Funktion in Concert

Wednesday, September 15, 2010
7 p.m.

Funktion delivers their dare-you-not-to-dance blend of funk and soul with a hip-hop beat that isn’t afraid to straddle genres—including blues, rock, and jazz. “Smooth as silk and funky as it gets,” according to The Grand Rapids Press.

Harmony Through the Years

Saturday, September 18, 2010
6:59 p.m.

The Mall City Harmonizers' (formerly the Kalamazoo Barbersho Chorus) 2010 Annual Show with our guest quartet The Party. Selected music is from The Mall City Harmonizers' shows from years gone by with emphasis from the past decade.

Our guest The Pary is the 2005 Pioneer District (Michigan and part of Ontario) Barbershop Quartet Champion. For everyone unfamiliar with barbershop... it may not be what you expect! They are a high energy, entertaining acapella group that performs songs from 100 years ago, as well as the songs of their own generation and everything in between. Their shows are a mix of music, humor and showmanship. You won't be disappointed.

The Gilmore’s Rising Stars Recital Series — Mariangela Vacatello, piano

Sunday, September 19, 2010
4p.m.

Italian pianist Mariangela Vacatello is a graduate of the Milan Conservatory of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. Her official debut came at age 14 with the Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra in Milan. Since then, she has performed solo and with orchestras throughout the world.

The Gilmore Rising Stars Recital Series brings some of the best young international pianists to the intimate setting of the Wellspring Theater at the Epic Center in downtown Kalamazoo. For audiences with a special love of music, particularly keyboard music, the discovery of these wonderful new talents — as well as the fact that their artistry can be enjoyed now, before they become “big stars” — makes this series particularly compelling. This is a unique opportunity to witness legends in the making.
