My baby girl turns five in just over 24 hours.

FIVE.

Where has the time gone, it feels like only yesterday I brought her home?

Has it really be six years since we did IVF? Did we really do that?!

Is she really going to school next year?

She’s still so little, but so big at the same time.

Cliché, cliché, cliché.

I was thinking about it when I was ironing earlier (I do my best thinking while ironing) and really it does feel like I brought her home not long ago. I remember the details of her labour a lot more vividly than I remember her brother’s three years prior. I remember being whisked off to surgery with the doctors and midwives thinking it was a very big emergency & my uterus was rupturing, turns out I was just (randomly) losing a lot of blood & couldn’t talk through the contractions.

This girl of mine is funny, she’s such a little princess on one hand, she loves pink and purple, dressing up, watching the princess movies and dancing. On the other hand she is a real tom boy, climbing trees, digging in the dirt and being more of a dare-devil than her big brother. She is completely awesome and completely frustrating at the same time and I couldn’t love her anymore if I tried.

Tomorrow morning she is getting her ears pierced, she’s been asking for about 18 months but we told her she had to be at big school first. We revised that done to her fifth birthday and it’s all we’ve hard about for the last few weeks. She can’t wait to show off her new earrings & have her first birthday party with friends on Sunday.

I had a blog post planned out telling everyone how awesome my new Pink Lining nappy bag I received was.

I took over an hour to pick which design I liked and in the end I submitted my three favourites and ended up with this one (Red Butterfly Blooming Gorgeous).

I was a bit skeptical as to whether all of my things were going to fit, so I pulled everything out of my usual bag, rearranged it all in the new bag & took some photos. I even had The Baby’s help!

I wrote about how not only everything fit in easily, but also about the other funky parts to the bag…

1. Big pocket on the outside of the bag for easy access
2. Two side pockets
3. Two internal elasticised pockets
4. Detachable mirror
5. Two over the shoulder handles plus detachable shoulder strap
6. Two integrated insulated bottle holders
7. Perfect iPhone size internal pocket
8. Change pad & wet bag accessories
9. Water proof lining (in the signature “shocking pink”)
10. External cotton canvas is laminated for easy cleaning

Then I plonked it down on the tiles, packed & ready to go out, and decided to finish the post the next day once the photos were off the camera.

In the morning I came downstairs to the unmistakable smell of cat pee, my very naughty JellyBean had wee-ed all over my new Pink Lining bag. Cue much sadness and a tantrum, (figuratively) throwing said naughty kitty outside, telling him that he’d never be allowed in the house again.

After consulting the care instructions & website, there was nothing to say whether I could put the bag in the washing machine. I ummed and aahed over what to do and decided that with the smell I couldn’t use the bag, so I put it in the washing machine figuring it was ruined anyway so what more damage could be done……

After a normal cold wash cycle, with a heaping of Nappysan and washing powder, the bag came out perfectly. The shape stayed perfect, the fabric looks as it did before going in the machine & best of all the smell is gone!!

With a RRP of $125 Pink Lining bags are about the average price of a decent nappy bag, however Pink Lining is a UK brand, so postage is quite expensive. Fear not lovely reader, you can get these gorgeous bags from The Baby Closet and Sleep Tight Babies.

So we had the ultimate test of a nappy bag, dealing with lots of wee!! Not that I’d recommend testing it with cat wee before you even manage to get it out of the house! What do they say? Do not try this at home!!
