talents, and build on them. Volunteer for assignments and training that complement your natural giftedness. Get on the track to excellence by aligning your development with your talents.

There are all types of leaders. Some rouse and inspire. Some organize. Some are strategic, and some tactical. Some spot opportunities, and some protect against disaster. All are needed in this world of ours.

The list is based on number of pieces of model specific mobile and smart phone cases ordered from Krusell during February 2009. Krusell's list is unique due to the fact that it reflects the sales of phones on six continents and in more than 50 countries around the globe.

1. Nokia’s efforts in promoting the new touch screen phone Nokia 5800 has had an impact on the sales in February. Still it is not yet threatening the top segment. What Your Business Coach Thinks

There are 24 hours in the day, and you can't change that no matter who you are. Most executives simply try to work more in order to accomplish more. That's a dangerous way to get more done, and a slippery slope, eventually you'll run out of hours to work in the day, and you'll find yourself burnt out when it happens. "Give me a lever long enough, and I can move the world," said Archimedes. Well, outsourcing is a way of leveraging your time and manpower for maximum efficiency. Perhaps it's time to consider outsourcing as a way of managing your own resources.

What's your business's most valuable asset? You are. The first thing is you have to figure out is where in your organization you're doing the most important work. Where are you needed most? Prioritize that job; you should be spending most of your time focused on your most valued skill. Take a look at areas where you're spending time that could be better used elsewhere bookkeeping and payroll? Public relations? Advertising? These are all jobs that could be outsourced. Yes, it'll cost money but how valuable is the time that you're losing by splitting your focus on jobs that could be done elsewhere?

Basically, if a job is keeping you from doing your most important tasks, think about outsourcing. The same holds true for jobs that are so important that, if done wrong, they could have a negative impact on your business. Hire a tax professional rather than doing your own taxes and payroll. If you're managing the mailing labels for your catalogs when you should be on the phone with customers, hire someone else to do that. If you're crawling under the desk fixing a computer instead of meeting a client, it's time to hire someone else to do your IT work. Even hiring a janitor can save you hundreds of valuable work hours each year if you find yourself restocking toilet paper and emptying wastebaskets!

When looking to outsource, look for vendors who have a good track record in their field you won't save money in the long run if you hire someone cheap who does a lousy job. One of the main reasons you're considering outsourcing, after all, is to allow your business to focus on what you do best, so make sure the vendors you hire are just as good at what they do, whether it's taxes or PR. Make sure that you trust them before you hire them learn as much as you can about your outsourcing vendor before signing the contract.

When outsourcing, also remember that customer service is key. You'll be depending on them to provide an important service that your company needs so that it can run efficiently. Make sure that they understand your needs, but have realistic expectations of what they can do, including what services they can provide and what their schedule will be. Hiring a good vendor to handle your business needs will make your work much easier but fighting on the phone with a vendor who isn't delivering what you require will make your job even more difficult than it was before.

Even the smallest businesses can benefit from well-considered outsourcing, whether it's a local payroll operation, coffee delivery or a janitorial service. With UMA, mobile operators can now leverage the cost and performance advantages of IP access technologies (DSL, Cable, Wi-Fi...) to deliver high-quality, low-cost mobile voice and data services in the locations where subscribers spend most of their time - the home and office.

To enable access to the mobile service core via IP-based networks, the UMA standard defines a new core network element (the UMA Network Controller (UNC)) and associated protocols that provide for the secure transport of mobile signaling and user plane traffic over IP. The UNC interfaces into the core network via existing 3GPP specified interfaces.

Fundamentally, UMA provides a standard, scalable, secure IP interface into the core service network of mobile operators. By deploying a UMA Network Controller (UNC), mobile operators can extend all existing and future circuit, packet and IMS-based services over any IP-based access network, including the Internet. While initially developed to enable dual-mode cellular/Wi-Fi handset services, the UMA standard can be leveraged to deliver a number of compelling new fixed-mobile convergence services.

Below is the history of UMA technology development :

The 3GPP UMA standard was born from the requirements of mobile and integrated operators to deliver high-performance, low-cost mobile voice and data services to subscribers at home and the office. UMA has proven to be the ideal standard for mobile and integrated operators to extend circuit, packet and IMS services over the public Internet and continues to evolve to meet the needs of mobile and integrated operators worldwide.

Network designers can use the i.Send transmitter to verify optimal antenna positioning for indoor distributed antenna systems (DAS) and as a low power source for testing the design and functionality of RF repeaters and base stations.

“The i.Send transmitter is a unique tool for verifying in-building coverage, DAS and repeater system design,” said John Baker, vice president and general manager, Network Solutions, Andrew. “Such a device should help operator engineers maximize the performance of their indoor networks prior to final installation.”

The portable Invex.NxG i.Send offers over 20 dBm of transmit power for up to four hours between battery charges and supports GSM, CDMA, UMTS and W-CDMA frequency bands with user-settable channel and message parameters. Users can configure i.Send via a Wi-Fi connection, selecting the desired frequency and modulation schemes, with the ability to set the parameters within the scheme. For ease of operation, the unit is placed in transmit or standby mode via the Wi-Fi connection.

Andrew’s Invex.NxG wireless drive-test system enables wireless operators to view their own and their competitors’ wireless voice and data services from the perspective of the subscriber by providing critical quality-of-service (QoS) measurements. Invex.NxG identifies failed originations, abnormal ends, call setup time, and call quality for improving voice service levels. It also performs packet data testing for analyzing upload/download throughput speeds for data services and can be used by field personnel for independently checking network signal strength and identifying base station locations and sectors, assisting them in their jobs.

LTE, the name for the mobile community’s next-generation broadband IP access network, evokes images of a distant, foreign land. Yet a report released by ABI Research in June 2008 projected 32 million subscribers will be using the technology by 2013, a mere five years from now.

As an access network, LTE holds the promise of a true ‘mobile internet’, a native packet access network with peak data rates in excess of 100 mbps. In an all-IP mobile world, what is the role dual-mode Wi-Fi handset services based on UMA technology?

As a backdrop, UMA is about delivery of mobile services provided by the core network (circuit, packet, IMS) over broadband IP access networks and Wi-Fi. It enables mobile operators to leverage the cost and performance advantages of the Internet to make mobile services work better and cost less where subscribers spend most of their time, at home and in the office.

When considering whether UMA is competitive or complementary to an LTE macro network, it is important to understand the underlying benefits of UMA in dual-mode handset services. From an operator’s perspective, there are three clear benefits:

Offload the macro RAN (Radio Access Network)

Improve the performance of mobile services indoors

Create new ‘home zone’ services

The macro mobile network offers unbelievable opportunity for service delivery. But there are practical economic and service advantages in leveraging an in-building radio network in conjunction with an LTE deployment.

The ability to offload traffic to a broadband network, improve the performance of mobile services indoors, and create new, differentiated home zone services is even more important given the characteristics of LTE.

UMA-based home zone services, is a pragmatic, proven mechanism for mobile operators to extend their circuit, packet and IMS services onto the fixed broadband IP network. It’s clear that UMA provides the perfect complement to tomorrow’s LTE networks.

The announcement of Virtual Bonding's availability follows the completion of trials at two (unnamed) Tier-1 European mobile operators, where the firm says it dramatically improved HSPA service delivery.

One of the greatest challenges faced by operators in the deployment of HSPA services is the shortage of backhaul network bandwidth and capacity. In order to ensure the highest level of service, operators must be able to maximize the HSPA peak rate capacity available between cell sites and the RNC.

Celtro's new Virtual Bonding technology makes it possible to bond together different transport links over various infrastructure technologies into one virtual backhaul pipe to transmit HSPA traffic. With Virtual Bonding, any combination of existing links - like ADSL2+, SHDSL, traditional E1 and Ethernet - can be combined to form a single high-capacity pipe. This virtual pipe's peak-rate is equal to the accumulated peak-rates of the individual links.

Virtual Bonding's inherent load sharing further benefits operators with traffic protection against single-link degradation or failure.

"Operators are facing a steep increase in mobile data usage, and need to provide immediate capacity for HSPA deployments. Virtual Bonding provides mobile operators with a unique and innovative means to increase HSPA backhaul capacity at a minimal CapEx, by harnessing existing infrastructure for cellular traffic," said Ron Zor, CEO of Celtro. "This new technology demonstrates Celtro's continued leadership and commitment to developing leading-edge solutions designed to overcome backhaul network challenges and enables mobile operators to deliver the highest level of service to their subscribers," he continued.

Virtual Bonding is available as a part of Celtro's mobile backhaul switching solutions suite, which optimizes TDM, ATM, IP/MPLS mobile backhaul traffic. The first commercial deployments of Virtual Bonding are expected in April 2009. Whether it's due to on-the-job pressures, stress at home, familiarity or just proximity, when you're feeling hot under the collar, it's often your coworkers who wind up feeling the heat -- whether they actually deserve it or not.

So the next time you're ready to explode because your cube neighbor did something that irritates you yet again, let these tips from business-harmony experts help you make peace rather than war.

"When emotionally upset, people cannot remember, attend, learn or make decisions clearly," says Daniel Goleman in Emotional Intelligence. These three applications of emotional intelligence can be helpful in productively resolving office conflict:

Air Grievances Sensitively: Think about the effect your criticism will have on its recipient. If your words suggest the person is dim-witted, lazy or inconsiderate, you will get defensiveness and resentment in response. Talk to your coworker the way you would want to be spoken to, and aim for resolution, not revenge.

Consider Others' Working Styles: Try not to get irritated just because somebody's approach is different than yours.

Learn to Negotiate Effectively: Focus on the desired outcome of a conversation with your coworker, and strategize the best possible way to achieve your result.

Our own pressures can make us short-tempered. "The workplace holds a plethora of anxiety producers," says Gloria Dunn, president of management-consulting company Wiser Ways to Work. She suggests the following strategies for regaining a sense of control and managing your stress level:

Mark off daily time that you keep free of interruptions.

Learn to say no. Create realistic boundaries, and stick to them. That way, you won't feel walked on, and you will feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

Create a workspace that nurtures you (i.e., makes you feel both physically and emotionally comfortable).

Exercise daily.

But the best way to avoid office drama is to refuse to engage in it. Nobody can cook up a full-scale conflict alone. If you can maintain a clear head, a good perspective on the issues, a sense of self-awareness and some compassion for your coworkers, you really can work in peace.

Your spouse recently passed away. You think you're too old, fat or stupid to find a job. Keep thinking that way, and you'll prove yourself right. Negative thinking and speaking can derail your job search. Most employers want to hire happy people -- not people who are down on themselves and the world.

Maybe you wouldn't complain about directions or the rain, but the way you view yourself can influence your job search. "You can perceive anything in a lot of ways," says Elaine Varelas, managing partner at Keystone Partners, a Boston career management firm. If you're an older worker, you can see yourself as experienced -- or just old.

So how can you sound happy when you're really feeling the opposite? First, admit you have a problem. Tell yourself out loud that you have a tendency to be pessimistic and that you are going to look for the positive. "You don't need to totally revise your personality, but you have to recognize that it's not a lot of fun to be around someone who's cranky and negative, and people have that choice when they hire," Varelas says.

Next, set up reasonable daily goals, and reward yourself when you accomplish them. A reasonable goal might be making five personal contacts. The goal can't be vague or too large, and certainly shouldn't be, "I'm going to find a job today."

Next, tell yourself that job hunting is a numbers game. "It's a lot like being single," says Jay Arthur, author of How to Motivate Everyone. "I know that somewhere out there, there's a way cool job that's right for me. I just haven't found it yet. Part of it is knowing that a 'no' from someone is the universe keeping you from a bad job."

Can people really turn their job searches around just by reining in negative thoughts? "I had [as a client] a senior person in healthcare who was a solid, good guy who had a great wit [but] was a little bit pessimistic," recalls Varelas. "He couldn't see himself growing from this negative experience."

"What we said was, 'Picture every interview as your ideal job. After the interview, you can turn it down, but use the same kind of words. You'd be energized to go to work each day, so emphasize that you're a high-energy person who's energized to go to work,'" Varelas says. "His networking became much more positive, and he rose from middle management to senior executive."

Picture who you want to work with, where the job will be and what you'd be doing, Arthur adds. When you go into an interview, you'll already see yourself helping the employer succeed. That attitude will come through. "It's not, 'Do you want me?' It's, 'Here's how I'm able to help you,'" he explains.

And as for being too old or overweight, just remember everyone has something to overcome. So get out there and try one more time, because this may be the day you talk to the person who puts you in touch with someone who hires you for your dream job.

Let it Works for You

Identify what is stressful and solve the problem creatively. For example, launching or changing a career is particularly stressful for young adults, who often fail to realize that workforce stress is hardest on them. It's a myth that the youth have it easy. By recognizing this fact, you can stop floundering and suffering more than you need to.

Relocation is another stressful situation. You're not just changing jobs; you're changing neighborhoods and leaving friends and relatives, all the while looking for new people to support you, like doctors, dentists, car mechanics, hair stylists and baby-sitters, to mention a few. Good things, like promotions and raises, buying a home and having a baby, are stressful, too. Often getting what we want, ironically, creates new burdens.

One such plan is the Coach's Plan, which is designed to keep successful athletes mentally fit. When you feel stressed, stop what you are doing and breathe deeply, relax your mind and body, and then visualize your goal and see yourself achieving it.

Restate every negative thought with a positive statement about your strengths. Set mini-behavioral goals -- actions you can take now, such as, "Today I will identify three new companies to target; find three networking leads; volunteer somewhere; etc." Take action on your identified mini-goals.

Making stress work for you and becoming resilient takes practice. Like babies learning to walk, you'll have setbacks. The resilient aren't perfectionists who think and talk about how things should be. The resilient ones are people who take action, solve problems and reserve time for renewal. In turn, they are often among the people we admire. So start making stress work for you, too. Identify your stress, find employers who value resilience and follow an action plan. Whether you chose the Coach's Plan or develop one of your own, you'll be headed in the right direction.

This exploit has been dubbed the “SMS Curse of Silence” by Tobias Engel, who discovered and disclosed the exploit at the 25th Chaos Communication Congress.

The exploit can make the text messaging function of the affected phone unusable. Affected phones cannot receive SMS text messages. Smartphones that can be attacked this way include UIQ devices and S60 2nd Edition Feature Packs 2 and 3, 3rd Edition and 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1. S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 or 5th Edition phones are not affected.

The attack consists of sending one or, depending on the phone model, several specifically formatted SMS messages to the smartphone being targeted. The messages crash the phone’s SMS system, but the phone remains functional otherwise. Older models do not show symptoms of the attack that would be visible to the user; however newer phones can show messages that the phone is running out of memory or experience constantly flashing message icons after the attack.

It was a niche market growing five times faster than the standard cell phone space.

Then came the Apple AAPL iPhone, creating a flood of smart phones from various manufacturers.

Canada-based RIM responded in 2008 with new products for business and consumers. The impact of its large investment in research and development and the onslaught of competition surfaced in the summer, as earnings and sales slipped below expectations. RIM has lowered expectations ever since.

Jim Balsillie, co-chief executive, remained confident throughout and looks forward to 2009 as the market shifts into the field it pioneered and in which it remains the market leader. The initial attraction of the BlackBerry was its ability to handle e-mail and business applications. Newer models can surf the Web with ease, play music, capture photos and provide satellite navigation. But if that bad day is every day, it might be time to consider leaving your job. Some causes of job dissatisfaction are impossible to alter, and in this case employees may well be better off making a fast exit. With job vacancies increasing by around 1% in May 2008, according to the Office of National Statistics, now could be just the time to look for work. However, workplace discontentment may be improved without leaving your job – and in some situations, improving your current job may achieve a better outcome than looking for a new one.

Good work/life balance is currently a key government agenda, and having plenty of time to enjoy your social life and family, according to Cooper, is essential for enjoying your work. If you love what you do, but often feel stressed and overworked, there are steps you can take to improve things before you consider leaving your job.

Employees may also have poor work/life balance if they have no flexibility with their working hours. If you find your work rewarding, but hate the regimented hours and nine-to-five routine, it may be worth talking to your employer about flexible working – which includes condensing hours on certain days, some part-time working and occasionally working from home. Staff who are offered flexible hours claim to enjoy their work more, according to figures from Chiumento, so if you’re not enjoying your job consider whether flexible working would help.

If you don’t have workplace flexibility and you think it’s making you enjoy your job less, how do you go about changing things? Broadly speaking, you’re legally entitled to request flexible working if you’ve had more than 26-weeks continuous employment, aren’t an agency worker and care for a child or relative in some capacity. In this case, you can submit a request in writing (although employers can refuse on a number of very general grounds). If you’re not a primary carer you don’t have any specific legal rights to request flexible working, but that doesn’t mean you can’t ask. After all, making changes for existing staff is often more cost-effective for employers than going through the recruitment process.

Improved work/life balance may help some employees stay put, but what about those who aren’t interested in the work they do? Should they consider leaving their job?

If you’re not interested in the organisation you work for, it could be time to consider leaving your job for something you’re really passionate about. “When you follow your passion life becomes easier,” says Hambleton-Jones. “By this I don’t mean all your problems disappear, but at least you feel as though you’re swimming with the tide rather than against it.”

Change Your Career Path

In a competitive job market, it's hard enough for job seekers on a steady career path to get their resumes noticed. If you are pursuing a new direction, it's all that much more difficult to convince hiring managers to take a chance on you.

A common mistake career changers make is to use the same resumes that worked in their previous careers when they're pursuing new ones. Instead, resumes should be reworked to emphasize key qualifications for new objectives. The best way to get started is to research the field you're trying to break into to understand what hiring managers want from their workers. Learn about the skills and other credentials that are important in your new career.

Write out a list of your most desirable, related qualifications; these should form the cornerstone of your resume. Next, select the most appropriate resume format based on the type of career change you are pursuing:

'Combination' Chronological
This one is best for career changers with transferable skills from a previous career.

Many career changers do well with a combination resume format, which is a chronological-style resume that leads with a qualifications summary. The summary emphasizes your most related credentials so hiring managers easily see you are qualified for your new goal. It is important for you to mention your new career objective, so employers don't assume you're staying in your old field. Your work history should focus on the skills, tasks and accomplishments most relevant to your new career.

Functional Resume
If you're pursuing a career that is very different than your former career, a functional resume is a good choice. This style allows you to draw out your related skills and downplay your work history.

Lead your resume with a career goal and qualifications summary, and then create functional categories that highlight your related skills and experience. Your work chronology is a simple listing at the end of the resume (include company name, city, state, job title and dates), with no job description for unrelated positions.

Resume Letter
Another strategy for career changers with minimal related experience is a resume letter, which is a cover letter that substitutes for a resume. A resume letter emphasizes your passion for the industry and any related experience/training, but its narrative format allows you complete control over the information you provide. Keep your letter focused on how your motivation, enthusiasm and passion for your new career would benefit the employer's operation. You will still need to have a more traditional resume format on hand in case it's requested, but the letter will serve as a good introduction and pique the hiring manager's interest in interviewing you.

Why, you ask? Interviewing is a learned skill, and there are no second chances to make a great first impression. So study these 10 strategies to enhance your interview IQ.

Practice Good Nonverbal Communication
It's about demonstrating confidence: standing straight, making eye contact and connecting with a good, firm handshake. That first impression can be a great beginning -- or quick ending -- to your interview.

Dress for the Job or Company
Today's casual dress codes do not give you permission to dress as "they" do when you interview. It is important to look professional and well-groomed. Whether you wear a suit or something less formal depends on the company culture and the position you are seeking. If possible, call to find out about the company dress code before the interview.

Listen
From the very beginning of the interview, your interviewer is giving you information, either directly or indirectly. If you are not hearing it, you are missing a major opportunity. Good communication skills include listening and letting the person know you heard what was said. Observe your interviewer, and match that style and pace.

Don't Talk Too Much
Telling the interviewer more than he needs to know could be a fatal mistake. When you have not prepared ahead of time, you may tend to ramble, sometimes talking yourself right out of the job. Prepare for the interview by reading through the job posting, matching your skills with the position's requirements and relating only that information.

Don't Be Too Familiar
The interview is a professional meeting to talk business. This is not about making a new friend. Your level of familiarity should mimic the interviewer's demeanor. It is important to bring energy and enthusiasm to the interview and to ask questions, but do not overstep your place as a candidate looking for a job.

Use Appropriate Language
It's a given that you should use professional language during the interview. Be aware of any inappropriate slang words or references to age, race, religion, politics or sexual orientation -- these topics could send you out the door very quickly.

Don't Be Cocky
Attitude plays a key role in your interview success. There is a fine balance between confidence, professionalism and modesty. Even if you're putting on a performance to demonstrate your ability, overconfidence is as bad, if not worse, as being too reserved.

Take Care to Answer the Questions
When an interviewer asks for an example of a time when you did something, he is seeking a sample of your past behavior. If you fail to relate a specific example, you not only don't answer the question, but you also miss an opportunity to prove your ability and talk about your skills.

Ask Questions
When asked if they have any questions, most candidates answer, "No." Wrong answer. It is extremely important to ask questions to demonstrate an interest in what goes on in the company. Asking questions also gives you the opportunity to find out if this is the right place for you. The best questions come from listening to what is asked during the interview and asking for additional information.

Don't Appear Desperate
When you interview with the "please, please hire me" approach, you appear desperate and less confident. Maintain the three C's during the interview: cool, calm and confident. You know you can do the job; make sure the interviewer believes you can, too.

In this article, I will illustrate two ways to help you find your laptop drivers quickly, and easily.

The first method we will consider is to visit a company's website, and attempt to find a 'Drivers' or 'downloads' link. If a similar link is not immediately apparent, look for a search box. Most laptop companies have a search box somewhere on the homepage of their website. Type the model number of your laptop into the search box and click search. Typically, you will be sent to an overview of the model you have entered. Look for 'Downloads' or 'Drivers' links. Hopefully, if this link is available, you can follow it to find the necessary drivers for your laptop.

For example, say you have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop, for which you wish to locate updated drivers. The first step is to visit Dell's website. From the first page, click on the 'Drivers and Downloads' section.

After clicking on the 'Drivers and Downloads' link, we choose the required model. In our example, it is Latitude.
Then we enter the model number (D600), followed by selecting our operating system. The Dell website will show a list of available drivers and software updates for your model. Select the driver you wish, and click 'Download'. What if you do not know the website of your laptop's manufacturer? Or, perhaps when visiting the website, you couldn't find the 'Downloads and Drivers' section? A second method for locating laptop drivers would be to visit Google (www.google.com), and entering, "Download (manufacturer) (model name and number) [type] driver" or "[type] driver for (manufacturer) (model name or number)" into the query box, substituting your own manufacturer, model name and number.

For example, if we wished to find the sound card for a Dell Latitude D600 laptop, we could go to Google. We would enter either of the following queries:

-"Download Dell Latitude D600 soundcard Drivers"

-"soundcard driver for Dell Latitude D600"

The driver download page for you laptop should appear near the top of the results returned by Google. Follow the link to the driver page, and proceed to download the drivers you need. These two methods should make it easy to locate the drivers you need for your laptop. Unfortunately, it's also one of the most hated, misunderstood and, consequently, poorly practiced areas of the job search, too, which is probably why many of us dread networking altogether. Still, like it or not, we simply must do it. It's too difficult to land a job, an internship, or a new client today without networking.

However, there is good networking and bad networking. In fact, today you'll read many articles that declare networking passe, out-of-date, or yesterday's news, because networking often seems artificial and unsophisticated by today's more savvy job seekers. This is because of some of the images we all have of networking - where we call up someone we've never met to ask them for an informational interview or for coffee, for instance - seem forced and artificial.

Worse, networking gets a bad rap because people don't respect the time and effort of the person on the other end. Here's one scenario: A student contacts an alumna from his business school and speaks to her about her company, a place where he'd really like to work. The alumna spends 20 minutes of her time over the phone with the student, and tells him that, unfortunately, there are no open positions right now at her firm. The student, dejected, hangs up, and eventually moves on to the next alumnus. In the meantime, he's never sent her so much as a thank you note. That's impolite, and gives all of us networkers a bad rap.

Networking is also uncomfortable because we're approaching people we often don't know very well and asking them for something without necessarily giving something in return. We think, "What could I possibly offer Mr. Manager at Company X? I'm just a poor business school student/unemployed job-seeker/obsessed Britney Spears fan/chocolalic." No matter how lowly on the totem pole you may feel you reside, you always, always have something to offer in exchange. Let's say you're a student from China - consider offering some unique news or information about how business is done in your country. Provide a link to an article of interest. Offer your own analysis of the company's recent acquisition. You're so smart, you'll think of something to provide, and the sooner you start to view networking as a two-way road, the easier it will start to feel.

Starting now, instead of networking, think of relationship-building - and your new goal is to have as many conversations with as many people as possible. That's it. Unlike some networking, which ends once you've gotten what you want from the relationship (i.e., a job), having conversations with as many people as possible will help you build real, genuine relationships. Think about it: If you were working at a company, would you automatically help someone get a job there that you hardly knew?

By building relationships with people, you help them get to know you and your unique qualities, and you get to know them. By understanding them in a better way, you'll learn more about their company, their job, and - who knows - you may also learn that you actually don't want a job with that company, after all.

When you build relationships to last, rather than one-off networking calls or meetings, you'll have a much greater chance of someone actually passing your resume along to the right people and really going to bat for you than you might have otherwise. And, quite frankly, by demonstrating your interest in someone else for the long haul, you also demonstrate that you're a nice person - something that goes a long way in today's world.
