If you are a parent and if you dread your kid’s homework, then you are not the only one. Homework isn’t just a subject of dislike for kids but parents too. Working parents, especially mothers find it difficult to deal with homework hassles after an exhausting day at work. For kids homework has just become an additional burden and they find it hard to complete their school assignment without their parent’s or tutor’s support. In order to get your child do the homework, you need to think of ways to simply this daily’s herculean task. So instead of giving lecture, focus on ways how you can improve homework skills of your kid. Convey to your child and make him understand completing homework is not such a difficult task. Boost his motivation levels with lots of encouragement.

Set Daily Homework Time

As your child moves on to the higher classes, his homework pressure increases. That’s why, it’s important to inculcate homework discipline in children from the very beginning. Good time management at home especially after school hours is very crucial. Parents must plan child’s schedule in a way where homework tops the priority list. Set homework time-table according to the subjects in school. Select topics that are difficult and require more hours, accordingly provide more time to that subject. Explain to your child that difficult tasks will take longer, so they must begin them well before the deadline. Also, it will give them time to work through any problems and will allow them time to return to the teacher and ask concern questions, if there is something they don’t understand. Set targets for revisions and exams. This way it will clarify and simplify your child’s homework routine.

          ]]>

Break time

Don’t overexert your kid with homework. Give him a breather. Prepare homework schedule in a way which allows him to take 10 minute break after every hour. This will refresh his brain and make him more alert when he returns back to his homework. Let him go on a walk or serve good snacks. Allow him to talk a friend or play for a while etc.

Provide incentives for following homework routine

Let your child know that if he will follow homework routine religiously, he will have access to privileges. Reward or praise him whenever he completes his homework. For example – you can say- “Once you are done with your homework, you can play videogame with your friend” etc. Disallow him to leave his homework pending for later. Even if he doesn’t follow, don’t take away rewards for more than a day, as your child will have no inducement to do better next time.

Most school children graduating to middle school (class V-class VII) and high school (Class VIII-Class X) began to fervently search for avenues to take a safety precaution to supplement their study in maths and science before they develop Achilles heel. Any small slip in giving enough of oneself for studying math and science will prove costly and contribute to derail the long term career envisaged by them at the budding stages. A simple and most common enabling tool they choose is once again tuitions or tutorial classes. That proves a repeat grind of the school classroom with all its constraints of attaching another routine, and getting lost in the crowd.

Taking up study of CBSE from home is not a bad option. But, that throws up innumerable options as to how should that be? Best option could be get subject matter experts to teach you at your home. Which, however, is difficult option as you have to search and arrange for an expert for each of the subjects maths, science, English, social studies, organize a routine again, and get into another grind at home. Though, comfortably at home the personal tuition at one’s own home with an expert allows enough interactivity but whether that gets enough for you to leverage to get more out of your learning time to stay ahead cannot be said with certainty.

Another few options of studying from home that you could explore is having practice sessions with supplementary books, group study with peers and friends, get e learning tools like CD/DVDs to supplement the studies for CBSE maths and science, or take peer help at home or from extended family and friends. Though these options give you the convenience of carrying your studies within the comforts of your home, still you cannot leverage enough to get out most of you self learning hours. Each of these methods gives you enough freedom to take up self learning. But without adequate professional guidance can still leave without much of what you desired from self-learning.

The new approaches CBSE maths, and CBSE science require to study from Class VI to Class X can be brought about by adequate interactivity with professional CBSE subject experts’ guidance along with unlimited self-study practice sessions of student to bring about the results of effective self learning by not turning them into an Achilles’ heel. For maths practice is important and for science reasoning and understanding are vital.

Online education combined with social networking sites has the premise for developing the right approaches to maths and science. Social networking among its innumerable free services provides for interactive chat. Only if the resources of e learning tools for studying school subjects of maths and science are available during networking, the chat sessions can slip into learning modes and create edusocial corners, deriving from the best of both. Imagine a subject matter expert to support your learning and understanding you can achieve most of self learning.

Each October, schools recognize the oldest and largest campaign designed to prevent young people from using drugs. While the exact dates of the celebration vary each year, many people understand the importance of these days in a larger campaign to prevent substance abuse. The week serves as a way for communities and people everywhere to take a stand against substance abuse and the destruction it brings to children, lives, homes, and communities. Each person who participates in the celebration makes a personal commitment to stay free of substance abuse and work toward a drug-free United States. The week also celebrates the life of DEA Special Agent Enrique Camarena who was killed by a Mexican drug cartel as he fought to keep drugs out of our country and protect our children.

The life and untimely death of Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena serves as the inspiration for the red ribbon campaign. Agent Camarena was raised in a very poor home, but he dreamed of making a difference. As he grew, he attended college, proudly served in the US Marine Corps, and served as a Police Officer. He decided to join the US Drug Enforcement Administration, a move which his family tried to talk him out of. He told his mother, “I can’t not do this, I’m only one person, but I want to make a difference.” He was sent to work in an undercover assignment in Mexico, investigating a dangerous and well-connected drug cartel. On February 7, 1985, as Agent Camarena left his office to join his wife for lunch, five men forced him into a car. His body was found a month later.

After the tragedy, friends and Congressman Duncan Hunter launched Camarena Clubs in California, where Camarena was raised. Club members promised to lead drug-free lives as a way to honor Camarena and others who had died in the drug wars. Club members also began wearing red satin ribbons as a way to memorialize him.

The Red Ribbon Week remains as one of Agent Camarena’s most important legacies, helping to preserve his memory and continue his work against illegal narcotics. By wearing a red ribbon during the last week of October, people everywhere can show their support for an America free of the scourge of narcotics. In many areas, the traditional red awareness ribbon is still worn at schools, businesses, and community events.

For others, wearing red ribbon pins is a way to celebrate red ribbon week throughout the year. Awareness pins have been a popular way to show support for different causes for many years. Many people enjoy wearing a pin because it is a very simple way to show support for an important cause. On the other hand, some organizations choose to sell custom lapel pins as a way to raise money for their campaigns, and some schools distribute red ribbon pins to faculty and students as a lasting way to show their commitment to a drug free world. Awareness ribbon pins are instantly recognizable as standing for something important, and there are few things more important than protecting the future of our children by eliminating substance abuse.

A well-designed nursery environment is very essential for the overall development of a child studying there and is also considered responsible for brightening up a child’s day at the nursery. Simply put, is does the job of converting work and learning into play and creating a fun environment for children to come back to everyday by transporting them into whole other playful, vibrant and colourful world.

Good nursery design permits children to have a spacious play area so that children can run around freely and can feel no restriction of space. Good design is also practical and sensitive which allows children to touch and feel different textures allowing them to learn through touch while having a spacious and practical space to play and learn.

The Kensington Nursery in Dubai with their Reggio Emilia approach to learning helps children learn through play. With the principles of Reggio Emilia, they strive to develop a child’s educational, social, and emotional awareness within an environment where they are encouraged to think, question, discuss, and evaluate. One of the principles that govern the Reggio Emilia philosophy is the one that states that ‘Children must be able to learn through experiences of touching, moving, listening, seeing, and hearing’. It is here that both the approach and a good environment come together helping the children at The Kensington Nursery have fun and learn at the same time. They unlike other nurseries in Dubai have designed their environment with content that is actually a part of the curriculum which turns the class environment itself into a learning tool. What makes it more special is that the entire environment can be converted or changed using different equipment on different days of the week which offers a fascinating and a fresh visual experience for the children everyday. The Kensington Nursery also offers the children their own garden where they grow and tend to their own plants; this sits alongside their sensory garden an area which is infused with colour and textures for the children to explore. The petting zone, actually allows children to interact with pets and real animals which is completely different from looking and learning from pictures in a book.

The Kensington understands that the early year’s foundation is a very critical part of a child’s life in terms of learning and understanding the environment around them. This is why they follow the Reggio Emilia approach coupled with a stimulating yet practical work and play environment to make for the best learning environment possible.

Many people consider getting a college education to be something that is done by those that are young. There are many older adults, however, who are also taking advantage of furthering their education for a number of different reasons. Some of them do this in order to better themselves or perhaps to simply enhance their abilities outside of the work place. Other people, however, want to attend college during their later years to give themselves the opportunity to find a career that is really going to be rewarding, both financially and personally.

If you’re considering attending college and you have been out of high school for quite a number of years, there are some things that you’re going to need to consider which will help to make the entire process much easier. Perhaps one of the first things that you need to do, however, is to look at your personal circumstances and see what you have available to you. For example, many navy moms are able to take advantage of the GI Bill from the time that their husband was in the military. Additionally, there may be other benefits that are available to those who served in the military or to their families. Take a look at the circumstances in advance because in many cases, it can make a difference in your ability to attend college from a financial standpoint.

You also need to consider some of the specific things that are going to need to be gathered so that you can attend college in the first place. One of the things that you’re going to need is transcripts from your high school that show that you not only graduated but also what type of grades you had while you were in school. Many of the credits are also going to make a big difference in your ability to attend college. While you’re getting the transcripts from your high school, it would also be a good idea for you to get any type of test scores from your SAT or any other test that may have been taken while you were in school. This can not only show them your potential, there are many times when it is going to make a difference in your ability to get financial aid to enter college as well.

Have you been in the workforce? If you have, you should offer a copy of your resume to the College Board. It will give them the opportunity to see where you are now, and where you have been for the years between the time that you were in high school and now, when you want to enroll in college. Finally, be sure that you prepare well for the interview that is going to need to be taken before you enter college. It is important to note, not all colleges are going to ask for an interview but when it is a requirement, it really gives you the opportunity to show your stuff and to let them know that you are serious about furthering your education.

“Today Dron again entered the class late. I was in the middle of my class when he entered into the room; his head was bent and with a fearful voice he the permission to enter the class room. I have given so many warnings to him, but it seems that these are of no use. Even the school authorities also have asked me about his performance. He was a gentle child, generous about his studies. He used to enjoy lot during my classes. But I don’t know what happened to him suddenly that he started coming late.

This has impacted his academics as well” Class tardiness can often being seen among children who are in their middle school level. Entering the class late may impact not only the academics of the student who enter late, but can disrupt the flow of a lecture or discussion, distract other students, impede learning, and generally erode the class morale. Students who have developed a chronic pattern of tardiness should be refrained from that in an early age, because it may turn into a habit in the long run. This may impact the professional life also. To help children overcome this situation, the teachers need to come forward and develop means to stop this.

Students may develop a tendency to be impunctual due to a lack of discipline in leading their lives. First the parents can help the children to be punctual. Being punctual is very important in every walk of our lives. Parents and teachers can coordinate to solve this problem. There are various means that we can use to make children aware of the importance of time and be punctual. Sometime it is observed that children are aware of their behaviors but might not realize that this can have a negative impact on others. So they should be made aware of their behavioral problems first by means of a verbal notification. Teachers, after observing the students for some days, may verbally warn the student about tardiness. But this should not hurt the self-respect of the child. The meeting must take place privately, when the authoritative party warns the tardy person verbally using a statement such as, “I have noticed you are arriving class late and from next time I want you to be in time, as you used to do earlier”. Such statements will work in a positive way.

Even if the student continues to do the same, a written notice can be issued to the student so that this matter can be taken to the parents also. In this matter, teachers can consult the parents and can do take necessary steps for the child’s well being. It is observed that this works more effectively and most children start coming to the classes in due time after getting a written notification. The final step towards reducing tardiness among students is to deduct their marks in the final exam for their unwanted behaviors during the academic year. Schools take such severe steps only in extreme conditions.

There’s a major problem with trust between the characters in William Shakespeare’s most famous play – Hamlet. How can you blame them? They’re not the most upright, honorable bunch. In fact, they make Dexter look like a sweetheart.

A couple of these Hamlet quotes pretty much say it all in a nutshell:

GHOST: “Ay, that incestuous, that adulterate beast..” (1.5.9)

HAMLET: “O villain, villain, smiling, damned villain!” (1.5.10)

POLONIUS: “At such a time I’ll loose my daughter to him;
Be you and I behind an arras then.” (2.2.12)

LAERTES: “I am justly kill’d with mine own treachery.” (5.2.12)

Sounds like these guys have got some issues to work out. Let’s break it down and take a look at who’s doing what to whom:

Claudius kills the king, Hamlet’s father, takes over the throne and snags his own brother’s wife while he’s at it
Gertrude, Hamlet’s mother, betrays her ex-husband the king by jumping into the sack with Claudius immediately after his death
Laertes interferes in his sister Ophelia’s love life and demands that she stop trying to become involved romantically with Hamlet
Hamlet pretends to be crazy. Sure, he’s just doing so to catch his uncle in a trap, but still – deceitful.
Hamlet plots to kill Claudius.
Polonius hides behind a curtain to spy on Hamlet. What – were there no closets in this castle?
Hamlet (thinking he is Claudius) stabs and kills Polonius (wouldn’t have been so easy if he were in a closet – we’re just saying),
Claudius conspires to have Hamlet’s friends usher him to England where he’ll be out of the way for at least a little while.
Claudius and Laertes plot to kill Hamlet.
Hamlet, upon discovering an incriminating letter ordering his own death, decides to serve Rosencrantz and Guildenstern a dose of their own medicine and has them killed. (That’s some costly medicine.)
Claudius unintentionally poisons Gertrude.
Laertes kills Hamlet.
Hamlet kills Laertes and Claudius.
Horatio is caught cheating on the PSAT.

Now that’s some treachery and deceit. If this isn’t a FOX reality show in the making, we don’t know what is.

          ]]>

There are plenty of aspects of Shakespeare’s masterpiece that make Hamlet his most performed and most acclaimed effort, but you just have to give a shout-out to the element of duplicity that runs rampant throughout the text. It’s no wonder that practically everyone ends up lying in a pool of blood and/or poisoned wine by the end of it.

Hopefully the above list will inspire you to go home, tell your mother you love her, hide the cutlery, and stop acting so crazy.

America has a long history of racism. Unless you’ve spent your entire life with your head under a watermelon, you should be well aware of the negative stereotypes that African Americans have long had to endure, and the discrimination with which they continue to be faced. Believe it or not, there once was a time when they weren’t even allowed to take the SAT!

Because of this country’s long history of slavery, the struggles of African Americans have often been reflected in our nation’s literature. Many works centering on race or racism have won Pulitzers and National Book Awards and are frequently listed as some of the greatest American novels – books such as Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man and Richard Wright’s Native Son and Black Boy among them. However, none has stuck with us quite so strongly nor had quite such a profound effect on the makeup of the American literary canon as Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

          ]]>

So the question is, why? What makes this book so special? You don’t need to read an entire To Kill a Mockingbird Summary to figure it out – all you need to notice is something about a few of the main characters.

Whereas most novels dealing with the issue of racism tend to focus on adults of at least 17 or 18 years old, To Kill a Mockingbird explores the subject from the point of view of children who are quite a bit younger. The reason this is consequential is that the seeds of racism are planted when we are young. It is much more moving and powerful to see the ways in which children transform (or don’t transform, depending on the quality of their outside influences) as they progress through their formative years. In To Kill a Mockingbird, we have the opportunity to observe just such a thing.

We’ll leave you with a few To Kill a Mockingbird Quotes that draw attention to the differences between the ways that children and adults view and deal with racism:

“Atticus-” said Jem bleakly. He turned in the doorway. “What, son?” “How could they do it, how could they?” “I don’t know, but they did it. They’ve done it before and they did it tonight and they’ll do it again and when they do it – seems that only children weep. Good night.” (22.14-17)

“Don’t talk like that, Dill,” said Aunt Alexandra. “It’s not becoming to a child. It’s – cynical.”"I ain’t cynical, Miss Alexandra. Tellin’ the truth’s not cynical, is it?” “The way you tell it, it is.” (22.32-34)

The adults in Maycomb never discussed the case with Jem and me; it seemed that they discussed it with their children, and their attitude must have been that neither of us could help having Atticus for a parent, so their children must be nice to us in spite of him. The children would never have thought that up for themselves: had our classmates been left to their own devices, Jem and I would have had several swift, satisfying fist-fights apiece and ended the matter for good. As it was, we were compelled to hold our heads high and be, respectively, a gentleman and a lady. (26.10)

To this day, Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night remains one of his most widely read, performed and adored comedies. Wonder if it has something to do with the cross-dressing.

Seriously. There is a lot of cross-dressing in this one. Yes, true, it’s only one character who does the dressing up, but it’s a pretty central point of focus, and when you also consider that the women were all played by men in the first place in Shakespeare’s time, you have a truly confusing (albeit entertaining) scenario. The issue stands out even more because plays about cross-dressing were simply not done back then. (Again – interesting, since half the actors on stage in any play during that time were cross-dressing.)

It was feared by certain members of the community that the very act of dressing in the clothing of the opposite gender would turn women into hermaphrodites. (There’s a vocab word that may pop up on your PSAT.) Yeah, we’re sure there were a lot of actual case studies of that happening for them to draw from. Nevertheless, the subject matter and treatment of it were frowned upon and heavily criticized, which probably thrilled Shakespeare, as he was such a controversy enthusiast.

          ]]>

Of course, today we all know the real truth, and that is that cross-dressing is just plain funny. No offense to the thousands of people who dress that way for reals – we’re just referring to the comedic use of transvestism as applied in popular culture. Monty Python and Benny Hill figured it out, and in more recent years there have been such films as The Hot Chick, White Chicks and She’s the Man (instant classics all of them) that have employed cross-dressing for humorous purposes. (She’s the Man, by the way, was actually a modern retelling of – you guessed it – Twelfth Night.) You practically need to be an AP Calculus stud just to keep track of how many cross-dressing references there are in contemporary television and film. (Okay, so counting doesn’t really entail having to know any calculus – you’ll please forgive us for our hyperbole.)

But it must have been even funnier in Shakespeare’s time, because there was that added ‘should we be laughing at this?’ vibe going on. Ah yes – he was the South Park of his generation. The playwright was no stranger to venturing into taboo or unexplored territory (that’s one of the reasons he’s the best!). Many of his female characters (such as Lady Macbeth and Kate in The Taming of the Shrew) were intelligent and strong-minded – something else that wasn’t really being done. Romeo and Juliet was the first love story to be referred to as a tragedy, and his portrayal of certain historical figures came under fire as well.

So what have we learned? Well, that controversy is funny, obviously! Ever heard Robert Downey Jr.’s well-known speech in Tropic Thunder, or seen Borat or Knocked Up? If so, you’ll know what we mean.
