2AM releases 1st full length album Saint O'clock

2AM members feeling emotionally drained after singing all those ballads

JYP Entertainment's 2AM makes a comeback with their first full-length album entitled Saint o'clock. The quartet, which is one of the two subgroups branched out from the original 11-member boyband One Day (the other subgroup being 2PM), will be concentrating on bringing across their soulful voices rather than their sharp dance routine in this new album.

Saint o'clock is a sentimental album. Bang Si-hyuk, the producer who helped 2AM top the charts with the song 'Never Let You Go' returns in this album. Having two very strong songs in the album, Bang is unable to decide on the title track. Hence, Saint o'clock has not one, but two title tracks - namely 'Like Crazy' and 'You Wouldn't Answer My Calls'. The former is described as a soulful ballad which that would captivate the audience. While the latter, is a heart-wrenching song that describes the pain and loneliness after a breakup. Very soulful songs indeed!

As you would now know, Korean music artiste don't only emphasize their music. Along with the release of a new album, comes a whole new look for the group. In this album, 2AM has opted for a very classy look, donning trendy suits.

2AM's first full-length album comes in two flavours. First, the limited-edition album (only 20,000 copies available) comes with former hit songs 'This song', 'Confession of a Friend' plus the original version of Jo Kwon's 'The Day I Confessed'. It also includes additional goodies such as a mini photo album, special 2AM diary and newsletters. The regular edition contains 'To Love You Again' written by Lee Chang-min, which is not included in the limited edition.

2AM's Saint o'clock will be released both online and in stores on October 26, 2010 by Loen Entertainment Inc.

CNBLUE relates embarrassing red carpet experience

"It was our first ever red carpet appearance, and the camera did not capture us," whined CNBLUE's Lee Jonghyun and Kang Minhyuk.

The pair debuted as actors in the omnibus movie Acoustic and were at the 15th Pusan International Film Festival on Oct 7.

The pair made their red carpet appearance right after Chinese actress Tang Wei (Lust, Caution) and the cameras missed them. What a pity, especially when the event was broadcasted live!

Minhyuk divulged, "This is the first time I've seen Jonghyun Hyung so nervous."

Embarrassed, Jonghyun explained, "It's true. I'm not the type who usually gets nervous while on stage, but this time I was a wreck."

Jonghyun practiced his red carpet walk and how he would wave to fans in the hotel room before the event, so it was really disappointing when the cameras failed to catch him in action. Nevertheless, the boys are excited for their movie debut.

Jonghyun and Minhyuk said, "Watching the film reminded us of the times we spent in Japan when we started our music career. At that time, we practiced in the basement.

"We think a lot about those difficult times, but we also realize that there are a lot of people who have had similar experiences. I think we are so lucky now to be able to play music in such a good environment."

Zuno and Jay Park are coming to Malaysia!

For those still not in the know, Zuno's fanmeet and showcase tour in Malaysia has been postponed to Nov 5 (originally scheduled on Oct 13-15).

Currently organized by Absolutely Pop Resources (previously Chavez Events), the C-pop event will be held in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Johor, which was listed as one of his stops in the original schedule, has been dropped.

There's also good news for Jay Park fans! The erstwhile leader of top boyband 2PM is coming to Malaysia after all. Absolutely Pop Resources has confirmed at its Facebook page that the fanmeet will be on Dec 4 while a Hi-5 session with Jay will be on Dec 5.

Redstar Presents wanted to bring Jay into Malaysia this year but plans fell through.

Lee Na-young, the lead actress of KBS drama Fugitive Plan B, revealed some comical on set photos of herself.

The 31-year-old, who portrays Jini, is seen with her co-star Rain, who puts on a vacant look for the shot. Meanwhile, she is also seen posing with a man who might be her…er, stunt double? They have the same clothes on.

Fugitive Plan B is a fast-paced action drama about a private investigator named Jiwoo (Rain / Jung Ji-hoon) who is hired by Jini to track down a murderer named Melchidec. She is afraid that Melchidec, who murdered her parents, will come after her. As the pair work together on the case, they can’t help but fall for each other.

WHO'S SEXIER?: Take your pick, ladies and gentlemen.

Hunkilicious Daniel Henney co-stars as Kai. There will also be appearances by The Slave Hunters cast such as Oh Ji-ho, Lee Da-hae, Sung Dong-il and Kong Hyung-jin.

The Slave Hunters (2010) director-writer team of Kwak Jung-hwan and Chun Seung-il are behind the drama.

Fugitive Plan B started airing in South Korea on Sept 29 and will be airing in Malaysia after popular drama Bread, Love and Dreams ends its run.

HAM gets into a jam with So Sexy MV

HAM’s (Heart and Mind) Western-inspired music video for So Sexy sparked a controversy with its “Jacket Dance” and sexually suggestive lyrics.

The MV was broadcast on GOM.TV, a popular streaming service in South Korea, on Oct 1. But KBS has rejected the MV.

In the video, the sexy HAM girls ham things up (pun intended) by cheekily playing chest peekaboo with their jackets, and netizens have dubbed the move the Jacket Dance.

On top of that, they spout lyrics such as “Come inside me” and “I’ll get you”.

The girls’ agency Lee Yeon Entertainment is quick to respond and said that the lyrics and choreography will be re-edited before they re-submit the song for another review.

Other Kpop artists who have been caught in a jam such as this are Rain and TVXQ.

Apparently, the powers-that-be didn’t like Rain's “Magic Stick” in Rainism while TVXQ’s Mirotic was analyzed to the point that certain words were concluded to have referred to sperm and a woman’s hymen.

Oh-KAY. Enough blabber. For a So Sexy time, hit play.

Jaejoong, Yoochun and Junsu – who are a part of the indefinitely-on-hiatus Korean band TVXQ – will be in Malaysia on Oct 17!

The trio will be here for their New Album Showcase Tour 2010.

8TV Nite Live, which has been on air for a year and a half, is an interactive talk show that focuses on the hottest things/events under the Malaysian sun.

The Kpop phenomenon has been detected by 8TV Nite Live’s radar so the program currently offers up-to-date Kpop entertainment news and music videos!

Moe Nasrul, one of the hosts of 8TV Nite Live said: “Fans get to vote for which K-pop music video they would like to watch on the program during our K-pop live music polls every Saturday.

“It can get competitive and it is really fun to watch the numbers rise and fall as the show progresses. On top of that, fans get to chat with the hosts and other K-pop fans live as well.”

Moe, who is a fan Wonder Girls, SNSD, Rain and Brian Joo (just to name a few), said that his most memorable stint for the program so far was his interview with Korean-American singer Brian Joo on July 11.

“We connected with him before the show, and were just hanging out in the studio,” Moe told K-popped! in an exclusive interview.

“We laughed and joked like we weren’t TV hosts and celebrity, but a few high school friends who met up for a reunion.”

Apparently, Moe had a lot in common with Brian. Off-screen, the pair traded stories about being the only Asian kid in class while growing up in the States.

Their on-screen chemistry was also potent; so much so that the usual format and stories for 8TV Nite Live were scrapped to make way for more “Brian & Moe” witty banter. (Watch a clip of the show below!)

Kpop would not be given so much prominence in Malaysia without its fans. So we asked Moe what he thought about them.

“They are some the most dedicated, wonderful, and fun loving people I have ever encountered,” Moe replied.

“The fans are not afraid to show love for their favorite group or singer and that says a lot...considering that the general perception is that Malaysians are shy. We're not shy when we're passionate about something!”

ONE HD: New Korean-focused network on Astro B.yond

The Malaysian Kpop Twitterverse (join us here) is abuzz with news that Astro subscribers will be getting another Korean channel called ONE HD (Channel 393). However, Astro will only offer the network to its B.yond subscribers.

B.yond is our nation’s first High-Definition (HD) broadcast that offers sharper pictures, more vibrant colors and cinematic surround sound. Yep, I bet you’d love to see SNSD’s long legs and 2PM’s naked torsos in hi-def, no? Va va va voom.

Channel 393 reportedly provides “the best selection in Asian general entertainment with a focus on Korean content.”

So this doesn’t mean it’s exclusively dedicated to Korean shows, does it? It’s basically a selection of Asian entertainment shows, isn’t it?

I'M LEGEND: Hot chicks in super short dresses in HD?!?!?!Wowzer!

But since it is focused on Korean content, the carrots that are dangled in front of non-B.yond subscribers (so that they’ll upgrade their subscription) are Korean hit dramas such as My Girlfriend is Gumiho and I’m Legend; entertainment programs such as Star King and Star Junior Show and of course, beloved Kpop music shows such as K-pop Countdown and Kim Jung-eun’s Chocolate Concert.

ONE HD is set to go on air Oct 3.

How many Kpop fans reading this are planning to switch to B.yond because of ONE HD? Remember, you’d only get a bang for your buck with an HDTV ;)

Jay Park's not coming to Malaysia, goes to Singapore

Malaysian Jaywalkers will not be able to see their idol, Jay Park (a.k.a. Park Jae-beom) in the flesh but their Singaporean counterparts will be able to do so on Sept 25!

Redstar Presents, the local concert promoter that successfully brought in Super Show 2, announced at its blog yesterday (Sept 22) that the Jay Park Fan Meet Tour has fallen through.

“After several negotiations, we were unable to meet the demands of Mr. Jay Park’s Management team,” Redstar Presents wrote.

Down south, Jaywalkers in Singapore will have the opportunity to see the erstwhile 2PM leader in action at the Wave House, Sentosa.

Together with his Bboy crew Art of Movement (AOM), Jay will put on a 90-minute performance where the singer will also cover B.O.B’s hit Nothing On You and his latest single Demon.

While Koreans celebrate Chuseok today (Sept 22), we Chinese Malaysians celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Chuseok is a major holiday in South Korea and is celebrated with a three-day national holiday. It also known as Korean Thanksgiving Day and Koreans thank their ancestors in memorial services called Charye for the year’s harvest, and share their abundance with family and friends. Songpyeon (Korean rice cakes) are served at these ceremonies.

My Korean expat boss shared some songpyeon with the employees today. I like the orange-coloured ones the best :).

As for Chinese Malaysians, we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. It isn’t one of the major holidays in Malaysia; we do not get a day off :-P.

For the Mid-Autumn Festival, families supposedly gather to feast on mooncakes while taking in the beauty of the full moon. Children will also be carrying candle-lit -- but now mostly battery-operated -- lanterns around.

Liz and myself were delighted to find a shop at Tropicana City Mall selling Korean-made hair clips. We found a sign outside the shop that says "Boyoung hair clip specially imported from Korea"! Interested to find out more, we went into the store to find a wide selection of jaw clips from Korea. On a plus side, the clips have a 3-month warranty so you don't have to worry that the metal spring holding it together will give way after a couple of days.

Prices for the clips are pretty reasonable at around RM20 - RM40.

Geneses Dream Entertainment cancels two ZE:A events

ZE:A, a nine member South Korean group, was in Malaysia for a private fan meeting on Sept 12. The Mazel tov singers were also scheduled to hold a Dinner Date and High Five Session with fans on Sept 13.

While the ZE:A boys met with their fans on Sept 12, their Sept 13 events were canceled at the last minute.

Geneses Dream Entertainment (GDE), the event management company that brought the boys in, posted a simple message at their Facebook page on the day of the events itself.

It reads:

Dear All, We are sorry to inform you that Dinner Date and High Five Session today has been cancelled. Refund process will be prepared and announced two days later. Sorry for any inconvenient caused.

GDE brought boyband U-KISS to Malaysia for a private fan meeting in June 2010.

On Sept 2, local print media such as The Star, New Straits Times, Sin Chew Jit Poh and Berita Harian, received a press release from GDE announcing its closure and a 50% refund to fans for all its upcoming events.

GDE slammed the “rumour” when K-popped! and sinchew-i.com (the online arm of Sin Chew Jit Poh) reported on it.

Fans who have paid for the ZE:A events will now have to wait for the announcement on the refunding process.

MC Mong extracted teeth to dodge military service?

Singer / rapper MC Mong is alleged to have extracted healthy teeth so he could escape serving in the South Korean army!

It is reported that the 31-year-old removed 12 teeth in 2008 to get an exemption. Police plan to arrest the singer without detention.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said the rapper, whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun, postponed his military duty seven times from 1999 to 2006.

“He put off joining the army with reasons such as applying for the civil service examination, job training and overseas travel. However, he filmed a movie and released albums during the period when he delayed the service,” a police officer said.

MC Mong denied the allegations when he was summoned for investigation in July. He claimed that the teeth were removed because of cavities. However, the police officer can confirm that at least four teeth were removed to weaken his “dental function” and eventually get an exemption from military service.

The talent is currently appearing in 1 Night 2 Days (KBS) and Haha Mong Show (SBS). KBS will be editing out the scenes in which MC Mong appears in, thus shortening the upcoming show by 15 minutes. It is still uncertain whether the Indian Boy singer will remain as a cast member of the show.

In response to the controversy, MC Mong wrote at his minihompy:

I was exempted from military service obviously because of my teeth. I am too sad and hurt to see viewers' comments describing me as a military dodger.

I apologise for creating a controversy. I don't want to be remembered as a son or entertainer who committed wrongdoings on military service. I will bring to light the whole truth about the case.

JYJ fan meeting in Malaysia, anyone?

A JYJ fan meeting is currently in the planning stages and its all up to you, fans, to make it happen.

Redstar Presents, the concert promoter that organized the Super Junior's Super Show 2 in March this year, originally set the JYJ fan meet date on Oct 16. However, they may postpone the event to Nov to fullfil the fans' requests.

JYJ consists of Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong. The trio was part of the hugely popular K-pop group TVXQ. The JYJ unit was formed under Japanese label Rhythm Zone after TVXQ got entangled in legal battles with SM Entertainment.

Both JYJ's The... single and Thanksgiving Live in Dome tour DVD are doing very well on Japan's Oricon daily charts, moving nicely into the top spots.

Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong have all been to Malaysia twice. They previously came when TVXQ held its concerts here.

Jo Han-seon enlists for military duty

Yesterday, he was promoting his latest flick The Invincible with Song Seung-hun, Joo Jin-mo and Kim Kang-woo.

Today (Sept 9), Jo Han-seon enlisted for military duty at the Nonsan training camp at about 1pm (Korea time).

The 29-year-old didn’t enlist earlier due to his busy schedule, and earnestly wanted to promote The Invincible with his co-stars first before joining the army. To talent hid his shorned head under a beanie yesterday.

Han-seon, who tied the knot in January this year, also has a 5-month-old daughter. The talent said that he didn’t enlist while he was younger as he was working to establish his career.

All the best Han-seon, these days, two years go by in the blink of an eye.

Korean heartthrobs Song Seung-hun, Joo Jin-mo, Kim Kang-woo and Jo Han-seon met the South Korean press at 2pm on Sept 8.

PSSST: 'Yo dude, your fly's open.'

The Hallyuwood actors were out to promote their latest flick The Invincible, a Korean remake of John Woo’s 1986 A Better Tomorrow.

Directed by Song Hae-sung (Failan, Our Happy Time), the story revolves around a North Korean special agent who is freed and settles down in South Korea, only to get entangled in the underworld.

The film boasts a 10 billion won (USD 8.5mil) budget and is a collaborative project between South Korea, China, Japan and Thailand. The Invincible will be released in South Korea on Sept 16.

Sounds like an interesting movie. Which reminds me, I haven't seen a Korean flick in a long time :(.

There’s a teaser floating around in cyberspace featuring JYP Entertainment’s (JYPE) next big thing.

SAN E: JYPE's new talent acts like a doofus in his teaser video

The talent agency that has given us popular kpop acts such as Rain, Wonder Girls, 2PM and Miss A is about to unleash San E (a.k.a Rap Genius or Teacher San).

San E, who is known for an “original rapping and music style”, is all set to make his official debut on Sept 13.

FIGHTING! They need a lot of support to make it...

Jeon Hyosung, Song Ji Eun, Zinger and Han Sunhwa of Secret were at Kyobo bookstore, Jamsil Songpa-gu Seoul today promoting their 2nd mini album entitled "Madonna".

Fighting! It's difficult to make it in the highly competitive entertainment industry and Secret is currently being plagued with accusations that their track "Madonna" is plagiarized from another song.

Rain wants to become a fighter pilot

until 2010 that is!

South Korea's top star Rain (real name Jung Ji-hoon) was originally called to enlist for military service on 28 September 2010. However, the celebrity has requested to postpone his enlistment to next year (2011).

Rain has also stated his preference in serving in the Air Force during his 2-year service. According to a report on Newsen, Rain has a high chance serving in the Air Force, much like fellow celeb Jo In-sung. So Rain wants to become a fighter pilot!

Rain's reason for postponement is that he is busy shooting his latest drama Fugitive and is also in the midst of pursuing his graduate degree at Dankook University. It is reported that his postponement has been accepted by the MMA (Military Manpower Administration).

Rain wants to join the Air Forces? Liz is already imagining Bi in TOP GUN style sun-glasses, a white tee and jeans. Hahahaha...
