[Community Service] Cross-Cultural Awareness Program

Are you interested in meeting kids?

Do you like introducing your country to others?

Do you like to make friends with people of diverse backgrounds from all over the world?

Are you looking for a way to contribute to the community?

If your answer to any of these questions is 'yes', the CCAP is for you.

*** Introduction

CCAP is organized by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO. CCAP is supported by the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development. CCAP is designed to be a participatory process that augments education for international understanding in schools nationwide and promotes a culture of tolerance and mutual respect.

*** Objectives

To enhance the intercultural understanding of Korean youth

To provide opportunities for all participants to share their cultural backgrounds

To promote the learning to live together in a globalized world

To create a constructive partnership between Koreans and global citizens by fostering interaction

*** Activities

Foreign students (CEV; Cultural Exchange Volunteer) and Korean students (KIV; Korean Interpretation Volunteer) make a group then are asked to visit schools in Daejeon. What volunteers should do is just introduce your own country to Korean students in your own way.

*** Qualification

Individuals of any nationality, race, gender, and cultural background are welcome to join CCAP as a Cultural Exchange Volunteer (CEV). The only requirements for good CEVs are a sense of responsibility and interest in cultural exchange activities and volunteer work.

*** Benefits

Community Service AU

Certificate from Korean National Commission for UNESCO

KAIST CCAP program follows academic schedule on KAIST.

You are not forced to conduct the class.

You do not need to speak in Korean.

This will be a great chance for you to get community service AU and make Korean friends in KAIST.

2012 Spring - KAIST Freshman English Proficiency Exam (Waiver exam for English required courses)

2012 Spring - KAIST English Proficiency Exam

KAIST English Proficiency Exam (Undergraduate)

The KAIST English Proficiency Exam is composed of Speaking and Reading & Writing. The results of the KAIST English Proficiency Exam will be used for the approval of a course waiver for below required courses.

If you get a course waiver, the grade "s "(which means satisfactory) will be given to your transcript before 2012 Fall semester.

- Speaking (7min, 1:1 interview) => English Communication (HSS020. 1credit)

- Reading & Writing (Reading & Writing essay among given topics) => Critical Thinking in English (HSS021, 2credit)

KAIST English Proficiency exam is only avilable for the freshman of the year, and one can't take this exam more than once.

If you don't want to get a waiver and willing to take above classes, you don't have to take this exam.

If you get a waiver, you can't take these classes.

If you've already taken any of above classes, you can't apply for that part of the exam.

The test schedule is as follows.

▪ Site (building number): School of Humanities and Social Sciences (N4)

▪ Date &Time : One designated day among December 19(Mon) ~ 21(wed), 2011

Reading Test (09:30-10:20)

Writing Test (10:30-11:20)

Speaking Test (13:00-15:00) / (15:30-18:30)

▪ Exam Fee : 20,000 won (Please contact me before transfering if you don't need to take all three exams)

Plz transfer exam fee to the below bank account by December 14 (Wed) and call or send an email referring to the bottom address information to make the enrollment sure.

(Specify your name and student ID when making the transfer. If your student ID is 20101234 and name is “Hong Kil Dong,” type in “1234Hong Kil Dong” as the sender.)

Notice

1. Each student should bring his or her student number, an ID (such as a student ID card or a passport, copy of passport), and writing supplies. He or she should arrive at the test site at least ten minutes prior to the start of the test.

2. Electronic dictionaries and cell phones should not be used during the testing.

Students may leave them in their dormitory room or another place.

3. Designated exam date and time : Plz check from KAIST EFL homepage (http://kefl.kaist.ac.kr) on 12/16(Fri).

The final waiver decision will be also noticed on EFL homepage on 12/23(Fri)

[KAIST Clinic] Notice of Comprehensive Health Checkup for Faculty and Staff

KAIST Clinic has decided to extend chances of comprehensive health checkup for the faculty and staff as still there are a lot of the faculty members and staff members who haven’t had health checkup yet. For those who want to have comprehensive health checkup at KAIST Clinic, please read carefully what is indicated about date, registration deadline, items and remarks before making an appointment. Especially, since endoscopy and ultrasonography examination has already been fully booked, those appointees for this additional period cannot have those examinations this year. So, you will have basic health checkup this year, and the remained items at the beginning of the next year.

1. Date : December 6^th(Tue.), 13^th(Tue.), 20^th(Tue.), 27^th(Tue.), 08:30-11:00

2. Daily Limitation : 30 people

3. Registration Deadline : December 12^th(Mon.), 13:00

4. Health Check Items

○ Basic Items(during December)

n Body measurement (height, weight, body composition and etc.), blood test, urine/stool exam., hearing test, vision test, chest x-ray, intraocular pressure/fundus

○ Additional Items (during Jan. and Feb.)

n PFT, ECG, stress test, bone densitometry, ultrasonography, gastroscopy, mammography(only for ladies), gynecology exam.(only for ladies)

5. Remarks

○ I would be hard to make or change your appointment because of the increasing demand.

○ You will receive health checkup result after endoscopy and ultrasonography examination.

○ For those who get financial change from KAIST, we hope you don’t make a change of appointment, since it causes us administrative confusion and double claims for the cost.

[KAIST Clinic] Notice of Additional Sessions for the Student Health Checkups

KAIST Clinic is notifying you of supplementary schedule of student health checkups for two-strikers and the students who haven’t made an appointment yet.

KAIST Clinic had adopted strict appointment system to save your time and to provide you with caring health checkup service. To organize health checkup schedule for about 10,000 students, KAIST Clinic couldn’t help applying two-strike-out policy, which was designed to provide all of you with fair opportunity for the health checkups. However, there happened to have too many two strikers, who didn’t show up for the appointment two times and also, there still are a lot of students who haven’t made an appointment yet. So, we’ve decided to provide them with more chances within the budget and the manpower limitation. Detailed information of the additional health checkup schedule is as follows:

For whom : all the students who haven’t have had health checkups yet & the two strikers
Date : Dec. 8^th(Wed), 28^th(Wed), 29^th(Thus), 2PM-5PM
Application: First come, first have (60 students in order), no appointment accepted
Preparation before the health checkups

- Please avoid eating for 8 hours before the health checkups for the precise result (except water).

- For ladies, please avoid a monthly period for urine test.

5. Remarks for the additional health checkups

- Dental examination will not be included for the dental appointees.

- No registration will be accepted after 5 PM. Please make sure that you would be here at KAIST Clinic before 5PM.

- The cost of additional examination will be charged.

6. Don’t forget that you have to have health checkup result to be admitted in the dormitory. KAIST Student Health Insurance Association will only cover your health checkup at KAIST Clinic and in this year.

2012 spring semester registration procedure and methods are as follows:

(Improvement - change from previous limitation of registration to random electronic selection - made to the registration procedure for courses with enrollment ceilings.)

1. Registration period : Nov 28, 2011 (Mon) ～ Dec 2 (Fri)

<1st period> Nov 28 (Mon)

▶Open enrollment without ceilings for all the courses(from 12 : 30 to 23: 59 on Nov 28)

※ Nov 29 (Tue) : No registration is possible

▶Students will be randomly selected for the courses that exceed their enrollment ceilings; final student lists for the courses will be announced before 11:00 on Nov 30 (Wed).(on portal)

<2nd period> 12:30 on Nov 30(Wed) ~ 23:59 on Dec 2(Fri) (Students may register for the remaining courses)

2. Use: KAIPA

* Use KAIST E-mail ID and PW, log in KAIPA

(If you do not have KAIST E-mail ID, join KAIST E-mail website(http://mail.kaist.ac.kr) , please call at 5276, 2134 for any problems)
