My top 5 rides to visit at Universal Studios Orlando*

Are you a rollercoaster fan? I haven't been on a rollercoaster in years but I grew up going to Dreamland in Margate and regularly got my thrills there as a teen on the American Looping Star and the Scenic Railway. I'd love to visit Universal Studios in Orlando. Opened in 1990 and co-founded by Steven Spielberg it's one of the top theme park destinations in the world.

Here are the 5 rides at Universal I'd most love to go on. Some of them are rollercoasters and some of them are virtual reality simulations. There are a couple of really family friendly rides in my picks as I'm basically a 5 year old in a 45 year old's body!

HARRY POTTER AND THE FORBIDDEN JOURNEY

I'm a massive Harry Potter fan (and proud Slytherin) so this ride is right at the top of my list. Harry Potter is great escapism from reality and what better way to do that than by flying over Hogwarts?

THE SIMPSONS RIDE

When I was with James we used to watch The Simpsons almost every day of the week. I'm a huge fan of the dysfunctional yellow family so this virtual reality coaster ride would be a beeline for me. It's good family-friendly fun.

DESPICABLE ME MINION MAYHEM

I don't know what it is about me and cute yellow critters, but I also love Minions. They're cute and silly and they love ba-na-nas, so what's not to like?! This ride is pure escapism and very family friendly, featuring a dance off at the end of the show.

THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF SPIDERMAN

This is another virtual reality ride rather than an actual rollercoaster. Watch Spiderman save the day as he soars over New York. Just make sure you don't lose your lunch when he drops 400 feet!

REVENGE OF THE MUMMY

This indoor rollercoaster takes you on a dark and scary ride complete with fire and insects as the Mummy Imhotep tries to steal your very soul! This ride looks really scary and would be sure to get your heart pounding.

How The Gut Affects Mental Health*

Gut bacteria or the 'good bacteria' in your gut helps to regulate your bowel, assists with digestion and maintains healthy levels of microbes. In case your gut bacteria is not functioning properly then you may suffer from constipation, flatulence, diarrhoea, acid reflux, bloating, and a lot more gastrointestinal ailments. If your gut isn't working correctly for a long time period it may result in serious illnesses such as irritable bowel syndrome or perhaps diverticulitis!

Gut bacteria are necessary since they are the bacteria that keep your entire digestive system secure. They are the bacteria that antibiotics kill, so if you are ill frequently and will need to take a great deal of antibiotics afterwards your gut bacteria will be deficient. This is going to cause diarrhoea. If you choose antibiotics, all of the gut bacteria can be ruined. However, your gut bacteria isn't often considered as being the probable cause of a mental health issue.

Latest research, however, indicates that a number of bacteria known as Gamma-aminobutyric acid or GABA, may influence somebody's emotional health if there's a scarcity of this substance. If you are missing GABA, you can be identified as suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and fatigue but what is often ignored is that you may be also afflicted by susceptibility to stress, causing nervousness, depression and possibly autism.

GABA has a role as a neurotransmitter, sending messages to the mind and nervous system. It is also involved in regulating the communication between our brain cells. Studies have proven that GABA can restrain anxiety and affect our behaviour, so when it's low we don't feel as calm or relaxed or having difficulty sleeping too. Dealing with anxiety, we may turn to cigarettes (much worse than even the best vape). More studies will need to be carried out in this area, but this new information is possibly a good insight to explain the link between our bowel and emotional health problems.

The good thing is that GABA may be raised naturally with foods high in magnesium and vitamin B. It is a fantastic idea to have an organic multi-vitamin daily, as nobody eats perfectly every day - a supplement will make sure you don't become deficient in minerals and vitamins. Green tea and chamomile are also good for increasing those bacteria levels. These foods and vitamins have shown in certain tests to increase gut bacteria and consequently an increase in an individual's mental health capabilities. Additionally, there are a number of other all-natural approaches to improve mental wellbeing, manage stress, anxiety and depression. Ask your therapist to learn what you will need to do if you suffer from one of these ailments.

GABA hence has the capability to be a fantastic supplement if you're feeling a little away or have been suffering from poor anxiety, depression, or even PMS. Bear in mind your mood may be changed by levels of hormones and also how the thyroid is working. Conversely, GABA can improve your mood, impacting your emotions and putting a positive slant on your perspective.

Planning a wedding is no small feat. Sure, you might have planned large parties before but the pressure on this day and the number of things you need to organise can quickly get on top of you.

There are lots of things you will learn as a bride-to-be and the whole process is a fantastic opportunity to get exactly what you want, even if it’s just for a day. But with so many things on your ever-growing list, what do you need to prioritise right now?

The Venue

The very first thing you need to think about is where you want to get married and whether you want to stay there for your wedding breakfast and party or if you want to move everyone to another location. For some people, a hotel is a natural choice as this means that you don’t need to go very far at all on the day and relatives and friends traveling longer distances can stay over too.

The main thing to watch out for here is the cost. Venues can charge a lot of money for a simple exchange of vows and you should definitely be careful of not-so-optional extra charges. For many people, choosing separate venues and paying for transport actually turns out to be a lot cheaper and get you exactly what you want.

The Band

If you want live music at your wedding, you definitely need to get in touch with your preferred band ASAP. Websites like https://www.alivenetwork.com/hirelivemusic/wedding_bands_in.asp?area=Suffolk are great for finding local talents, no matter what sort of music you are into.

The reason you need to book so quickly is that bands tend to book way into the future. The other reason, which will probably be obvious if you are a musician yourself, is that bands really like to have time to rehearse so if you have a list of songs you really want, they need time to learn them!

The Food

Another surprise early book but the food is a big ticket item for your wedding day and it can take time to decide what you want and how many you can afford to feed. While low key wedding breakfasts are more popular and cocktail receptions are becoming a thing too, food needs to be a top priority to keep people happy.

Again, caterers tend to get booked well in advance so if you have a particular taste or you like a particular company, you should definitely get in there quickly. The same goes for your wedding cake. If you want a bespoke cake that’s really going to stand out, you need to book in quickly so that you get the designer you want.

Once you have sorted out these big ticket items, there is still a lot left to do but at least you know that on your wedding day, all the basics will be in place. And, if you have started planning nice and early, you will still have plenty of time to do all the fun things like finding your outfits and making decorations.

I'm back with an outfit post - well, actually two of them! Curvissa are running an awesome campaign at the moment called the Summer Of Yes. CURVISSA TROPICAL PRINT MAXI DRESS

I'm wearing this dress in a size 28 and it's true to size. I decided to dress it down for daywear with plimsolls and a denim jacket but it'd look fabulous dressed up for the evening too.

The dress has corset-like tie fastenings on both sides so you can nip your waist in, which I've done here. It's lined to the mid thigh and is such a good quality heavyweight dress.

SHEEGO FLORAL EMBROIDERED TOP & BOOTCUT JEANS

I was also sent a couple of other items. I chose some bootcut cropped jeans with the aim of turning them into rolled up jeans shorts. I can't do this with skinny jeans as my calves are so big so bootcut jeans are the way forward. Although the jeans are cropped, because I have stumpy legs they're almost full length on me. 😁 Because I carry most of my weight in my bum, belly and thighs I sized up 2 sizes to a size 32 in the jeans. Curvissa advises you to size up one size anyway as their jeans are tighter fitting than most other brands'. They're a little too big but nothing a belt won't fix. They have lovely embroidery on them and have loads of stretch. I also chose a white top with floral sequin arrangements. It's a really soft 100% cotton material and the tassels are a cute touch. I also sized up in the top to a size 30/32 because I wanted an airy, swing look.

I love my old lady sandals from Shoezone. They have velcro at the both the toes and the ankle and they're so soft and spongy to walk on. I had a conversation with my man about buying old lady sandals when we were in the shop and he said "Well, you are 45!" So this is middle age - being happy with comfortable shoes!

What To Wear To Visit Disney World*

I remember as a child and teenager being jealous of my peers whose parents were taking them on a family holiday to Disney World. I grew up seeing Disney World adverts on tv and it always looked so magical. As a small child I had a black hat with mouse ears on which I wore until it fell to pieces. I even used to wear it to church. Even as an adult it's still on my bucket list to go to Disney World one day, and here's what kind of thing I'd be wearing for the trip.

Comfy shoes

Comfy shoes have got to be at the top of the list as there's a LOT of walking to be done - there's the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT Centre, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom, as well as the water parks and more! Skechers are my go to comfortable shoes and I have a few pairs - their memory foam insoles really are like walking on air, perfect for a long day on your feet. These slip ons with fastenings offer great support, and you can machine wash them as well at the end of a trip to freshen them up. Just don't tumble dry them or they'll shrink. They are an expensive outlay but your feet will really thank you for it, trust me.

Minnie Ears

You can't go to Disney World without wearing Minnie ears, it's absolutely got to be done! These sequinned ones are a great price and would keep your hair off your face on a hot Florida day. I think I'd go for the ones on the left as the more colour the better for me!

Polka Dots

To me, Disney screams Minnie Mouse polka dots so I'd have to wear something polka dot print. This plus size Lyra dress by Lady Voluptuous is stylish and comfortable, and as it's made of stretch jersey it'll be great for those humid Florida days.

Tips on How to Dress for a Summer Wedding*

Summer has arrived which means that there are sure to be a few weddings on your calendar to look forward to. There is nothing quite like a wedding and they are always great fun, but it can be hard to know what to wear particularly if you have a few weddings to attend. With this in mind, here are a few tips to help you navigate the summer wedding season.

Check the Invite

Before you start searching for an outfit you should check the invite as this is likely to say what the dress code is and if there is any particular theme to be aware of. Always follow any instructions on the invite - you don’t want to stand out and upset the happy couple! If you are not sure on what to wear or what the etiquette is then ask other people for guidance and what they are wearing.

Material & Colour

You will, of course, want to look your best on the big day but you must also consider comfort particularly if you are going to be there all day. Weddings can be tiring and hot in the summer months so think about a material or colour which will be comfortable yet flattering. Breezy, lightweight materials and light colours/patterns are ideal - just remember to not wear white!

Choose Accessories Carefully

The accessories that you wear provide you with the chance to make a summer outfit a little bit classier and more sophisticated but make sure that they are not too elaborate. Something like diamond earrings from a place like F Hinds is an excellent choice and will certainly make any outfit pop.

Plan for the Evening

Keep in mind that even in the middle of summer the evenings can get chilly. This means that you should have some kind of jacket or blazer to put on once the sun goes down so that you can stay warm while still looking smart and stylish.

Consider Footwear & Where the Wedding Is

It is a good idea to find out where the wedding and reception are being held so that you can pick out an appropriate pair of shoes. If the reception is being held on grass, for example, then you will want to switch out the heels for something flat yet still elegant.

Summer wedding season is always great fun, but it can be hard to plan your outfit especially if you have multiple weddings to attend. Hopefully this information will help you to plan the perfect outfit which will help you to look and feel your best while still adhering to the dress code. It is essential that you follow whatever dress code the couple have stated and to always check with other guests what they are wearing just to make sure that what you have planned is appropriate.

Mac Or PC: Which Is Best For A Fashion Blogger?*

The age old question of whether a Mac or PC is better has been around since the dawn of computers. It’s the same as asking which is better: tea or coffee, ready salted or cheese and onion, DC or Marvel, coast or country, Nikon or Canon. While this question will continue to be debated long after you have finished reading this article, there are some pointers to look for when it comes to making the decision about which to plump for when purchasing your next bit of hardware. You could place your emphasis on colour, shape, or whether the speakers are loud and of good audio quality. However, there may be more important aspects of your purchase that you should consider.

Computers were once hefty desktop things, but they have now morphed into the more convenient and smaller laptop varieties. Both Mac and PC have ventured into this realm to create exceptional machines. No one is arguing that one is a poor imitation of the other. You simply need to consider whether Mac or PC best suits your needs. While they have many similarities, it is their differences that will help you decide which computer you prefer. If you are a fashion blogger, which laptop should you go for?

Hardware

While boring and super technical, it is imperative that you check out the hardware of your device. You need to consider the RAM, the memory, the speed and the display of your machine to ensure that it is a user friendly experience for you. You may assume that the sleekness and postmodern adored-by-millennial Apple may win this hands down. After all, they produced the MacBook Air that looks as light as a feather, is ridiculously thin and lightweight, and yet still squeezes in all the performance of a monster machine.

However, the PC has many more laptop varieties, from the Dells of the world to the more aesthetically pleasing Sonys. The colours are almost endless, so you can choose the ultra formal black or a quirkier rose gold. There are an array of different screen sizes and resolutions to play with, and there is a wealth of processors to pick to suit your budget. You could even have a PC with a touchscreen capability, making your blogging a breeze compared to having to tap away on a keyboard for hours on end.

Software And Apps

With Microsoft being the stalwart of the PC, they seemed to have a monopoly on the word processing and spreadsheet-esque software packages. However, Apple has its own version which gives Microsoft a run for its money. Of course, you may choose to forget the free trial before having to purchase your Microsoft Office 365, and instead go for some open source software. With your Mac, the Office Suite equivalent is free - great for those heavy blogging days.

In terms of apps, the Mac doesn’t come loaded with rubbish and filler that you’ll end up uninstalling to free up some much needed space. You will have an exceptional photo app, a decent movie maker, word processing tools and the opportunity to download extras from the Apple Store. This is your laptop created for your preferences with the capability to be highly personalised. For the avid fashion blogger, the Flume app makes using Instagram on your laptop a much more pleasurable experience. You can forget about having to rely on your smartphone, to scroll through your feed on the big screen instead.

Your PC will come with more free trials that you didn’t even want to sign up for, and way more pop ups. This is ok for the individuals who want all of this extra software kit, but it’s not great for the streamline fashion blogger.

Security

While you might not be blogging about the most confidential or secret of subjects, you still don’t want any old hacker compromising your posts, infiltrating your blog and stealing your content. Apple is more secure simply because there are fewer laptops with the Mac interface. Hackers tend to prefer going after Windows powered machines. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t invest in some decent free anti-virus software for your Windows PC to ensure that you don’t fall victim to a cyber criminal. Whatever laptop you choose should have more than a mere firewall to protect it.

Money

If you don’t have very deep pockets, then a PC is the way to go. They range in price from under £200 for an entry level basic model to over a couple of grand. However, if you want a Mac, you won’t get much for under £600, and this is only for the bog standard generic bit of kit. MacBook Airs are way more expensive. Value for money rests with the PC. There are many more retailers of PC laptops, and there is a greater variety of choice. There are deals to be had with software bundles, which could be useful for your blogging credentials.

Intuitiveness

The amount of times Windows has rehashed its interface is shocking, especially when some of these updates are anything but user friendly. Does anyone remember Windows 8? The most recent update - Windows 10 - is more exciting with Cortana coming on board to rival Siri. The interface is user friendly and easy to navigate.

The great thing about Apple’s interface, OS X, is that it rarely deviates much from its tried and tested aesthetically pleasing menus and design. It has steered clear of the whole touch screen capability believing it to be little more than a gimmick whereas Windows have fully embraced the concept. It’s up to you how much emphasis you place on this quality.

Choosing a laptop is difficult, especially with the vast array on offer. Consider what it is you want from a machine, think about how you will use it for your blogging, and go with function over form. Laptops are built to last if you choose a good brand, so spend as much as your budget will allow.

Ah, essential oils. They don’t just smell divine; they can benefit our health in a number of ways. Whether you’re physically soar or seeking calm, there’s likely one to suit your needs.

Unsurprisingly, each tends to have a specific effect – so, it’s important that you know what to look for.

Lavender

Want to unwind? Lavender may hold the solution. People have used the plant to relieve stress for centuries – and to great effect.

Various studies have heavily suggested that it’s useful for aiding relaxation, both within the body and the mind. As an essential oil, it’s particularly effective, especially in the bath.

So long as it’s paired with carrier oil (as water and oil don’t mix), you stand to release mental tension. Place four to five drops in your tub, and you’ll feel tranquil for hours afterwards.

For a good night’s sleep, a few sprinkles on your pillow may help you to easily drift off. Lavender can be the ultimate essential oil for tranquillity.

Chamomile

If you really want to feel calm, how about chamomile? It won’t just soothe your mind – it could heal irritated or sore skin.

It’s used by many people as an anti-inflammatory, as it typically has a gentle feel. If you plan to use it directly on your skin, remember to be careful, particularly if you have sensitive skin.

Always dilute it with carrier oil. To stay completely safe, why not ask your pharmacist or doctor about how best to apply it?

Once you’ve found a suitable solution for you, rub it onto clean, warm skin. For maximum effect, it’s usually best to oil-up just after a bath.

Use it wisely, and you could improve the look and feel of your skin.

Jasmine Absolute

Jasmine emits a glorious scent. Floral, uplifting and clean, it’s a favourite among many aromatherapists – and it’s easy to see why.

Very often, it can really boost our mood. Breathe it in, and you may very well notice a difference in how you feel.

Of course, when made into an essential oil, its aromatic benefits intensify. Just imagine how uplifting bathing in it could be!

Unlike with gentle chamomile, however, try to refrain from using the oil – or any dilutions of it – on your skin, as it could cause irritation. Instead, limit it to baths. If your skin is highly sensitive, opt for a diluted version of it.

You’re bound to feel refreshed by its scent.

Pink Clove floral wrap hi low dress

Hello lovelies,

How are you?

I'm back with a fashion post. My aunt bought this dress to cheer me up when I was down a while ago, and Mookie took photos for me. I have such good people in my life, I'm so thankful.

Now on the Pink Clove website this dress is listed as black but it's more like a dark brown, as you can see better in the close up further down the post.

It comes with a fabric belt in the same material but it's so well fitted for me I'm only wearing it for decoration.

I'm wearing a size 28 and it fits well everywhere except the bust, so I'm wearing a camisole underneath to prevent flashing my boobs. You could always use a safety pin to save wearing an extra layer. I've worn the dress a few times so far and it washes well.

How To Be The Healthiest Version Of You*

With the stress of family, work and life as a whole, any concern for your general health tends to take a back seat. Without a noticeable large problem, many people continue on their paths of ignorant self destruction and unhealthy habits whilst unbeknownst to them, their insides are beginning to face challenges that could have been prevented. Staying healthy is easier than you may think, and with a few simple changes and a bit of hard work, you can make sure that you’re ready to face each new day with vigour, and no doubts that both your mind and body are strong enough to handle whatever life throws at you.

Change Your Diet

A healthy diet containing all of the required vitamins and minerals will allow your body and mind to function to their maximum potential day after day. Focus on the nutrition side of things rather than the calories, as it should be a lifestyle change that you stick to long term so it must be a positive and sustainable journey that is not focused on deprivation. Replace some usual unhealthy snack choices like chocolate and sweets for fresh fruit and yoghurt, and switch up your regular crisps and crackers for nuts and seeds. You will be able to feel the positive effects that happen almost immediately as you transform the way you eat, and you should aim to continue making changes in order to ensure you follow the best diet you can. This should consist of protein from lean meats like chicken or pulses like chickpeas and lentils, at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day, complex carbohydrates like brown rice and wholemeal bread and healthy fats such as small amounts of olive oil and eggs. Your diet can have a huge effect on your mental health, as blood sugar levels are all over the place when eating bad foods, meaning that your mood becomes unstable as a result.

Regular Exercise

Exercising can help you in many different ways. By doing at least 30 minutes 5 times a week, you can build your strength and stamina both for sport and life in general. Exercise does wonders for cardiovascular health, and can help to prevent a wide range of related illnesses. Each time you work up a sweat you will be releasing endorphins that can elevate and lift your mood and provide you with a feeling of even more energy than you had before you started. Even just by taking a walk before or after dinner each day, you will be able to burn off some calories and aid digestion, helping yourself little by little to get closer to becoming the healthiest version of you. Start of slowly and don’t punish yourself for not being an athlete within the first couple of months; enjoy the journey and the changes that are happening to your mind and body.

Overcoming Bad Habits

Many people have dependencies they’d rather not discuss, but these can stop you from being the healthiest person you have the potential of becoming. Developing an unhealthy coping mechanism or allowing a bad habit to take control is a very upsetting experience, but addiction help is available for everyone no matter what position you are in. Battling bad habits can be a very hard and stressful task, but you will be giving yourself the opportunity to live a full and happy life. Establish some kind of support network, contact the appropriate medical services and begin your journey to a happier you. Trust in the process and don’t be too self depreciative when you encounter a block in the road, as self belief is one of the most important aspects of recovery. Reward yourself in other ways for your hard work, such as a long and peaceful hot bath or a healthy home cooked comfort meal.

Meditate

Practicing mindfulness and meditation can provide you with a wealth of benefits for both your mind and body. Take the opportunity each day to reflect on the experiences and feelings you’ve had, and spend some time in the company if yourself without any distractions to gain some clarity and adopt a more level headed viewpoint. It would appear that regular practice can help to combat anxiety and depression, and just generally help to improve your mood overall. The British Medical Journal also found that mindfulness meditation can help to lower blood pressure, so there are many positive effects. It takes time to master the skill but it’s definitely worth your effort. Be patient with yourself, as you will likely need to practice quite a few times before you start to feel as if you have accomplished the state you were craving.

Review Your Circle

Your close circle of friends may actually be detrimental to your health. They are a huge influence on the decisions you make, and can encourage you to pursue bad choices that can damage your health, whether this be through their own ignorance or on purpose. If you only meet a person to go drinking or do some other kind of somewhat harmful activity, reevaluate the purpose of your friendship. If someone does not help and encourage you to grow and thrive, they do not deserve a place in your life. By seeking others who have the same positive goals and mindset, you are opening yourself up to an amazing opportunity to take your happiness to the next level, and create a support network of individuals you trust and provide you with something rather than just taking.

Putting in some hard work in order to make positive, healthy life changes is an important step to becoming the best version of yourself. Wholesome food, regular sport and healthy coping mechanisms will get you set in the right direction towards living the healthiest life possible. It’s as important to keep your mind healthy as it is your body, so be sure to nurture your soul as well as your stomach and you will feel the benefits of both almost immediately.

Simply Be square neck jumpsuit

Hi lovelies,

Long time no blog.

How are you?! If you follow me on social media you'll know I have a new man, Enyo, who's beyond lovely and treats me so well. I've been spending a lot of time staying with him on the SE coast, where he lives. He took these photos.

The jumpsuit is made from a thick crepe material which has some slight stretch. There are no zips to help you get into it so I sized up to a size 32, which was good as it's undersized anyway. It's shown on the model on Simply Be to be just below knee length, but I'm a shortie!

This jumpsuit is in the sale for just £13.13 so it's out of stock in many sizes, so I've linked to similar jumpsuits.

How To Prepare For Your Summer Holiday*

It’s that time of year again, the sun is out, and everyone’s talking about where they’re going this year! It’s so exciting, but as usual, there’s lots of planning to be done. If you’ve not already decided where you’re going and when then now’s the time do it and then the countdown is on, and it’s time to prepare, so what do you need to do?

Check Your Travel Documents

Check that your passport is up to date and especially for the country you are going to as some require it to be valid for another six months and you also need two blank pages in your passport too. Make sure you’ve got your health or travel insurance too and all the papers you need. If you’re going to be doing any sports on holiday, then make sure you have those covered.

Healthcare

Do you need any vaccines or medication for where you are going? If so it’s likely you need them done in advance so check now. Also, if you take any medication, make sure that you have enough for a while you are away and that you’re able to take them to the country you’re going to.

Go Shopping

Yes, treat yourself to your new summer wardrobe and a few swimsuits but also remember to stock up on sunscreen and anything else that’s likely to be expensive or difficult to get wherever you are going. If you’re taking hand luggage, then remember that any liquids or toiletries need to be travel-sized so either buy small ones or get some containers and transfer your favorites into them.

Technology

It’s always worth having a universal adapter, and a Kindle or iPad or any tablet actually is far easier to travel with than a few heavy books. Just don’t forget your chargers. Also, check your data roaming package before you go and if you need to get an add-on to make it cheaper for you, then do this in advance.

Money

It is a lot cheaper to get your foreign currency in advance rather than buying it at the airport or when you get to your destination. Have a look for the best rates online, and you may even be able to buy it online and get it delivered to you. If you do plan on using your bank card or credit card while you’re away then let your bank know that you will be going so that they don’t think your cards have been stolen.

Final Thoughts

Check the weather forecast before you go, if you’re in for a week of rain then it’s better to know about it and to be prepared. If you’re waiting for any important post, such as exam results or some important news, then check out physicaladdress.com so you can get your post online while you’re away. Finally, book your transport to the airport if you need to, do this as soon as possible so it’s one thing off the list and you know it’s done before the taxi firms get booked up.

The Spoonie Exercise Guide*

If you are someone living with chronic illness, whether that be fibromyalgia or chronic depression, looking after yourself can be one of the last things on your mind. On days where you are really struggling, it can be hard to just get on with the essentials of the day, let alone doing anything to look after yourself. But for things like exercise, as hard as they may be to get up and get going, can actually really benefit those of us living with chronic illness.

Reasons to Exercise

The reasons to exercise can seem pretty self-explanatory. We all know about the standard things like calorie burning and helping you to sleep better; exercise is good for your body as well as your mind. This is something that we all know. However, the reasons to exercise are the same for people with chronic illness or something like fibromyalgia as well. In fact, if you are someone with Fibro, The NFCPA (or National Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Association), have explained how not moving your muscles can cause them to decrease in size, or cause them to atrophy. And when this happens, it can cause even more pain, and so the cycle goes on and on. Not to mention the benefits for your mental health, as exercise can give you a distraction, a release of happy hormones to lift your mood, and help to eliminate stress as well.

Benefits of Exercise

Again, like the reasons to exercise, the benefits of exercise are not something new and that we don’t already know. But because they are so obvious and we all know what they mean, there are still many of us that don’t exercise, even if we know it is going to help alleviate some pain or suffering of chronic illness. The benefits of exercise really are great for Fibromyalgia patients. Some of which are:

Getting better sleep, which is a must if you are lacking energy
Better range of motion can come as a result of exercise, making everyday activities much easier
An improved mood is also a great benefit, which can be much needed for spoonies and mental health sufferers
You do burn calories when you exercise and that can help you to maintain or control your weight
Having an increased energy can be a result of exercising which can be needed when everyday life can be painful or a struggle

Relieving pain is one of the number one reasons why those with long-term pain should exercise

It is important to note that these things are not cures to your chronic illness, but can go a long way to helping you feel better, if only for a while. There won’t be many of us that are perfect in our exercise routine, it is an area that we need to work on. But finding something that you enjoy really is the number one thing that will help you to stick at it and hopefully, make you actually want to exercise. Here are a few of the things that you could try, that will all help with those benefits listed above:

Pilates or Yoga

For those of us with chronic illness that haven’t been taking care of ourselves, a high-impact aerobics or spin class isn’t something that springs to mind immediately. Instead, yoga or pilates can be a great option as it can be gentle and really helps you to use your body weight to strengthen yourself, rather than using weights. You never know, you might find yourself wondering why become a pilates instructor, because you enjoy it so much. But it can be a great way to feel better, and help others to feel better too.

Swimming

If you are someone that is overweight as a result of chronic illness, then you might find that something like running is really difficult. Instead, swimming is a great alternative as there is much less pressure on your body and on your joints, but you still get in a great workout. There are so many things you can do in a pool from swimming lengths to talking part in an aqua-aerobics class.

Walking

Simply moving more by walking more is a simple way to lift your mood and hopefully, help to alleviate your pain a little. You can do it around where you live, where you work, or anything in between. It is great as it is practical too; need to go to the shops? Then you can walk there instead of driving, to get two things done at the same time.

Hiya loves!

I'm absolutely head to toe in JD Williams in this outfit.

I'm in love with this sunray pleated skirt. It's SO soft and touchable and it's so swishy! Why not check out JD Williams' range of dresses?

The leather look jacket is the perfect length for me as I have a short torso. It's got 2 pockets - I love pockets on everything! It has a metal hook clasp to fasten it below the bust but I prefer to wear it open.

The sequin t shirt is very oversized so I've got it tied in a knot at the side. I'm wearing a size 28 in the jacket and t shirt and a size 26 in the skirt.

These Brandy shoes are such good value at £12! Please excuse the cigarette end in the shot, I didn't see it there when we were taking photos.

Pink Clove Mercedes leopard print dress #Ad

Hello lovelies!

Long time no see. I hope you're all doing well? I'm doing great! I have a new man and the future seems somewhat rosy. 😀

I'm wearing the Mercedes wrap dress in a size 28 and it's true to size. It's made of a lovely crepe fabric and there's no gaping at the bust. I know I'll get a lot of wear out of this dress.

Did you know Pink Clove now do footwear? I'm also wearing their leather boots with rose gold studs and buckles. These are really comfortable wide fit boots which fit my very fat ankles well - sometimes I have a problem zipping up ankle boots.

Introducing Unique21's new plus size Hero line*

Hello lovelies,

I was recently contacted by Unique 21 to tell me about their new plus size line, and I have 3 lovely items to show you today - a brown polka dot cullotte jumpsuit, leopard print blouse and a champagne satin blouse. I'm wearing a size 26 in all three items and I found them all generous in size.

This jumpsuit is well made from a thick fabric which is ideal for this time of year. It has a long side zip opening to help you shimmy it on and a self tie belt. It is a culotte jumpsuit so it's meant to rest above the ankles. As I'm only 5ft 5 it is a longer length on me though. This is a great colour for autumn and goes well with mustard and burnt orange shades.

This blouse is a lovely weighty crepe with a side tie and one popper fastening. I find it very oversized so have to wear a camisole under it, but that's good news for people over a size 26 as it would fit a size 28, maybe even 30. Leopard print is the hottest thing this A/W so this piece would be a welcome addition to any wardrobe. Classy yet sassy!

This blouse is a lovely slinky satin with a pussy bow tie. It does need ironing but holds it well - it's not a fabric that creases up the moment you move. Nor did the fabric pull so easily. I found it oversized again. This is a blouse which'll contrast well with other luxe fabrics like leather, pleather or velvet.

All in all I'm very pleased with the quality of these three items and will definitely be on the look out for more Unique21 Hero pieces in future. They also sell separate lines on ASOS, so check them out there too.

The only lightweight jacket you need this Autumn feat. New Look

Hello lovelies!

If you follow me on Instagram you'll have read that just lately I can't get enough of nature's colours like mustard, rust and forest green. This outfit I'm wearing today is my favourite one for a long time as it combines mustard and rust, two colours which I think compliment each other perfectly.

It's funny, because when I was younger I absolutely hated the colours of nature and thought women who wore them had given up on life! 😄 How things change! This duster jacket is amazing and I'm going to wear it with everything. It has two pockets, a one button fastening and is a medium weight fabric just right to take the chill off Autumn evenings.

I'm wearing the duster jacket in a size 26, the blouse in a size 24 and the jeggings in a size 28. And oh my God, are the jeggings comfortable! At £7 I'm going to buy out the shop. They are amaaaaazing! They're high waisted too and they smooth out my bumps. Go buy some if they have some left in the sale in your size!

George at Asda mustard jumper

Hey loves!

Today I'm wearing an outfit which everyone went ape for on Instagram.

I'm wearing an XL which is a size 20-22, but it's very large fitting. It's also available in store in grey and powder blue and due to the stretch of the knit and the large arms I think it'd fit someone up to a size 32.

6 months on the coil

Hello lovelies,

I've been on the Mirena coil for almost 6 months now and I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You can read my post about having the coil fitted here. My periods pre-coil were horrific, and even though I was taking Tranexamic acid (to reduce blood flow) and Mefenamic acid (an anti inflammatory painkiller) I would still get through a couple of boxes of additional painkillers each period, as well as 2-3 packs of max flow night time pads. I could spend up to 3 days of every 5 day period in bed as the pain was so horrific, and the bleeding was intense. I couldn't wait for menopause.

The first 4 months of being on the coil was HORRIBLE, I'm not going to lie. I was bleeding for 10-11 days out of every 21. Yes, really! The blood flow and pain were reduced from the very first period and I never needed to use Tranexamic acid and Mefenamic acid again, but being on my period so long and with such a short time in between was really annoying. I must've had about 8 periods in these 6 months, but they only started getting better from my second to last period. That time I had a 24 day cycle, and I only bled for 5 days. This was also the first month I didn't bleed through my underwear onto the bedding in the night. My last period (last week) was 5 days long and I had a 27 day cycle, so things are getting really good now. My last period was great - the flow was so light that I'm hoping in another 6 months I may not be having periods at all.

Have you got the coil? Are you thinking about having it fitted? I really wish I'd had it done years ago, even with the initial teething problems.

Asos Design Curve cross back smock dress

Hello lovelies!

I've got another fashion post for you today. I'm on a roll - I seem to have my mojo back! Today I'm wearing the Asos Design Curve cross back smock dress in slub, and it's a really comfy throw on dress made that little bit more special by the low V back. As you can see it does reveal my bra so do be aware of that. This would be the perfect dress if only it had pockets. I want pockets on EVERYTHING.

I'm wearing it in a size 28, and as usual with ASOS items, it does come up big. I like it for those days where I don't want to feel confined - perfect for when I'm on my period.

Life Lately - Oct 2018

Hello loves.

I thought I'd share a bit about why I've been gone for 4 months. Life has been really hard for me lately and I haven't really felt like doing anything except sleeping! For a few months now I've had problems with my left hip. For a couple of months it was sore but I could still get about - I could visit friends and use public transport to a certain extent but now I can barely walk around the supermarket in one go.

I woke up two weeks ago in absolute agony in my hip, unable to do anything but hobble. I went to A&E on Monday last week as I was in so much pain. They put me on some strong painkillers and I can at least walk without crying but I'm still in an awful lot of pain. My doctor thinks it's osteoarthritis.

I'm on the waiting list for physio but basically life as I knew it is pretty much over. My mobility is shot to shit. All my thoughts have been about finding a man in recent months and now they're about mobility aids. 😆😆😆 My family have been excellent throughout. My aunt is spending a terrifying amount of money having the bathroom refitted to my needs - we're getting an extra wide and deep spa bath with 14 water jets, and it's a also a bath with a door so I don't have to climb over the bath to shower. We're getting a new shower and screen as well, and the bath comes with a lift to help me get in and out. My mum and aunt did my food shopping for me last week as I was in too much pain to do it. I felt totally useless sitting in the cafe waiting for them to do it for me, but they took it in their stride. I don't know what life is going to look like for me in the future, but with my family behind me I'll be OK. I should get the results of my x rays on Friday.

I hope things are OK with all of you. I need to catch up on some blog reading!

It's been a while. I have a personal post planned to explain why I've been away so long but for now here's a fashion post. I bought this lovely Simply Be dress a few weeks ago and my bestie Mookie took photos of me.

I'm wearing this dress in a size 26 and it fits great. For a long time Simply Be's clothes were very undersized but it doesn't seem to be the case any more - yay! I love the ruched sleeves and the dark floral print is perfect for autumn and winter. The only drawback is the fabric is a little thin, but that means you can layer up in a cosy cardigan as well.

A holiday look with Debenhams

Hello lovelies,

I've teamed up with Debenhams in this post to show you a holiday look. I chose a cool and airy jersey dress from Dorothy Perkins Curve to base my look around, and accessorised it with a bang-on-trend straw bag, gold sandals and some statement earrings. I was surprised at how many plus size dresses are on the Debenhams website, with brands such as Scarlett and Jo, Studio 8 and Evans for sale.

Go buy this dress, seriously. It's so comfortable and it's under £20!

Serving up VBO realness.

This dress is so affordable and can be dressed up for evening or down for day time. It'd look just as good with some lace up plimsolls and a denim jacket as it would strappy sandals and a sparkly clutch. One thing to point out - the dress is described as coral but is more of a tomato red. I'm wearing a size 28 and it's true to size, perhaps even a little oversized. It comes in a bunch of other colours too - black, khaki, pink, navy etc. It's effortlessly cool - the sleeves are the perfect length and the tie waist is accented with gold hardware. I'm going to buy some in other colours, I can't help myself!

Simply Be floral frill playsuit

Hello lovelies,

I'm back with a summery outfit today. I'm wearing the Simply Be floral frill playsuit, a lovely tomato red cardigan also from them and pumps from George at Asda. There's a widget at the end with links to all three items.

This outfit (minus the shoes) was a gift to me from one of my readers - you know who you are, thank you! I've never worn a playsuit before and didn't think they were for me but I've changed my mind. Because of chub rub I'd wear cropped leggings underneath if I were going walking though.

There's one big thing you need to know about this playsuit and that is there's no zip in the back so you have to cram your hips through the neck hole. I was convinced it was going to rip the first time I put it on, but thank God it didn't. It's a non-stretch viscose material with cute little frills on the shoulders and legs, and it has pockets!

I took these photos on self timer in the back garden as there was no one in to do my photos. I do miss my ex's photography skills, I have to admit! My photos have gone to shit since I've been a singleton.

The cardigan is lovely and soft but I didn't have it on for long as it was boiling hot. I'm wearing a size 28 in both items. If you're busty like me I'd advise sizing up in the cardi as there is some button gape when it's done up.

As you can see I've got my knobbly knees and cellulite out in these photos. I think it's a terrible state of affairs that there's this expectation on young (ish) people to only flash the flesh if it's 'perfect' and blemish free. In some respects I can't wait to be old and give no shits about my wrinkly, less-than-perfect flesh.

At This Moment 10 | Lifestyle

Hello loves! It's been a few months since I've done one of these posts so what have I been up to?! Read on.

WATCHING

I've just powered through The Alienist on Netflix, which I loved, and now I'm watching La Mante (The Mantis) about a serial killer from the 90s and her modern day copycat. It's a French show with English subtitles. I love subtitled shows because they force me to concentrate and take my head out of my phone. Due to the nature of the show, there is some gore in the trailer. Finding a trailer with English subtitles to embed here was impossible, but you can see it here.

READING

I'm currently reading No Man's Land by David Baldacci. He certainly writes a long ol' book! I think the last one I read by him was well over 500 pages long, and this one is just over 600 pages long.

MAKING

I'm making money disappear out of my bank account. I've got a bee in my bonnet about getting a capsule wardrobe together due to space and financial constraints. I've always bought what I fancied without any thought to whether it goes with anything else. No wonder I've gotten through so many clothes and donated so many over the years. I need to shop smarter, not harder. I mentioned I was thinking of starting a capsule wardrobe in my clothing haul post and in the last few weeks I've invested in a few classics that should help my goal. Unfortunately the quest for a capsule wardrobe is not helping my bank account at the moment, although it will do long term when I've got loads to wear because I'll have all the basics.

STARTING

I'm still talking about my capsule wardrobe, sorry! I read this post by Danielle Vanier -16 key pieces to help you build a plus size wardrobe. I urge you to have a look if like me you have 67 dresses but barely any basics and feel like you never have anything to wear! I had a bunch of these pieces in my possession already, and I've bought a few more essentials in the last month. There are a couple of items that just aren't me - like a trench coat, and I'm not a fan of knitwear even in winter - but my personal peccadilloes aside, there's a load of good advice in that post. It's funny how quickly my opinion changed as well - I saw culottes were on the list and thought 'Nah, not for me!' Then last week I was in London on a boiling hot day and saw LOADS of women wearing culottes and I basically fell in love with the idea of getting my ankles out. Go me. Victorian ladies would be scandalised. 😝😝😝

I bought some black culottes and a plain white shirt dress tonight. All I need to finish off my capsule wardrobe are some skinny ankle grazer trousers, a plain black jumpsuit and (if I find some soft ones that don't irritate my skin) a good pair of skinny jeans. After that I'm putting myself on a spending ban!

FINISHING

Spending money! Earning some would be better. 😜

The lovely weather we've been having. It's a different kind of depression when the sun is shining than when it's cold and rainy.
