As anyone who visits here regularly has likely already concluded, I really don’t have time to maintain a weblog. jwdunn.com has been a fun experiment in webdesign and online self-promotion, but as of today I’m leaving it behind in favor of a new, more static personal website.
From now on, josephwdunn.com will be my home on

Since my last post I’ve been busy over at SC2GG, writing previews and reports for all of SK Telecom T1’s Proleague matches. Check the linklist for individual articles, or read them all here. Since I started covering T1, the team has gone 6-0 and surged into a tie with Lecaf Oz for first place in

Unfortunately for the pageviews of jwdunn.com, I have discovered yet another hobby to distract me from writing here. This week I agreed to cover SK Telecom T1’s 2008 Proleague season for the Starcraft fansite SC2GG.
As I mentioned in my introduction to Starcraft progaming several months ago, the Proleague is the main arena for team competition

For people like me who are extremely particular about how their computer looks and operates, the boot process is just itching to be tinkered with. There are plenty of free applications and nifty terminal commands which make minor changes to your Mac’s behavior during startup possible — and most of them aren’t purely aesthetic. Here’s

As promised, I’ve been keeping up on the GomTV Star Invitational by watching its live stream every night. There have been some great games!
Last night, English commentator Nick “Tasteless” Plott gave us a mention during the live stream of Light vs. GGPlay! Here it is, from the VOD on the GSI’s official website:

I use my function keys for application switching via Quicksilver. Because I’ve assigned most of my major applications to their own virtual desktops using Spaces, switching between them involves both bringing their frontmost window forward and navigating to the virtual desktop (space) that holds that frontmost window.
Every so often I’ll be annoyed to find that

About a month and a half ago I promised not to mess around with the RSS feed anymore, having dedicated to FeedBurner. I’m sticking to that promise in the sense that the FeedBurner feed (and all other existing feeds for jwdunn.com) will remain intact indefinitely, and you are certainly welcome to subscribe to them.

The number one security-related threat to Mac users at Stanford is Symantec’s Norton AntiVirus 10.0. With backing from Residential Computing (Rescomp), Norton AV has caused more pain and suffering at Stanford than any OS X-based virus could aspire to.
How It Spread
Before I get into the dastardly nature of Norton AV and how to kill

Every few months I’ll open up Activity Monitor to see what is eating my RAM and notice Safari chilling at about 500 MB real memory usage. This is an outrageous RAM footprint for a web browser—most operating systems’ core functions can run speedily on half a gig of real memory.
Disgusted, I vow never to use
